鲁宾逊漂流记(英文版)

In Robinson Crusoe, Defoe traces the growth of Robinson from a naïve and artless (simple, innocent) youth into a shrewd and hardened (strong-minded) man, tempered by numerous trials in his eventful life. The realistic account of the successful struggle of Robinson single-handedly against the hostile nature forms the best part of the novel. Robinson is here a real hero: a typical eighteenth-century English middle-class man, with a great capacity for work, inexhaustible energy, courage, patience and persistence in overcoming obstacles, in struggling against the hostile natural environment. He is the very prototype of the empire builder, the pioneer colonist.

Chapter 1My first sea journey(1)Before I begin my story, I would like to tell you a little about myself.I was born in the year 1632, in the city of York in the north of England. My father was German, but he came to live and work in England. Soon after that, he married my mother, who was English. Her family name was Robinson, so, when I was born, they called me Robinson, after her.My father did well in his business and I went to a good school. He wanted me to get a good job and live a quiet, comfortable life. But I didn't want that. I wanted adventure and an exciting life.'I want to be a sailor and go to sea,' I told my mother and father. They were very unhappy about this.'Please don't go,' my father said. 'You won't be happy, you know. Sailors have a difficult and dangerous life.' And because I loved him, and he was unhappy, I tried to forget about the sea.But I couldn't forget, and about a year later, Isaw a friend in town. His father had a ship, andmy friend said to me,'We're sailing to Londontomorrow. Why don't you come with us?'And so, on September 1st, 1651, I went to Hull, and the next day we sailed for London. But, a few days later, there was a strong wind. The sea was rough and dangerous, and the ship went up and down, up and down. I was very ill, andvery afraid.'Oh, I don't want to die!' I cried. 'I want to live! If I live, I'll go home and never go to sea again!'The next day the wind dropped, and the sea was quiet and beautiful again. The wind wasn't too bad.''Well, Bob,' my friend laughed. 'How do you feel now? The wind wasn't too bad.''What!" I cried. 'It was a terrible storm.''Oh, that wasn't a storm,' my friend answered. 'Just a little wind. Forget it. Come and have a drink.'After a few drinks with my friend, I felt better. I forgot about the danger and decided not to go home. I didn't want my friends and family to laugh at me!I stayed in London for some time, but I still wanted to go to sea. So, when the captain of a ship asked me to go with him to Guinea in Africa, I agreed. And so I went to sea for the second time.It was a good ship and everything went well at first, but I was very ill again. Then, when we were near the Canary Islands, aTurkish pirate ship came after us. They werefamous thieves of the sea at that time. There was along, hard fight, but when it finished, we and theship were prisoners. The Turkish captain and his men took us to Salleein Morocco. They wanted to sell us as slaves in themarkets there. But in the end the Turkish captain decided to keep me for himself, and took me home with him. This was a sudden and terrible change inmy life. I was now a slave and this Turkish captain was my master.Chapter 2 Down the coast of AfricaFor two long years I lived the life of a slave. I worked in the house and the garden, and every day I planned to escape, but it was never possible. I thought about it day and night. My master liked to go fishing in a little boat, and he always took me with him. A man called Moely, and a young boy also went with us.One day my master said to us, 'Some of my friends want to go fishing tomorrow. Get the boat ready.' So we put a lot of food and drink on the boat, and the next morning, we waited for my master and his friends. But when my master arrived, he was alone.'My friends don't want to go fishing today,' he said to me.'But you go with Moely and the boy, and catch some fish for our supper tonight.''Yes, master,' I answered quietly, but inside I wasexcited.'Perhaps now I can escape,' I said to myself. My master went back to his friends and we tookthe boat out to sea. For a time we fished quietly, and then I moved carefully behind Moely andknocked him into the water.'Swim!' I cried. 'Swim to the shore!'My master liked to shoot seabirds and so there were guns on the boat. Quickly,I took one of these guns. Moely was swimming after the boat and I shouted to him:'Go back to the shore! You can swim there - it's not too far. I won't hurt you, but if you come near the boat, I'll shoot you through the head!' So Moely turned, and swam back to the shore as quickly as he could. Then I said to the boy, 'Xury, if you help me, I'll be a good friend to you. If you don't help me, I'll push you into the sea too. 'But Xury was happy to help me. T'll go all over the world with you,' he cried.I wanted to sail to the Canary Islands, but I was afraid to go too far from the shore. It was only a small boat. And so we sailed on south for some days. We had very little water, and it was dangerous country here, with many wild animals. We were afraid, but we often had to go on shore to get more water. Once I used a gun to shoot a wild animal. I don't know what animal it was, but it made a good meal. For about ten or twelve days we sailed on south, down the coast of Africa. Then one day we saw some people on the shore - strange, wild people, who did not look friendly. By now we had very little food, and we really needed help. We were afraid, but we had to go on shore. At first, they were afraid of us, too. Perhaps white people never visited this coast. We did not speak their language, of course, so we used our hands and faces to show that we were hungry. They came with food for us, but then they moved away quickly. We carried the food to our boat, and they watched us. I tried to thank them, but I had nothing to give them.Just then two big wild cats came down to the shore from the mountains. I thinkthey were leopards. The people were afraid of these wild cats, and the women cried out. Quickly, I took a gun, and shot one of the animals. The second wild cat ran back up into the mountains.Guns were new to these African people, and they were afraid of the loud noise and the smoke. But they were happy about the dead wild cat. I gave them the meat of the dead animal, and they gave us more food and water. We now had a lot of food and water, and we sailed on. Eleven days later we came near the Cape Verde Islands. We could see them, but we couldn't get near because there was no wind. We waited.Suddenly Xury called to me, 'Look, a ship!'He was right! We called and shouted and sailed our little boat as fast as we could. But the ship did not see us.Then I remembered the guns which made a lot of smoke.A few minutes later the ship saw us and turned. When we were on the ship, the Portuguese captain listened to my story. He was going to Brazil and agreed to help me, but he wanted nothing for his help. 'No,' he said, when I tried to pay him. 'Perhaps, one day, someone will help me when I need it.'But he gave me money for my boat, and for Xury, too. At first, I did not want to sell Xury as a slave, after all our dangerous adventures together. But Xury was happy to go to the captain, and the captain was a good man. 'In ten years' time,' he said, 'Xury can go free.'When we arrived in Brazil three weeks later, I said goodbye to the captain and Xury, left the ship, and went to begin a new life.。

