3. Development by Cause & Effect
Cause and effect is an analytical mode of paragraph development. It shows how events are influenced or caused by others.
It is hard to be clear with this type of paragraph, so be thorough in your discussion and cautious in the details you describe.
The purpose of this type of paragraph is to provide a better understanding of the topic or to direct attention to the significance of a consequence.
3. Development by Cause & Effect
Through language we can share ideas and experiences. The human mouth and throat are so constructed that we can utter a variety of sounds. Language is the device for matching certain combinations of sounds with the symbols – words and sentences – as well as in the images that we receive from our senses. Thus we can turn experiences into symbols and communicate to other people through the use of language. Any one individual, therefore, can learn much more from others than he or she can discover alone. Language enables people to pass ideas from group to group and from generation to generation.

The parts of a paragraph
A paragraph is a group of related sentences that develops one main idea. A paragraph has: ➢a title which introduces the topic. ➢a topic sentence which tells the reader how the paragraph will develop. ➢supporting details which explain the topic sentence or expand it. ➢a conclusion which tells the reader the paragraph has finished.
➢ Pollution has caused three major problems in the last decades.
➢ There are two kinds of memory: short-term and longterm.
➢ Women are playing an increasingly important part in society today.
