For example: it is recorded in many history books that people who lived over three thousand years ago ate sailed fish. Thousands of years ago in Egypt, salt was used to preserve the dead. In some periods of history, a person who stole salt was thought to have broken the law. Take the 18th century for example, if a person was caught stealing salt, he would be thrown into prison. History also records that only in English about ten thousand people were put into prison during that century for stealing salt! But one hundred and fifty years before, in the year 1553, if a man took more than his share of salt, he would be thought to have broken the law and would be seriously punished. Many people believe that the hump(驼峰) of a camel is full of water. They believe this is the reason that camels do not have to drink very often, but they are quite wrong.

A camel’s hump is not full of water. It is mostly fat. The camel’s body can use the fat tater when it is hungry, but it dose not help the camel go for a long time without drinking. A camel can do this because it dose not sweat very much.

When people - and most other animals – get out, they sweat. Sweat is mostly water from the body. Therefore, when people sweat, they lose water and soon have to drink. If they do not drink water, they die. When a camel gets not, it dose not sweet very much, so it dose not lose much of the water in its body. It does not need to drink very often.

There is very little water in the desert, so any animal that dose not need much water is very useful for carrying people and things across the desert. Camels can travel a long way without stopping for good or water. This is why the camel “the sh ip of the Desert”-It carries its food and water with it and it can go for a long time between towns.

People still use camel in the deserts of North Africa in many other places.
