college,” she said,“since college is the best time of your life.”This was not the first time I’d heard such a statement, but with graduation fast coming close, her words especially struck me.It seemed a bit disappointing to reach one’s life peak at only 22 years of age,but in her opinion, college had been one of the best times in my life so far.I made friends, took classes, and learned a great deal about myself. But I was also excited for the time after college—moving to a new city, starting a new job,and becoming a “real” person.I hoped that my great dreams were practical. Then, last week I read a column in Real Simple Magazine called 100 Years of Attitude,in which women 100 years or older shared their life experiences and views.I noticed that none of them considered college as the “best” time of their life. Not all of them went to college, but still in most cases their teens and twenties were not the best times of their life. They said some of their favorite times were raising their children, traveling after retirement, and even enjoying their present time and age.Enjoying one’s present time and age was a clear theme of the interviews.A piece of advice given by the women was about the importance of making the best of all situations.I think it more accurate than that of my friend;I can say with certainty that if I am lucky enough to make it to 100.I refuse to spend the last 80 years of my life plummeting (跌落) downhill,or even leveling off.I am sure that our eagerness and devotion will make us college students live a meaningful life.We will not just look backwards or miss our college days.We will look forward in excitement about continued journey uphill.1.Which of the following opinions does the writer agree with?A.College is the best time of one’s life.B.Twenties were the best time of the old people.C.One should make the best of all situations.D.One should not look backwards at their college time.2.In the second paragraph, the writer wants to say________.A.her achievements in college would be the peak of her success B.she is looking forward to living as a “real” person in college C.she becomes more and more uneasy with graduationD.she is satisfied with the college life but is hopeful for the future 3.The column the writer read is mainly about those oldwomen’s________.A.best time of life at youthB.life experiences and viewsC.different opinions about lifeD.favorite time with best friends4.By saying “I refuse to spend the last 80 years of my life plummeting downhill,or even leveling off” (in Paragraph 4),the writer really means________.A.she will not spend the rest of her time at collegeB.she will not just obtain a college level certificateC.she will not be satisfied with what she has already accomplished D.she will not be content with the life in the future5.Which of the following words can be used to describe the writer?A.Ambitious. B.Practical.C.Imaginative. D.Proud.B(2013·潍坊5月模拟)Rae and Bruce Hostetler not only work very hard, they also relax just as well.Numerous vacations help the couple to maintain their health and emotional wellbeingand it’s no surprise to health care professionals.“Rest, relaxation, and stress reduction are very important for people’s wellbeing and health. This can be accomplished through daily activities, such as exercise and meditation, but vacation is an important part of this as well,” said primary care physician Natasha Withers from One Medical Group in New York.Withers lists a decreased risk of heart disease and improved reaction time as some of the benefits from taking some time off.“We also know that the mind is very powerful and can help with healing,so a rested, relaxed mind is able to help the body heal better,” said Withers.Psychologists confirm the value of vacations for the mind.“The impact that taking a vacation has on one’s mental health is great,” said Francine Lederer,a clinical psychologist in Los Angeles who specializes in stress and relationship manage ment.“Most people have better life perspective and are more motivated to achieve their goals after a vacation, even if it is a 24hour timeout.” The trips could be good for their health, good for their family and good for their businesses. The online travel agency Expedia conducted a survey about vacation time in 2010,and according to their data the average American earned 18 vacation days—but only used 14 of them.France topped the list, withthe average worker earning 37 vacation days and using all but two of them.Americans’ responses may not be surprising in a culture where long hours on the job often are valued, but that’s not always good for the individual, the family or the employer.Psychologists have also found that people who don’t take enough time to re lax may find it harder to relax in the future.