Introduction
Jingmen’s location in Hubei Province
Jingmen, lying at the western bank of the Han River, is located in the central part of Hubei Province. It borders Xiaogan to the east, Jingzhou to the south, Yichang to the west and Xiangfan to the north. Wuhan, the provincial capital of Hubei, is situated 217 km from the city. Jingmen has a population of 3 million, and with the area of 1.24 square kilometers.
Economic Features
In 2011, Jingmen's GDP grew 15.6% from a year earlier to RMB 94.26 billion (USD 14.98 Billion) and the growth rate ranks fourth among 13 prefecture and prefecture-level cities in the province.
Infrastructure:
The city is easily accessible by air, rail and highway. It is 115 km from Yichang International Airport and 245 km from Wuhan Tianhe International Airport. The Taiyuan-Macau Highway, the Hangzhou-Lanzhou Highway, the Jingmen-Wuhan Highway, the Changjiangbu –Jingmen Railway and the Jiaozuo-Liuzohu Railway go through the city, linking the city with other major domestic cities.
Moreover, Jingmen is the point of intersection of North-to-South electric power
diversion and West-to-East electric power diversion. The urban construction in Jingmen is under a rapid development. The construction covers an area more than 50km2. The rate of green coverage is 45.7%.
Natural Resources:
The city is rich in natural resources. The plaster stone, ground phosphorous rock, dolomite and limestone resources all rank the top in Hubei province.
Agriculture:
Agricultural development in Jingmen enjoys superiority. Jingmen is one of the most important production bases of commodity grain, cotton and oil in China. In 2012 report on the work of the Hubei People’s Government, the provincial government clearly put foreward to support Jingmen in its efforts to construct “China’s Agricultural Valley”.

Jingmen's history can be traced back to the Han Dynasty, when Dangyang County was set up in the region. Jingmen got its current name in 805 AD during the Tang Dynasty, when Jingmen County was founded. In 1983, Jingmeng was promoted to be prefecture-level city in Hubei by the State Council.
Jingmen city is one of the earliest original places of Chu culture. It has been listed as the famous historical and cultural city by Hubei government. Zhongxian city, which is under Jingmen’s jurisdiction, is a famous historical and cultural city. Among those, there are many key historical and cultural sites under the government’s protection. Qujialing cultural relic has a history of 4,600 years. The Ming Tombs are accredited as “the underground treasure house of Chu culture”, and are also the biggest tombs
