which is almost unheard of in the West, and which is becoming increasingly ignored by the youth of the East—the ancient custom of “tonic food”.Tonic food is food which is consumed to improve one’s well-being or avoid sickness. For instance, it was once the custom for new mothers to eat a sesame oil(麻油)hot pot every day for the first month after giving birth. It was believed that this dish would benefit the muscles, reduce pain, improve circulation, stimulate sweating, and warm the body. Some foods, such as mutton and spinach(菠菜),are seen as“hot”, while others, such as Chinese cabbage and radish(樱桃萝卜),are seen as“cold”.One should be careful not to eat too much of either“hot”or“cold”food. However, how much“hot”or“cold”food one should eat depends on the time of the year, how the food is prepared and what it is prepared with, and the individual’s health. The custom of tonic food for a healthier life also influences the catering industry.Chinese herbal medicines, such as wolfberry(枸杞),can be found on many restaurant menus, either added to fruit tea or as a beneficial addition to a dish. These herbs attract customers, such as over-worked office staff,in need of a modest pick-me-up.So,whether you need to boost your strength with a large helping of chicken soup,or increase your mental powers with a serving of pig’s brain soup, you may find that this ancient Chinese custom could be just the tonic you are looking for.4.What is the present situation of tonic food?A.It is catching less attention.B.It is enjoyed by many young people.C.It is well-known worldwide.D.It is becoming increasingly popular.5.What is believed to benefit new mothers?A.Chinese cabbage.B.Fruit tea.C.Sesame oil hot pot.D.Pig’s brain soup.6.What does the underlined word“catering”mean in paragraph3?A.Medicine.B.Restaurant.cation.D.Fashion.7.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.The Charm of Chinese CuisineB.The Popularity of Tonic FoodC.An Introduction to Chinese Tonic key when people feel lonely. The researchers interviewed32people aged59to83.Pets included dogs, cats, birds, etc.More than 90%of the people spoke about touch in the relationship with their pets.“Participants often described touch-based interactions with their pets as being comforting or relaxing in a way that contributed to their overall well-being,”the researchers say.“For our participants, comfort is the sense of being somehow cared for by another being.”Many people in the study spoke about how their pets just seemed to“know”when they weren’t feeling well and they’d move to get physically near them.Different pets were better at providing comfort, some participants insisted. Many said cats were more relaxing than dogs, while others said dogs could be relaxing as long as they were“the right kind of dog”.But almost all pets provided some sort of comfort to their owners when it came to touch.Janette Young, lecturer in health sciences at the University of South Australia, and her team uncovered an interesting thing about the pet-human relationship.People in the study often spoke about how their animals demanded to be petted or seemed to take joy in the interaction. This,in turn, made the humans feel good. The researchers suggest that pets can be“helpful in reducing touch deprivation(匮乏)”and the benefits can come from all kinds of pets. This connection can be particularly important in health care and senior care settings where patients and workers are less likely to be able to see friends and family;yet touch is important and can improve health and happiness.Pets can also offer benefits that in some cases people can’t offer.“Relationships with pets are different to those with humans,”Young says.“Animals don’t judge and are always with us.”8.About what did some participants hold different opinions?A.What pets were better at providing comfort.B.Whether pets could make them feel relaxed.C.How they felt when their pets touched them.D.When pets could notice their owners’discomfort.9.What did Janette Young find about the pet-human relationship?A.It is full of judgments.B.It turns out temporary.C.It benefits both parties.D.It is determined by pets.10.What may researchers suggest hospitals do?A.Encourage pet connection programmes.B.Raise pets to reduce human touch.C.Select the best pet companions.D.Order workers’friends to pay visits.11.What is the main idea of the text?A.Humans need spiritual support.B.Pet-human interactions are common.C.Lonely people like living with pets.D.Pets offer humans touch-based comfort.D(2021·山东日照一模)Looking for a place to take a rest, sip a cup of coffee and have a furry companion?Welcome to animal-themed cafes. In recent years, the combination of pets and catering has become incredibly popular in many cities throughout China. While many cafes started out offering the company of cats and dogs, others are expanding their range. Some cafes include animals like squirrels, raccoons(浣熊)and even capybaras(水豚).Many Internet users have commented that their main reason for visiting these businesses is to interact closely with animals they have only seen from afar.“The customers love animals. They are curious about these pets and want to raise one at home but circumstances don’t allow it,”said pet cafe owner Tian Rui.Liu Jing,a Beijing resident who works in finance, loves pigs, but her parents would not endorse her getting one as a pet.The24-year-old had to admire the animals through videos and images. But now,she can have close contact with an adorable pig every weekend in a pet cafe. Also, these pet cafes serve as a shelter for those who find comfort in being around animals.“In this place, you can get close to the cute little ones in a very comfortable way without having to worry about safety and hygiene(卫生)—overall,it is an extremely comfortable experience,”said Zhao Ming from Tianjin,a frequent pet cafe visitor.Animal lovers also expect the pet cafes to change people’s attitudes towards pets.Animals like ducks, pigs and sheep have been served as food for many years.People hardly see them as pets. But the pet cafes help shift their attitude from seeing them as playthings to regarding them as family members or close friends.“Whether at home or in stores, these little animals are there for companionship and they bring warmth to our hearts. They care and understand just like family members. They give us much more than the love we give to them,”Zhao said.12.Why do people visit pet cafes?A.To pursue inner peace.B.To appreciate animal images.C.To experience a clean environment.D.To have close contact with animals.13.What does the underlined word“endorse”in paragraph4mean?A.Believe in.B.Approve of.C.Prevent.D.Suspect.14.We can conclude from paragraph6that pet cafes may.A.change our views of animalsB.teach us how to look after pets betterC.show us the importance of having petsD.remind us to value our family and friends15.