雅思(写作)模拟试卷202(题后含答案及解析)
雅思(写作)模拟试卷202(题后含答案及解析) 题型有:1.1.Chorleywood is a village near London whose population has increased steadily since the middle of the nineteenth century. The map below shows the development of the village. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the development of the village.正确答案:This map illustrates in four stages the development of Chorleywood, a small London village, from 1868 to 1994. According to the map, the first period was from 1868 to 1883. At this time, Chorleywood only had one small area and two crossing main roads. The next period was from 1883 to 1922. During this time, there emerged another habitation to the south of the original small area, which was almost twice bigger than the former one. In 1909, a railway, parallel with the eastbound main road, came into being. It went through the new habitation and formed an intersection with another main road as well. Next, from 1922 to 1970, along the western part of the newly-built railway, two large areas took shape. Finally, 1970 saw another great change in Chorleywood. A southbound motorway was built linking the railway and the eastbound main road. Since then, another five living areas were founded, scattering along the motorway. Therefore, the map shows that thanks to the construction of the railway and the motorway, the land of Chorleywood expanded significantly from 1868 to 1994.2.The map below is of the town of Garlsdon. A new supermarket S is planned for the town. The map shows two possible sites for the supermarkets. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.正确答案:The map displays two possible locations for the construction of a new supermarket in the town of Garlsdon. As is indicated in the map, the first potential site for the new supermarket is located in the countryside. This site is 12 km to Hindon, an area with a population of 10,000, and lies between the railway and main road linking the city center. Therefore, it is quite convenient for people to do shopping at S by taking trains or driving cars. Moreover, S is in the outskits of Garlsdon, people doing shopping there will have no trouble with parking. Conversely, the second suggested site is just in the center of Garlsdon and this will pose great challenges to parking. However, it has its advantages: as it is surrounded by residential areas and there are mature railway and mainroad system connecting Hindon, Bransdon and Cransdon, it is none the less an ideal choice. Bransdon is 16km from the city center, with a population of 15,000 while Cransdon is 25km from the city center and has 29,666 residents. In addition, lying in between Bransdon and Cransdon is an industrialzone. All these imply that the potential customer group is huge. In conclusion, the two suggested sites both have their own advantages and disadvantages. It is better to take all these factors into consideration when making the final decision.。

以下是一道学术类写作题目及其参考答案:题目:Some people believe that the development of technology has a negative impact on personal relationships. To what extent do you agree or disagree?参考答案:In today's digital age, the development of technology has undoubtedly revolutionized the way we communicate and interact with others. While some argue that technology has a negative impact on personal relationships, I strongly disagree with this viewpoint.Firstly, technology has greatly enhanced our ability to connect with others, regardless of geographical barriers. Social media platforms and instant messaging apps allow us to stay in touch with friends and family members who are far away. This has not only facilitated communication but also strengthened personal relationships. For example, video calls enable us to see and hear our loved ones in real-time, creating a sense of closeness and intimacy that would not have been possible without technology.Secondly, technology has provided us with numerous opportunities to meet newpeople and expand our social networks. Online communities and forums allow individuals with similar interests to connect and share ideas. This not only fosters personal growth but also helps in building new relationships. In fact, many people have found lifelong friends or even romantic partners through online platforms.Lastly, technology has made it easier for us to maintain relationships with a larger number of people. With the advent of social media, we can now keep track of our friends' lives, share updates about our own lives, and engage in meaningful conversations with a wide range of individuals. This has enabled usto stay connected with a larger circle of friends and acquaintances, enhancing our social lives and overall well-being.In conclusion, the development of technology has had a positive impact on personal relationships. It has allowed us to overcome geographical barriers, meet new people, and maintain relationships with a larger number of individuals. Therefore, I strongly disagree with the notion that technology has a negative impact on personal relationships.二、一般类写作参考答案一般类写作是雅思写作中较为常见的一部分,题目涉及的主题广泛,考生们需要具备一定的常识和思辨能力。

Within the city of Bath it occupies modern buildings in a landscaped garden on Sion hill, Lansdown and an adjacent Georgian Crescent, Somerset Crescent, which includes teaching and residential accommodation for post-graduate studies. It also occupies three houses in Sydney Place, which are used for studio and workshop accommodation for part-time courses in the Visual Arts and for the Foundation Course in Art and Design. The Newton Park site is situated four miles west of Bath between the villages of Newton St Loe and Corston. Within the grounds are a Georgian mansion, where the college‘s sentral administration is located, an Elizabethan dairy, stables and the tower of a medieval manor house; all these older buildings have been adapted to present-day use. A new purpose-built Home Economics block was opened in January 1985. During 1986 a new Sports Hall will be completed and new residential blocks are under construction to be completed ready for the start of the academic year in September 1986; a new music Block will be completed in 1987.The Art and Design degree courses which are currently accommodated at Corsham, about nine miles east of Bath, will be moved to the Sion Hill site in Bath by September 1986 thus reinforcing Faculty and Course links. The college courses are designed to take advantage of the special opportunities and circumstances provided by its environment. For more than Games were held, every four years, on hallowed ground near Mount Olympus, where the Greek gods were said to live. The ‗Olympics‘ brought together men from war-torn tribes and