An obvious reason is lack of sleep. However, there are also causes for getting too little sleep. Homework is a daily occurrence for most students, one that can take three to four hours per night. A teenager who wants to be able to take part in any activity besides homework must stay up late to fit everything in. Club activities, sports, computergame playing, and TV viewing, for example, all contribute to(促成) teens having less time for both homework and sleep. Sometimes teens lack sleep because of afterschool jobs that are taken on to earn extra money forcollege, family expenses, or simply for clothes.Physical problems are another factor that can cause students to fall asleep in class. For example, insomnia, which may keep a student up at night, causing exhaustion(疲惫不堪) during class hours, is a serious problem that may require medical attention. Medical evidence also supports the idea that each person has a body clock that helps to decide his or her sleep pattern. Unluckily, these body clocks do not always work according to school timetables. The effects of falling asleep in class can be quite serious. First of all, sleeping in class is not a good way to endear(使受喜爱) yourself to teachers. In addition, it is highly possible that other students may make jokes about those who sleep in class. However, the most harmful effect of sleeping in class is missing out on important points. In the long run, sleepers may end up failing classes.Since teens are probably not going to deal with the problem, falling asleep in class will probably remain an alltoocommon occurrence. It will continue until more teens find a way to balance their personal and social lives with school and work, while still finding enough time to sleep.根据短文内容,完成表格。

Social media has been around for years, and most of us would probably describe it as any Internet medium that can be used to share information with others, including blogs, forums, applications, games, websites and other stuff. But let me ask you this: what exactly is so “social” about sitting before a computer, setting up a blog and blogging for days without anybody reading it, or scrolling through your Facebook full of information from 500 friends you barely know? If you ask me, it can be a way moreanti-social than anything.Social media is not a “thing”. It’s not just Facebook, WeChat and Weibo. It’s more of a frame of mind and a state of being. It’s about how you use it to improve your relationships withother people in real life. However, we tend to rely on technology and social media so much that it can actually tear apart those relationships.Social media isn’t about numbers. When someone says“social media”, web giants like Facebook, Twitter, WeChat and Weibo instantly pop into our minds, often because they have more updates, more friends, more followers, more links, more photos, and more everything. We tend to get distracted by the number game, thinking “volume, volume, volume”. It has led to a lot of meaningless noise and information overload. As the old saying goes, quality over quantity is usually the way to go. So, social media is not just about lots of people aimlessly pushing around lots of information.Social media needs to have an “IRL”factor—an Internet slang standing for “In Real Life”. It should affect how a person thinks or acts offline. After all, social media shouldn’t be an end in itself. It has been built to enhance your actual social life. Take for example an event that a person attends because he is invited by the host on Facebook through a Facebook event page. Something like that definitely has the IRL factor. Likewise, a WeChat photo that touches someone so much that he feels the need to bring it up and describe it to someone else during a dinner date also has the IRL factor. So, is it really considered to be social to spend an hour scrolling through photos on Weibo, with no thoughtful or emotional effect and no interaction with others? In fact, there is no wall between real life and Internet life where true social media exists. Social media is nota specific place on the Internet or just a thing you use to see what other people are doing. It’s all about creating meaningful experiences and relationships wherever you may be.4. What does the u nderlined phrase “tear apart” in Paragraph 3 mean in the text?A. Destroy.B. Change.C. Continue.D. Strengthen.5. The writer thinks that social media should be_________.A. a number of websites where people communicateB. a set of social tools like Facebook, WeChat and WeiboC. a collection of online applications where ideas are exchangedD. a group name for online platforms used to strengthen meaningful relationships6. According to the author, which of the following cases has an IRL factor?A. Updating Facebook on a regular basis.B. Folio wing new friends on Facebook.C. Visiting a museum with friends after reading a story on Weibo.D. Reading Twitter to see what other people are doing and thinking about.7. What is the author’s purpose of writing this article?A. To explain the im_portance of social media.B. To inform the negative effects of social media.C. To call on readers to use social media to promote real social life.D. To encourage readers to interact with others in real life more often.四、短文七选五:Imagine going to the doctor to get treatment for a terrible fever. 1The robot detects the cause of your fever, travels to the appropriate system and provides medication directly for the infected area.2They are called “nanorobot”(纳米机器人) and engineering teams around the world are working to design robots that will eventually be used to treat everything from fever to cancer. In recent years, researchers have been building nanorobots out of a familiar material—the same stuff that makes human life possible. 3DNA is all around and in you—you just can't see it. If you were to look inside almost any cell inside any living creature, you would find DNA.This might sound surprising—especially since these nanorobots don't need batteries(电池) or any power sources. Instead, they work by using the natural structure of DNA.The nanorobots “crawl” (缓慢行进)on DNA. Sometimes researchers refer to these things as DNA “spiders”.4 A nanorobot could, perhaps, destroy just a cancerous cell, for example, but leave healthy cells alone.5But the future is bright for nanorobots made from DNA. One day, perhaps the machine made from DNA will swim around in the human body, delivering medicine to diseased cells or helping doctors diagnose problems. Or maybe it'll help build the smallest computers the world has ever seen.A.These nanorobots are made from DNA.B.Nanorobots made from DNA aren't useful yet.C.This description will give you a simple picture of the legs of a DNA nanorobot.D.In other words, the DNA nanorobot destroys the track as it goes.E.Being able to make such a tiny thing move in a certain way might be useful for health.F.Instead of giving you a pill or a shot, the doctor puts a tiny robot into your bloodstream.G.In fact, we're not that far from seeing devices like this actually used in medical procedures.Keys:一、词汇运用:1.affairs2. software3. appreciate4. military5. access6.obviously7. badminton8. somehow9. battery10. comment11. boots二、短语填空1. takes off 1. was glued to 3. turn to2. bring up3. was knocked off hisfeet 3. at our fingertips 4. above all else 2. shot past 4. cut back on 4. get in touch with三、阅读理解:ADCC四、短文七选五:FGAEB。