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A.Cafes Enjoy Great PopularityB.Ideal Shelters for Lovely AnimalsC.Animals Turn into CompanionsD.Animal Lovers from Different started.16Researchers found that3milligrams(毫克)of caffeine per kilogram of body weight can raise the rate of fat burning during aerobic(有氧的)exercise.17The coffee dose was shown to increase maximal fat oxidation rate(脂肪氧化率)by an average of10.7percent in the morning and29percent in the afternoon. The recommendation to exercise on an empty stomach in the morning to increase fat oxidation is common.18It is still unknown whether this increase is due to exercising in the morning or due to going without food for a longer period of time.19Caffeine is often associated with improved athletic performance, though the science behind this link isn’t as comprehensive as it could be.In later cycling tests after the caffeine had been given,thefat-burning capability of the body was measured, showing the impact that caffeine had made on MFO. Maximum oxygen uptake was also raised,as was the intensity(强度)of exercise. The results of the study showed that acute caffeine intake30minutes before performing an aerobic exercise test increased MFO during exercise regardless of the time of day.20Overall,these results suggest that a combination of acute caffeine intake and exercise at moderate intensity in the afternoon provides the best solution for individuals seeking to increase whole-body fat oxidation during aerobic exercise.A.It is based on the results gathered from15male volunteers.B.However,this recommendation may lack a scientific basis.C.Evidence is mounting that morning exercise is good for your health.D.A new study suggests it can make a significant difference to fat burning.E.They are clear enough to suggest that there is some kind of association there.F.Researchers have found that if cyclists take more caffeine, they will ride much faster.G.Researchers were keen to look in detail at the relationship between caffeine and exercise.50分阅读限时满分练(五)【语篇导读】本文是一篇应用文。

Society may pressure you into grabbing(抓住)whatever you can get. If you do not have a set path that must be taken, then you have the opportunity to choose something you will not only be paid for doing, but enjoy. One of the best ways of finding a suitable career is to determine your personality type. It may seem obvious that the creative type does not really find much pleasure in a job as a butcher(屠夫)or dry cleaning assistant, and that weak character may not find happiness in a career based on teaching or leading a team.To find the best job for your personality type, the first step is to know what and who you really are. If you already know your style, you can search for suitable employment; however, if you are uncertain, there are ways that will help you discover who and what you are. For example, an employment centre, a career adviser or an online quiz can help you.Taking my own situation for example, am definitely(明确地)a creative type. Besides, I prefer to be my own boss or, if I cannot, at least I want to rely on a boss I truly both respect and admire. I do not like telling people what to do, or being told what to do. I do not relate well to regular 9-5 hours. I do not feel satisfied being paid a high wage for a bad job. I feel much happier at home. Combining my creativity, independence, and desire to stay at home, my ideal(理想的)career would be running home-operated business involving(涉及)creativity. I actually happen to have chosen this solution; I am a writer, poet, author and publisher. I have suited my career to my personality type.(1)The first paragraph is used as a(n)________.A.exampleB.introductionC.conclusionD.contrast(2)The author thinks in order to find the right job we should first know about ________.A.something about employment centreB.online job marketsC.our personality typesD.the economic situation(3)Which of the following statements about the author is TRUE?A.He prefers to rely on his colleagues.B.He dislikes home-operated businesses.C.He likes giving orders to others and doesn't like facing orders.D.He doesn't like the usual way of doing things.(4)What is the main idea of the passage?A.Creativity and chances of success.B.Jobs and your peace of mind.C.Following the set path and making life easier.D.Finding the right job for your personality type.3.Parents play an important role in determining the educational success of their children. Their expectations for how well their children do at school and the environment at home are important determinants of achievement. Family influence is great in helping a child to realize academic accomplishment.Children who live in homes in which the parents are academically successful, once they become parents, often feel that their job is to prepare their children to do likewise in school. They take their kids on vacation, but they spend time learning about local history at museums. They also may ensure that their kids have time to study and understand the importance of school attendance. School is a priority for these families, and children who live in them grow up with a focus on learning.Parents who have high academic expectations and those who adopt a more authoritarian parenting style for their children often have children who do well in school. However, it can be dangerous to set expectations too high, such that a child feels overly pressured to perform. These types of expectations should be balanced with those that relate directly to the child, so that they will be able to personally set and reach goals, work hard and to enjoy being curious.Parents who support their children in their academic work also positively influence their performance. This takes different forms for families. Some parents might help with homework, or volunteer at school. Others provide a quiet study space, a consistent bedtime or a positive example of hard work and discipline. How parents show support for their child's academic career varies by family and by culture. No matter how itis shown, it is a vital part of a child's academic success to know their parents are behind their efforts.A love of reading in a household can also positively affect a child's academic attainment. Learning new vocabulary, and how to predict, understand and respond to a text are just some of the skills children can learn at home that are important in an academic environment. Reading books, newspapers, magazines and websites with children on a regular basis sets them up for success at school.