Most of us spend our lives seeking the natural world. We go fishing, sit in the garden, have a picnic, live in the suburbs or go to the seaside. The most popular leisure activity in Britain is going for a walk. When joggers jog, they don't run the streets. Every one of them tend to go to the park or the river. But despite this, our children are growing up nature deprived (剥夺)).1 spent my boyhood climbing trees. These days, children are robbed of these ancient freedoms, due to problems like crime, traffic, the loss of the open spaces and strange new ideas about what is best for children, that is to say, things that can be bought, rather than things that can be found. The truth is to be found elsewhere. A study in the US: families had moved to better bousing and the children were assessed(评估)for ADHD﹣attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (多动症).Those whose accommodation had more natural views showed an improvement of 19%; those who had the same improvement in material surroundings but no nice view improved just 4%.ADHD is one of the great problems of modem childhood. One study after another indicates that contact with nature gives huge benefits to ADHD children. However, we spend money on drugs rather than on green places. The life of old people is measurably better when they have access to nature. The increasing concern for the growing population of old people is in quality rather than quantity of years. And study after study finds that a garden is the single most important thing in finding that quality. Even problems with crime and aggressive behavior are reduced when there is contact with the natural world. We need the wild world. It is essential to our well﹣being, our health and our happiness.(1)According to the author, people enjoy________to seek nature.A.jogging on the streetB. shopping in the supermarketC.sitting in the gardenD. running in the gym.(2)From the second paragraph, we can see that________.A.children probably spend less time in nature nowadaysB.adults deprive the children of their rights to approach natureC.climbing trees will certainly do good to the childrenD.children tend to be happier as a result of their material satisfaction.(3)In what way do people benefit from their contact with nature?________A.Children with ADHD can be cured.B.Children's performance at school is greatly improved.C.A garden nearby improves the quality of old people's life.D.Problems with crime and violent behavior will easily be solved..(4)What is the main idea of this passage?________A.Nature treats children with ADHD.Access to nature improves our life.B.Getting close to nature reduces crime.C.Man can't live without natural areas.A.Delayed answers are lies.B.It is unfair to require all to answer slowly.C.Delayed answers can lead to misjudgment.D.Delayed response should be ignored completely.5.Genetic(基因的)testing cannot tell teachers anything useful about an individual pupil's educational achievement. That is the conclusion of a study that looked at how well so-called polygenic scores for education predict a person's educational achievements, based on a long-term study of thousands of people in the UK. "Some people with a very low genetic score are very high performers at age 16. Some are even in the top 3 percent," says Tim Morris at the University of Bristol, UK.And while Morris expects the accuracy of polygenic scores for educational achievements to improve, he doesn't think they will ever be good enough to predict how well an individual will do. Even relatively simple qualities such as height are influenced by thousands of genetic variants, each of which may only have a tiny effect. It has been claimed that polygenic scores can be used to make useful predictions, such as a person's likelihood of developing various diseases. One company is even offering embryo screening(screening of an unborn baby in the very stages of development)based on polygenic scores for disease risk. Some researchers—notably Robert Plomin of King's College London—think that schools should start using polygenic scores for educational achievement. In most cases, the scores may reflect qualities such as persistence as well as intelligence. To assess the usefulness of polygenic scores in education, Morris and his colleagues calculated them for 8,000 people in Bristol who are part of a long-term study known as the Children of the 90s. The participants' genomes have been queued and their academic results are available to researchers. Among other things, the team found a correlation of 0.4 between a person's polygenic score and their exam results at age 16. But there would need to be a correlation of at least 0.8 to make useful predictions about individuals, says Morris.Plomin, however, argues that the results support his opinion. "A correlation of 0.4 makes it the strongest polygenic predictor in the behavioural sciences," says Plomin. "It's so much stronger than a lot of other things we base decisions on. So it's a very big finding."Morris says schools already have access to other predictors that are more accurate, such as a pupil's earlier test results. Looking at parents' educational achievements is also a better predictor of a pupil's academic results than studying their genome, his results show. Providing teachers with an extra predictor based on genetics would just confuse matters, says Morris, and the cost cannot be justified.