(2019年6月浙江卷) Parents everywhere praise their kids. Jenn Berman, author of The A to Z Guide to Raising Happy and Confident Kids, says, “We’ve gone to the opposite extreme of a few decades ago when parents tended to b e more strict.” By giving kids a lot of praise, parents think they’re building their children’s confidence, when, in fact, it may be just the opposite. Too much praise can backfire and, when given in a way that’s insincere, make kids afraid to try new thin gs or take a risk for fear of not being able to stay on top where their parents’ praise has put them.Still, don’t go too far in the other direction. Not giving enough praise can be just as damaging as giving too much. Kids will feel like they’re not good enough or that you don’t care and, as a result, may see no point in trying hard for their accomplishments. So what is the right amount of praise? Experts say that the quality of praise is more important than the quantity. If praise is sincere and focused on the effort not the outcome, you can give it as often as your child does something that deserves a verbal reward. “We should especially recognize our children’s efforts to push themselves and work hard to achieve a goal,” says Donahue, author of Parenting Without Fear: Letting Go of Worry and Focusing on What Really Matters. “One thing to remember is that it’s the process not the end product that matters.”Your son may not be the best basketball player on his team. But if he’s out there every day and playing hard, you should praise his effort regardless of whether his team wins or loses. Praising the effort and not the outcome can also mean recognizing your child when she has worked hard to clean the yard, cook dinner, or finish a book report. But whatever it is, praise should be given on a case-by-case basis and be proportionate (相称的) to the amount of effort your child has put into it. One possible version:Pra ising can build up children’s confident, while too much praise may have opposite e ffects on children. (要点1) Besides, less praise also does harm to kids’ development. (要点2) To gain the best result, our praise should be sincere and focus on the process instead of the end product. (要点3) In a word, praise should be in line with facts and ma tch the children’s efforts. (要点4)(2018年11月浙江卷) It’s a really good idea to visit colleges before you apply because their websites can all start to look and sound the same. Nothing will give you the sense of what it will actually be like to live on a college campus (校园) like visiting and seeing for yourself the dorms, classrooms and athletic equipment and, of course, the students. It seems a little crazy once senior year hits to find the time to visit college campuses, and it can also be pricey if the schools you are applying to happen to be more than a car ride away. But keep in mind that you are making a decision about the next four years of your life, and do all the research you can to make sure you are making the right one. There’s no excuse not to visit the schools in your local area. In fact, a lot of college applications even ask if you have visited campus, and obviously, if you live across the country that won’t be as much of a possibility, but if you live nearby, go check it out!If campus visits aren’t going to happen before you apply, at the very least you should findattend. It can save you a lot of heartache if you rule out now the things t hat you don’t like about certain campuses, things that you wouldn’t know unless you actually visit. Now, if time and money are making it impossible, then check out the online college fairs at CollegeWeekLive. It’s a chance to chat online with admissio ns officers, students, and college counselors (顾问), and it won’t cost you a penny! You can register for its online college fair at . While visiting an online college fair can’t take the place of an actual campus visit, it can be a very useful tool that along with all your other research will help you make an informed decision about which colleges or universities you’d like to attend. One possible version:It is a wise choice for you to pay a visit to your desired colleges personally before applying. (要点1) In order to avoid being regretful, you should at least visit the college you decided to attend in advance. (要点2) For students who are short of money and time, it will be helpful to search the online college fairs at CollegeWeekLive where you can get the necessary information. (要点3)(考试说明样题) Getting rid of dirt, in the opinion of most people, is a good thing. However, there is nothing fixed about attitudes to dirt.In the early 16th century, people thought that dirt on the skin was a means to block out disease, as medical opinion had it that washing off dirt with hot water could open up the skin and let ills in. A particular danger was thought to lie in public baths. By1538, the French king had closed the bath houses in his kingdom. So did the king of England in 1546. Thus began a long time when the rich and the poor in Europe lived with dirt in a friendly way. Henry IV, King of France, was famously dirty. Upon learning that a nobleman had taken a bath, the king ordered that, to avoid the attack of disease, the nobleman should not go out.Though the belief in the merit (好处) of dirt was long-lived, dirt has no longer been regarded as a nice neighbor ever since the 18 century. Scientifically speaking, cleaning away dirt is good to health. Clean water supply and hand washing are practical means of preventing disease. Yet, it seems that standards of cleanliness have moved beyond science since World War II. Advertisements repeatedly sell the idea: clothes need to be whiter than white, cloths ever softer, surfaces to shine. Has the hate for dirt, however, gone too far?Attitudes to dirt still differ hugely nowadays. Many first-time parents nervously try to warn their children off touching dirt, which might be responsible for the spread of disease. On the contrary, Mary Ruebush, an American immunologist (免疫学家), encourages children to play in the dirt to build up a strong immune system. And the latter (后者) position is gaining some ground. One possible version1:People have mixed opinions towards dirt on our skin. (要点1) For a long time in history, people of some European countries, such as France, believed that dirt protected people from getting ill. (要点2) However, people began to change their attitudes to dirt about 200 years ago. People have been told that washing dirt off our body can keep us healthy. (要点3) However, some scientists believe that exposure to some dirt may help our immune system. Attitudes towards dirt have been changing over time. In the 16th century, people believed that dirt on the skin helped protect against disease. Since the 18th century, however, people have developed the belief that cleaning away dirt can prevent disease. Today, although attitudes to dirt still differ sharply, more and more people choose to believe that playing in the dirt can help build up a strong immune. Attitudes towards dirt have been changing代替原文第一段的第二句话there is nothing fixed about attitudes to dirt;要点2用protect against disease 代替block out against;要点3中用prevent disease代替is good for health;要点4用today代替nowadays,用sharply 代替hugely,用more and more people choose to believe 代替gaining some ground;(5)全文60词,非常符合词数要求。