Bed time ReadingRChapter oneI live in England. I was born in 1632 in the English city of York. I came from a good family who were from highland. My father is a merchant left when he was young. His business did very well in England. First he worked in a city of and then in York. In York he met and married my mother. Before she married my father, her name was Ms. R?. And I was named R? ? after her. Unfortunately the English people in York found it was too difficult to my ? name ?, so they began to call my family ? and so today I’m ?. I was the third son of the family. But at the time my story begins, I was the only one left. My eldest brother was a soldier and was killed fighting this ?. My other brother disappeared. We do not know what happened to him.Although my father’s business was doing well, I feel that the life of marchers was not very interesting. I wanted to go to sea and have a life of adventure, seeing the oceans and exploring new countries.“R?, you can’t go.” My father cried when I talked him my plans. “But, father. There is nothing for me to do here. I want to see the world.”I said.“How can you say ‘there is nothing for you to do here’?”my father replied. “You can going to as I did and look how well I have done.”“Father, I’m not good at this business.” I said. I didn’t want to tell him that being a merchant is boring.“R?.” said my father, “Wait for a year. I will do all I can to teach you how to be a good businessman. If after one year, you still want to go sea, I will let you go.”It seemed as though he was begging me to stay. Perhaps he was afraid losing another son. At that time I was 17 years old, young and full of energy. A year seemed like a long time to me. But I agreed to stay because I did not want to upset my father. During that year I studied hard and trying to learn about business. But it was no use. Perhaps I was born with ocean water my wings stay blood. I simply had to go to sea. But after a year had passed, my father still would not let me go. Father was a quite serious man and he had many strong opinions. He told that life at sea was and only for very poor or very rich who were probably all crazy any way. “It is likely”he said, “That if you go to the sea you will be drowned or a man before money is gone. My family is in a middle position. Neither very poor nor very rich.” My father thought this is the best kind of family to belong to. I decided to ask my mother for help. She was a wonderful woman and had always understood me. “Mother,” I said, “I still want to go to sea. Please help me to convince father that I will be all right.” She looked at me straightly. “R?, you know what your father ?a life of sea?”“Please mother.” I cried. I was . “Asking let me go forjust one year. If after one year I don’t like that sea I will come home and become the best businessman in the family, I promise.” Mother looked at me for a moment, “R?,” she said, “I will tell your father what you have told me. But you must understand that I can not change his mind.” When she spoke to father, but he still not let me go.Three weeks after this, my 19th birthday came. Just after this, I decided to go to the city of for a few days. I wanted to get away from my life of business in York. I sent by the ?, watching the ships go up to sea. The ocean shine brightly and gold some light. How I wish I could be one of the sailors. I dreamed of standing at front of the ship, feeling the wind on my face when we travel to strange and mysterious lands. It seemed it would never happen now.I was feeling sad than ever. When the voice went to my thoughts. “WHY? It’s R? ?. What are doing here in ??” I looked around and saw Tom ?, a old friend of mine standing before me. “Tom!”I said, jumping up to shake his hand, “How are you?”“I’d better not met.”He said. “We should see the meeting with a glass of beer. Come on, this is ?over there.”I said. “Unfortunately I can’t.”?“I’m sailing to London at my father’s ship.”“Your father’s ship? That sound exciting.”I said. Tom smiled: “R?. You should come with me. You look like have nothing to do.I cost some money and you see. Send my father and mother a letter Telling them what I about to do and in September I left England to goto sea.Chapter twoMy First Days at SeaWell. It wasn’t long before I wished I had stayed on land after a only few hours at sea, raining and wind ?. The winds ? the ship like a toy. “Are you all right, R??” Tom had to shout to be heard the terrible wind. “No. I think I’m going to be sick.” I cried. “I had never sea seconds before and I was miserable.” It’s a punishment from god. I never should disobey father.I thought I felt sicker and sicker. The weather got worse. The wind blew and lighting the water. I felt surely I was going to die. “Please god!” I prayed, “I you save me to go home and work hard business with my father, I will never step upon a ship again.”Fortunately the storm soon ended. Evening came and the stars ? brightly in the clear sky. The wind stopped and the water became calm. I slept deeply. The next morning it was a beautiful day. The water was a sparking blue in the sun shine. As we sailed into the south I forgot all about my fears about the storm. I stood on the ship and watched the English coast pass us by, and I felt all the world is mine. I could go anywhere and do anything. Time I became friends with the rest of the men and none of them offered some ?. It wasn’t before we wanted another drink than another, soon they all happily drunk and singing sea songs.A few days later, we near the English city of . Looking at the clouds in the sky, we saw we are heading into another storm. But I wasn’t afraid. But this storm made the storm I saw on my first day at sea look like a soft gentle rain. For the days the storm went on. For days the waves rose high above us throwing us those way in that. The thunder in fresh lit up the sky.Because of the terrible wind and rain, we could not stay on the ship’s deck for more then five minutes. This time I was not the only one who was afraid. Even Tom looked terrified and he had been sailing all his life. when one man said that he hadn’t seen the ?storm in his life, the others agreed with him. We were gathered in the room below the deck. “I wonder how long the storm is going to last for?” said one man. Just then there was a loud breaking sound and water started coming to the cab from a hole in the wall. “Get to the ?, the water will drown us all.” Someone cried. A few seconds later, I was water as if I wasn’t in danger which of course it was. It seemed the more water we tried to remove, the more water came through the hole into the ship. This is even worse than the storm. “? it faster boys, faster.” The captain shouted. But it became clear the water was coming faster we could move it, the captain went to his cabin and came back with some fire works. In all that rain and wind, he was able to lgiht one. We watched the fire work went out into the air. “Please god.” Cried the man named , “Let someone see out signals.” Itseemed god wasn’t going to answer . It look like all about to die, when someone shouted: “Look! A ship!”in a distance we saw a ship was sailing along. The storm is too terrible for the ship to send a boat to rescue us.” The captain cried. But luckily for us, they did it. The man in the other ship sent one of their boats and went beside our breaking ship, we climbed to it. Tom’s father was waiting for us one land on a few days later. After he had heard our exciting story, he said to me: “R?. I don’t think you should go to sea again, it’s very hard life. If you do, you will find nothing but disaster, disappointment and who knows what else.”He handed me some money. “Here, take this money and go back to York.”。