(1)In paragraph 2, Morris talks about "height" in order to tell readers that ________.A.some qualities are hardly affected by any genetic variantsB.some qualities are influenced by thousands of genetic variantsC.genetic scores are useful in predicting one's potential diseasesD.genetic scores can help children improve their scores at school(2)How did Morris prove the effect of polygenetic scores in education?A.By providing opposite examples.B.By explaining how the genome works.C.By listing findings from another scientist.D.By presenting facts and data from research.(3)According to Plomin, a correlation of 0.4 is reliable because it is ________.eful in telling you how intelligent and persistent children areeful in predicting people who might struggle academicallyC.stronger compared to other factors in behavioural sciencesD.strongly correlated to children's academic achievements(4)Morris suggested that schools should ________.A.study every pupil's genomesB.spend some money on genetic testsC.know about parents' educational achievementsD.provide teachers with students' genetic information三、书面表达(本题共计 1 小题,共计5分)6. Some take over-the- counter (非非非非) medicines such as aspirin while others try popular home remedies (非非) like herbal tea or chicken soup. Yet here is the tough truth about the common cold: nothing really cures it.So why do people sometimes believe that their remedies work? According to James Taylor, professor at the University of Washington, colds usually go away on their own in about a week, improving a little each day after symptoms peak, so it’s easy to believe it’s medicine rather than time that deserves the credit, USA Today reported. It still seems hard to believe that we can deal with more serious diseases yet are powerless against something so common as a cold. Recently, scientists came closer to figuring out why. To understand it, you first need to know how antiviral (非非非非) drugs work. They attack the virus by attaching to and changing the surface structures of the virus. To do that, the drug must fit and lock into the virus like the right piece of a jigsaw (非非), which means scientists have to identify the virus and build a 3-D model to study its surface before they can design an antiviral drug that is effective enough. The two cold viruses that scientists had long known about were rhinovirus (非非非) A and B. But they didn’t find out about the existence of a third virus, rhinovirus C, until 2006. All three of them contribute to the common cold, but drugs that work well against rhinovirus A and B have little effect when used against C.“This explains most of the previous failures of drug trials against rhinovirus,” study leader Professor Ann Palmenberg at University of Wisconsin-Madison, US, told Science Daily. Now, more than 10 years after the discovery of rhinovirus C, scientists have finally built a highly-detailed 3-D model of the virus, showing that the surface of the virus is, as expected, different from that of other cold viruses. With the model in hand, hopefully a real cure for a common cold is on its way. Soon, we may no longer have to waste our money on medicines that don’t really work.(1)What does the author think of popular remedies for a common cold?A.They are quite effective.B.They are slightly helpful.C.They still need to be improved.D.They actually have no effect.(2)How do antiviral drugs work?A.By breaking up cold viruses directly.B.By changing the surface structures of the cold viruses.C.By preventing colds from developing into serious diseases.D.By absorbing different kinds of cold viruses at the same time.(3)What can we infer from the passage?A.The surface of cold viruses looks quite similar.B.Scientists have already found a cure for the common cold.C.Scientists were not aware of the existence of rhinovirus C until recently.D.Knowing the structure of cold viruses is the key to developing an effective cure.(4)What is the best title for this passage?A.Drugs against cold virusesB.Helpful home remediesC.No current cure for common coldD.Research on cold viruses13.(6分)Wood has many great characteristics that make it the perfect building material. It is cheap, durable, easily available, and most importantly, environmentally sustainable. The one thing it is not,is transparent! Now thanks to a team of scientists at Stockholm’s KTH Royal Institute of Technology the material may even be able to add that feature to its already impressive list.Lead researcher rs Berglund said he was inspired to create the transparent wood after learning how Japanese researchers had developed a see-through paper for use in flexible display screens for electronic devices. The team began by pulling out the wood’s lignin(木质素).The lignin-free wood was then dipped into a polymer(聚合物)and baked at a temperature of 158°F for four hours. The result was a hybrid product that was not only stronger and lighter than the original wood but also, almost transparent. The researchers were able to adjust the level of transparency by varying the amount of the polymer injected and also