I pulled the car into the garage and got out, just like every night for the past16 years. The difference was that I wouldn’t have a job to take in the morning.I used to be a VP in technology for a national bank until it was closed.I’d put my heart and soul into my job. Not only did I work long hours, but I was on call 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays. My kids joked that though they were the teenagers, I was the one who was glued to the cell phone and had to be told not to text at the dinner table. My wife, Michelle, went back to work full-time once my job was threatened. But our kids would be going to college — our son, TJ, was a high school senior, and the girls, Sarah and Tara, were in ninth grade —and I wanted to give them the education and opportunities they deserved. God, if I can’t provide for my family, I asked, what good am I?A ray of light streamed through the window, as if beckoning(召唤) me. I opened the door and stepped out into our yard. The lawn, the maple tree planted when I was young and the flower beds were overrun with weeds. They needed pruning (修剪). Treasure this time. The thought came out of nowhere. But clear, clear as it could be. I shook my head. I couldn’t get distracted by random thoughts. The clock was ticking. I needed to get busy finding a new job.I went up to the house. "I’m sorry, Dad," TJ said. "I know how much your job meant to you." His concern was mir rored in the girls’ faces. Then Michelle added, "It’s going to be okay. We’ll get through this together. Maybe you should consider this time as a break. You deserve one."A break? Was she kidding? There was no time to rest. If anything, I needed to work even harder.