(1)According to the text, parents have an important effect on children's ______.A.family lifeB.academic achievementC.next generationD.expectations of their jobs(2)What may a family with academically successful parents put first?A.Family travel.B.Historic knowledge.C.Attending school.D.Going to museums.(3)How may academically successful parents influence their children's academic achievement?A.They ask their children to solve problems alone.B.They may ask teachers to their houses to teach.C.They put great pressure on their children.D.They can offer help to their children in different ways.(4)What could be the best title for the text?A.Family influence on children's academic achievementB.Benefits of academically successful parentsC.What parents can do to help their childrenD.How to improve the relation in a family4. DIn recent years, veganism(素食主义)has become one of the fastest-growing lifestyle trends in the world. According to HuffPost, more than 3 million people in the United States are vegans. In the UK, about 542,000 people have chosen veganism over the past decade. What is driving this growth in veganism? One reason may be that people want to protect the environment. Producing meat and dairy products is known to be stressful for the environment. According to a 2013 study by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, global meat manufacturing causes about 18 percent of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. This figure is higher than all the world's cars, trains and planes combined. According to BBC News, another reason is that many of today's young people believe it's wrong to kill animals for food. Jess Murray, 22, a student at University College London, said she chose to become vegan when she realized that eating animals is a choice people make, rather than something we must do to survive."Becoming vegan was an ethical(伦理的)decision, " she told the Guardian. For many people, veganism simply means eating no meat, cheese or eggs, but going animal-free also applies to fashion and manufacturing. For example, leather is used to make shoes and clothing. Every year more than a billion animals, from cows to horses to snakes, are killed to make leather products from their skins. Now, many brands are looking for other materials. The sports brand Puma, for example, has made shoes out of pineapple leaves. Tesla, the US car maker, is said to be removing animal-based leather from its seats. Earlier this year, US singer Lady Gaga created the vegan makeup brand Haus Laboratories. On the brand's Instagram account, it says: “ Cruelty-free and vegan, because we love animals and you. " So, if you're interested in protecting animals and saving the environment, you might want to give veganism a try.(1)Which can be the reason for people being vegetarians according to the text?A.They want to survive on earth.B.They pursue fashion in the world.C.They try to adopt a green lifestyle.D.They worry about their own health.(2)What can you infer from the last paragraph?A.Going animal-free means letting go of the animals.B.Veganism simply means boycotting goods from animal skins.dy Gaga created her makeup brand out of pineapple leaves.D.Many brands are seeking substitutes for animal-based leather.(3)What's the author's attitude to veganism?A.Supportive.B.Ambiguous.C.Skeptical.D.Prejudiced.(4)From which part of a newspaper is the text probably taken?A.Science.B.Fashion.C.Entertainment.D.Life.5. Most of us spend our lives seeking the natural world. We go fishing, sit in the garden, have a picnic, live in the suburbs or go to the seaside. The most popular leisure activity in Britain is going for a walk. When joggers jog, they don't run the streets. Every one of them tend to go to the park or the river. But despite this, our children are growing up nature deprived (剥夺)).1 spent my boyhood climbing trees. These days, children are robbed of these ancient freedoms, due to problems like crime, traffic, the loss of the open spaces and strange new ideas about what is best for children, that is to say, things that can be bought, rather than things that can be found. The truth is to be found elsewhere. A study in the US: families had moved to better bousing and the children were assessed(评估)for ADHD﹣attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (多动症).Those whose accommodation had more natural views showed an improvement of 19%; those who had the same improvement in material surroundings but no nice view improved just 4%.ADHD is one of the great problems of modem childhood. One study after another indicates that contact with nature gives huge benefits to ADHD children. However, we spend money on drugs rather than on green places. The life of old people is measurably better when they have access to nature. The increasing concern for the growing population of old people is in quality rather than quantity of years. And study after study finds that a garden is the single most important thing in finding that quality. Even problems with crime and aggressive behavior are reduced when there is contact with the natural world. We need the wild world. It is essential to our well﹣being, our health and our happiness.(1)According to the author, people enjoy________to seek nature.A.jogging on the streetB. shopping in the supermarketC.sitting in the gardenD. running in the gym.(2)From the second paragraph, we can see that________.A.children probably spend less time in nature nowadaysB.adults deprive the children of their rights to approach natureC.climbing trees will certainly do good to the childrenD.children tend to be happier as a result of their material satisfaction.(3)In what way do people benefit from their contact with nature?________A.Children with ADHD can be cured.B.Children's performance at school is greatly improved.C.A garden nearby improves the quality of old people's life.D.Problems with crime and violent behavior will easily be solved..(4)What is the main idea of this passage?