连词主要有四类:(1)用and, but, or, while(而,却),when(就在这时)等构成并列句。

(2)用if, unless, before, after, until, although, though, as, since, because, so, so that等构成含状语从句的复合句(这里要注意区分一下复杂句和复合句,复合句是包含在复杂句这个概念里面的)。

1. There can be no question about the value of a safety program. From a financial standpoint alone, safet y ____. (‘99)A. comes offB. turns upC. pays offD. holds up答案:C.

It was a cold January in 1925 in Nome, Alaska. The town was cut off from the rest of the world due to heavy snow.On the 20th of that month, Dr. Welch 36 a sick boy, Billy, and knew he had diphtheria, a deadly infectious(传染) disease mainly affecting children. The children of Nome would be 37 if it struck the town. Dr. Welch needed medicine as soon as possible to stop other kids from getting sick. 38 ,the closest supply was over 1,000 miles away, in Anchorage.36. A. examined B. warned C. interviewedD. cured37. A. harmless B. helpless C. fearlessD. careless38. A. Moreover B. Therefore C. OtherwiseD. However【解析】37.

1.There can be no question about the value of a safety program. From a financial standpoint alone, safety ___. (‘99)
A. comes off
B. turns up
C. pays off
D. holds up

2.They are needed for ____ food into energy and body maintenance.
A. shifting
B. transferring
C. altering
D. transforming
【答案】D
3.With it, astronauts will acquire a workhouse vehicle ____ of flying intospace and returning many times.
A. capable
B. suitable
C. efficient
D. fit
【答案】A
【解析】capable of doing sth.

4.Moreover, inaccurate or indefinite words may make ____ difficult for the listener to understand the message which is being transmitted to him.
A. that
B. it
C. so
D. this
【答案】B
【解析】make it diffcult for sb. to do sth.

5.Getting enough vitamins is essential to life, although the body has no nutritional use for excess vitamins. Many people ____ believe in being on the "safe side" and thus take extra vitamins. (96)
A. nevertheless
B. therefore