“Without time and opportunity to do this, the nerve connections that produce feelings of calm and peacefulness become weaker, making it actually more difficult to shift into lessstressed states,” Mulhern said.6.How did the author introduce the topic of the text?A.By making comparisons. B.By giving an example.C.By raising questions. D.By providing data.7.According to Natasha Withers, vacations can________.A.weaken reaction systemB.cure serious diseasesC.reduce the level of wellbeingD.decrease the risk of heart disease8.Expedia’s survey shows that Americans________.A.dislike family gatheringsB.have the shortest vacationC.enjoy as many vacations as the FrenchD.think much of spending long hours on the job9.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A.One should never wait to relax.B.Work and rest go against each other.C.Time and opportunity wait for no man.D.A relaxed mind determines everything.10.What is mainly talked about in the text?A.Ways to relax in one’s free time.B.The benefits of taking time off.C.Different opinions on holidays.D.The Hostetlers always on the go.课时作业(十七)Ⅰ.单项填空1.解析:考查交际用语。

Kids knew not to go into his yards to pick apples, because old Dawson, they said, would come after you with his gun.One Friday, 12-year-old Janet was walking out with her friend Amy. They had to go by Dawson’s house, but as they got close Janet saw him sitting on his front porch and suggested they cross over the street. Like most, she was scared of the old man.Amy said not to worry. When they got close enough, Dawson looked up with his usual frown(皱眉), butwhen he saw it was Amy, he gave a big smile.Amy smiled back and told him Janet was staying overnight with her and they were going to listen to music and play games. Dawson told them that sounded fun, and gave them each an apple.Later, Janet asked Amy, “Everyone says he’s the meanest man in town. How come he was so nice to us?”Amy explained that when she first started walking past his house he wasn’t very friendly, but she pretended he was wearing an invisible smile and so she always smiled. It took a while, but one day he half smiled back. After a while, he started smiling real smiles and then talked to her. She said he always offers an apple now, and is always very kind.If we remember that everyone wears an invisible smile, we too will find that most peoplecan’t resist our kindness after a while. We are always busy trying to achieve so much that we forget how simply we can bring cheer to ourselves and others. The main idea of the last paragraph is that _______.A. smiling is not difficult at allB. smiling can make our life differentC. we should bring more smiles to othersD. we should wear invisible smilesBIn the recent past there have been a number of amazing innovations in the world of 3D entertainment, from movie theater technology to what we see at home, to highly developed games. As time goes by and the technology becomes more and more affordable, it seems likely that viewing images with 3D glasses could become a part of day-to-day life for many. Now researchers say that might not be a good thing, as the dangers of 3D glasses come to light in research.3D glasses can reportedly be very unhygienic(不卫生的). Health officials in Italy recently confiscated (没收) 3D glasses that they claimed posed health risks because the 3D glasses weren’t cleaned properlybetween screenings. The other more obvious dangers of 3D glasses remain. Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley have found that viewing 3D movies with 3D glasses can strain the eyes by changing the relationship between the eyes and the brain. This can result in headaches and blurred vision, and it seems that the problem is particularly troubling for young children. Those who do experience these kinds of painful side effects should limit their 3D viewing, as long-term results haven’t been found. It seems certain that more expensive 3D glasses give you a better 3D experience, as cheaper glasses can create some shadowing. Getting a new pair of disposable(一次性的) glasses at the screening of a movie may be more hygienic, yet there is little evidence to provewhether high-quality 3D glasses are better for your vision and health in the long run. What should be done about the dangers of 3D? Well, the headaches and dizziness thatsome viewers experience can be reduced simply by lessening the amount of time spent using 3D technology, and those who experience the effects for a long period of time should consulttheir doctors.61. What is the text mainly about?A. The recent innovations in 3D entertainment.B. The dangers of viewing images with 3D glasses.C. How to choose 3D glasses properly.D. How to prevent the harm of 3D glasses.62. Health officials in Italy confiscated 3D glasses because ________.A. they were believed to be unhealthyB. they were too expensiveC. they were not of high qualityD. they were used too much63. What can we learn from the second paragraph?A. 3D glasses pose no threat to adults.B. The dangers of 3D glasses are not obvious.C. The side effects of 3D glasses can disappear quickly.D. Children should be especially cautious about using 3D glasses.64. We can infer from the third paragraph 3D glasses of high quality ______.A. pose no danger to your healthB. improve your eyesightC. are not necessarily safeD. are more hygienic65. How can we prevent the dangers of 3D?A. Limit the time of watching with 3D glasses.B. Wear