________A.Nature treats children with ADHD.Access to nature improves our life.B.Getting close to nature reduces crime.C.Man can't live without natural areas.6.DOver 400 human footprints preserved in volcanic sediment(沉淀物)provide a sign at social lifeamong ancient hunter-gatherers. The impressions, found in northern Tanzania, add up to Africa's largest collection of ancient human footprints, say evolutionary biologist Kevin Hatala of Chatham University in Pittsburgh and colleagues. People walked across a muddy layer of volcanic ashes dating to between 19,100 and 5,760 years ago, the researchers reported on May 14 in Scientific Reports. Dating of a thin rock layer that partly overlaps(重叠)the sediment narrows the footprints' age to about 12,000 to 10,000 years ago.Hatala's team analyzed footprint sizes, distances between prints and which way prints pointed. One collection of tracks was made by 17 people walking southwest. Comparisons with modern prints suggest that this group consisted of fourteen women, two men and one young boy.The women may have been searching for foods while a few males visited or accompanied them, the researchers infer. Some present-day hunter-gatherers form largely female food-gathering groups. The study is "a nice piece of work", although it's hard to specify what people were doing, says geologist Matthew Bennett of Bournemouth University in Poole, England. Many more sets of footprint tracks would be needed to argue convincingly that hunter-gatherers at that time had female food-gathering groups, Bennett says. And it would still be unknown if the women were gathering plants or hunting prey. Other footprint sites present especially promising opportunities for studying ancient behavior, he says. He is involved in work in New Mexico that has uncovered tens of thousands of footprints of humans and other creatures from more than 10,000 years ago. Early results suggest that humans there hunted giant sloths(树獭). Bennett expects those prints will yield more insights into Stone Age hunting.(1)What does the underlined word"impressions" in the first paragraph mean?A.Thoughts about people or things.B.Collections of volcanic ashes.C.Marks left by creatures or something.D.Behaviors of imitating someone.(2)What do the newly-discovered footprints suggest?A.Ancient hunters were socially organized.B.Ancient male hunters were admired by females.C.Female food-gathering groups were obviously formed.D.Males played a more important role in finding food than females.(3)What can we learn according to the last paragraph?A.The females gathered plants or hunted prey in the Stone Age.B.The footprint tracks have proved female food-gathering groups existed.C.The footprint sites provide a good chance to further study ancient behavior.D.The footprints will hardly influence our understanding of Stone Age hunting.(4)What's the best title of the text?A.How Ancient Hunters Gathered FoodB.What Ancient Hunan Footprints Were LikeC.What Ancient Human Footprints Tell UsD.How Ancient Food-Gathering Groups Cooperated7.The baby monkey is much more developed at birth than the human baby. Almost from the moment it is born, the baby monkey can move around and hold tightly to its mother. During the first few days of its life the baby will approach and hold onto almost any large, warm, and soft object in its environment, particularly if that object also gives it milk. After a week or so, however, the baby monkey begins to avoid newcomers and focuses its attentions on "mother"—the real mother or the mother-substitute(母亲替代物).During the first two weeks of its life warmth is perhaps the most important psychological(心理的)thing that a monkey mother has to give to its baby. The Harlows, a couple who are both psychologists, discovered this fact by offering baby monkeys a choice of two types of mother-substitutes—one covered with cloth and one made of bare wire. If the two artificial mothers were both the same temperature, the little monkeys always preferred the cloth mother. However, if the wire model was heated, while the cloth model was cool, for the first two weeks after birth the baby monkeys picked the warm wire mother-substitutes as their favorites. There after they switched and spent most of their time on the more comfortable cloth mother. Why is cloth preferable to bare wire? Something that the Harlows called contact(接触的)comfort seems to be the answer, and a most powerful influence it is. Baby monkeys spend much of their time rubbing against their mothers' skins, putting themselves in as close contact with the parent as they can. Whenever the young animal is frightened, disturbed, or annoyed, it typically rushes to its mother and rubs itself against her body. Wire doesn't "rub" as well as does soft wire cloth. Prolonged(长时间的)"contact comfort" with a cloth mother appears to give the babies confidence and is much more rewarding to them than is either warmth or milk.According to the Harlows, the basic quality of a baby's love for its mother is trust. If the baby is put into an unfamiliar playroom without its mother, the baby ignores the toys no matter how interesting they might be. It screams in terror and curls up into a fury little ball. If its cloth mother is now introduced into the playroom, the bay rushes to it and holds onto it for dear life. After a few minutes of contact comfort, it obviously begins to feel more secure. It then climbs down from the mother-substitute and begins to explore the toys, but often rushes back for a deep embrace(拥抱)as if to make sure that its mother is still there and that all is well. Bit by bit its fears of the new environment are gone and it spends more and more time playing with the toys and less and less time holding on to its "mother."(1)Psychologically, what does the baby monkey desire most during the first two weeks of its life?A.Warmth.k.C.Contact.D.Trust.(2)After the first two weeks of their life, baby monkeys prefer the cloth mother to the wire mothebecause the former is ________.rger in sizeB.closer to themC.less frightening and less disturbingD.more comfortable to rub against(3)What does the baby monkey probably gain from prolonged "contact comfort"?A.attentionB.softnessC.confidenceD.interest(4)It can be inferred that when the baby monkey feels secure, ________.A.it frequently rushes back for a deep embrace when exploring the toysB.it spends more time screaming to get rewardsC.it is less attracted to the toys though they are interestingD.it cares less about whether its mother is still aroundA.Reducing the grecnhouse eflect.B.Increasing farmers' incomes.C.Improving soil fertility.D.Producing charcoal.(3)What is the third paragraph mainly about?A.The process of making terra preta.B.The disadvantage of the greenhouse effect.C.The importance of fighting the greenhouse effect.D.The benefit of using charcoal to make terra preta.