Being a Kid is Fun and Games!Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm 8 years old. I love being a kid - we get to have so much fun and play all kinds of cool games! Today I want to tell you all about the big test that the older kids have to take called the Gaokao. It's a really important English exam that kids in their last year of high school have to write. Even though it sounds boring for an adult test, I'm going to make it super fun by describing it just like one of my favorite games! The Gaokao English writing part is kind of like an amazing adventure story where you get to be the author. The kids have to write a whole book report or movie review or letter to a friend, but without any help! No guidebooks, maps or walk-throughs allowed. They are all on their own just like a brave explorer in the wilderness.First up, they get instructions on the type of story they need to write. It could be describing their favorite book characters and plot. Or giving their opinion on the best and worst parts of a new movie. Or even making up a totally new tale by writing a letter about an exciting day they had. Those directions are like the opening cutscene that sets up the quest they are about to go on.Once they know their mission, it's time to start their adventure and put pencil to paper! The kids need to construct their story world, come up with all the dialogue for their characters, decide on a setting and storyline, and make sure everything flows together cohesively. Just like an open-world game, they have total freedom to create whatever they can dream up, as long as they stick to the central objective given at the start. To win this writing challenge, the kids have to use all their creativity, vocabulary knowledge, grammar skills and storytelling ability. They need to craft characters that seem real and believable, with developed personalities and motivations. The plot has to be fun and engaging, with twists and turns that keep readers hooked. And of course, every good quest needs awesome action scenes and dramatic moments! The setting is also hugely important to transport readers to a rich, vibrant world. Whether it's a magic fairy forest, gritty sci-fi metropolis or bucolic countryside village, cool descriptive language is needed to make it feel alive. The kids have to describe smells, sights, sounds and textures vividly. And like any good game, the writing should have relatable themes and messages that players can take away. Maybe thereare lessons about friendship, persevering through hardship, appreciating nature or never giving up on your dreams. These themes need to be woven in naturally, not forced. As if crafting an amazing story from scratch wasn't hard enough, the kids also have to perfectly use all the gameplay mechanics of the English language system! They have to follow all the rules of grammar, vary their sentences, avoid repetition and pick the perfect vocabulary words to match the mood and tone. One tiny bug or glitch in the language code and it could ruin the entire experience for readers! Finally, when the kids turn in their epic masterpiece stories, they'll get scored by judges. The judging is like a Game Master reading through and scoring every part of their quest. They'll rate the plot for how exciting and unpredictable it was, the characters for how well they were developed, the language for accuracy and expressiveness, and the overall presentation for style and flair. Only the best writers who craft a perfect AAA story experience will get the high score! So as you can see, the Gaokao English writing is basically like getting to design your own awesome open-world adventure game or movie from top to bottom. The kids get to use their imagination to take readers on an epic journey full of emotion, action and creativity. While it's not as easy as pushing some buttons on a controller, writing lets you build entire realms straight from your mind!I don't know about you, but I think that sounds like a ton of fun. Even though I'm just a little kid now, I can't wait until I'm older so I can take the Gaokao and put my storytelling skills to the test. Maybe I'll write an epic fantasy tale about a young wizard boy who has to save his school from an evil dragon! Or a hilarious comedy about a dog that gets superpowers! The possibilities are endless.Anyway, that's my take on the big kid writing test, describing it as one of my favorite video game quests. Even though it involves a ton of hard work putting together grammar, plot, characters and everything else, it lets you tap into your boundless creativity. To me, that sounds like the perfect mix of fun and games! What did you think of my overview? Let me know if you have any other questions!。

On a bright, warm July afternoon,Mac Hollan,a primary school teacher, was cycling from his home to Alaska with his friends. One of his friends had stopped to make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on,and they would catch up with him soon.As Mac pedaled(骑行)along alone,he thought fondly of his wife and two young daughters at home.He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday. Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind hi m.“Man,that’s a big dog!”he thought. But when he looked to the side,he saw instantly that it wasn’t a dog at all,but a wolf, quickly catching up with him.Mac’s heart jumped. He found out his can of bear spray. With one hand on the bars,he fired the spray at the wolf.A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac’s relief,it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later,it was by his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac’s bike, tearing open his tent bag.He fired at the wolf a second time, and again,it fell back only to quickly restart the chase(追赶).Mac was pedaling hard now.He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to slow down.He saw a steep uphill climb before him.He knew that once he hit the hill,he’d be easy caught up and the wolf’s t eeth would be tearing into his flesh. At this moment,Paul and Becky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn’t think much of it when they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road.A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside a man on a bike.As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf.Mac heard a large vehicle behind him.He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a dozen yards away now.

