And when this agent ultimately parted ways with me,I felt like I had failed. Now with time and distance,I realize I tried to fit Lotus into a neurotypical style to please my agent. And as a result,Lotus lost her Lotus-ness.When that agent discouraged me from writing Lotus as autistic(自闭的),he said that would make Lotus seem more“vulnerable(脆弱的)”or an“obvious victim”.I didn’t want Lotus to seem vulnerable.Lotus’autism is what makes her powerful,I tried to explain. But from a neurotypical perspective,Lotus’autism could only be seen as a weakness.Unsure of how to convince my agent of the strength and power autistic women hold,I began to write Lotus as“neurotypical”.And I failed miserably. After all, what do I knowabout being neurotypical? My whole life, autism was my default. Not being diagnosed until 2020,I assumed the way I saw the world was“normal”.My current agent encourages me to write from my neurodivergent(神经多样性的) experience. With this invitation,I revisited Lotus and saw her the way I first wrote her.And when I did,the characters and the entire narrative began to make more sense.Identifying my characters as neurodivergent not only gives me joy as a writer, but it has produced my strongest writing. For so long,I’ve combatted the advice to“write what I know”, in part because I didn’t know what I actually knew.I didn’t know I was neurodivergent. But as I mine the specificity of my lived experience,my writing is stronger. There is a power to our lived experience. It’s not a limitation on our craft, but a swinging open of the gates. 24.How did the author feel when receiving the repeated response from the first agent?A.Confused.B.Convinced.C.Determined.D.Disappointed. 25.Lotus’personality got lost because______A.Lotus no longer lived inside the author B.the author attempted to please the agent C.the agent failed to sympathize with Lotus D.Lotus was considered childish and lonely26.What do we know about the author?A.She regretted parting with the agent.B.She owed her success in life to autism.C.She was aware of her autism in the early years.D.She was empowered by her autistic experience.27.What has the author learned from her own experience?A.Stick to your dream despite discouragement.B.Be true to yourself and write from your heart.C.Giving in to authority is the barrier to success.D.Everyone is born an original instead of a copy.To a chef, the sounds of lip smacking, slurping and swallowing are the highest form of flattery(恭维).But to someone with a certain type of misophonia(恐音症),these same sounds can be torturous.Brain scans are now helping scientists start to understand why.People with misophonia experience strong discomfort, annoyance or disgust when they hear particular triggers. These can include chewing, swallowing, slurping, throat clearing, coughing and even audible breathing.Researchers previously thought this reaction might be caused by the brain overactively processing certain sounds. Now,however,a new study published in Journal of Neuroscience has linked some forms of misophonia to heightened “mirroring”behavior in the brain:those affected feel distress while their brains act as if they were imitating the triggering mouth movements.“This is the first breakthrough in misophonia research in25years,”says psychologist Jennifer J.Brout, who directs the International Misophonia Research Network and was not involved in the new study. The research team, led by Neweastle University neuroscientist Sukhbinder Kumar, analyzed brain activity in people with and without misophonia when they were at rest and while they listened to sounds. These included misophonia triggers(such as chewing), generally unpleasant sounds(like a crying baby),and neutral sounds. The brain’s auditory (听觉的)cortex, which processes sound, reacted similarly in subjects with and without misophonia. But in both the resting state and listening trials, people with misophonia showed stronger connections between the auditory cortex and brain regions that control movements of the face, mouth and throat, while the controlled group didn’t.Kumar found this connection became most active in participants with misophonia when they heard triggers specific to the condition.“Just by listening to the sound, they activate the motor cortex more strongly. So in a way it was as if they were doing the action themselves,”Kumar says. Some mirroring is typical in most humans when witnessing others’actions;the researchers do not yet know why an excessive(过分的)mirroring response might cause such a negative reaction, and hope to address that in future research.