states in Greece and its colonies. A sacred truce was declared to allow men to travel to the games in safety. Women could not take part and were forbidden, on pain of death, even to attend the Games. The ancient Olympics were abolished by the Roman Emperor Theodosius in 393 AD, after Greece had lost its independence. But the idea never died and the Frenchman Baron Pierre de Coubertin, an educator and scholar, founded the modern Olympics, his aim was to bring together, once every four years, athletes from all countries on the friendly fields of amateur sport. No account was to be taken of national rivalries, nor politics, race, religion, wealth or social status. The first modern Games were held in Athens in 1896, and four years later, in Paris, women began to take part. Although the winter Olympics did not begin until 1924, figure skating was part of the 1908 London summer Olympics; both skating and ice hockey were included in the Antwerp Games in 1920. But generally winter sports were felt to be too specialized. Only cold weather countries had much experience of activities such as skiing-a means of transport overland across ice and snow during long winters. The Scandinavians, for whom skiing is a part of everyday life, had objected to a winter fames. They feared it would threaten their own Nordic Games, which had been held every four years since 1901. But the international Olympic Committee (IOC) agreed to stage an International Sports Week in Chamonix, France, in 1924.It was a success and the Scandinavians won 28 of the 43 medals, including nine golds. They dropped their objections and the event was retrospectively named the First Olympic Winter Games.Apart from the Second World War period the Winter Olympics were held every four years, a few months before the summer Olympics. But in 1986 the IOC changed the schedule so that the summer and winter games would be held in different years. Thus, for the only time in history, the Lillehammer (Norway) Games took place just two years after the previous Winter Olympics which were held in Albertville, France.Since the Winter Games began, 55 out of 56 gold medals in the men‘s nordic skiing events have been won by competitors from Scandinavia or the former Soviet Union. For teams from warm weather countries, cross-country skiing can pose problems. At the Calgary Games in 1988, one competitor in the 50-kilometre event was so slow that race officials feared he was lost and sent out a search party. Roberto Alvarez of Mexico had never skied more than 20 kilometres before and finished 61st and last 52 minutes behind the 60th place.Questions 28-31Complete the table below. 雅思(写作)历年真题试卷汇编8(题后含答案及解析) 题型有: 2. WRITING TASK 2WRITING TASK 2You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.1.Successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in other important professions. Some people think this is fully justified while others think it is unfair. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.正确答案:There are many good reasons which can explain this phenomenon. First, in the market economy once successful sports stars gain their popularity and become the idols of the public, many companies want them to be the image agents for their products; as a result, their income is soaring. Second, it is also the reward of the efforts and sacrifice sports professionals and their family members pay for their success. Sports stars are those out of thousands who work the hardest and also the luckiest. From the perspectives of free market economy and sports themselves, it seems fair. However, the healthy and fast development of society can only be achieved on the foundation that different fields develop and make progress together in harmony. Some other essential professions, such as science, medicine, education and so on, play an equal, perhaps even more significant role in promoting the development of society. For instance, what great contributions Newton and James Watt made in the first industrial revolution! Therefore, based on a wider horizon, it seems unfair. 涉及知识点:大作文2.Research shows that overeating can be just as harmful as smoking. Thus the advertising of certain food products should be banned as cigarette advertising is banned in many countries. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (2014-11-13)正确答案:Overeating can lead to obesity, being seriously overweight, and this is an increasing health problem, which is as serious as the effects of cigarette smoking. The latter has become less fashionable, partly due to bans on advertising and smoking in public places, but there is still a long way to go to stop it altogether. Obesity has not been seriously addressed. Obesity leads to all manner of difficulties for the individual. Finding outsize clothes, not fitting into airline and bus seats, and discrimination in the job market are all problems faced by such people. Far worse is the threat of serious health problems, such as diabetes, strokes and cancer, which all have a huge cost to the individual, their family and the community as a whole. One suggestion as to a solution for this problem is to ban advertising of certain foods, mainly junk or unhealthy food, and this could be done either voluntarily or as a result of legislation. If advertising encourages people to buy, which it must do, a ban would help, but this alone is likely to be insufficient to prevent obesity. It is important to consider why people overeat, or eat unhealthy food, and try to addressthese problems. This may well be difficult as there are many causes. For some people a limited budget means they need to buy cheaper food, which might not be healthy. Lack of time to shop properly and prepare food is a difficulty, especially in cities where people live a long way from good food shops. Ignorance of cooking methods and nutritional needs are cited by others and seem to be a problem. Parents taking the easy way out and giving their children food that they know they will eat rather than providing healthy, nutritional food is another. TV dinners, fast food and not eating together as a family all encourage this. Portion sizes in restaurants and takeaways all contribute, as do supermarket ‘buy one, get one free’ offers. All these things need to be discouraged. To balance this, there needs to be a huge campaign to get children to accept healthy habits, knowing about growing food and keeping animals and reducing waste are all part of it. Adults need to know how to prepare and cook nutritious food. Food labelling is important, but people need to know what to look for. There are a number of pressure groups that try to persuade people to eat properly and this is probably more effective than legislation, although this really can help. An alternative view is that such a ban on advertising, which would probably have to be brought about by enforceable government legislation, is not acceptable. People should be responsible for their own health and wellbeing. There is information available from a wide range of sources and there is really no excuse for ignorance of it. However, because of the huge cost to the community in terms of days lost at work, incapacity and serious illness, perhaps the government has to take action and banning the advertising of such undesirable food would be a start. It would have to be done alongside other measures to educate people about food choices and encourage them to eat healthily, whilst at the same time making supermarkets and food outlets take greater responsibility for the effects of their sales methods on their customers. 