high-quality 3D glasses.C. Clean 3D glasses now and then.D. Keep a distance from the screen.CDo you know what your child is going to do when the school bell rings at the end of the day? More than 14 million students leave school every afternoon and have nowhere to go, since they do not have access to affordable after-school opportunities. According to the National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center(NYVPRC), nine out of ten Americans think all youths should have access to after-school programs, but two-thirds of parents say they have trouble finding programs locally. The bad news is that the situation may be getting worse.After-school hours are the peak time for juvenile crimes and risky behaviors, including alcohol and drug use. The NYVPRC states that children who do not spend any time in after-school activities are 49 percent more likely to use drugs and 37 percent more likely to become a teen parent. Kids are also at the highest risk of becoming a victim of violence after school, particularly between the hours of 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The highest amount of juvenile crime occurs between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., when most children are dismissed from school. The NYVPRC defines after-school programs as safe and structured activities that offer children opportunities to learn new skills. The skills students learn can range from technology and math to reading and art. Some programs also offer opportunities for internship(实习), community service, or mentoring. These programs have been shown to improve academic achievement, as well as relieve the stresses on working families. A report by the U. S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Justice shows that students in after-school programs have fewer behavioral problems and more self-confidence, and can handle conflicts better than students who are not involved with these programs. In addition, according to the Harvard Family Research Project, after-school programs help students from low-income families overcome the inequities(不公平) they face in the school system.66. What is the theme of the passage?A. Prevention of juvenile crimes.B. Risks kids face after school.C. A research report on the stresses of students.D. The benefits of after-school programs.67. Complete the diagram by using the information for the passage. Write NO MORE THAN 3 WORDS for each answer.Experiencing bad dreams every night can be horrifying for anybody. Bad dreams can disturb the sleep and make a person feel stressed throughout the next day. That’s why one should take steps to stop them as soon as they become an everyday occurrence. Before knowing how to get rid of bad dreams, we need to understand what can result in them. Researcheshave shown that when a person is under some sort of physical or mental stress, he is more likely to get bad dreams and disturbed sleep. So, to stop bad dreams, it’s necessary to find out the causes of physical and mental stress in your life and remov e these. For instance, if you’re overworked, learn to take things slow. Don’t be ambitious to the point that it starts affecting your health.Besides, some trauma(损伤) that a person might have experienced recently or in the past which they’re unable to get over can make the person suffer from bad dreams. Death of a very close family member is often seen to be the reason behind recurrent nightmares. In such a case, taking therapy and dealing with the trauma is the only solution to stop bad dreams.Eating fatty and high-protein foods in dinner is also known to cause bad dreams in some people. So, bad dreams occurring because of these reasons can be stopped if the diet is changed. Taking a light dinner of soups and salad is the best, both for the health and for stopping disturbed sleep in some cases.Besides these, there are many other things a person can do to have a good night’s sleep. For example, your bedroom should be the most comfortable place in the world. So, get rid of all electronic gadgets including television. In addition, if you have negative thoughts, it can have side effects on the kind of dreams you have. So, from now on try to be a happy and positive person.Title: Bad Dreams为题,1.2. 你认为良好的师生关系应该是什么样的。

octopus was doing, but wondered if it was training for the World Cup.Though Rooman Luc of Belgium didn’t win the“Portrait”category, his photo, titled“Angry Seahorse”,is quite striking. The close-up shot of a seahorse staring strictly into the camera was named runner up(second place). He said he spent nearly an hour standing in knee-high water being bitten by mosquitos in order to get the picture. The have simple“vocal cords(声带)”and are programmed to sing and to listen to each other. The robots’unique warbling sounds(颤音)do not perfectly match the human voice, but each machine is exactly sharing music with the other in a new and unique way. Each robot is equipped with speakers, software that mimics the human voice,a mouth that opens as it “sings”,a microphone for ears, and a camera for eyes. The robots also move.Miranda