by changing the thickness of the wood. While scientists have previously created a see-through wood for small-scale applications like computer chips, the transparent wood is the first one being considered for large scale applications. The researchers, who revealed their findings in Biomacromolecules on April 11,picture using the transparent wood in buildings to allow for more natural light,or to create windows that let in the desired amount of light withoutsacrificing privacy.Wood that allows light to pass through could lead to a brighter future for homes and buildings. Berglund also thinks the wood could play a significant role in the design of solar panels. The semitransparent material would be able to keep light longer and give it more time to interact with the conductor, thus resulting in better solar efficiency.Additionally, substituting the currently used glass with this new product would help solar energy manufacturers improve their carbon footprint and lower the cost. They are now experimenting with ways to scale up the manufacturing process so that the transparent material is cost-effective to make and easy to use.1.What does the underlined part“that feature”in Paragraph 1 refer to?A.Cheap.B.Durable.C.Sustainable.D.Transparent.2.Which of the following is true according to the text?A.Berglund got the idea of transparent wood while making paper.B.Varying the amount of the polymer changes the wood’s hardness.C.The transparent wood would be used only for homes and buildings.D.The cost of making the transparent wood still needs to be cut down.3.What is the last paragraph mainly about?A.The bright future of the transparent wood.B.The wood’s role in the design of solar panels.C.The disadvantages of the currently used glass.D.Solar energy manufacturers’ carbon footprint.三、阅读七选五(本题共计1小题,总分10分)14.(10分)When big news breaks,it's easy to get caught up in following the story online. The Internet can be a place to find useful information. 1 Helping kids understand the news and how to separate fact from fiction is an important job for parents and educators. Here’s some advice that parents can offer kids to help them be quicker to judge as they consume news online.2 In the rush to cover stories, reporters make mistakes, officials don't always have correct information and tidbits(八卦新闻)that sound reasonable often get passed around before anyone has checked them for accuracy.Use social media wisely. Some say Twitter is a great source of news in the first few minutes of a tragedy. 3 On the other hand,Facebook can be a great way to connect with friends affected by events in the news and to spread personal news within a more limited circle.Be skeptical. 4 After the Boston Marathon bombing,NBC Sports reported that some runners kept running all the way to the hospital to donate blood for the victims. Not true. There are plenty of websites devoted to exposing false news stories. The Washington Post also has a Fact Checker column that delivers claims made by public officials and politicians.Visit them to find out if a story is true.Keep it age-appropriate.Kids aren’t always ready to digest big tragic news--especially if the news is about kids, such as school shootings or abuses. The constant repetition of information can be confusing for younger kids, and at the beginning of a news event, parents might not be able to offer any correct answers. 5A.Remember,breaking news is often wrong.B.It also can be the source of misinformation.C.If something sounds too good to be true,it probably is.D.The government should take measures to prevent false news.E.However,after that it just becomes messy and largely inaccurate.F.With social media at your fingertips,it's convenient to express your opinion.G.Kids who are eager to learn more about certain events can check kid-guided news sources.四、完形填空(本题共计1小题,总分20分)15.(20分)In the summer before I entered middle school, I read the book They Cage the Animals at Night. That's because they use green pigments , which are called chlorophyll(叶绿素), to harvest energy from sunlight. But the plant Hydnora Africana, doesn't have leaves or chlorophyll at all.So, how can it survive? Well, it's a parasite(寄生), and H Africana attaches itself to other plants' roots, and begins getting sugars, minerals, and water from its host.At the same time, the parasite grows a root system, living completely underground, until it's ready to reproduce. At which point, it grows one of the strangest looking flowers in the world. When the flower's mature, it breaks the soil from beneath and reaches out in order to be pollinated(授粉).But just as this plant doesn't look like the normal flower, it doesn't smell like one either. It gives out a smell like a rotting(腐烂) animal . The smell attracts insects and flies looking for a delicious meal. But when they get inside the flower and find no tasty treat, they can't get back out again. There's a sort of room inside the flower, and the top of the room closes behind the insects. The walls of the flower are also slippery, making escape even more difficult.Over the course of about a day, the flower's male organs mature, and the insects get coated in pollen. And at the end of this transformation, the inside of the plant