涉及知识点:大作文3.Some people say that it’s better to teach students language in small classes, while others think the number of people does not matter. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. (2014-12-04)正确答案:Acquisition of language is a very complex phenomenon. A small child absorbs its native language, or if two languages are spoken to it simultaneously (for example by the mother and the father), it can learn two. It is also known that young children learn more easily than adults, which is why Dutch and German children start foreign languages when they start school at 6. For adult learners it is usual to divide the skills required into four groups, reading, writing, listening and speaking. The method of teaching usually depends heavily on the money available, so what is best often means what can be afforded. Reading skills could be taught initially to a larger group of about 30, because a student has to recognise and remember words. Once a higher level is reached where expression is important this is far better achieved in a small group and individually, where the teacher can listen to and correct the reader. Fast, fluent reading can be learnt as a group of about 30 as technique is involved and competent readers can practise themselves.Writing, the actual putting pen to paper, is a motor skill and some students find it easy whilst others find it difficult. It is important that the teacher can see that the letters are properly formed and in the right way, otherwise fast writing is difficult, so a small group is ideal. Once students have mastered the mechanics of writing, they need practice and that can be done at home. The higher skill levels need teaching, and group size is limited by the time available to the teacher to correct and comment on work. Working in a group can make discussion about good words and phrases useful. Listening skills depend on what is available. Listening to a teacher is easier than listening to plays, television programmes or a discussion. More can be achieved with a smaller group because the teacher can judge the level of understanding much better. All these three could, if necessary, be at least introduced to a lecture theatre full of students, but, at a higher level, especially for students who are struggling, much smaller groups, even one to one, is ideal. Speaking is different. A student cannot learn to hold a conversation in a huge group. At a very basic level students can chorus sentences and replies, but real conversation which needs quick thinking is just not possible. It is important that young people learn languages and motivation is a vital key. How they are taught depends on what is available such as language laboratories, computers, books, or native speakers of the target language. In an ideal world teachers would have all this at their disposal and could teach some aspects, like watching a play on video to a large group, but having time and resources to teach very small groups. It is those countries that have most incentive and the best resources who produce the best linguists. 涉及知识点:大作文4.Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists, not local people. Why is this the case and what can be done to attract local people? (2015-02-07)正确答案:Local people will visit museums and historical sites in their area if they are interested in what they have to offer, and they will probably visit them once, perhaps paying a return visit years later. Tourists, on the other hand, are usually looking for interesting things in the area they arc visiting, and each year there will be different people visiting an area. Inevitably, especially in tourist areas, more tourists than locals visit. Museums and historical sites can do many things to encourage more people, local people and tourists alike to visit. One important factor is appeal to children. If children in a family are happy and occupied, the adults will be too. Museums can put on all sorts of activities, from looking for things and ticking them off on a sheet, dressing up in period costume, hands on science activities, craft activities, activities based on the natural world. Historical sites often feature re-enactments and such age-old skills as weaving, pottery, hawking, cooking and so on. If the site was used to film a well-known series, such as Harry Potter, that increases its appeal. Adults too are often attracted by re-enactment days and the opportunity to try new activities. Museums sometimes have additional exhibitions, especially of items loaned from other countries or areas, such as the exhibition of terra cotta warriors from China that came to London. People who would not normally havegone to the British Museum would go to see such an exhibition. Historical sites can do such things as re-enact a battle or siege, or sometimes use the ruins as an interesting backdrop for a play or concert. These special events often make provision for older people, such as reduced prices, and sometimes chosen themes are chosen that appeal especially to older people, such as Loughborough’s Main Line Steam trains 1940s days. English heritage sites offer free visits to groups of older people—and school groups too. Facilities such as buggies to transport people less able to walk will also attract people, as will good quality teashops! Using the museum or site for other cultural events such as concerts, lectures, plays or a meeting space for local groups can also help maintain interest and increase footfall. The key to increasing local interest for both museums and historical sites is to have a good number of regular well publicised, varied additional activities and events that will appeal to as wide a range of people as possible, and encourage others to visit.

