传统教学起始阶段教学字母一般是从字母的名称教起,但英语字母的名称读音跟字母或字母组合在单词中所代表的音素是不一致的。
如bag是由3个字母组成,但学生无法把字母名称的读音跟字母或字母组合在单词中的发音联系起来,只能靠死记硬背,有的甚至靠用汉字或汉语拼音给单词注音来记忆,不少学生由于记不住单词而失去了对学习英语的兴趣和信心。
因此在教学中我尝试着改变传统教学的方法,先教字母、字母组合在单词中的发音,并根据发音规律拼读、拼写单词。
比如在教“a”这个字母时,要让学生同时知道它在重读开音节和重读闭音节中的两个最基本读音,然后把a放入单词中;如在name这个单词中,由于学生见到n就会发[n],见到m就会发[m],把a放入n与m 之间,并告诉他们“a”应发开音节的读音,学生就自然发出[neim]这个音,再强调“e”在词尾不发音。
如此训练,学生可以根据读音记忆单词,使单词记忆变得更牢固。
在具体实施教学时,初始阶段可将教材中的单音节词归纳出来,这些词必须是按照字母组合的发音规律能拼出来的。
这有利于培养学生见词就能拼读、听音就能拼写的能力。

要尽量在单词被忘记之前在脑子里过一遍，这样，它留给你的印象要深得多，就算以后忘记，也很容易记起来。
二、朗读拼读记单词在教学中我发现个别同学背单词很困难，不是把字母顺序背错，就是单词里某个字母记不准，调查一下发现他们把英语单词当做电话号码，一个字母一个字母地背字母顺序，死记硬背26个字母的排列。

没有大量的词汇做基础，即使熟练的掌握了语法规则，仍然不能很好的理解听说和阅读材料，无法用准确的语言和他人交流，更别说写出流畅的英语作文了。
因此，词汇的学习和掌握对学习语言来说是十分重要的。
初中学生可尝试以下十种记忆英语单词的方法。
一、读音记忆法。
大部分英语单词符合拼读规则，可根据字母组合、读音规则进行记忆，只要读音读准了，大部分单词是比较容易根据读音规则写出来的。
记单词时重点记忆元音字母和含有元音字母的字母组合。
因为辅音字母的发音比较简单，基本同字母的音标相一致，而元音字母比较复杂，在开音节、闭音节中有不同的发音，不同的字母和字母组合，有相同的发音，而相同的字母和字母组合又有不同的发音。
因此在记单词时，先把单词的发音读准，然后再仔细看哪一个元音或字母组合发这个音，记住元音或字母组合，这个单词就基本记住了。
例如：name/map，bread/tea等。
二、分类记忆法。
记忆单词时，将英语单词按一定的方式分类或把单词归结成一定的系列进行记忆，使单词间的联系形成更多的思维模式，以便加深记忆。
单词的分类可按词性、词形、词义、读音等分类。
在词义分类中，如交通工具系列：bike，bus，jeep，truck，taxi，train，等。
也可以按家庭、动物、文具、食品、称谓、颜色、职业等进行分类。
在词形或读音分类中，如：face，lace，place，pace，space，race等。
三、整体记忆法。
在学汉语时，我们并不是每一个都是一笔一划的去记忆，而多数是根据部首组合来整体记忆。

为了提高学生记忆英语单词能力，我做了些有益的尝试和探索，现总结如下：一、瞬间记忆法。
目前，低年级开展的“脑功能开发”实验对记忆英语单词有较大的帮助。

学生笑了，我也笑了，他们风趣地叫这种方法“过目不忘法”。
二、联系法。
在学生有了一定基础的时候，我采取用熟悉的单词记忆新单词的方法。
英语单词，有的只差一个或几个字母，比如sun与son，too、two、to等，再如light、 right 、 bright与eight，look 、book 、cook、good 、food 、wood、与food 等。
甚至有的词是熟悉的两个单词合并而成，如classroom是由class和room合成的， Sunday是由Sun和day合成的，football是由foot和ball 合成的，等等。
这样发现规律，分散难点，利用规律，充分调动学生已有的知识经验，掌握新的词汇，用熟悉的单词记忆新单词，既有巩固，又有提高，效果很好。
三、关系法。
利用字母与音标之间的关系记忆单词，英语单词读音与书写相互印证。
在教学实践中，学生掌握了音标就发现了一条规律：字母与音标之间存在着必然的联系。
比如，a字母在闭音节词中发[[?]，那么[b?t]肯定是bat，map肯定是[m?p],以此类推，举一反三，学生便掌握了这种记忆的有效途径。
经过一段时间训练，学生听其音，知其形；见其形，知其音，读写单词能力都有了很大提高。

其实，80%以上的单词，读音和拼写是统一的，所以，正确读音会为牢固记忆单词打下坚实基础。
同时掌握一定的拼读规则，会更加有利于记忆单词。
属于开音节单词，如：site,bike ,bathe,breathe, 较长单词，september,pronunciation,saturday,yesterday.但凡事也有一个例外，所以我们还要关注那些不规则的读音单词，如：plaugh,christmas,climb,handsome。
在记忆单词时注意力需高度集中，做到手、眼、口、耳、心、脑并用。
千万且忌朗读一遍英语说一句汉语——这既浪费时间又容易养成忘不掉汉语的坏习惯。
逐渐培养自己用英语思维的学习方式。
二、利用构词法规律，加强词汇记忆。
利用构词法学生不仅可以扩大和记忆词汇，而且有利于复习和巩固以往的词汇，同时增强对新词汇的认知,也能加强新旧词汇的联系和对比。
构词法基本上分为：派生法——给词加前缀或后缀、词类转换法、合成法。