gets less slippery, and the chamber opens, allowing the insects and flies to escape. At that point, attracted by a new rotting smell, they might just find another H Africana flower and pollinate it as they fall inside.8、Why is chlorophyll so important to plants?A. Plants cannot survive without Chlorophyll .9、About H Africana, which description is right?A. It’s a parasite without roots.B. It gets food through other plants' root.C. He is very bright, pursuing everything he does with devotion and determination. And he is a great kid; honest, kind, faithful and caring.Like a lot of kids who are high achievers, he is a perfectionist and very easy to fall into anxiety. That is manifested in his study, and other things he does as well. For example, he loves tennis but he is often worried about losing in the game. Now he has to stop competing because the pressure he puts on himself is becoming unhealthy. He still plays, but playing socially rather than competitively means that it’s an outlet for him rather than a source of stress. He does not manage stress well. He puts so much pressure on himself to the point of worrying himself sick over just about every assessment. And he gets so negative about it, everything I say to him is met with negativity, every suggestion with a response that it won’t work, and honestly it’s depressing and tiring. To help my son, I had a patient conversation with him, and he finally followed my advice about physical exercise to ease stress. Whenever he was under a lot of pressure, I would run with him for half an bour and do some push-ups to relax the pressure. Gradually, he became less nervous in the later exams and his scores became more and more stable.Pressure from grades and perfectionism can be really hard to manage when it comes to schooling. As kids, what they need is effective communication and sincere encouragement. So I have always told and shown my son that we’re proud of him, and that pride doesn’t merely depend on top grades.4.Which of the following best explains “manifested” underlined in paragraph 2 A.Exchanged. B.Explored. C.Achieved. D.Reflected.5.Why does the author’s son keep playing tennisA.He is a high achiever. B.He’s easy to fall sick.C.He hopes to release stress. C.His son is good at some sports. D.His son is doing well at school.7.What is the author’s advice for his sonA.Taking up a new hobby. B.Hanging out with some friends.C.Doing some exercise with him. D.Talking to friends as much as possible. Some Asian children are becoming increasingly fat, a new report says. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) joint report was released on Monday. The two agencies call for better regulation of junk food and a limit on sugary drinks for children. They also call for action against malnutrition (营养不良), because a lack of food has prevented children who live in poverty growing normally and healthily-or rather, hurts their development.Dorothy Foote is a UNICEF regional nutritional specialist. She says the lack of food affects children’s height and development inside their bodies. But at the same time, the area is facing high levels of overweight children. The main reason for the food problems, the report says, is that there is more junkfood available, which does not provide nutrition. Another problem is drinks with high sugar or high trans-fat, but low nutritional value. Lack of physical activity is also part of the problem, the report adds.Foote says this is seen in nutrition across the area. She says people lack knowledge about what is needed and normal for healthy children’s development. The economic growth in the area has brought unhealthy products to rural areas. Poor and middle-class families buy them and do not make the right choices to use healthier foods instead. Poor feeding practices, especially for children younger than two, mean ongoing high levels of malnutrition. The report says governments need to regulate the marketing of junk food and sugary drinks to children. It also calls for better feeding practices for infants and young children, and treatment for severely malnourished children. And it says the countries should work to reduce poverty and make sure that children stay in school.8.What does the report focus onA.The economic growth in Asia.B.Asian countries’ development.C.The education in Asian rural areas.D.Some Asian children’s health problems.9.What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph5 refer toA.The right choices. B.The high levels.C.The unhealthy products. D.The healthier foods.10.What does the last paragraph mainly talk aboutA.The children’s situations. B.The report’s suggestions.C.The governments’ efforts. D.The problem’s causes.11.Which of the following is the best title for the textA.The reasons for children’s being hungryB.How to stop children from being overweightC.Why children in Asia become overweightD.Asian children face malnutrition or fatnessThe essence (本质) of fast fashion is to make clothes inexpensively and quickly, to get new trends and styles into stores and online as soon as possible, and it comes at a high social and environmental cost. Keeping production costs low means they can make their clothes cheap, using cheap labour in unsafe