Some people think the technology makes life complex, so we should make life simpler without using the technology. Agree or disagree?参考范文1:When it comes to the issue about the impact of technology, some people argue that it is better to promote simple life styles without technology, but I approve of the idea that our life becomes more convenient thanks to technology. To begin with, the way of communication is simpler due to technological improvements. In the past, it was inconvenient for individuals to contact others if they were far from each other and letter writing might be the only method of long distance communication. However, telecommunications in the current era allow people to communicate with anyone through telephones or internet. Thus, technologies actually facilitate communications, connecting people to each other. In addition, technology reduces labor intensity greatly. Decades ago, it was common that workers needed to do a lot of labor-intensive work repeatedly and housewives needed to spend several hours on domestic affairs. In contrast, automatic assembly line serves to liberate workers from such hard work and modern appliances could shorten the time of doing housework every day. As a result, modern life becomes simpler since individuals can avoid meaningless work and spare more time onother parts of life.Admittedly, some opponents may believe that their work has become more complex due to modern technology because they need to adopt some new systems, such as those Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, which waste extra time and are not friendly to users, especially old users. However, they are neglecting the potential benefits and convenience brought by modern technology. The fact is that enterprises could better manage their resources with the use of ERP systems, which contributes to regulating enterprises more scientifically. Besides, enterprises will also provide their employees with guideline for new systems, and many employees refuse to use new systems just because they are too lazy to change themselves, which cannot be a reasonable excuse for denying technologies. To sum up, life is not complex with technology and human beings should embrace technology, considering that technology offers humans convenient ways of communication and reduces labor intensity.参考范文2:Over the past century, science and technology has been developing unprecedentedly and changing every aspect of people's lives. In my point of view, technology brings about higher efficiency and greater convenience, even though it causes confusion and disorder under some circumstances. The benefits of modern technologies are multiple. Automation is widely used on the assembly line, setting free millions of people from the arduous and repetitive work. Thanks to the widespread use of the Internet, people have easier access to information than ever before. Instead of going to the library to consult reference books, they can acquire any information theywant via the Internet. Moreover, emails and mobile phones enable people to stay in touch more conveniently and efficiently, compared with the old days when they had to go to the post office or visit others in person.Despite the above-mentioned benefits,we cannot deny the fact that technology may lead to complexity and inconvenience in some cases. For instance, some old people find it difficult to use public facilities equipped with electronic-devices. However, this issue can be addressed with clear instructions provided. Another example is cyber fraud, which is difficult to prevent as the false information can spread very fast on the web. Those who get deceived may complain that the virtual space generates more crimes.Overall, there is no denying that some problems and troubles may occur When various new technologies are applied to people's lives. However, returning to a simple life without technology is not a solution and I believe a better future of mankind lies with the further progress of science and technology.参考范文3:The past decades have witnessed the technology boom and thus our lifestyle has been revolutionized. Despite all the benefits, technology complicates our life in many aspects. As a result, ceasing to use technology is believed to be the way to solve this problem. I,on the other hand, disagree with this statement. There is no denying the fact that technology may have led to complexity in day-to-day life for both the elderly and the young. The former,as the major groups requiring immediate medical treatment, find making appointments on line quite challenging. This leaves them less chances to see doctors and more inconvenience compared with old days when all the patients arewaiting outside the doctors' office with on one jumping the queue out of thin air. The latter also suffer from the side effect brought by technology because they have to constantly receive training and drilling to barely keep up with the frequent update of technology, like the widely-used CRM in the office. In spite of the inconvenience and complexity, it is inadvisable to simplify our life through abandoning technology. Actually, the cure lies in the technology itself. With user-friendly instruction on the website, such as videos or radios, the aged can be spared from the troubles. As for the young people,it is highly likely that the technology may develop perfectly enough and need no more updates. Additionally, the usage of technology,if once stopped, would definitely bring more complex situation. For example, people have to spend months traveling across the Atlantic Ocean, which can be accomplished with airplanes in a matter of hours. In conclusion,it is not sensible to get rid of technology for the complexity it brings. Instead,we should carry on developing to settle this problem.。