“Possibilities include a sense of loss of control, invasion of personal space,or interference with current goals and actions,”the study authors write.Fatima Husain,an Illinois University professor of speech and hearing science, who was not involved in the study, says potential misophonia therapies could build on the new findings by counseling patients about handling unconscious motor responses to triggering sounds—not just coping with the sounds themselves. If this works, she adds, one should expect to see reduced connected activity between the auditory and motor cortices.28.It can be learnt from the new study that______.A.misophonia sufferers can’t help imitating the triggersB.people with misophonia are more likely to flatter chefsthe world together. They can redress the proclaimed objectivity in science by bringing stories —subjectivities—into the picture, and these can help foster a sense of connection and hope.In2012,I set up artist residencies in medical research centres around the world.Bui was attached to the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Vietnam. The head of the research team was delighted, finding that Bui,as a Vietnamese artist, had license to be in,and to share useful insights from, villages where infectious disease researchers weren’t welcome. Six years later,I led Wellcome’s Contagious Cities program, which established artist residencies worldwide to support locally led explorations of epidemic preparedness. The recent pandemic made this work more noticeable, and has informed our Mindscapes program which is currently sharing experiences of mental health through the work of artists. With pandemic, climate and mental health crises upon us,rising inequality and what feels like an increasingly broken world, never has there been more need to build and nurture hopeful and imaginative spaces to grow human connection and shared purpose for the common good.Science and the arts can work hand in glove to achieve this.31.The author lists two works in Paragraph1mainly to______.A.reveal the gap between science and art B.prove his competence in both science and artC.introduce successful science-related artworks D.show that science can be promoted in art forms32.What does the underlined word“chequered”in Paragraph2probably mean?A.Recent and remote.B.Good and bad.C.Usual and unusual.D.Peaceful and scary.33.Which of the following would the author agree?A.Policy-makers base their decisions on science.B.Researchers popularize science effectively.C.Science is well received among the public.D.The arts help people buildconnections.34.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A.The Value of the Arts to Science B.Where Do Science and the Arts Meet?C.A New Way to Fight Pandemic—the Arts D.Which Matters More,Science or the Arts?四、七选五B.Toxic positivity also disrupts connection.C.It can harm people who are going through difficult times.D.This can come up in different situations when we are dealing with pressure.E.They become more intense and can cause long-lasting health concerns in the future.F.Experts say constant forced positivity can lead to the opposite, and have a negative effect.G.This is what we may bring on to ourselves by not allowing negative thoughts and feelings.五、阅读表达阅读下面短文,根据题目要求用英文回答问题。

For young adults who love to read, finding some good books to read is very essential. Writing a book review can help you to improve your language and writing skills. The Book ThiefListed onThe New York Times Children’s Best Seller List for over 100 weeks, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is the story of a young girl in the Nazi camps set during World War II. So, if you love history and wish to learn how the life was during Adolf Hitler’s time, read this historic book. The Diary of Young GirlEven Anne Frank can not have imagined that her personal diary written during World War II would become such a popular book. It’s a must read that describes the situation of a family in the evils of wars through the eyes of a teenager.Animal FarmAnimal Farm is one of the most popular books by George Orwell. It is just a reflection of the Stalin and World War II period that has been so creatively presented in this book. It is an interesting example of how literature can be used to present conditions common in the society.Adventures of Huckleberry FinnMark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is one of the great American novels in history, and is certainly a great pick for young adults. Young Huck Finn and his mischief along with the color1 ful description of people around theMississippi Rivermake this novel a great book to read.1.Which book describes the author’s own experiences according to this passage?A.The Book ThiefB.The Diary of Young GirlC.Animal FarmD.Adventures of Huckleberry Finn2.What do the first three books have in common?A.All of them are about wars.B.All of them are about farms.C.All of them are intended for history lovers.D.All of them were written during World War II.3.The purpose of this passage is to _________.A.instruct youngsters how to improve skillsB.tell youngsters some wonderful reading habitsC.introduce several good books to youngstersD.give youngsters advice on writing a book reviewBThe first patient who died on my watch was an older man with a faulty heart. We tried to slow it down with treatment, but it suddenly stopped beating completely. Later, whenever I would have a case like that one, I found myself second-guessing my clinical management. However, it turns out that thinking twice may actually cause more harm than good.In a working paper, Emory University researchers found that when doctors delivering a baby have a bad result, they are more likely to switch to a different delivery method with the next patient, often unnecessarily and sometimes with worse results.Because doctors make so many decisions that have serious consequences, thefalloutfrom