Chinese Shadow Play
Introduction
Shadow Play, also known as shadow puppetry(木偶;傀儡), is one of Chinese historic folk arts. • Performed by three to five puppeteers, shadow play is a form of storytelling that uses puppets against an illuminated(照明的) backdrop(幕布) to create the illusion(幻觉) of movement.
Both Chinese artists and the Government are making great efforts to conserve and propagate the ancient art form. And now, China has applied to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) for a certification as an intangible cultural heritage. So as the constructer of china’s future, we are obliged to preserve the precious heritage.
