英汉翻译中的增减词法

增词与减词

增词――一般说来，英译汉增词，汉译英减词

1.增减评论性的词（常常出现在文学翻译中，慎用）

2.增减对象词

3.增减范畴词

4.增减动词（自然增词和认为增词）

例1：He wished that he had asked her to dance，and that he knew her name.

解析：增添评论性的词

翻译：他多希望自己当时请她跳了舞，那他现在就知道她的名字了，那该有多好啊。

例2：The first day was crossed out and the last thought which went through my mind at the end of this important day was：After all――I do not belong here ；I am just loaned.

解析：（1）增减对象词，关注上下文，及物与不及物

如：The first day was crossed out 第一天已经划去了――第一天已经从日历上划去了。

（2）有灵主语句与无灵主语句

有灵---人作主语

无灵---物作主语

如：the last thought 无灵――有灵

翻译：第一天已经从日历上划去了，在这重要的一天即将结束的时候，我的脑海中浮现出的最后一个想法是：毕竟，我不属于这儿，我只是雇来的。

例3：1998年是联合国确定的国际海洋年，中国政府愿介绍中国海洋事业发展的情况。

解析：（1）有分句的汉译英步骤

找谓语――找连词――翻译――重读（找每个分句中的核心谓语）

（2）“是……的”---被动语态标志

（3）“要”---wish to

“愿”---would like to

（4）增减范畴词

中文则减去范畴词---“情况”

翻译：The Year 1998 was designated by United Nations as the International Ocean Year and the Chinese Government would like to introduce the development of the China’s Marine Career to the world.

例4：Their galabias and turbans stained by the sweat and dirt of a long day’s work，they sat in front of a wayside shop，enjoying three of the best things in life along the Nile---tea，conversation，and the water pipe.

解析：（1）增减动词

自然增词法

如：He is wearing a coat，a hat and a scarf.

A×（B+C+D）=AB+AC+AD 分配

又如：Their 与 of a long days work 结合到一起翻译

---“他们干了一整天的活儿”

再如：tea，conversation，and the water pipe

---“ 喝茶，聊天，抽水烟”

（2）二二对应结构

如：galabias and turbans stained by the sweat and dirt 方法一：传统译法：偏正结构的主谓译法

---“被汗水和尘土污染了的袍子和头巾”――“袍子和头巾上沾上了汗水和尘土”

方法二：二二对应

---“袍子上，头巾上，又是汗，又是土”

翻译：他们干了一天的活儿，袍子上，头巾上，又是汗，又是土，他们便坐在路边商店的门口，享受着尼罗河沿岸，人生当中最美好的三件事---喝茶、聊天、抽水烟。

例5：一架飞机从昆明起飞，载着我们飞跃了崇山峻岭来到了背景。

分析：（1）找谓语方法。先找到主语和宾语，就知道中间的动词了。如本句中，“飞机载着我们”

（2）句子不通顺时

1）重新断句

2）主谓结构偏正译法或者偏正结构主谓译法

如：一架飞机从昆明起飞――一架从昆明起飞的飞机

（3）一句话中必须有动词谓语

翻译：A plane from Kunming carried us over a lot of mountains to Beijing.
