d) Is the organization of chapters orderly and logical? e) What are the author's subject and the broad field into which the work fits? What approach does the author take to the subject? f) What is the central thesis? What methodology is used? How comprehensive is the research? g) Does the book have illustrations? An index? Bibliography? What other features does it have? Are they effective and user-friendly?
What needs to be included in the review:

Length: It can be of any reasonable length and it also depends on journals. But the common length is 2,000 words. Format: one-inch margins; font: Times New Roman (12) Books to review: Any books listed in VanPatten & Williams’ book, or a book on SLA theories of your choice (instructors’ approval may be needed)
3. Your critical evaluation of the book: a) Identify any problems, ask questions, and present merits or demerits of the book. b) Is the author's prose readable? Exceptionally good, fair, or hard to follow? c) How appropriate is the book's title? Does it promise essentially what the book delivers? d) Are you aware of factual errors in the book? Oversights? Faulty assumptions?
2. A description or summary of the book’s contents. a) For whom is the book written? (Fellow scholars? Non-academics?) b) Is the book appropriate to its audience? c) How is the book structured? -- If it is an edited collection of papers by different authors, state what each paper is about. -- If the book consists of several chapters, describe what each chapter discusses.

d) Why was the book written? Has the author met these objectives? e) What is your personal response to the book? Is it satisfying to read? Is it enjoyable? Convincing? Why? If it isn't, why not? f) Would you recommend this book, and if yes, to what kind of readers? g) Does this book contribute to the field, and if so, in what ways?