一、读音规则记忆法
它就是按照元音字母、元音字母组合、辅音字母及辅音字母组
合在开音节和闭音节的读音规律记忆。
例如：ea，ee，er，ir，ur，
or分别能发[i：][：][：]等。
还有些固定的字母组合，例如：tion
发[]或[]，ture发[]，ing发[i]，ly发[li]，ty发[ti]和各种前
缀、后缀，例如：a-，re-，un-，dis-，im-；-ed，-ing，-ly，
-er，-or，-ful，-y等都有其比较固定的发音。
掌握了这些规则，
记单词时就不必一个字母一个字母地记忆了。
二、字母变化记忆法
英语单词中以某个单词为基础，加、减、换、调一个字母就成
了另一个新单词。
具体方法如下：
1、加字母例如：thoughthrough，treethree，forfour
2、减字母例如：shehe，closelose，startstar
3、换字母例如：booklook/cook，cakelake/wake/make/take
4、调字母（即改变字母顺序）例如：blowbowl，singsign，fromform
在日常生活中可以根据所处的环境，所见到、所摸到的事物，联想相关的英语单词。
例如：打球时联想到：ball，（play）basketball，（play）football，（play）volleyball，playground 等等；吃饭时联想到：dining-room，（have）breakfast，（have）lunch，（have）supper等等；睡觉时联想到：bed，bedroom，gotobed，sleep，gotosleep，fallasleep等等。
如果长期坚持下支，效果就会很好。
四、归类记忆法
在记忆过程中，把所学到的全部单词进行归纳、分类、整理，使其条理清晰，一目了解，然后再分别记忆。
例如：
1、按题材分类例如：把名词分为生活用品、动物、植物、水果、食物、家庭成员、人体各部位、学习用具、学科、交通工具、地方场所、星期、月份、季节等；把动词分为系动词、助动词、行为运动词和情态动词，等等。
2、按形近词分类例如：three-there，four-your，quite-quiet
3、按同义词分类例如：big-large，hard-difficult，
begin-start
4、按反义词分类例如：right-wrong，young-old，come-go
5、按读音分类例如：字母组合ea在eat，meat，teacher中读[i：]；而在bread，ready，heavy中读[e]；在great，break
中读[ei]。
这样不仅单词记住了，而且读音也掌握了。
掌握一些构词法知识，可以大大地增加自身的词汇量。
英语构词法主要有以下三种情况：
1、派生法这种方法就是在一个词根的基础上加上一个前缀或后缀，从而构成另一个新词，并且与该词根的含义有着密切的联系，此类词便称为派生词。
如常用的前缀in-，im-，un-，dis-等表示否定含义；后缀-er，-or，-ist等表示人。
2、合成法这种方法就是把两个或几个各自独立的单词并到一起组成一个新的单词，由此法构成的单词便称为合成词或复合词。
3、转化法这种方法就是在不改变拼写形式的基础上，由一种词性转化为另一种词性，主要有名词转化为动词、动词转化为名词、形容词转化为动词或名词等。
六、循环记忆法
它是指对识记的单词反复记忆的方法。
根据遗忘规律，人的遗忘从识记后便开始，先快后慢。
因此，复习的时间间隔就应是先短后长。
例如，今天学到的单词，在当天背熟之后，第二天、第四天、第七天、第十四天、第二十八天都应复习一次，这样才能形成长时间的记忆。
总之，单词记忆的方法多种多样，只有采用科学的、行之有效的记忆方法，认真地、及时地、周期性地复习，才能提高英语单词记忆效果。
七、阅读记忆法
也就是把词汇的记忆融入阅读之中，在看一篇文章的时候，遇
到不认识的单词先做记号，并猜测它们的含义，等到把全文看完后再从字典上把它们的意思找出来。
就自我感觉来说，这种方法不枯燥，记得比较牢，但缺点是记忆的词汇量比较少，而且耗时也比较长，不适合想求速成的同学。
八、间隔反复记忆法
记单词具体做法就是先规定自己一天背的词汇的数量，然后在一天中每隔一段时间把这些词汇通背一遍，相隔的时间不宜太短，以2-3小时为宜，早上背一遍，中午背一遍，下午背一遍，晚上再背一遍或两遍。
隔几天后再把这些背过一遍。
如此循环下去，会收到很好的记忆效果。
九、勤于查词典。
遇到不会的单词先猜，猜不出再查，不要一遇到就查，这样不利于自己记忆的。
查的过程中，切忌仅仅限于所查的单词。
譬如在查respect的时候，就应该做到“一目十行”。
此时一定要勤。
也就是在查该单词的时候，应该注意它的前后几个单词。
因为它的前后几个往往就是它的派生词或形近词，这样差一个就能记住好几个，做到事半功倍。