1Robinson Crusoe was born into a respectable merchant family, eager to sail, and wanted to see abroad. He went out to London with his father, and went to London to buy some fake beads and toys to do business in Africa. On the fourth voyage, the ship was caught in a storm on the way, and all the shipmates were killed, but Robinson survived and drifted to a lonely island. He used the mast of the sunken ship to make a raft, and again and again brought the food, clothes and guns and ammunition to the shore, and set up his tent on the hill to settle down. Then he used sharpened stakes to fence around the tent and dig in after the tent. He used simple tools to make furniture such as tables, chairs and other furniture, hunting game for food, drinking fresh water in the stream, and passing through the initial difficulties. He began to grow barley and rice on the island, and made his own wooden mortar, pestle, sieve, and flour, and baked rough bread. He captured and domesticated wild goats to breed. He also made pottery and so on, which ensured his life. A "country house" and a farm have been built on the other side of the desert island. Even so, Robinson has not given up on finding a way to leave the island. He cut down a big tree and spent five or six months making it into a canoe, but the boat was too heavy for him to pull down, so he had to abandon it and rebuild a smallboat. After living alone on the island for 15 years, Crusoe found a footprint on the shore of the island. Before long, he found traces of human bone and fire, where a group of wild men had held a meat feast. Robinson was amazed. Since then, he has been vigilant, paying more attention to things around him. Until the 24th year, a group of savages came to the island, taking prisoners ready to kill and eat. Robinson found out and rescued one of them. Because it was Friday, Robinson named the rescued prisoner "Friday". After that, "Friday" became Robinson's faithful servant and friend. Next, Robinson rescued a Spanish man and Friday's father with Friday. Soon a British ship anchored near the island, the ship sailor insurgency, three people abandoned on the island, such as the captain and Robinson "Friday" help the captain overpowered the rebellion sailor, regain the ships. He left the sailors on the island, and returned to England with "Friday" and the captain. Robinson has been away from home for 35 years (28 years on the island). He married in England and had three children. After his wife's death, Robinson went out to sea again, on the deserted island where he had lived, and the sailors and spaniards who had stayed on the island had made their home. Crusoe sent some new settlers, gave them the land, and left them with all their daily necessities, and left the island with satisfaction. 鲁滨孙漂流记英文主要内容篇2The era of Defoe's life was the age when British capitalism began to develop on a large scale. In 1702, he was arrested and sentenced to three flails for his publication of "a shortcut to the elimination of different sects", which satirized the government's religious policies. After he got out of prison, he worked as an editor in the newspaper and wrote a number of political and economic pamphlets, and he was arrested three times for hisremarks. In 1719, Defoe published his first novel, Robinson Crusoe. The novel is based on the real experience of Alexander selkirk on a desert island. According to the British magazine reports: in April 1704, self kirk mutiny at sea, the captain left in more than 900 kilometers off the coast of Chile, Juan fernandez islands of massa jie, who is a small island. Four years and four months later, he was rescued by the navigator. At that time, selkirk had forgotten the human language and became a savage. Defoe was inspired by this and conceived the story of Robinson. But in the process of the creation of the novel, Defoe from one to the look and feel of the era of, during the bourgeois rise to adventure and enterprising spirit and the spirit of 18th century colonial shaped Robinson this image.