雅思(写作)模拟试卷100(题后含答案及解析) 题型有:1.1.In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people to do this.正确答案:It is quite common these days for young people in many countries to have a break from studying after graduating from high school. The trend is not restricted to rich students who have the money to travei, but is also evident among poorer students who choose to work and become economically independent for a period of time. The reason for this trend may involve the recognition that a young adult who passes directly from school to university is rather restricted in terms of general knowledge and experience of the world. By contrast, those who have spent some time earning a living or travelling to other places have a broader view of life and better personal resources to draw on. they tend to be more independent, which is a very important factor in academic study and research, as well as giving them an advantage in terms of coping with the challenges of student life. However, there are certainly dangers in taking time off at that important age. Young adults may end up never returning to their studies or finding it difficult to readapt to an academic environment. They may think that it is better to continue in a particular job, or to do something completely different from a university course. But overall, I think this is less likely today, when academic qualifications are essential for getting a reasonable career. My view is that young people should be encouraged to broaden their horizons. That is the best way for them to get a clear perspective of what they are hoping to do with their lives and why. Students with such a perspective are usually the most effective and motivated ones and taking a year off may be the best way to gain this.2.In many countries, students participate in some kind of paid work in their spare time. Some people think this is wrong, but others believe that such work will extend students’ knowledge and increase their sense of responsibility. What is your opinion?正确答案:When it comes to whether children should be allowed to work outside school hours, some educators are strongly against it, claiming that part-time work may have a negative influence on their study. Obviously, if students spend too much time on employment, it may contribute to poor academic performance. However, if they do a part-time job over reasonable hours, it may be extremely valuable for them. One of the clear advantages is that they could finance part of their education from their own earnings, easing the financial burden on their parents. The extra money earned may enable them to get better access to various educational resources, such as books, stationery, special courses, and special-interest clubs. Using money of their own, they tend to value such opportunities more. In return, this will undoubtedly benefit them a great deal in their study. What matters even more is that when they do part-time jobs, they may learn something practical that they could never be taught at school. For instance, a student working part-time in a software company could keep himself well-informed about the latest software not even installed in his school’s computer lab. Students in part-time employment would also stand a chance of being exposed to different types of people, thus helping them to become mature when dealing with interpersonal relationships. Let’s take the example of a student working in sales. To sell products, the young person is constantly obliged to assess and satisfy the needs of his customers. By and by, he learns to be considerate in associating with other people. This must be very beneficial for his future success. In a word, students should be encouraged to take up part-time employment outside school hours.。

Ultimately, gratuitous medical care elevates citizens' health index and education fosters high-caliber talents in all walks of life, thereby constructing a harmonious and prosperous country. 领先的;afflicted with v.受折磨;malady n.疾病;efficacious adj.有效的;灵验的;be furnished with v. 配备有;gratuitous adj.免费的;elevate v.提升;high-caliber adj.高水平的;高质量的Body 2Nevertheless, apportioning full responsibilities togovernments is ludicrous. The masses are the direct beneficiaries of a full-fledged health-care and there are a medley of contributing factors for health problems, among which the chief culprit would be people’s unhealthy habits. For example, weak-willed people, yielding to the guilty pleasure of junk foods, can hardly refrain from the urge to order crunchy hamburgers. In this case, individuals should be held accountable for their health because the government cannot forcibly dictate how citizens live a life. Aside from health, neither should the government take full onus for education. Given the finite budget, the full responsibility engenders a hefty economic load on governments because other fields equally intertwined with our life standard and national security, namely environment, agriculture and military, also cannot not be downplayed. If the government covers all children’s tuition, the strides of these domains are bound to be stymied because of funding shortfalls, thus impairing overall national strength. 命令,规定;影响;take full onus for v.承担全部责任;engender v.产生,引起;hefty adj.高大健壮的,笨重的;downplay v.对……轻描淡写;轻视,贬低;stride n.大步;步幅stymie vt.阻挠,妨碍ConclusionTo recapitulate, healthcare and education do deserve financial support from governments but simultaneously individuals, in order to keep healthy and mitigate country’s fiscal stress, also should have a shared obligation.解析总结前文,表明立场。

雅思(写作)模拟试卷162(题后含答案及解析) 题型有:1.1.Tourism is a multibillion-dollar industry that supports economic development. However, some people think that it causes too much damage to the local environment and culture. What do you think?正确答案:Tourism, as a multibillion-dollar business, is booming everywhere. Some people, labouring under the belief that tourism serves as an engine of economic growth, seem to ignore its negative effects on the environment and culture. But I think that these are not concerns that we can shrug off lightly. Over the past century, with the development of new transportation means, travel has become easier than ever. Many popular places are flooded with visitors, who spoil the beauty of nature by creating and leaving behind God-knows-how-much trash. In addition, a lot of unsightly artificial facilities have been and continue to be built in order to promote tourism, with disastrous effects on the environment. Another drawback of tourism is the conducted tour, which greatly restricts the exposure of tourists to local culture, and contributes little to mutual understanding between nations and cultures. On the contrary, the superficial impressions tourists get during such tours only intensify their stereotyped ideas about other cultures. On the other hand, the foreign ways introduced by travelers may well have an adverse impact on the local people, who tend to be susceptible to the influence of more advanced cultures. In the long run, the uniqueness of individual cultures will be wiped out by such homogenisation. But don’t get me wrong. I am not saying that the tourism industry shall be banned in any country, as it does help to shore up the economy in places which offer few sources of income, the significant point is that the unchecked growth of the travel business may render the development of an economy unsustainable. So steps have to be taken to prevent the iocal culture from being “contaminated”or even engulfed by other cultures. It is high time that we did something to rectify this by taking the environment and cultural protection into account.2.Does the lottery do more good than harm? What is your opinion?