Just as mysterious is the device known as the Antikythera Mechanism. Dubbed the world’s first analog computer, this rusted machine dates from the first century BC and was discovered in a shipwreck in 1901. Though the device was created in Greece and discovered in Greek waters, the ship was Roman. It is speculated that device was part of the spoils of war and, but for the sinking of the vessel, may have ended up in then emperor Julius Caesar’s clutches. It wasn’t until a century after its discovery that experts realized that it was some kind of astronomical device. Knowledge of the contraption is still limited as it has over 30 settings, only a few of which are understood. What is completely astounding is that no evidence of as complex a mechanism as this can be found until the invention of clocks in China 1,000 years later.

Even if you want to make use of e-mail alone, global marketing becomes an inexpensive reality. But the primary place for business to be done on the Internet is, of course, the World Wide Web.
Marketers with global goals are now establishing mirror sites and multiple-language versions of their Web sites. Internet translation tools are available that make this easier to do. It is only a matter of time until those marketers use their Web sites to accept and fulfill orders online from customers worldwide.
Developing global marketing partnerships. Internet marketing makes joint ventures attractive and easy to implement. A marketer can join together with one or more partners whose products or services complement the marketer’s products or services. Then members of this consortium can pool their resources. They can execute cooperative E-mail campaigns by sharing each other’s lists or form a collaborative Web site that features their solution set. 商务英语泛读教案Teaching Notes for Business English Extensive Reading课程内容及目标:Ⅰ阅读理解:能够读懂英语国家出版的中等难度的各种材料和文章(包括新闻电讯与特写、短文、电报、传记、游记及史地科普文章)、难度相当于The moon Is Down 的文学原著、Reader's Digest 等报刊、杂志,以及少年百科全书中各种文章。

阅读速度为80个词/分钟,能了解中心大意,抓住主要论点或情节;能根据所读材料进行推理和分析,领会作者的真实意图。

Ⅱ快速阅读:能在3-4分钟内速读1000词左右的中等难度的文章(生词不超过总词数3%),了解中心大意,根据上下文和构词知识猜测和判断词义。

快速阅读可分为:1、略读:要求以“全景式”浏览全文。

目的是检查对文章大意的理解程度。

重点放在从整体意义上把握作者思维的轨迹。

E-commerce is often not fully electronic. Typically, online transactions require some level of human intervention. The overall goal, however is to integrate E-commerce into existing business processes in such a way that processing the order moves seamlessly through existing accounting, order processing, and inventory systems no matter how a transaction originates whether through a sales call, an online order or a retail outlet.
E-commerce represents buying and selling goods and services electronically. For example, order processing is a function of E-commerce. Others refer to E-business as using the Internet for any other business support functions that do not directly support sales, such as setting up travel arrangements for employees or transferring stock between warehouses.
