1Seeing the Beautiful Lanterns at SchoolWow, the lanterns at our school were so pretty this year! Every spring, our teachers decorate the hallways and classrooms with colorful lanterns to celebrate the Lantern Festival. It's one of my favorite times of the year. This year, the lanterns looked extra special. There were lanterns in all different shapes and sizes hanging from the ceiling. Some were round like balls, others were long and skinny. They came in so many bright colors too - red, yellow, blue, green, purple, pink, and more! The colors blended together and glowed warmly in the hallway light. My favorite lanterns were the animal ones. There was a big green dragon lantern that almost looked alive as it twisted around. I could see every spike on its back and scales on its body. The rabbit lantern looked so bouncy and cute with its long ears and puffed out cheeks. But the best one was the phoenix lantern with its feathers spread out wide like it was getting ready to takeflight. The shimmery orange and yellow patterns made it seem like it was on fire!In class, we learned all about the Lantern Festival traditions. Teacher Zhang told us the lanterns are supposed to celebrate the return of spring and symbolize letting go of the past year. People light the lanterns at night to welcome in good luck for the new year. She said a long time ago, people even used to write riddles on the lanterns and have contests to see who could solve them best!My friends and I decided to make our own riddle lanterns. We each got a small paper lantern to decorate however we wanted. Then we wrote a riddle about an animal on a piece of paper and put it inside. We walked around sharing our lantern riddles with each other and trying to guess what animal each one was for. It was so much fun!At the end of the week, we had a big Lantern Festival performance where each class showed off their lanterns. The fourth graders did a dragon dance while the fifth graders played traditional music on drums and flutes. We sang some Lantern Festival songs and chanted together. When the lights went off, all of the beautiful lanterns around the room started glowing inthe dark. It looked just like a starry night sky! Some parents even came and joined us for the celebration. After the show, everyone got to take their lantern home. I can't wait to hang mine up in my room. Whenever I see it, I'll remember the excitement of this Lantern Festival at school and all the pretty colors and shapes of the lanterns. Maybe I can make new ones with my family next year too! The Lantern Festival is definitely one of the best times at school.篇2Watching the Lanterns at SchoolOne of my favorite times of the year is when we get to watch the lanterns at school. It's a special event that only happens once a year, and I always look forward to it so much! This year was even more exciting because I'm in third grade now and I understand more about the meaning behind the lantern festival.A few weeks before the festival, our teacher Mrs. Park taught us all about the history and traditions. She explained that the lantern festival started in ancient China as a celebration of the first full moon of the lunar new year. People would hang up beautiful lanterns with riddles written on them as a way toadmire the moon's bright light. If someone could correctly solve the riddle, they would get to keep that lantern as a prize!I thought that sounded like such a fun tradition. I love solving riddles and puzzles, so I started practicing right away. I asked my parents and older brother to give me brain teasers and riddles from old books we have at home. Every night before bed, they would quiz me with new ones to get me ready. Finally, the night of the lantern festival arrived at school. I was so excited, I could barely sit still during our lessons that day. When the final bell rang, all the students gathered outside on the playground. The sunset was just starting, turning the sky pretty shades of pink, purple, and orange. And that's when we saw them - rows and rows of beautiful lanterns hanging everywhere! They were all different colors and shapes with intricate designs. I gasped when I saw how pretty they looked, glowing softly in the fading light.Mrs. Park explained that parent volunteers had hung up the lanterns earlier that day while we were in class. Each one had a riddle written inside, just like the ancient tradition. She told us to walk around and try to solve as many riddles as we could before it got fully dark.I took off running to start right away. The first lantern I saw was bright red in the shape of a butterfly. I opened the little door and read the riddle:"I am always hungry,I must always be fed,The finger that points to me is dead."I thought and thought, whispering the words over and over. Finally, it hit me - the answer was fire! The riddle made sense because fire is always hungry for more fuel, and whenever you point at