second-guessing appears especially large for us. A 2006 study found that if a patient had a bleed after being prescribed (开药) warfarin, the physician was about 20% less likely to prescribe later patients the blood thinner that prevents strokes (中风). However, if a patient was not on warfarin and had a stroke physicians were still no more likely to prescribe warfarin to their other patients. These findings highlight interesting behavioral patterns in doctors. In the blood-thinner study, doctors were more affected by the act of doing harm (prescribing a blood thinner that ended up hurting doctors were more affected by the act of doing harm(prescribing a blood thinner that ended up hurting a patient) and less affected by letting harm happen (not prescribing a blood thinner and the patient having a stroke). Yet a stroke is often more permanent and damaging than a bleed. But this phenomenon is not unique to medicine. ''Overreaction to Fearsome Risks'' holds true for broader society. For instance, sensational headlines about shark attacks on humans in Florida in 2001 caused a panic and led the state to prohibit shark-feeding expeditions. Yet shark attacks had actually fallen that year and, according to the study, such a change was probably unnecessary given the extremely small risk of such an attack happening.Humans are likely to be influenced by emotional and often irrational (不理性的) thinking when processing information, bad events and mistakes. As much as we don't want to cause an unfortunate event to happen again, we need to be aware that a worst situation that can be imagined doesn't necessarily mean we did anything wrong. When we overthink, we fail to rely on thinking based on what we know or have experienced. Instead, we may involuntarily overanalyze and come to the wrong conclusion.I have treated dozens of patients who presented with the same illnesses as my first patient, who died more than a year ago. Instead of second-guessing myself, I trusted my clinical instinct (本能) and stayed the course. Every one of those patients survived. You should trust your instinct in your life, too.4. The first two paragraphs suggest that________.A. bad medical outcomes affect doctorsB delivering babies can be difficult workC. some doctors are not very experiencedD. doctors sometimes make silly mistakes5. In the blood-thinner study, doctors________.A. tend to prescribe less effective medicineB. are more concerned about the patients' safetyC. become less confident in writing a prescriptionD. believe a stroke is more treatable than a bleeding6. What does the underlined word ''fallout'' in Paragraph 3 probably mean?A. ResultB. BenefitC. DifferenceD. Absence7. The author will probably agree that________.A. we should not doubt our own decisionsB. our experience will pave way for our futureC. humans are emotional and irrational on the wholeD. instincts don't necessarily lead to wrong directionsCJohn Montefiore's path to graduation from theUniversityofTorontowas a little unusual. As a student much older than others, he found it harder to make friends with classmates. However, no matter what had happened before, he finally got his bachelor's degree. He said, “After all these years, I had thought it wouldn't mean anything, but it means a lot. I totally understand the value of education now. It’s estimated(估计)only 9%of plastic ever created has been recycled. But with the help of a chemical process, Canadian Miranda Wang and her company BioCellection want to change that.Stability is one of plastic greatest qualities and downside. There's limited evidence that some plastics can biodegrade (生物降解)but largely photo-plastics degrade in the sun. It’s a long process, and the truth is that we can only estimate how long it takes. Wang is looking to break the inaction and BioCellection's task is to make most plastic waste recyclable. She outlines two current methods. One is to take plastics like water bottles, wash them, cut them, melt and reconstitute them. “That's a very limited process” she says, due to the requirement that plastics be “clean” . The other, which can handle dirtier plastics and a level of pollution, is called hydrolysis(热解). Intense heat is applied to break down plastics so they can be reused as oils for energy, but “it’s not economical,’’ she says.BioCellection’s solution builds on research from over ten years ago, Wang explains, when a US studydiscovered pure polyethylene powder (聚乙烯粉)could be broken down by a catalyst (催化剂). Wang and her co-founder Jean hit upon a bacterium being able to eat plastic. In the years since, they engineered a comparable catalyst capable of doing the same job, only faster, which even works on plastics no one else can recycle at present. “We have now found a catalyst that is much cheaper than the one that was used before, Wang says.Currently focusing on plastic films like shopping hags, the three-hour process breaks clown plastic into chemicals that can act as the building blocks for more complex plastic products.“Right now we’re able to achieve about 70% transformation from plastic waste material to these chemicals,” she adds, saying they’re working to increase that figure.12. Why has so little plastic been recycled?A. Plastic is chemically stable.B. Recycling plastic led to pollution.C. We produced various plastics.D. Most photo-plastics degrade in the sun.13. What does Wang think of the two current methods?A. Highly effective and dynamic.B. Expensive and pollution-causing.C. Limited and energy-consuming.D. Widely used and recognized.14. What did BioCellection find effective to recycle plastics?A. Polyethylene powder.B. Chemical products.C. Plastic films.D. A catalyst.15. What is the text mainly about?A. Miranda Wang and her company.B. A new plastic recycling method.C. The greatest downside of plastic.D. Transformation of plastic waste.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