正确答案:For better or worse, the lottery has become a part of our life. There are, it is true, people who worry about the negative effects the lottery may have, but I believe it does more good than harm. First of all, the lottery is an effective way to raise money for welfare programmes and other public projects. Although taxes have traditionally been the main source for such undertakings, people pay taxes grudgingly, and increasing taxes is time-consuming and may result in increasing popular discontent. However, people eagerly buy lottery tickets, and so, so long as itis well regulated, the lottery can serve as an important source of state revenue. For average people, especially those who have no salable skills, the lottery might be the only opportunity for them to get rich-even to become a millionaire overnight. For instance, a friend of mine has been in financial trouble for many years. The other day, he hit the jackpot by selecting the winning number in the lottery. Now he is the richest guy in our community, and is leading a life he never even dreamed of before. With some people, their enthusiasm fa the tottery is not about money but about fun. They don’t care about winning or losing; they just like to choose numbers and watch the results. They enjoy the excitement of analysing the possibilities. For them, buying lottery tickets is just one of their hobbies. Some people are concerned that the lottery may encourage laziness and gambling. But evidence from the countries where public lotteries are legal does not justify this worry. In fact, in China the lottery has turned out not to be a monster but something beneficial. In conclusion, experience has shown that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.。

Do you think that being a celebrity brings more benefits or more problems?正确答案:Every year a few new stars rise in entertainment industry as well as in other areas and a far big number of people are always dreaming to be famous. There is a perception that the merits of being a celebrity come along with downsides. However, I believe that there are more benefits than problems brought about by being well-known. First and foremost, being famous basically means being wealthier. In my country, not only do quite a few sports personalities make a fortune in their own area, but also they are paid millions of dollars to promote some brands. Actually manufacturers find the sales of the products are boosted when advertised by popular sportsmen or sportswomen as these talents have huge numbers of fans and followers. Second, celebrities can enjoy some privileges that ordinary people can hardly imagine to experience. This is particularly true when a big event, like the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, is held and the entrance tickets are excessively demanded, the more famous a person is, the more likely he or she can get the entry, because celebrities are the preferred guests wherever they show up. Admittedly, too much exposure to public means that celebrities can barely lead lives of an ordinary person and their behavior may be soon known worldwide. However, these problems can be countered by taking precautious measures to minimize the negative effects, such as hiring body guards and using wits to talk. All in all, I think this difference between a celebrity and a normal person brings more pros than cons to most famous people. Therefore, why not fight everything possible for the difference?2.On a recent holiday you lost a valuable item. Fortunately you have travel insurance to cover the cost of anything lost. Write a letter to the manager of your insurance company. In your letter describe the item you lost explain how you lost it tell the insurance company what you would like them to do 正确答案:Dear Mr. Smith, I bought travel insurance at your company to cover valuables last Monday before going for a holiday trip and now i am writing to claim for a lost phone. This is a white Iphone 4S 32G. I purchased it in Hong Kong with an invoice later found at my home, which says clearly the purchase date and the price (HKD 4,800). Unfortunately I lost it. This Tuesday when I was taking a boat on a river in Guilin, my tourist destination this time, I used the phone to take some photos and videos. Everything went well until I finished the boat ride. When I wanted to phone my family, i realised I had lost it. immediately I rushed backto the boat, searching every possible corner, but I couldn’t find it. i reported the case to the tour guide who registered for me at the local Lost and Found. I have repeatedly called the Lost and Found office, and there seems nothing I can do but activate the insurance policy. Would you please pay for the sum of money according to the terms included in the policy? All documents needed are attached with this letter. Thank you for your kind assistance. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours sincerely, Fan Yang3.Some people think that the teenage years are the happiest times of most people’s lives. Others think that adult life brings more happiness, in spite of greater responsibilities. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.正确答案:There are several stages in people’s lives: childhood, school, career or retirement. As to which is the happiest time, teenagers and adults may come up with reverse answers. I would like to examine these two age groups’ views first and then give mine as follows. Those who believe teenagers are the happiest have their sound reasons. First of all, there is no need for teenagers to take any responsibility. They are supported financially and emotionally by their parents, and although they may be included in family decisions, they are not ultimately responsible. Another reason is that away from these serious concerns, young people have an active social life with their friends. For example, many boys hang out with friends, having fun together rather than exchanging information upon how to make a fortune. With all this to experience, teenagers see their parents’lives as boring and stressful. However, the reverse is also true. In the first place, adults appreciate the joys of maturity, which may include a contented family life, long-lasting friendships and a satisfying career. For example, at work, many of them are challenged and stimulated by the increasing professional skills they acquire. In the second place, the maturity gives adults greater confidence in their own judgment. They are not afraid to express their opinion when others disagree. Last but not least, being financially independent is an advantage over the youngsters, it is easy to imagine how happy an adult is when he has spent their own earnings buying his first new car, while a child would timidly ask parents for some pocket money. Both these periods can be happy times, but I look back at my own teenage years with no desire to go back. Joys are appreciated when a big decision is made and later a good result is achieved. Obviously the adults usually are the decision-makers. In fact, decisionmaking requires wisdom and maturity, but teenagers, who tend to be followers, do not have sufficient life experiences to possess these qualities.。