hopes that by studying his robot vocalists,he can discover something about how and why humans create, perform, and listen to music. When the robots sing, first one robot makes six random sounds. Its partner responds with more sounds. The first robot analyzes the sounds to see if their sequences are similar. If they are,it nods its headand commits the sounds to memory, and the second robot notices and“memorizes”the musical sequence, too. If the first robot thinks the sounds are too different,it shakes its head and both robots ignore the sounds. Then the process continues.Miranda set up an experiment in which he left the two robots alone in his study for two weeks. When he returned, his little warblers had,by imitating each other, not only shared notes but combined them. The product of their cooperation was far from symphonic, but the robots had begun to combine the notes into their own self-developed“songs”.With the help of his warbling robots, one of Miranda’s goals is to create music that no human would ever compose.Miranda believes the robots are ideal for this purpose because they would not be influenced by any existing musical styles or rules.12.Which is closest in of music.C.Memorize a variety of music.D.Promote traditional musical forms.15.What is the text mainly about?A.Future robots.B.Special songs.C.Music by robots.D.Experiments by Miranda.Ⅱ.阅读七选五Learn in a way that works for youEveryone learns best in different ways.1Find a way that works for you and try to learn that way as much as you can. You’ll have more control over this when you study at home, but you can also talk to your teacher about adjusting how the lessons are taught to include more variety for different style learners. For example, have you noticed that it’s really easy for you to remember charts or pictures? This means you might be a visual learner.2An example of this would be if you drew yourself a chart to memorise the parts of speech.Maybe you’ve noticed that you have an easier time studying when you listen to music quietly or that you can’t remember what your teacher wrote on the board but you can“hear”what they said in your head as if they were in the room now.3It means you learn better with sound. An example of this would beif you record your teacher when they’re talking so that you can listen to it while you do your homeworkor study.Maybe you’ve noticed that, during a lesson, you feel like you still want to pay attention but you really need to stand up or move around.4This might mean that you are a kinesthetic learner(动觉学习者),which means you learn better when you’re doing things with your body.5A.This is called a learning style.B.Do pay attention when your teacher is talking.C.This means you might be an auditory learner.D.Maybe you pace around your room while you study.E.Therefore,you should use more images and pictures in order to learn.F.Try playing with a piece of clay in your hand while your teacher talks.G.Just write down the most important things and the Ⅱ.读后续写Rescue in a BottleCurtis Whitson had rafted(乘筏)down the Arroyo Seco,a river in central California, several times before. This year,Curtis Whitson knew the water-fall was coming. He figured he would get out of his raft into the shallow water, get down the rocks along ropes on either side of the falls, and continue on his way,as he had on a previous trip. But this year was different.Heavy snow and spring rains had turned the usually manageable falls into something fierce. And this year, instead of his friends,Whitson’s companions were his girlfriend,Krystal Ramirez, and his13-year-old son,Hunter. As the three of them approached the falls late in the afternoon of the third day of their camping trip,Whitson could tell from the increasing roar of water in the narrowing canyon(峡谷)that they were in serious trouble. There was no way they’d be able to get down the rocks as planned.“The water was just roaring through there with tremendous force,”recalls Whitson,45.They had no smart phone service, and they hadn’t seen a single person in the past three days. And Whitson knew that they’d be sharing the ground there with rattlesnakes and mountain lions. As he was thinking what to do,Whitson hit on a bit of luck—he heard voices coming from the other side of the falls. He yelled, but the sound of the rushing water drowned him out.“We have to get these people a message,”Whitson thought. He grabbed a stick and pulled out his pocketknife to carve“Help”in it.Then he tied a rope to it so the people would know it wasn’t just any stick. He tried throwing it over the falls, but it floated away in the wrong direction.“We’ve got to do something!”Whitson yelled to his son.“Have we got anything else?”Then he spotted his water bottle.Whitson grabbed it and carved“Help!”on it.Ramirez also reminded him that he had a pen and paper in his backpack.Whitson knew it was a slim hope. But he wrote“6-1519:00We are stuck here@the waterfall.Get help please”and pushed the note into the bottle. This time, his throw over the waterfall was perfect.“All right, that’s all we can do,”Whitson told Hunter.注意:续写词数为150左右。