(4)What can we infer about terra preta?A.It is difficult to make.B.It can trap heat from the sun.C.It could be of greater use in the future.D.It has been widely used around the world.1. You' ll also want to check out Amsterdam's Museum Quarter in the South District, which is great for shopping at the albert Cuyp Market and having a picnic in the Vondelpark. TransportationTravellers should be aware that Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is one of the busiest airports in the world, located about 9 kilometres southwest of the city centre. As we initially considered it, it seemed crazy. Would we even make it a week without going mad? Living room, kitchen, office, dining room, all in one small four-walled space. There were a number of other potential options. We could move out into the suburbs like most people do in our extraordinarily expensive city and have a small yard maybe even a basement. But there was something about this neat "tiny" home that aroused our interest, which challenged us. We like to live differently from the crowd, to avoid what everyone else is doing "just because" everyone else is."Let's try it for six months. If it makes us crazy, we'll move. We can do anything for 6 months," my husband said. It was challenging squeezing into the space at first, but then something caught us by surprise. We started having a ton of fun with our tiny space. In the past, sometimes we had quite different ideas about which art or decorating style we found appealing. But here, in this tiny space, we found ourselves having a ton of fun exploring possible options. There's no room for clutter(凌乱的东西), either. This is a gift! It's been 8 months, and we're staying. Perhaps forever. When a space is this small, you don't need to spend much in furnishing it, and you can't keep endlessly buying things. There's nowhere to put them! This leaves us more financial resources and more time to go out into the much bigger world and enjoy life. For us, living in a "tiny" home has filled us with a feeling of abundance. It's so much better than feeling weighed down, paying for a big space and more and more things. I highly recommend it.(1)What can we learn from the words of the author's husband?A.He didn't like to stay in the small space.B.He made up his mind to stay in the small space.C.He was uncertain about living in the small space.D.He encouraged the author to live in the small space.(2)What do we know about the author's experience from the text?A.It was depressing but inspiring.B.It was challenging but interesting.C.It was disappointing but touching.D.It was embarrassing but rewarding.(3)What's the main advantage of living in the small room to the author?A.She could enjoy life more.B.She could avoid the crowds.C.She could clean the room easily.D.She could enjoy a feeling of freedom.(4)What is the best title for the text?A.A new trend of livingB.The joy of living "tiny"C.Save space, save moneyD.Make good use of space5.At 9 am on a Wednesday, Gaby Rountree waves goodbye to Mila as she is picked up to go to day carein Mexico City. "It has made her so independent, so friendly and so lovely with others," Ms Rountree says joyfully. She shuts the front door and turns to homeschooling her two children. For Mila is not a child, but the family dog.Schools and nurseries have been shut in Mexico for a year owing to the pandemic. But doggy day care is booming. Doggy carers offer claw-trims and let beloved pets play outdoors. "Many clients now have a home office or are worried about their dogs becoming too attached to them," explains Montserrat, an owner of a dog day-care centre, as she strokes a tiny dog on her lap. The facility, in the rich neighbourhood, also has a camp where dogs can spend a relaxing weekend in the countryside.Mexico's rising passion for dogs has coincided(同时发生)with falling human fertility. In the mid-1980s, a Mexican woman could expect to have four children; now, only two. In the long run, as people have grown richer and the returns to education have risen, families have shrunk. For some, a dog is a lovable substitute. The most devoted owners buy clothes and throw birthday parties for their dogs. Many restaurants welcome dogs and provide drinking water. Some restaurants even offer a full doggy menu. Parks have "doggy areas". Pet beauty salons provide not only baths and trims but massages and acupuncture, too.Mexico's spoilt pets are probably enjoying the pandemic more than its locked-down kids. By one estimate, nearly two-thirds of the children have missed a year of school because of coronavirus. For mothers such as Ms Rountree, doggy day care offers some relief from covid-induced hard boring work. But she will not stop worrying until her children, too, are let off the chain and back into the classroom.(1)What can be inferred from the first paragraph?a is highly thought of by Ms Rountree.B.Ms Rountree is a well-received online teacher.a enjoys her day with other children at care center.D.Ms Rountree's children are well taken care of at care center.(2)What may be the reason for the doggy day care's popularity in Mexico?A.Dogs like to play in the center.B.Dogs are infected with pandemic.C.School and nurseries are closed down.D.Many citizens have to work at home.(3)What is the main idea of paragraph 3?A.How Mexico becomes richer.B.Why Mexicans love to raise dogs.C.How Mexicans care for their dogs.D.Why Mexico has a declining population.(4)What's the present situation of the kids in Mexico?A.They are about to return to school.B.They are second to the dogs at home.C.They have to attend their dogs at home.D.Most of them are absent from school for a year.6.It's undeniable that spending time outdoors and in nature lifts our spirits and makes us feel more centered and at peace. When we breathe in fresh air and enjoy the beauty and awe of trees, streams and oceans, we naturally tend to feel more connected to ourselves and others.Over the past decade, scientists have been exploring why nature—and dirt specifically—is such a powerful tool in improving our mood. According to researchers, the secret may lie in the microbes of the soil. One bacterium named Mycobacterium Vaccae(M. Vaccae)has been identified as having the power to affect our moods and cognitive function as well!Experiments conducted at Sage College in New York found that contact with M. Vaccae can increase serotonin levels in the brain-a chemical that is associated with higher levels of happiness, increased focus, and reduced anxiety. In order to explore how the bacteria can improve learning, researchers Dory Mathews and Susan Jenks experimented with mice in a maze. Mice that ingested the bacteria navigated the maze twice as fast as the control group and proved less anxious as well.Humans can absorb M. Vaccae just by playing in the dirt. We take in it when we breathe, we consume it in organ vegetables, and it can also enter our bloodstream through skin contact, especially where we have open cuts. This may explain why children in school perform better after break.Neuroscientist Christopher Lowry at the University of Bristol in England believes that he has identified why this incredible bacterium works. What we think happens is that the bacteria activate immune cells, which release chemicals called cytokines that then act on receptors on the sensory nerves to increase their activity.Beyond the power of M. Vaccae, scientists have been proving for decades that exposure to dirt, and the huge number of microbes found in dirt. can strengthen our immune system, when our body comes into contact with bacteria, it stores the information in a type of library and can then use that information to fight sickness and infection more effectively.Happiness, focus, less anxiety…I'll take a double dose of dirt, please!