Others take the opposite view and say that learning to be competitive is the best preparation. Tell which one you agree with and explain why.正确答案:Learning to be competitive is clearly the best preparation for life. No one can be trusted. This becomes very clear as one has more experience in the world. Everyone is out to make their own lives better and must do everything they can to succeed. Let me explain. In the first place everyone knows that man is by nature a competitive, aggressive, and selfish animal. Even Darwin, in The Origin of the Species, makes it very clear that the weak will die, and only the strong will survive. Since this is our fate, the only intelligent thing to do is to be strong, and be a winner. Also, in the business world, everyone knows that the most important order of the day is to beat your competitors. This can only be done by competing by any and all means necessary to win. No one wants to go out of business, so you must compete. Also, you must be better than the other employees you are working with, because in this age of downsizing, you do not want to be fired. Further, in the sports world, the strongest will come out as winners. They become our heroes and they are glorified in every way. In fact, the only way our world rewards people is to give trophies to the winners, not to the losers. Everyone wants glory in life and learning to be competitive is the only path to glory. Therefore, the only way to survive in this world is to be competitive. To learn to cooperate is a ridiculous way to live one’s life. In fact, I know that when I wish to beat someone who is weaker willed than I, I will use their foolish cooperative actions against them in the end.2.Should children pursue sport for recreation or as a form of competition? Give your opinion and reasons to support your argument.正确答案:Every parent wants their child to have a happy childhood and to grow up as a well-balanced person. To this end, we adults should always present children with a view of a world which is true, good and beautiful. It is therefore easy to answer the question of whether sport for children should be regarded as recreation or as competition. Recreation is clearly the key to future happiness. When children take part in sport games just for fun, they will gain pleasure from them and cultivate good relationships with others and a sense of cooperation. It also allows children to view each other as collaborators, especially when they get in trouble. On the other hand, competition is absolutely destructive for children and the psychological damage cannot be over-estimated. Competitive games by definition must produce a loser and a winner. Defeat will undermine self-esteem and causeself-doubt. For winners, it does not build character: winning produces feelings of pride which are short-lived. The more the young compete, the more they need to compete to feel good about themselves. Once they fail to beat others, they will feel very frustrated. Competitive encounters have an equally toxic effect on children’s relationships among children. In a competition, each child inevitably comes to regard others as rivals or as obstacles to his or her own success. It leads children to envy winners and to dismiss losers. Children become suspicious of just about everyone, as nobody would trust a person who may gain from his failure. The problem is competition itself. If we would like our children to enjoy their childhood and make a friendly world for them, a playing field should not be turned into a battlefield.。

However, it is sometimes claimed that any child can be taught to become a good sports person or musician. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.正确答案:The relative importance of natural talent and training is a frequent topic of discussion when people try to explain different levels of ability in, for example, sport, art, or music. Obviously, education systems are based on the belief that all children can effectively be taught to acquire different skills, including those associated with sport, art, or music. So from our own schools experience, we can find plenty of evidence to support the view that a child can acquire these skills with continued teaching and guided practice. However, some people believe that innate talent is what differentiates a person who has been trained to play a sport or an instrument, from those who become good players. In other words, there is more to the skill than a learned technique, and this extra talent cannot be taught, no matter how good the teacher or how frequently a child practices. I personally think that some people do have talents that are probably inherited via gene. Such talents can give individuals a facility for certain skills that allow them to excel, while more hard-working students never manage to reach a comparable level. But, as with all questions of nature versus nurture, they are not mutually exclusive. Good musicians or artists and exceptional sport stars have probably succeeded because of both good training and natural talent. Without the natural, continuous training would be neither attractive nor productive, and without the training, the child would not learn how to exploit and develop their talent. In conclusion, I agree any child can be taught particular skills, but to be really good in areas such as music, art or sport, then some natural talent is required.2.“When people succeed, it is because of hard work. Luck has nothing to do with success. “Do you agree or disagree with the quotation above? Use specific reasons and examples to explain your position.