Students who have used electronic cigarettes by the time they start ninth grade are more likely than others to start smoking traditional cigarettes and other tobacco products within the next year, according to a new study funded by the National Institutes of Health. Electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, deliver nicotine to the lungs by heating a liquid solution that contains nicotine and other chemicals to produce a spray that the user takes in.As part of a survey of substance use and mental health among high school students in Los Angeles, the study compared the start of tobacco use among 222 students who had used e-cigarettes, but not any other tobacco products, and 2,308 who had neither used e-cigarettes or any other tobacco products when initially surveyed at the start of ninth grade. The 2,530 students who initially reported never using tobacco underwent follow-up assessments after six and 12 months. Students were asked about lifetime and past six-month use of e-cigarettes or any other forms of tobacco products.During the first six months after being surveyed, 30.7 percent of those who had used e-cigarettes started using tobacco products, such as cigarettes, and cigars, compared to only 8.1 percent of those who hadnever used e-cigarettes. Over the following six months leading into the start of 10th grade, 25.2 percent of e-cigarette users had used tobacco products, compared to just 9.3 percent of nonusers.“While teen tobacco use has fallen in recent years, this study confirms that we should continue to closely watch teen smoking patterns,” said NIDA Director Nora D. V olkow, M.D. “Parents and teens should recognize that although e-cigarettes might not have the same harmful effects of regular cigarettes, they do carry a risk of addiction.”“Recreationa l e-cigarette use is becoming increasingly popular among teens who have never smoked tobacco,” said Adam M. Leventhal, Ph.D., the first author on the study. “While we cannot conclude thate-cigarette use directly leads to smoking, this research raises concerns that recent increases in youth e-cigarette use could ultimately lead to the spread of smoking-related illness."【参考答案】As indicated in a new study, early exposure to e-cigarettes may trigger tobacco smoking in teens.(要点一) Comparison of tobacco use initiationbetween students with e-cigarettes experiences and those nonusers has been made, the result of which reveals a significant increase of smoking tendency in the former. (要点二、三) With the prevalence of e-cigarettes, it’s worth paying attention to teens’ smoking patterns and considering the detrimental effects possibly exerted by e-cigarettes. 第三讲概要写作李仕才典例展示(2016·浙江高考样题)阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Getting rid of dirt,in the opinion of most people,is a good thing. However, there is nothing fixed about attitudes to dirt.In the early 16th century, people thought that dirt on the skin was a means to block out disease,as medical opinion had it that washing off dirt with hot water could open up the skin and let ills in.A particular danger was thought to lie in public baths.By 1538,the French king had closed the bath houses in his kingdom. So did the King of England in 1546.Thus began a long time when the rich and the poor in Europe lived with dirt in a friendly way.Henry Ⅳ,King of France, was famously dirty.Upon learning that a nobleman had taken a bath, the King ordered that,to avoid the attack of disease, the nobleman should not go out.Though the belief in the merit(好处) of dirt was long-lived,dirt has no longer been regarded as a nice neighbor ever since the 18 century.Scientifically speaking, cleaning away dirt is good to health.Clean water supply and hand washing are practical means of preventing disease.Yet,it seems that standards of cleanliness have moved beyond science since World War Ⅱ.Advertisements repeatedly sell the idea: Clothes need to be whiter than white, cloths ever softer, surfaces to shine.Has the hate for dirt, however, gone too far?Attitudes to dirt still differ hugely nowadays. Many first-time parents nervously try to warn their children off touching dirt, which might be responsible for the spread of disease. On the contrary,Mary Ruebush,an American immunologist(免疫学家),encourages children to play in the dirt to build up a strong immune system. And the latter(后者) position is gaining some ground.【参考范文】People have mixed opinions about dirt on our skin.(要点1) For a long time in history, people of some European countries believed that dirt protected people from getting ill.(要点2) However, people began to change their attitudes towards dirt about 200 years ago.People have been told that washing dirt off our body can keep us healthy.(要点3) Yet,some scientists believe that exposure to some dirt may help our immune system.(要点4)思路导航一、审题二、要点分析1.文章第一段就是本篇文章的主题句,亮明了总的观点:“However,there is nothing fixed about attitudes to dirt.”换句话说:“Different people have different attitudes towards dirt.”再结合下文谈到的主题可知“Different people have different attitudes towards dirt on the skin.” 1“People have mixed opinions towards dirt on our skin.”

2.第二段主要谈到了在16世纪,人们认为“dirt on the skin was a means to block out disease”尤以英、法两国的贵族为代表。

结合第三段第一句“Though the belief in the merit(好处) of dirt was long-lived,dirt has no longer been regarded as a nice neighbor ever since the 18 century.”

2“For a long time in history, people of some European countries believed that dirt protected people from getting ill.”

3.第三段用“Though”引出人们对dirt观点的转变“...since the 18th century.Scientifically speaking, cleaning away dirt is good to health.” 3“However,people began to change their attitudes towards dirt about 200 years ago.People have been told that washing dirt off our body can keep us healthy.”4.

4“Yet,some scientists believe that exposure to some dirt may help our immune system.”

议论文可用以下开头语:①The passage/author argues that...本文/作者主张……②The passage/author highlights the importance of...

③The passage/author discusses the impact of...