2020年北京市海淀国际学校高三英语期中考试试题及参考答案

2020年北京市海淀国际学校高三英语期中考试试题及参考答案第一部分阅读(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项AThree Things to Do Before You Are 18Are you bored with your daily life? Here are some things you should try before you are 18.★Learn to swimSeriously, this is so important that it can save your life. If you can’t swim well, you won’t be able to dowater sports like waterskiing, surfing and diving. Even taking a boat trip will be dangerous for you. Make sure you do it.★Try at least one kind of team sportsBeing a good team player is an important skill in life. You can’t just think of yourself, but have to work well with other people. Other advantages of team sports like basketball, football and baseball are that they keep you fit and healthy, and they are also great fun. Teams usually have a good social life too—you’ll go to lots of parties and make many friends.★Collect somethingOne of the best hobbies for under-18s is collecting things. You could collect kinds of stamps, or you could collect things that make you remember what you have done, like cinema tickets for films you have seen or letters from friends. The best way to collect is to have a special album to put your collection in and to write what each thing means to you. That way you won’t forget.1. The most important reason for learning to swim is that ________.A. you might feel wellB. it can make you healthyC. you might easily do lots of thingsD. it can save your life2. The writer tells us that one of the best hobbies is to ________ .A. collect somethingB. do some water sportsC. send letters to your friendsD. play basketball with your friends23. The passage is mainly about ________before you are 18.A. good habits to keepB. skills to haveC. things to doD. sports to playBThe measurable threat to the environment has been worsened by the spread of COVID-19 that increases the need for plastic protective equipment. Most plastic is made from fossil fuels. Millions of tons of greenhouse gas are released from the development of these resources and plastic production and burning. The end life of plastic is just worrisome. Less than 10% of the plastic produced has been recycled. Even more of it has been burned. But the vast majority of plastic has been buried inland, and it is increasingly polluting the environment. We hear mostly about ocean plastic and the harm done to sea creatures that mistake plastic bags and bits for food. But microplastic is even more worrisome. Plastic doesn't break down biologically but instead breaks down into tiny particles(a very small piece of something), which have been found in every corner of the planet, on land and in the air, in drinking water and food sources.Yet the public has not given this global environmental disaster the attention it requires. Instead, they have viewed single-use plastic—which makes up about 40% of plastic used each year—as a litter issue that can be solved through better recycling and waste management. That attitude must change because the recent global breakdown of the market for recycling has made it clear that it has never been, nor ever will be, able to keep up with plastic trash use.California has been the forerunner of plastic waste reduction—it was the first state to ban single-use plastic bags and may be the first state to transform the way goods are packaged. The state also came close to passing an act which would have required that products sold in plastic packaging in the state have a proven recycling rate of 75% by 2032. California, though influential, can't solve this crisis alone. The US has long been producing a great amount of plastic trash and it should engage in reducing the use of plastic as well.4. Why does the author mention the release of greenhouse gas in paragraph 1?A. To show the harm of plasticB. To warn of the climate change.C. To call for the development of fossil fuels.D. To highlight the importance of plastic equipment.5. What's the author's attitude towards the public opinion on single-use plastic?A. Favorable.B. Tolerant.C. Curious.D. Opposed.6. What's California's role in reducing plastic waste?A. A pioneer.B. A failure.C. An objector.D. A predictor.7. What can be the best title for the text?A. Microplastic Products Are HarmfulB. Waste Recycling Is an Urgent MatterC. Plastic Waste Pollution Is a Wake-up CallD. Global Environmental Disasters Are IncreasingCWhen the COVID-19 hit and supermarket shelves were empty, Chris Hall and Stefanny Lowey decided they no longer wanted to rely on others for food. The couple, who live on Pender Island in BritishColumbia, Canada, decided