1、As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate.
People’s live is full of technology products which bring us much convenience. Vehicles such as autos as well as aircrafts increase humanity’s efficiency of trips or journeys so that everyone has more leisure time. Besides, calculators and computers to which almost every people belongs make us to calculate more rapidly and accurately. Virtually, all technology products demonstrate that it develops social progress.
In spite of many advantages of technology, it cause a number of problems. There is no doubt that people go up to higher floor via electric elevator instead of climbing steps, have a trip by auto vehicles instead walking and also writing in PC not in paper by pen. Admittedly technology induce us to become more and more lazy result in our ideas which become simple and thinking ability which become narrow.
2、. I disagree with a national curriculum because all students are not the same, they have different interests, and this curriculum would not permit teachers to explore and teach to students interests.
First, a curriculum that becomes nation wide is supposed to teach all students the same material and perhaps the same way. All seventh graders will have to solve algebraic equations and then they will all be the same. But students are not the same. All children develop at different rates, they have different abilities. One cannot expect a child from Uptown Manhattan to be doing the same thing as the kids in southern Illinois. The conditions are different, they have different funding and quality of teachers. Parents involvement in their childrens education is different and that would affect what the students learn.
Besides having different abilities, the students have different interests or necesities. In one part of the nation it may be important to learn trigonometry and calculus because it is a high tech area. They use many computers and there might be a big market for careers in that field, but in another part of the country it might be more important to learn about farming and erosion. That the interest would be different. Teachers also need the freedom to teach what the students are interested in. If the kids want to know about the Chicano Movement, they should have the opportunity to learn about it, instead of learning about African American Civil Rights Movement. City kids are interested in different things than kids rural areas, as well as kids from the East Coast and the West Coast.
For these reasons I would have to disagree with a national curriculum. Children are different and they should have the right to learn about things they are interested in. Teachers should have the freedom to teach what he/she thinks is more important or interesting to their students. Teachers should teach their students, not a curriculum.
3、I am favor of the opinion that formal education is a part of education, it is ok when it set our mind free, If not, no matter whether formal education restrain our minds, We have more remedy for it. The reasons as follows: It is commonly accepted that the purpose of formal education is develop reasoning, master the methods of scientific inquiry, cultivate the intellect .In this extent, formal education give students basic knowledge and common-sense that we tend to discover the world and resolve the problem with it. There is no sigh to indicate formal education provided by any school or college tend to restrictive someone on doing something. That is to say, teacher in the school taught us basic knowledge , the methods of learning, We decided which one to learned or how we will be. Additionally, formal education can give student more chance to learn all kinds of things and try more. For example state-run school has funding aid from government, which make the school have more resources, new lab, new library, latest books and periodical, and so on. Formal education and home education is often at odds, sometime, home education can’t provide costing instruments to student. Without these instruments may hinder someone ‘s invention.
Moverever, If the formal education in some school, is trotted with the score restraining our mind to pursuing high score.