鲁滨孙漂流记英文主要内容篇3It seemed to be such a coincidence that the night after I finished reading The Life And Adventures Of Robinson Crusoe, I was to dine in a restaurant distinctly related to the book itself. This restaurant was no other than the famous American-styled “Friday’s.” The reason for mentioning this restaurant is quite straightforward to all the gentlemen, ladies and children who have read the novel and enjoyed it, which is the fact that this restaurant was, most likely, named after the American Native in Robinson Crusoe, called Friday. This restaurant offers very exceptional service, for instance when the waitresses are asked to order dishes they kneel rather than stand, which, unlike the other restaurants I have been to, makes it easier for the customers to hear them speak. Moreover, Friday’s friendly services to the customers help them to make better choices when o rdering dishes. I remembered when I went to Friday’s last time;the waitress kindly described the items on the menu with precise details. It turned out that the combo I initially wanted was designed to be shared among a large group, not to be eaten by one person. I think this restaurant shows many commendable features similar to that of Friday. Friday brought emotional warmth to the people around him with his appealing personality.I think it was this personality that affected Crusoe and made him say that h e loved Friday when Crusoe didn’t express love for his parents, brothers, sisters, or even his wife. “When he espied me, he came running to me, laying himself down again upon the ground, with all the possible signs of an humble, thankful disposition, makin g many antic gestures to show it…to let me know how he would serve me as long as he lived.” This was what Friday did after Crusoe had rescued him from the two savages chasing him. It was easy for me to see why Crusoe had loved Friday. After sometime, Crusoe and Friday were to rescue Friday’s father. When Friday reunited with his father, the scene was easy to move anyone: “It would have moved anyone to tears to have seen how Friday kissed him, embraced him, hugged him, cried, laughed, halloed, jumped about, danced, sung; and then sung and jumped about again, like a distracted creature. It was a good while before I could make him speak to me.” This is my favourite chapter in the whole book. It is hard to see why Friday is an ex-savage when he can have personalities more praiseworthy than many civilized people, viz. Crusoe himself. “When he (Friday) went to him (Friday’s father), he would sit down by him, open his breast, and hold his father’s head close to his bosom, half an hour together, to nourish it; then he took his arms and ankles, which were numbed and stiff with the binding, and rubbed them with his hands.” Furthermore,Friday’s expression of loyalty in asking Crusoe to kill him rather than leave him is more heartfelt than anything Crusoe ever says or does.鲁滨孙漂流记英文主要内容篇4"Lubin sun Crusoe this book you certainly read. Summary of Robinson Crusoe 鲁滨孙漂流记简介中英双语Crusoe (the family name corrupted from the German name "Kreutznaer") sets sail from the Queen's Dock in Hull on a sea voyage in August 1651, against his parents' wishes, who want him to pursue a career, possibly in law. After a tumultuous journey where his ship is wrecked in a storm, his lust for the sea remains so strong that he sets out to sea again. This journey, too, ends in disaster as the ship is taken over by Salépirates(the SaléRovers) and Crusoe is enslaved by a Moor. Two years later, he escapes in a boat with a boy named Xury; a Captain of a Portuguese ship off the west coast of Africa rescues him. The ship is en route to Brazil. With the captain's help, Crusoe procures a plantation.Y ears later, Crusoe joins an expedition to bring slaves from Africa but he is shipwrecked in a storm about forty miles out to sea on an island (which he calls the Island of Despair) near the mouth of the Orinoco river on September 30, 1659. Only he and three animals, the captain's dog and two cats, survive the shipwreck. Overcoming his despair, he fetches arms, tools, and other supplies from the ship before it breaks apart and sinks. He builds a fenced-in habitat near a cave which he excavates. By making marks in a wooden cross, he creates a calendar. By using tools salvaged from the ship, and ones he makes himself, he hunts, grows barley and rice, dries grapes to make raisins, learns to make pottery, and raises goats. He also adopts a small parrot. He reads the Bible and becomes religious, thanking God for his fate in which nothing is missing but human society.年后,克鲁索加入探险从非洲带来的奴隶,但他是在一个暴风雨海难大约四十英里的大海在一个岛上(他称之为绝望的岛屿)附近的口奥里诺科河1659年9月30日。

