一、专用英语ESP的构成专用英语ESP(EnglishforSpecial Purposes)产生的原因是:学习者迫切需要掌握英语以便学习外国的先进经验,提高自己的专业水平和更好地发挥自己作为科学家、技术师、工程师等的作用,而英语从整体上来看很复杂,许多外国人感到颇难掌握,于是,他们便根据自己的实际情况选择了一种较为容易的方法,即只须将英语掌握到能熟练地用于某一特定目的即可。
专用英语就是在这种背景下于本世纪70年代应运而生。
ESP一般由三部分组成,分别为学术英语EAP(English forAcademic Purposes)职业英语EOP(English for Occupational Purposes)和科技英语EST。
学术英语EAP指学生在以英语为教学语言的高等院校里为完成学业(如听课、记笔记、参加讨论、考试、写论文等)所必须依赖的基本英语技能。
学术英语的主要使用对象是在英美及其它讲英语的国度里学习的外国留学生。
职业英语EOP指某些职业所要求的基本英语技能,如国际电讯、国际航空、国际贸易、涉外酒店、旅游、电脑程序设计、技术职业培训等等。