(1)Which of the followings are the benefits of Ma. These passions, like great winds, have blown me hither and thither, in a wayward course over a deep ocean of anguish, reaching to the very verge of despair.l have sought love, first, because it brings ecstasy—ecstasy so great that I would often have sacrificed all the rest of my life for a few hours for this joy. I have sought it, next, because it relieves loneliness—that terrible loneliness in which one shivering consciousness looks over the rim of the world into the cold unfathomable lifeless abyss. I have sought it, finally, because in the union of love l have seen, in a mystic miniature, the prefiguring vision of the heaven that saints and poets have imagined. This is what I sought, and though it might seem too good for human life, this is what—at last—I have found. With equal passion I have sought knowledge. I have wished to understand the hearts of men. I have wished to know why the stars shine. And I have tried to apprehend the Pythagorean(毕达哥拉斯)power by which number holds sway above the flux. A little of this, but not much, I have achieved.Love and knowledge, so far as they were possible, led upward toward the heavens. But always pity brought me back to earth. Echoes of cries of pain reverberate in my heart. Children in famine, victims tortured by oppressors, helpless old people a hated burden to their sons, and the whole world of loneliness, poverty, and pain make a mockery(嘲弄)of what human life should be. I long to alleviate(减少)the evil, but I cannot, and I too suffer. This has been my life. This process involves "trying on" new ways of thinking about oneself both intellectually(在思维方面)and personally. While we should provide "safe spaces" within colleges, we must also make it safe to express opinions and challenge majority views. Intellectual growth and flexibility are fostered by strict debate and questioning.Learning to deal with the social world is equally important. Because a college community(群体)differs from the family, many students will struggle to find a sense of belonging. If students rely on administrators to regulate their social behavior and thinking pattern, they are not facing the challenge of finding an identity within a larger and complex community. Moreover, the tendency for universities to monitor and shape student behavior runs up against another characteristic of young adults: the response to being controlled by their elders. If acceptable social behavior is too strictly defined(规定)and controlled, the insensitive or aggressive behavior that administrators are seeking to minimize may actually be encouraged. It is not surprising that young people are likely to burst out, particularly when there are reasons to do so. Our generation once joined hands and stood firm at times of national emergency. What is lacking today is the conflict between adolescents' desire for autonomy and their understanding of an unsafe world. Therefore, there is the desire for their dorms to be replacement homes and not places to experience intellectual growth.Every college discussion about community values, social climate and behavior should include recognition of the developmental importance of student autonomy and self-regulation, of the necessary tension between safety and self-discovery.(1)What's the author's attitude toward continued parental guidance to college students?A.Sympathetic.(同情的)B.Disapproving.C.Supportive.D.Neutral.(中立的)(2)The underlined word "passage" in Paragraph 2 means ______.A.changeB.choiceC.textD.extension(3)According to the author, what role should college play?A.To develop a shared identity among students.B.To define and regulate students' social behavior.C.To provide a safe world without tension for students.D.To foster students' intellectual and personal development.(4)Which of the following shows the development of ideas in the passage?A.B.C.D.3.Suppose you become a leader in an organization. It's very likely that you'll want to have volunteers to help with the organization's activities. To do so, it should help to understand why people undertake volunteer work and what keeps their interest in the work.Let's begin with the question of why people volunteer. Researchers have identified several factors that motivate people to get involved. For example, people volunteer to express personal values related to unselfishness, to expand their range of experiences, and to strengthen social relationships. If volunteer positions do not meet these needs, people may not wish to participate. To select volunteers, you may need to understand the motivations of the people you wish to attract.People also volunteer because they are required to do so. To increase levels of community service, some schools have launched compulsory volunteer programs. Unfortunately, these programs can shift people's wish of participation from an internal factor (e.g., "I volunteer because it's important to me") to an external factor (e.g., "I volunteer because I'm required to do so"). When that happens, people become less likely to volunteer in the future. People must be sensitive to this possibility when they make volunteer activities a must.Once people begin to volunteer, what leads them to remain in their positions over time? To answer this question, researchers have conducted follow-up studies in which they track volunteers over time. For instance, one study followed 238 volunteers in Florida over a year. One of the most important factors that influenced their satisfaction as volunteers was the amount of suffering they experienced in their volunteer positions. Although this result may not surprise you, it leads to important practical advice. The researchers note that attention should be given to "training methods that would prepare volunteers for troublesome situations or provide them with strategies for coping with the problem they do experience".Another study of 302 volunteers at hospitals in Chicago focused on individual differences in the degree to which people view "volunteer" as an important social role. It was assumed that those people for whom the role of volunteer was most part of their personal identity would also be most likely to continue volunteer work. Participants indicated the degree to which the social role