But this novel has often been taken as an adventure story by common readers, while critics usually emphasize its portrayal of the capitalist ambition during the beginning stage of the development of capitalism. Both groups of readers tend to overlook its religious, spiritual and moral aspects, which take up a large proportion of the novel. This thesis seeks to explore the conflicts and also the possibility of reconciliation between two important sides of human existence as expressed in Robinson Crusoe: man as an economic being and man as a spiritualbeing, and concludes that, only under proper spiritual guidance can man achieve due material civilization with economic prosperity, while retaining a wholesome individuality. Therefore, through his adventures Robinson is also undergoing a pilgrim’s spiritual progress.读后感Robinson, a figure I admire the endless, he isworld-famous early explorers, his childhood love at sea, grew up, he went sailing with friends, but they all failed. Once again, his departure from Brazil, in the sailing event in a huge tsunami and storms, all the ship, unless he was a man, all were drowned, and he alone in that there is no human habitation in the island have lived entire twenty-eight years after month. Finally and some more experienced.people from outside the fighting, returned to Brazil. Reading this book, I have strong feelings that a person must have what kind of perseverance, before they can once again back on its feet from the failure; have the courage to what can a person live on that deserted island twenty-eight years after month. I think this is because he always had a firm belief, so he can overcome thedifficulties one by one to create a miracle. In real life, everyone will encounter many difficulties in this highly competitive society, the only thing we can do is to overcome those stumbling blocks, in the plight tenaciously survive, and only then, we have the potential to become a successful. Remember the phrase poems? "Wild fire entirely in spring life." It was grass, in the face of adversity a true portrayal of brave survive. Since even the grass can be, how can we not? Living life, it is important not to enjoy pleasure, but to endure the pain. Adversity is a stepping stone of success, of course, it is only for those who dare to claim to overcome the difficulties. Those cowardly people who will never have any real success. My friends, if I were him, and when the ship encountered the storm, I will do everything he did and go forward regardless? I think, maybe I will not, because I am too weak, fear of failure, because I covet your neighbor to the warmth of their parents, fear of living alone. If I were him, and when a person living on a desert island, I would like him to survive, as do the brave? I think Iwill not, because I do not have that capability, but also used by parents to bear all for me.If I were him, and when you see the savage with the opening dinner companion, I would like him the courage to stand out? I'm like, I will not. Because by then I will pray for his safe. All in all, all I have to admit their own weakness and incompetence. But everything will be after I read his story changed. I will learn to grow up a person, a person to face.Although there is a long path in life the pain of failure, but also the joy of success. As long as I believe that they can overcome the difficulties and the dawn of victorywill eventually come. And that has experienced trials and hardships of the rainbow will be even more brilliant!Robinson Crusoe is a youth of about eighteen years old who resides in Hull, England. Although his father wishes him to become a lawyer, Crusoe dreams of going on sea voyages. He disregards the fact that his two older brothers are gone because of their need for adventure. His father cautions that a middle-class existence is themost stable. Robinson ignores him. When his parents refuse to let him take at least one journey, he runs away with a friend and secures free passage to London. Misfortune begins immediately, in the form of rough weather. The ship is forced to land at Yarmouth. When Crusoe's friend learns the circumstances under which he left his family, he becomes