working conditions, and in countries with bad environmental regulations.Throw-away culture is deeply rooted in our society; three in five of our clothing pieces are thrown out within a year. Fast fashion brands keep the consumers hungry and feeling like they need more by attracting them with newness and convincing the consumers that they need what they’re selling. This only results in increasing textile waste as people no longer want but throw it away.Criticisms of the fast fashion industry include its negative environmental impact: water pollution, the use of toxic (有毒的) chemicals and increasing levels of textile waste. Textile dyeing is the second largest polluter of clean water globally, after agriculture. Fast fashion companies rely on their products being made cheaply and quickly, so they avoid talking when it comes to being aware of their impact on theenvironment. Greenpeace’s recent Detox Campaign showed that many brands use toxic and dangerous chemicals in their supply chains, and many of the chemicals are either banned or strictly controlled in lots of countries. In conclusion, the fast fashion industry has a bad effect on our environment through fast fashion brands’ ecological practices and only continues to make the problem last for a long time in the future through extreme consumerist culture. In order for change to happen, the common people need to open their eyes and take measures to prevent the fast fashion from growing.12.What’s one of the characteristics of fast fashionA.Causing a lot of anxiety. B.Making people buy old clothes.C.Selling most clothes through stores. D.Producing clothes quickly.13.Why are fast fashion clothes cheapA.They are mainly sold online. B.They are made in unsafe countries.C.They are made by cheap labour. D.They save the cost of advertising.14.How does the society think of throwing away clothes according to the author A.Natural. B.Surprising. C.Absurd. D.Puzzling.15.What’s the way to change fast fashion mentioned in the textA.Changing fast fashion brands’ working conditions.B.Changing clothes stores’ sales model.C.Introducing stricter laws for factories.D.Raising public awareness of preventing fast fashion.二、七选五Strategies for Getting Kids off ScreensIt’s time to keep kids off the screens! Until recently, few people took the saying seriously. Now however, doctors have begun to look into laughter and the effects it has on the human body. They have found that laughter can really improve people's health.Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body. People watched funny films while doctors checked their hearts, blood pressure, breathing and muscles. It was found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercise. It increases blood pressure, makes the heart beat quicker and makes people breathe deeper; it also works on several groups of muscles in the face, the stomach, and even the feet. If laughter exercises the body, it must be beneficial.Other tests have shown that laughter appears to be able to reduce the effects of pain on the body. In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programs. The group that tolerated(忍耐)the pain for the longest time was the group which listened to a funny program. The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to be that it helps to produce a kind of chemical in the brain which diminishes both stress and pain.As a result of these discoveries, some doctors in the United States now hold laughter clinics, in which they help to improve their patients' condition by encouraging them to laugh. They have found that even if their patients do not really feel like laughing, making them smile is enough to produce beneficial effects similar to those caused by laughter. 4.According to the passage, which of the following statements is WRONG?A.Laughter is good for healthB.Laughter can make you become old quicklyC.Laughter helps to reduce pain.D.Laughter, just like physical exercise, is good for our body.5.The underlined word "diminishes" in the third paragraph means "____".A.delays B.prevents C.increases D.reduces6.Why do some doctors hold laughter clinics?A.Because they want to earn more money.B.Because they think they will help the patients recover from illnesses.C.Because they want to improve their patients' condition.D.Because they want their patients to practice how to laugh7.What would be the best title for this passage?A.Both laughter and physical exercise are good for healthB.Laughter clinics help patients improve their conditionC.Laughter can reduce the effects of painD.Laughter is the best medicine.