mattered by responding to statements such as "Volunteering in Hospital is an important part of who I am." Consistent with the researchers' expectations, they found a positive correlation (正相关) between the strength of role identity and the length of time people continued to volunteer. DAn Oxfordshire branch of Waitrose has become the first to try a significant new action to cut plastic waste. From today, the Botley Road store has been dramatically transformed, with a zone designed for storingeverything from pasta and wine to washing-up liquid—without single-use containers.Hundreds of products have also been removed as part of a test aimed to run over the Plastic Free Julycampaign period until August 18, to see whether customers are keen to shop differently and make moresustainable choices. This is not the first attempt by a major British supermarket to cut back on packaging, but it's a large waste-reduction trial—and shows that big businesses are listening to consumer demand for a more sustainableshoppingexperience. In November last year, Thornton Budgens in Belsize Park conducted a similarexperiment in a movethat campaigners hoped would spur giant chains to follow up—and they've been proved right.Refill shopping(补充购物)is a preference which has been steadily becoming accepted since the UK's firstzero-waste shop opened in Totnes two years ago. The Amazon rainforest is important for preventing climate change, said the BBC, absorbing millions of tons of carbon annually. When trees are cut down or burned, the rainforest's ability to absorb carbon is reduced.Brazilian climate expert Carlos Nobre told Reuters he's worried. If more than 20 percent of the ecosystem is destroyed, the Amazon rainforest could reach a "tipping point (临界点)", where the thick jungle will turn into a tropical savannah (大草原).Nobre warned that it is not far off, with between 15 and 17 percent of the rainforest having already been destroyed. The Brazilian government has sent soldiers to fight the fires. It's also frowned upon to rush and push past—others order is preferred.Paris, FranceBeing the second busiest subway system in Europe, it's normal to find yourself face to face with astranger when packed into the Paris Metro during rush hour. It's also expected to hold open the doors of atrain to allow other passengers to board, as they close automatically after only a brief few seconds.Rome, ItalySubway travelers in London and Paris prefer to keep quiet during journeys but this isn't the case inRome. Expect to hear people chatting to one another at the top of their voices while you're packed into the train like a sardine in a can.New York, USA phenomenon only recently brought to light, "manspreading" has become the bane of New York City's non-manspreading travelers. They are at the center of much of the world's attention. Paparazzi(狗仔队)camp outside their homes, cameras ready. Tabloids(小报)publish thrilling stories about their personal lives. Just imagine not being able to do anything without being photographed or interrupted for a signature.According to psychologist Christina Villareal, celebrities—famous people—worry constantly about their public appearance. Eventually, they start to lose track of who they really are, seeing themselves the way their fans imagine them, not as the people they were before everyone knew their names. "Over time," Villareal says, "they feel separated and alone."The phenomenon of tracking celebrities has been around for ages. In the 4th century B. C., painters followed Alexander the Great into battle, hoping to picture his victories for his admirers. When Charles Dickens visited America in the 19th century, his sold-out readings attracted thousands of fans, leading him to complain(抱怨)about his lack of privacy. Tabloids of the 1920s and 1930s ran articles about film-stars in much the same way that modern tabloids and websites do.Being a public figure today, however, is a lot more difficult than it used to be. Superstars cannot move about without worrying about photographers with modern cameras. When they say something silly or do something ridiculous, there is always the Internet to spread the news in minutes and keep their "story" alive forever. If fame is so troublesome, why aren't all celebrities running away from it? The answer is there are stillways to deal with it. Some stars stay calm by surrounding themselves with trusted friends and family or by escaping to remote places away from big cities. They focus not on how famous they are but on what they love to do or whatever made them famous in the first place.Sometimes a few celebrities can get a little justice. Still, even stars who enjoy full justice often complainabout how hard their lives are. They are tired of being famous already.(1)It can be learned from the passage that stars today ________.A.are often misunderstood by the publicB.can no longer have their privacy protectedC.spend too much on their public appearanceD.care little about how they have come into fame(2)What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?A.Great heroes of the past were generally admired.B.The problem faced by celebrities has along history.C.Well-known actors are usually targets of tabloids.D.Works of popular writers often have a lot of readers.(3)What makes it much harder to be a celebrity today?A.Availability of modern media.B.Inadequate social recognition.ck of favorable chances.D.Huge population of fans.(4)What is the author's attitude toward modern celebrity?A.Sincere.B.Sceptical.C.Disapproving.D.Sympathetic.10.Late that afternoon I took the train back to Sydney. There I found another surprise waiting for me. Myroom at the hotel had been given to somebody else and they had no room for me. Harkin had known my travel plans and had planned everything. How could he have booked the room only for three days? There was nothing to be done but to find another hotel. The waiters were happy to find me a new hotel, and when I said that I was happy to stay at the airport, thinking it might be cheaper than staying in the city, they suggested the Holiday Inn at the airport. 高考英语二轮复习课后习题含答案解析(人教版新高考新教材)考点分类练(八) 主旨大意题——标题归纳类