angry and tells him that he should have never come to the sea. They part, and Crusoe makes his way to London via land. He thinks briefly about going home, but cannot stand to be humiliated. He manages to find another voyage headed to Guiana. Once there, he wants to become a trader. On the way, the ship is attacked by Turkish pirates, who bring the crew and passengers into the Moorish port of Sallee. Robinson is made a slave. For two years he plans an escape. An opportunity is presented when he is sent out with two Moorish youths to go fishing. Crusoe throws one overboard, and tells the other one, called Xury, that he may stay if he is faithful. They anchor on what appears to be uninhabited land. Soon they see that black people live there. These natives are very friendly to Crusoe and Xury. At one point, the two see a Portugueseship in the distance. They manage to paddle after it and get the attention of those on board. The captain is kind and says he will take them aboard for free and bring them to Brazil.Robinson goes to Brazil and leaves Xury with the captain. The captain and a widow in England are Crusoe's financial guardians. In the new country, Robinson observes that much wealth comes from plantations. He resolves to buy one for himself. After a few years, he has some partners, and they are all doing very well financially. Crusoe is presented with a new pro begin a trading business. These men want to trade slaves, and they want Robinson to be the master of the tradepost. Although he knows he has enough money, Crusoe decides to make the voyage. A terrible shipwreck occurs and Robinson is the only survivor. He manages to make it to the shore of an island.Robinson remains on the island for twenty-seven years. He is able to take many provisions from the ship. In that time, he recreates his English life, building homes, necessities, learning how to cook, raise goats and crops. He is at first very miserable, but embraces religion as a balm for his unhappiness. He is able to convince himself that he lives a much better life here than he did in Europe--much more simple, much less wicked. He comes to appreciate his sovereignty over the entire island. One time he tries to use a boat to explore the rest of the island, but he is almost swept away, and does not make the attempt again. He has pets whom he treats as subjects. There is no appearance of man until about 15 years into his stay. He sees a footprint, and later observes cannibalistic savages eating prisoners. They don't live on the island; they come in canoes from a mainland not too far away. Robinson is filled with outrage, and resolves to save the prisoners the next time these savages appear. Some years later they return. Using his guns, Crusoe scares them away and saves a young savage whom he names Friday.Friday is extremely grateful and becomes Robinson's devoted servant. He learns some English and takes on the Christian religion. For some years the two live happily. Then, another ship of savages arrives with three prisoners. Together Crusoe and Friday are able to save two of them. One is a Spaniard; the other is Friday's father. Their reunion is very joyous. Both have come from the mainland close by. After a few months, they leave to bring back the rest of the Spaniard's men. Crusoe is happy that his island is being peopled. Before the Spaniard and Friday's father can return, a boat of European men comes ashore. There are three prisoners. While most of the men are exploring the island, Crusoe learns from one that he is the captain of a ship whose crew mutinied. Robinson says he will help them as long as they leave the authority of the island in his hands, and as long as they promise to take Friday and himself to England for free. The agreement is made. Together this little army manages to capture the rest of the crew and retake the captain's ship. Friday and Robinson are taken to England. Even though Crusoe has been gonethirty-five years, he finds that his plantations have done well and he is very wealthy. He gives money to the Portuguese captain and the widow who were so kind to him. He returns to the English countryside and settlesdies, he once more goes to the sea.。