阅读理解Popcorn Park Zoo is not like most zoos. But before we visited them, we went sightseeing along the Great Ocean Road, on the Australian coast.Dad had planned to drive, but even though he was used to driving miles without getting exhausted, he then read on the website that the road wouldn't be an easy drive. Anyway, we thought he deserved to enjoy the fantastic views too, which he couldn't do as our driver. So instead, we booked discount bus tickets and off we went. Our first stop was where wild kangaroo lived — and Dad and I were taking a walk when a big one appeared! For a moment, it seemed to consider coming towards us, which made me a little nervous — but then it went off along the road and into the bushes. That wasn't the only wildlife we saw. I thought it unlikely we'd see famous Koala bears during our short visit. In fact, at our next stop, we saw roughly six million in that area! Sadly, some gum trees they were in had very few leaves left, which people told us was because of the Koalas, although I'd read that lack of water is indeed the problem.Dad had booked a campsite for the night, with ready-made tents — for an adventure! I wasn't sure about that, but they were really luxury tents, within walking distance of some famous rocks and other places we hoped to visit. However, Dad also said the sounds of wild creatures would help us sleep. That sounded worrying — until the "wild creatures" turned out to be frogs! So I was embarrassed by my fears and kept awake by the frogs! But we had fun making meals together. In fact, this whole trip was fantastic!4.How did the author's family choose to travel at last?A.By car.B.By bike.C.By boat.D.By bus.5.How did the author feel when he saw the kangaroo at first?A.A little excited.B.A little proud.C.A little afraid.D.A little upset.6.When the author was sleeping at night, he .A.heard the sound of frogsB.was a little coldC.dreamed of some famous placesD.was scared by a dangerous wild animal7.Which of the following words might the author use to describe his trip?A.Long.B.Wonderful.C.Cheap.D.Boring.阅读理解Dancing to loud music in open spaces has been a popular way for many middle-aged and elderly Chinese people to relax and exercise. Now some state and local governments have passed laws that require citizens to recycle their food waste as well. California and Vermont have statewide laws about recycling food waste that apply to businesses and homes. The process of recycling food waste and turning it into usable soil is called composting (堆制肥料).Food waste that can be composted includes fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, tea bags, and eggshells. Garden waste such as stems and leaves can also be composted. Meat, fish, and dairy food waste cannot be recycled.According to environmental groups, composting reduces the amount of trash going into landfills (垃圾填埋池), and composted waste holds a wide range of nutrients. When compost is added to the soil in gardens and fields, it helps crops grow.Reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfills is one reason why cities and states are passing food-waste recycling laws. "Our landfills are far from enough for the creation of new ones is shrinking." Renee Crowley, a project manager said.Officials in Seattle, Washington, say that food waste makes up 30% of the trash going into landfills, and they are looking to reduce that percentage. That city has a law requiring people to recycle food waste. It is banned from all garbage. There is a fine for people who put it into regular garbage.Crowley points out that even in cities where food recycling is not a law, there are often places where citizens can drop off their food waste for composting. Many schools and colleges have also started composting programs. Those who are against food-recycling laws say that the composting process is costly. In addition, it can be difficult for people who live in apartments to store their waste because they don't have access to outside storage bins. Patti Ferguson from Orange County, California, told her local newspaper that she thought an indoor container containing food waste would get smelly.12.What do we know about composting from the text?A.It is cheap to compost food waste.B.Not all food waste can be reused.C.Not all soil can be composted.D.It is usually processed in empty landfills.13.What is the third paragraph mainly about?A.Ways of keeping nutrients in the soil.B.Ways of reducing the amount of trash.C.Benefits of recycling food waste.D.Examples of different useful nutrients.14.In Seattle throwing food waste into garbage is____.A.illegal B.shameful C.required D.acceptable15.Patti Ferguson's attitude towards food-recycling laws is probably____.A.thankful B.supportive C.uncaring D.negative二、第一部分阅读理解,第二节任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

The rise of a young opera singer.B. The impact of social media on music talent.C. The history of “Got Talent” shows.D. The challenges faced by young performers.CFor adults who have struggled with understanding new math homework or surprised at how quickly kids can learn a second language, there is new evidence that shows kids can really learn things much faster than adults.A study published in Current Biology finds that children and adults have different concentrations of a key brain messenger called gamma-aminobutyric acid, or GABA. This messenger slows down the brain by blocking specific signals in the body’s central nervous system. It also produces a calming effect and is thought to play amajor role in controlling the overactivity of nerve cells associated with anxiety, stress and fear. All these contribute to the learning of new things. In the study, the researchers from Brown University usedneuro-imaging techniques to examine visual perceptive ( 视觉感知的) learning in elementary school-aged children and adults. Participants were shown