to start a year-long challenge where they wouldn't buy a single thing to eat. Instead they would grow, raise or catch everything—right down to sugar, salt and flour. Now, five months in, they say the challenge has changed their lives.Chris, 38, said, “It has always been something that we have wanted to do. We have had a garden and grown vegetables for a long time already. When the COVID-19 hit, it gave us that extra push that we needed to do it. We were both out of work when we started, and with the reality check of grocery stores running out of items, it gave us even more motivation to see if we could look after ourselves.”The pair spent the months before building a house for chickens, ducks and turkey as well as studying as much as possible to figure out where they would get all the things they needed. Chris adds, “We had to learn so many new things like how to grow mushrooms, process our Stevia plants, and harvest salt from the ocean. We spent a lot of time reading and studying online to figure out all the things we were going to need to do.”Now after five months, they both feel its been going well but Chris admits the first few weeks were difficult. “The first three weeks were very challenging as our bodies adjusted to cutting out coffee, wine and sugar all on the same day,” he says. “After three weeks our energy levels balanced out and our wishes reduced and now we feel great.” Now February has ended. As they come through winter, they feel positive about continuing with this way of living, with their challenge officially ending in August.8. Why did the pair decide to produce foods on their own?A. They were isolated by Pender Island.B. They couldn't afford to buy them because they were out of work.C. They believed it's good for their health.D. They could hardly buy them in shops.9. Which words can be used to describe the couple?A. Rich and generous.B. Helpful and positive.C. Optimistic and self-dependent.D. Motivated and brave.10. What can we learn from the last paragraph?A. Their challenge may last about eleven months in total.B. They were discouraged by the difficulty at first.C. They had difficulty because they wanted more.D. They couldn't adjust their bodies to the hard work after three weeks.11. In which column may you read such a passage?A. Sports.B. Agriculture.C. Lifestyle.D. Business.DWhen a fire broke out in my home in the middle of the night, I knew I'd do anything I could to save my family. The medicine that I take for my rheumatoid arthritis causes me to wake up inthe middle of the night with a dry mouth. January 15, 2016, was no different. I, Indiana, US, awoke at 2:30am needing water.I was walking back upstairs from the kitchen when I heard my bulldog , Rock. Whatever Rock was doing down there, it made enough noise for me to go to him. By the time I made it to the bottom of the stairs, he was running up, and he never came up the stairs, no matter what. I think that was his way of telling me, "We've got to go back up. "When I got to the top of the stairs, I turned around and saw a light on, but I didn't remember leaving one on. I walked downstairs again, and that's when I saw fire. I immediately shouted to my wife to wake up and get our three kids. I grabbed a knife and cut out the plastic that covered the window to the porch roof. I then pried open the window and kicked out the screen. I started screaming for help. But help never came. I got everybody out on the roof and threw a blanket out there so we wouldn't slip off. It was cold, January cold. Then I started screaming for help. But help never came. Now, I'm scared of heights and have physical issues, what with my rheumatoid arthritis, but I couldn't let my family burn up. So I jumped off the roof. I didn't scoot to the edge; I just jumped and got the wind knocked out of me when I landed. I found our ladder, placed it against the house, and climbed back up to the roof. I wrapped my arms around my daughter and carried my nine - month - old with my teeth, by his little sleeper. Then I climbed down the ladder. AThe Best Time to Visit These Pricey DestinationsIf you’re going to shell out on a vacation, then you might as well do it right. With that in mind, we’ve asked a few experts for tips on when to visit some of the most expensive places across the globe. Here’s what they had to say.BotswanaHotels in Botswana are second only to Dubai in terms of average cost per person, per night, at around $257. To make the most of your time there, consider an autumn visit, suggests Sarah Faith of Responsible Travel. “The heat peaks in October—this is the best time to go and see wild animals as they gather around in the Okavango Delta”, says Faith. While wildlife vi ewing is incredible in Botswana, there’s much to enjoy away from the wilderness, too.”New York CityNew York is the second-most expensive holiday destination overall and the most expensive place to dine out, with an average meal for two costing around $67. Garrett, the CEO of Discover New York, suggests, “October and June have gorgeous weather, so outdoor activities are a good choice, with sailing, in-depth neighborhood walks and biking.” For great value, she advises traveling in January and February, when the city offers tons of indoor