正确答案:Success is always what human beings chase. Someone succeeds for his luck while someone succeeds for his hard work. As far as i am concerned, I fully agree with the claim that there is no correlation between success and luck. First of all, an education is the key factor of success. One wishing to be admitted to the university will have to take several tests. It is doubtful that someone will be so lucky that knowing nothing, he could pass the test with a high score. Therefore, in order to be successful, one should prepare for the tests and work hard, because a goodeducation will provide him with a good job and an opportunity to accomplish some of his goals and dreams. In my lifetime, I have never met a person who could graduate from a college without working hard. Secondly, it is impossible to make a career if one is lacking knowledge. Luck plays no role in achieving this success. Even if someone was unbelievably lucky enough to become a manager, not being qualified enough, he will be asked to resign in the near future because of his inability due to lack of knowledge and experience to make right decisions. For instance, i used to work for a very small company owned by a friend. Although he had no knowledge or experience in business, the company had been profitable for a short time, which he attributed to his luck. But this company was finally closed because of the wrong strategies and decisions made by him. On the other hand, it can not be denied that many businessmen become successful only for their new ideas, not for their long time of hard work and many people having done a lot of work still can not be successful men. Sometimes luck may play an important role in success. But it is mainly acting through one’s diligent work, it is the hard work that leads us to the front of luck. In sum, success is every person’s pursuit. We always dream that someday we will be successful businessmen, famous scientists, or distinguished politicians. All of these things are simply not possible without hard work. Luck has no place in such a scheme of events.。

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.正确答案:The column graph compares the proportions of men and women in executive positions in the ACME Oil Company for 12 months from July 1993 to June 1994. Approximately 76% of workers in the lowest executive positions of Officer Grade E are women. This is the highest percentage of women in any executive job category in the ACME Oil Company. In contrast, the lowest proportion of men is found in this category. As the executive position increases to a higher officer grade, the percentage of women decreases and the percentage of men increases. This trend continues throughout the graph. The least difference between the percentage of men and women found in a job category exists in the Officer Grade C, which is a middle executive position. Here women represent 40% and men represent 60% of workers in this category. In the highest executive position of Officer Grade A, women represent only about 5% of workers. This stands in marked contrast to the 95% of men represented in this job category. In conclusion, men occupy a greater percentage of high executive positions in the ACME Oil Company. In fact, the higher the executive position, the higher the percentage of men represented in the category. In comparison, women’s representation is inversely proportional to men’s, so that the higher the executive job category, thelower the percentage of women to be found.2.The graph below shows radio and television audiences throughout the day in 1992. 1.Some people say that the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others, however, say that this would have little effect on public health and that other measures are required. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
正确答案: A problem of modern societies is the decling level of health in the general population. One possible solution is to provide more sports facilities to encourage a more active lifestyle. However, there are some people who doubt whether the solution would have effects. Advocates of this solution believe that increasing the number of sports facilities is the best way to improve the well-being of people. First of all, nowadays people have to devote more time and energy to their careers and therefore they are too busy to spare time for physical exercises. If there were easy-to-reach local sports facilities, they would be more likely to take part in physical activities regularly. Another reason is that today’s sedentary lifestyle means that physical activity is no longer part of people’s leisure time. If more sports facilities were offered, doing a variety of sports would be much more attractive than just sitting in front of a screen every evening. However, there are some reasons why the solution would have little effect. In the first place, interest in sport is not universal, and additional facilities might simply attract those who are already fit, not those who most need them. What we should do is to help children develop a positive attitude to exercise at an early age. in the second place, there may be better ways of tackling this problem. For example, high tax penalties could be imposed on high-fat food products, tobacco and alcohol, as excessive consumption of any of these contributes to poor health. Even improving public transport would help because it takes longer to walk to the bus stop than to the car. In my opinion, increasing the number of sports facilities would not have the desired results. People should be encouraged to form the habit of regular physical exercises when they are young, in addition, some better approaches may assist to improve people’s health.
2.The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
正确答案:The graph shows energy consumption in the US from 1980 to 2013, and projected consumption to 2030. There was a fluctuation in the number of petrol and oil from 1980 to 1995. After that the number will rise gradually until
2030, peaking at 47q. The 50 years witnessed a slight increase in the number of coal. After a fluctuation from 1980 to 2015, the number of natural gas will remain stable at 25q until 2030. There will be a slow growth in the number of nuclear over the 50 years. Similarly, the number of solar/wind will grow moderately during this time period. However, the 50 years will see little change in the number of hydro power. Petrol and oil had and will have the highest number in the six energy sources throughout this period. Either natural gas or coal occupied the second place. The number of nuclear was slightly higher than that of solar/wind and hydro power had the lowest number. Overall, the US will continue to rely on fossil fuels, with sustainable and nuclear energy sources remaining relatively insignificant.。