a number of different images and were later asked questions about them following the test.Visual learning caused an increase of GABA in children’s visual cortex( 皮层), the area of the brain that processes visual information. However, GABA levels didn’t change in th e adults who took the same visual tests. In addition, children participants kept that GABA increase for hours after training ended, while the concentrations of GABA remained the same in the adults studied. “In subsequent behavioral experiments, we found th at children indeed learn more items within a given period of time than adults.” said Sebastian M. Frank, the co-author of the study. “Our results therefore point to GABA as a key player in making learning more efficient in children.”These results, the authors argue, should encourage teachers and parents to keep giving children opportunities to learn anything from riding a bike to playing an instrument throughout theirchildhood. The findings may also change neuro-scientists ’ conception of brain maturity i n children. “Although children’s brains are not yet fully mature and many of their behavioral and cognitive functions are not as efficient as in adults, children are not, in general, surpassed in their learning abilities by adults,” said study co-author Takeo Watanabe.28. What’s the function of GABAA. Send specific messages to the brain.B. Deal with complex math problems.C. Make the nervous system more active.D. Increase efficiency in learning new things.29. What do we know about the children taking the visual test A. Their GABA concentrations kept increasing after training. B. Their learning abilities still needed to be improved.C. They could remember more images than adults.D. They were surpassed by adults in learning abilities.30. How did the researchers do the researchA. By comparing participants ’ reaction.B. By analyzing statistics.C. By collecting relative evidence.D. By conducting online survey.31. What does Takeo Watanabe want to say in the last paragraphA. Neuro-scientists don’t fully understand brain maturity in children.B. Children are not mature in their behavior and cognition.C. It takes a long time for children’s brains to be fully mature.D. Children’s brain maturity does not affect their learning abilities. DArtificial intelligence(AI) models have long surpassed just creating text responses and images. Now, with only one sentence, Open AI’s latest text-to-video model, Sora, can turn your words into video with good visual quality while faithfully following your content instructions.Sora is said to be superior to many other existing models with similar functions. The AI model can create videos at suitable aspect ratios ( 屏幕高宽比) for different devices. It also lets users quickly test out content in lower quality before making the high-quality version, which helps speed up output according to the user’s requests.Aside from this, its ability to present videos in a realistic and smooth manner is astonishing. Sora can create detailed scenes with several characters, specific types of motion, and accurate subject and background details. Beyond the user’s requests, it also understands how these elements exist in the real world. For example, reflections in the water change as a woman walks by. Sora’s amazing performance wouldn’t be possibl e without itshelpful assistant, ChatGPT, which transforms simple sentences into detailed descriptions, improving the accuracy of output. However, the current model isn’t perfect. It may have trouble accurately showing how things move in a complicated scene and might not get how one action leads to another. For example, if someone eats part of a cookie in a Sora-made video, the cookie might not look like it’s been bitten into. The model might mix up directions and find it hard to describe events in the right order. One possible reason is that Sora learns each basic unit of a video, known as a spacetime patch (时空补丁), independently.Sora is still in the testing stage of development. OpenAI is now inviting network security professionals to make random attacks on Sora’s system, aiming to test the model’s possible weaknesses and risks. Sora has also been open to some visual artists, designers and filmmakers. Their feedback will assist OpenAI in enhancing the model to better serve creative professionals.32. What is the main focus of paragraph 2 and 3A. Sora’s development.B. Sora’s diversity.C. Sora’s capabilities.D. Sora’s popularity.33. Why does the author provide the example in paragraph 5A. To highlight Sora’s potential safety risks.B. To illustrate Sora’s existing limitations.C. To showcase Sora’s perfect performance.D. To explain the concept of a spacetime patch.34. What can we know about Sora up to nowA. It has been made available to various industries.B. Its commercial release has been called off.C. It has exposed alarming security issues.D. It is undergoing testing and improvement.35. What’s the best title for the textA. Sora: Lead the way in creating videos.B. Sora: Surpass existing ChatGPT.C. Sora:Generate a rich variety of videos.D. Sora:A perfecttext-to-video AI model.第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分12.5 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