activities, from art galleries and Broadway shows to indoor sports events and thousands of dining options.SydneyWith its incredible surfing beaches, dining scene and friendly locals, Sydney is always a favorite of travel ers. It’s also expensive. Generally, the shoulder seasons (fall and spring in the U.S.) have the most comfortable weather and fewer crowds than the December-to-February high season. But some months have particular appeal, according to Stuart Rigg, Australian travel specialist for Southern Crossings. April, for example, falls into the low season, which means you’ll find hotel deals along with weather that’s typically “very pleasant,” Rigg says. “Sydney also has some great events during this low season period,” he adds.LondonPetulia Melideo, who runs Context’s London walking tours, advises booking well in advance for lower hotel rates, and suggests a wintry visit. “November is a great time for London. The weather is still tolerable—and if it gets too chilly, there are plenty of cozy pubs to pop into,” she says. Other good times to visit include June, which means fewer tourists.16. According to the passage, October is the best time to travel to________.A. New York and BotswanaB. London and SydneyC. New York and LondonD. Sydney and Botswana17. Visitors to Sydney __________.A. may find cheap hotels in the shoulder seasonsB. can enjoy wonderful beaches and dining sceneC. will experience the most comfortable weather in DecemberD. should avoid the low season because of the unpleasant weather18. Which is the desirable month if you’d like to visit London without too many crowds?A. April.B. June.C. November.D.December.BA Blessed TeacherI remembered Ricky came back to see me ten years after he was in my class. He told me how I had inadvertently(不经意地) changed his life.Ricky often gazed out the window during one of my ninth-grade history classes early in my teaching career. He was quiet, and his good grades and mild manner were why I did not move him away from the seat by the window. One day, I leaned over his shoulder and quietly asked, “What are you looking at? You gaze out of this window during every class.”He said, “I am looking at the band.”According to Ricky, I said, “If you like the band so much that you have to look at them during this class every day, I want you to go down to Mr. Overby (the band teacher) and tell him that I sent you. Tell him that you want to be in the band. Now turn around and finish working before the bell rings.”The next day Ricky went to Mr. Overby and told him I had sent him and he wanted to be in the band. He added that he did not know how to play any instrument. When Ricky visited me ten years later, he thanked me for telling him to go to Mr. Overby because he fell in love with music and discovered his musical talent that had not been tapped. His musical talent resulted in him getting a scholarship to college and earning a degree that now allowed him to provide for his family. Most of all, music had brought great pleasure and satisfaction to his life. After Ricky thanked me, I pointed out that he did all of the hard work it took to become the wonderfully talented person that he was. I did not make him walk downstairs to join the band, practice his instrument, and get the good grades that led to his college scholarship.Ricky responded that I could have yelled at him for looking out the window. Instead, I gave him an alternative that changed his whole life. After he left, I thought about his words. I realized that I was teaching children with every word I said, every action I took, and with every decision I made. Ricky’s story raised my teaching bar. Most of all, I have never forgotten the lesson Ricky taught me, a blessed teacher.19. Which of the following words can best describe the author?A. Curious and helpful.B. Independent and creative.C. Tolerant and responsible.D. Courageous and professional.20. What did the author do when he found Ricky gazed out?A. He yelled at Ricky.B. He moved him away from the seat.C. He took Ricky to Mr. Overby.D. He asked Ricky to finish working first.21. Ricky thanked his teacher because his teacher .A. encouraged him a lot D. taught him to practice the instrumentC. discovered his musical talent B. made a difference in his lifeCGlobal GDP in 2030 will be 14% higher as a result of AI(Artificial Intelligence), thanks to improving labor productivity and increasing consumer demand, says a report. The report could increase the enthusiasm of economic policymakers and the public, and show the power of technology in changing not only people’s daily lives, but also economic activities. However, history tells us that, while technological advancements have brought us benefits, they have also led to great social disorders, by changing the production and labor structures, and forcing many workers to either adapt to the changes or lose their jobs. In the 18th century, for instance, skilled workers rose up to resist the Industrial Revolution, destroying machinery in the early 19th century. We may not see similar protests today, but history should serve as a warning against the application of AI technology. While we may gain a lot of benefits from AI, we must work out plans to reduce its negativeeffect on