考点分类练(八)主旨大意题——标题归纳类A(2021·山东济宁一模)During a decline in tourism, one national park in Thailand has seen a dramatic rise in“visitors”recently. So many are the hermit crabs(寄居蟹)flooding into the otherwise empty beaches of Koh Lanta that shells for them to live in have become in short supply. The Thai government moved quickly to ease the housing shortage, launching a public appeal for empty shells that netted over200kg.On December5these were distributed around the park in a ceremony.Hermit crabs rely on shells to protect their soft bodies, moving to larger shells as they grow.On Koh Lanta and the surrounding smaller islands, their rapid increase seems to be a natural phenomenon, rather than directly related to the absence of tourists. But the shortage of shells may be man-made:pretty ones have long been gathered to be sold as goods.Crabs begun to make do with potential death-traps such as plastic caps and bottles. The shell drive is part of a government initiative to regain the balance of nature.“I have instructed all national parks to do whatever it takes,”says the minister for natural resources. His inspiration comes from the pause in tourism brought on by the epidemic.A ban on international visitors and the closure of national parks have helped nature recover, bringing endangered leatherback turtles back onto Thai beaches. In the coastal provinces of Phang Nga and Phuket, turtles have laid the largest number of eggs for20years.The government has decided to try to copy the policy during the epidemic in future. From now on,all national parks will be required to close for a short period during the off-season and to limit the number of tourists through a reservation system when they are open.Although such restrictions mean reduced earnings from tourism in the short term,in the longer run more parks may help to keep the tourists coming.1.What happened to the beaches of Koh Lanta recently?A.They got flooded by seawater.B.They became completely empty.C.They were packed with hermit crabs.D.They saw a constant stream of tourists.2.What contributed to the housing shortage for hermit crabs?A.Natural disasters.B.Human activities.C.Their preference for bottles.D.The government’s involvement.3.Why are turtles mentioned in paragraph4?A.To warn turtles are dying out.B.To prove beaches are their ideal habitats.C.To stress the ecological diversity of Thailand.D.To illustrate the birth of the minister’s inspiration.4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A.Developing Economy or Protecting Animals?B.Closing National Parks or Drawing More Visitors?ernments Are Responsible for the Balance of NatureD.Authorities Help to Find Shelters for Homeless Hermit CrabsB(2021·山东烟台一模)Many teachers believe frequent quizzes(小测验)help students better grasp classroom material.Crede, an associate professor of psychology, was skeptical that something as simple as a quiz could positively affect students’academic performance. He decided to dig deeper and conduct an analytic study of existing research to see if there was any proof of the idea. What he discovered truly surprised him.Crede analysed data from previously published studies that examined52classes with almost8,000 students,to determine if frequent quizzes improved the students’academic boratory settings were kept out of the study because Crede wanted to observe whether similar studies from labs would apply to general classrooms.Crede discovered that when students were quizzed over classroom material at least once a week, they tended to perform better on midterm and final exams compared to students who did not take quizzes. He also found that students who took frequent quizzes were less likely to fail the class, especially if they were struggling with the course content.Students who struggled the most in a class seemed to benefit the greatest from frequent quizzes. The other surprising thing was how much quizzes helped reduce failure rates in classes. The chances of passing a class went through the roof where instructors used this.In addition to quiz frequency, another factor that seemed to positively affect students’performance was immediate feedback from instructors. Also, quizzes that required students to answer with written responses proved more beneficial to their understanding of classroom material compared to multiple-choice questions.Asking teachers to grade written quizzes daily or weekly may discourage some from carrying them out in their classes.Instead,it is recommended that instructors give online quizzes that can be automatically graded by a course management system.Quiz attributes(属性)proved insignificant in the study, including whether the tests were pop quizzes or planned,or if they were online or on paper.5.What did Crede do to ensure his study’s accuracy?A.He focused on what happened in classrooms.B.He researched as many students as he could.C.He made laboratory settings as real as possible.D.He gave easy quizzes to make every student do well.6.What did Crede discover in his study?A.Frequent quizzes could remove students’failure in classes.B.Instructors’feedback was more important than frequent quizzes.C.Frequent quizzes were especially useful to the struggling students.D.Multiple-choice questions shouldn’t be included in frequent quizzes.7.What may be a disadvantage of frequent quizzes for teachers?A.Accessing the Internet less frequently.B.Having too many exam papers to mark.C.Being unable to get appropriate test material.D.Finding it hard to choose the right type.8.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A.Quizzes Stimulate a Passion for CreationB.Quizzes Improve Academic PerformanceC.Quizzes Create a Heavy BurdenD.Quizzes Increase BoredomC(2021·安徽安庆高三二模)Becoming a parent brings out the best in many animals.Although parenting is usually left to the females, the males from many species will also care for the offspring.Take anemone fish(海葵鱼)for example.Despite their smaller size, the males help the females defend the nest, but only the males take care of it.They use their fins as fans to provide a constant flow of oxygen and keep the surroundings clean. They also put a lot of effort into the nest. The eggs take about five days to hatch.During this important period, the males fan them to provide oxygen and remove the rubbish. They also pick up the eggs in their mouths and move them around to remove any bacteria. One of the biggest threats comes from female sticklebacks(刺鱼),who form organised groups and attack the nests to eat all the eggs. The males defend the newborn fish and bring back the ones who move too far from the nest.Once the fish grow up,they become a little bit more independent and start to swim away. The dad swims after them, picks them up in his mouth, and spits them back into his nest.Eventually,he gets to the point where he can’t keep track of them and that’s when they separate.Doting(宠爱的)fathers are not restricted to the world of fish.In some poison frog species, the dads also warn the mums when the young ones are hungry and need to be fed.9.What does the underlined word“offspring”in paragraph1probably mean?A.Children.B.Relatives.C.Friends.D.Colleagues.10.What can we infer about the male anemone fish?A.They take full responsibility for building the nest.B.They are much larger than