a fire that finger appears to be dead and burnt. I wrote down the solution proudly and moved on to the next lantern.Over the next hour, I solved riddle after riddle as the sky grew darker and the lanterns glowed brighter. I was having so much fun running around in the crisp night air, reading the creative riddles and letting my brain work hard to decipher them. Some were hard and took me a long time to solve, while others made me laugh when I finally understood the clever wordplay. When Mrs. Park finally called time, I had solved 12 riddles successfully! That was more than anyone else in my class. As my prize, I got to choose 12 lanterns to take home and keep. I picked the most beautiful ones with my favorite colors and patterns. On the walk home, I clutched my lanterns tightly and couldn't stop smiling. They looked even prettier in the darkness with their warm glowing light. I realized that I solved so many riddles because I had practiced so hard. Preparing and studying had really paid off. My brother teased me for being such a nerd who likes riddles and brain teasers. But I don't mind - all my preparation made winning at the lantern festival that much more rewarding. Now my special lanterns are hanging in my bedroom where I can look at them every night before bed. They remind me of the fun nightI had at school, using my brain and appreciating the beauty of the ancient tradition. I can't wait for the lantern festival to come around again next year! Maybe I'll even be able to make up some tough riddles of my own to stump my classmates. Either way, I know I'll be spending weeks getting ready so I can try to be the riddle master again.篇3Observing Lanterns at SchoolWow, today was such an exciting day at school! We got to go outside during the afternoon and observe all the beautiful lanterns that were hung up around the playground and schoolgardens. My teacher, Mrs. Roberts, told us it was for an upcoming festival celebrating light. I couldn't wait to see the pretty lanterns up close. When we went outside, I was amazed by all the bright colors and intricate designs. The lanterns came in so many different shapes too - some were round like balls, others were cylindrical like pillars, and some even looked like animals or flowers. My favorite was probably the dragon lantern with its twisting scaled body and big eyes. It looked so fierce yet whimsical at the same time. The lanterns were made from materials like paper, silk, bamboo, and even metal in some cases. Many had beautiful patterns and symbols painted or stitched onto them. Mrs. Roberts said the symbols often represented things like good luck, prosperity, happiness, and other positive meanings. I tried looking up what some of them meant using a book from the library during our lantern observation time. The lanterns were hung from trees, poles, awnings, you name it! Everywhere you looked there were pops of bright reds, yellows, greens, and other vibrant colors glowing in the sunlight. It made the whole school grounds look so cheerful and alive. Icould have spent hours just walking around admiring all the creative designs. At one point, Mrs. Roberts gathered us together and told us about the history and cultural significance behind lantern festivals. I learned they started in ancient China but are now celebrated across many Asian countries and communities worldwide. People would decorate their homes and public spaces with elaborate lanterns and have parades, displays, and other festivities under the soft glowing light. After explaining all the background, Mrs. Roberts had us try our hand at making our own miniature lantern out of simple materials like paper, sticks, and tissue paper. It was a lot harder than I thought to get the folds and shapes right! I made kind of a lopsided rounded lantern and decorated it with markers and stickers. It didn't turn out quite as elegant as the real ones, but I was still proud of my little creation. Some of my classmates made really impressive lanterns in all sorts of wacky animal shapes and designs. Tommy made one that looked like a rocket ship, while Sara's looked like a big smiling sunflower. When we were all done, Mrs. Roberts hung our handmade lanterns in the classroom windows so the warmlight could shine through in the evening. I can't wait to see how it looks when I arrive at school tomorrow morning!Overall, the lantern observation was one of the coolest activities we've done all year. I had so much fun admiring all the beautiful craftsmanship and learning about the traditions behind the lantern festivals. Who knew there was such a rich history and cultural meaning behind those glowing ornaments? It really opened my eyes to appreciate things from other cultures that I had never even heard of before. Getting to make my own lantern was the cherry on top of an already awesome experience. I'll definitely never look at those decorative lanterns the same way again!。