society, especially for workers. AI can raise productivity and expand GDP, but it can also make non-adaptive workers jobless. In India, some technology personnel have already felt the negative effect of information technology. As technology industries across the world seek increasing support from automation(自动操作), robotics and big data analysis, some technology workers have already lost their jobs.In their 2013 research study, Michael Osborne and Carl Frey from Oxford University estimated 47% of the jobs in the United States are “at risk” of being automated in the next 20 years. They said jobs in transportation and office and administrative support are at high risk of being automated. And Kaifu Lee recently said that robots could take away about 50% of all jobs from humans in the next decade. Those estimates may sound sensational and the impact of technological advancements may not be that serious, as they will also create jobs in new industries. However, policymakers should consider how to better embrace the technological wave to bring benefits while taking action to minimize its negative effects. The government therefore needs to work together with business leaders and social organizations, to promote training programs for potentially helpless workers, in order to make them more capable of adapting to the structural changes in industries and job markets in the future.22. Paragraph 2 mainly wants to tell us that technological advancements have ________.A. brought us a lot of benefitsB. improved our daily livesC. caused some social problemsD. led to great unemployment23. We can learn from the passage that ________.A. the government should discover people’s potentialsB. technology workers are more likely to survive AI technologyC. we should take action to meet the challenge of the AI technologyD. most workers are willing to accept the changes brought by AI technology24. The underlined word “sensational” in the last paragraph probably means______.A. shockingB. powerfulC. inspiringD. wonderful25. The passage is intended to ________.A. warn us against the negative effects of AI technologyB. present the good and bad effects of AI technologyC. inform us of the development of AI technologyD. a rouse people’s enthusiasm for AI technology第二节(共10小题; 每小题1.5分, 共15分)Read the following passage and then answer the questions. When thinking back to an experience that has affected me the most, I can’t hel p but recall the first time I performed for a crowd with my band.As I stood in the dark, in front of 300 people, my head began to pound and my eyes began to hurt from straining to see the faces before me. No matter how many times I wiped off my hands, they were covered with sweat, making them fumble across the strings of my guitar. Then, in a flash, the spotlights were turned on and the crowd yelled. My heart raced and I knew that the night of my first concert would be exciting and memorable. The concert was held annually at Frank's school. Being the largest activity for the students in the spring, we were told to expect the whole school to come to see us play. That fact went over and over in my mind. True, I had played in the school band in concerts for many people, but that was with a large group and I had sat in the back. Here it was just the three of us, all up front. I had had different visions of what performing would be like, but what ended up happening was a pleasant surprise.During the first song, the crowd stood in a mixed state of confusion and excitement. I could see nothing but their dark shapes, some swaying to the beat of the bass drum, othersstanding still, examining our every move. The song ended with hesitant applause.Glancing at Frank, the guitarist and singer, I read a message in his eyes. "I don't think they like us." His look pierced through my heart and I almost left the stage, yet kept going anyway. The second and third songs went the same way with the crowd looking at us like monkeys in a zoo. But then the magic started. Our fourth song we had was written for the occasion and it was as if it were the beginning of a trip that we would take with the crowd of onlookers. The funk bass and driving drums seemed to pick these people up like puppets and do with them what they pleased. The crowd danced and jumped and clapped, in and out of beat. Our music was giving these people a reason to lose their inhibitions and for a short time, enjoy themselves. By the end of the second to last song the crowd was at our mercy. Finally creating a situation that I had only dreamed of, during the last song the crowd began to sing the words. But it was not just any song, it was a song we had written. This sent my heart racing and I couldn't help smiling and even laughing. The song ended and an echoing roar came over the crowd. The concert was to me part of a childhood dream. My friends and I were responsible for giving 300 people a good time for an evening. They sang my words and they hummed my tune, and all helped to make the dream come true. That night back in my room, I sat up all night. I saw the bodies dancing in front of me and heard their screams. Even though I may perform in college and in the future, this feeling is one I may never feel again.Questions 26 to 30.