1 My first sea journey
1我的第一次海上旅行
Before I begin my story,I would like to tell you a little about myself.开始我的故事之前,我想先向你谈一点我自己的情况。

I was born in the year 1632,in the city of York in the north of England. My fatherwas German, but he came to live and work in England. Soon after that, hemarried my mother, who was English. Her family name was Robinson,so,whenI was born, they called me Robinson, after her.

'I want to be a sailor and go to sea,'I told my mother and father. They were veryunhappy about this.
“我想成为一名水手去航行,”我告诉父母亲。

他们对此很不高兴。

'Please don't go,'my father said. 'You won't be happy, you know. Sailors havea difficult and dangerous life. 'And be-cause I loved him,and he was unhappy,I tried to forget about the sea.
“不要去,”父亲说。

“你不会幸福的,你知道。

水手过着艰苦而且危险的生活。

”因为我爱父亲,他不高兴,我便试图忘掉大海。

但我不可能忘掉,大约一年后,我在镇里遇到一个朋友。

他的父亲有一艘船,我的朋友对我说,“明天我们航行去伦敦。

你为什么不和我们一起走呢?”
And so,on September 1st,1651,I went to Hull, and the next day we sailed forLondon.
于是,
1651年9月1日,我到了赫尔港,第二天我们驶向伦敦。

But,a few days later, there was a strong wind. The sea was rough anddangerous, and the ship went up and down,up and down. I was very ill, andvery afraid.
但是,几天后,刮起了狂风,狂暴的大海危机四伏,船不断颠簸。

我晕船晕得厉害,非常害怕。

'Oh,I don't want to die!'I cried. 'I want to live!If I live,I'll go home and nevergo to sea again!'
“哦,我不想死!”我哭喊起来。

“我想活着!假如我活着,我就要回家,再也不出海了!”The next day the wind dropped, and the sea was quiet and be autiful again.第二天,风停了,大海又重新恢复了平静而美丽。

'Well,Bob,'my friend laughed. 'How do you feel now?The wind wasn't too bad.'
“好了,鲍伯,”我的朋友笑着说。

“现在你感觉如何?这风并不太令人讨厌。

'What!'I cried. 'It was a terrible storm. '
“什么!”我大叫起来。

“这可是一场可怕的风暴。

'Oh,that wasn't a storm,'my friend answered. 'Just a lit-tle wind. Forget
e and have a drink. '
“哦,这不算风暴,”我的朋友回答。

“仅仅是小风而已。

忘记它吧,来,喝一杯。

”After a few drinks with my friend,I felt better. I forgot about the danger anddecided not to go home. I didn't want my friends and family to laugh at me!和朋
友喝了几杯,我感觉好多了。

我忘记了危险,决定不回家了。

我不愿意我的朋友和家人嘲笑我!
I stayed in London for some time, but I still wanted to go to sea. So,when thecaptain of a ship asked me to go with him to Guinea in Africa,I agreed. And soI went to sea for the second time.
我在伦敦停留了一段时间,但我仍然想去航行。

所以,当一位船长要求我和他一起去非洲的几内亚时,我答应了。

于是,我第二次去航海。

It was a good ship and everything went well at first, but I was very ill again. Then, when we were near the Canary Is-lands,a Turkish pirate ship came afterus. They were famous thieves of the sea at that time. There was a long, hardfight, but when it finished,we and the ship were prisoners.

The Turkish captain and his men took us to Sallee in Moroc-co. They wanted tosell us as slaves in the markets there. But in the end the Turkish captain decidedto keep me for himself, and took me home with him. This was a sudden andterrible change in my life. I was now a slave and this Turkish captain was mymaster.
