A new study by Japanese scientist Miho Nagasawa seems to have found the answer, and it has to do with something named the cuddle(拥抱)chemical. The cuddle chemical has another, more scientific name: oxytocin(催产素). Oxytocin is something in the blood that encourages bonding. Levels of oxytocin increase, for example, when a mother feeds her newborn baby. Accordi ng to Nagasawa’s study, levels of oxytocin can also go up when we look deeply into the eyes of a dog.Humans and dogs have been working together for nearly 30,000 years. In order to better understand how the cuddle chemical worked between dogs and humans, Nagasawa and his team did an experiment. They tested levels of oxytocin in dogs and humans, and then put them in a room to interact(交流)with each other. While in the room, the humans pet the dogs, spoke to the dogs, and looked into the dog’s eyes. Then the scientists tested their levels of oxytocin again. The researchers found that levels of oxytocin were higher in both humans and dogs after they interacted. However, levels were the highest in the humans and dogs that simply looked into each other’s eyes, w ithout much petting or talking. It does not matter how big or small. I live in a small room with my two sons, and we share our thoughts.”--- Honey “Since 2007, I’ve built four homes with Habitat for Humanity families. The common pointthat each family has is: faith, hope, family, school, love, even future struggles. Home gave these four great families a safe place out of dangerous living conditions so they could think about the future as well as the present.”--- Chad “Home is a comfort place to live with our families and pets and enjoy with friends, a place to build memories as well as a way to build future wealth (财富). A place where we can truly just be ourselves. And whether our houses are big or small, they are our shelters.”--- Linda “Home is my root. When I was a little kid, my parents never had their own place. With 5 kids, my dad worked 7 days a week 12 hours a day; mom worked off and on, always running to get another job. We went from one place to another. I can remember one place we lived in had no bathroom, the windows were missing, and there were holes in the walls. So the first thing I did after I got a job was to buy an apartment where I could live forever.”--- Thomas “Home means a future. Once we had a stable home, we could think beyond where we were going to live from week to week, and we could begin to look ahead to where we wanted to go. A.East or West, Home is Best B.Different Home Patterns C.Finding a New Home D.Keywords for HomeDA sea turtle climbed out of the ocean It was just before midnight. It arrived to lay eggs.Sea turtles have been doing this for 200 million years. Sea turtles lived at the time as the dinosaurs. The sea turtle had to survive plastic rubbish, fish nets and oil spills to get here. There is another danger. The Earth has been getting warmer. This makes the sand hot. Warm sand makes the turtle eggs hatch (孵化) as females (雌性).This is a problem. Female sea turtles are very important because they lay eggs. But male turtles are also needed to help make babies. Without enough males, sea turtles could die out.Every year, sea turtles swim to Cape Verde. It is a country in West Africa. About 30000 sea turtles nest (筑巢) there. This is one-sixth of all of Earth’s nesting sea turtles.Scientists from Great Britain studied the turtles there. They found 21 out of 25 young turtles were females.“Males here will die out in 20 to 30 years.”said Adolfo Marco Llorente. He is studying the turtles on Boa Vista. It is one of Cape Verde’s island. Without males, the turtles cannot have more babies.Businesses on Cape Verde are worried. Tourists come to see the sea turtles. The tourists buy local things like pottery. They would lose money if turtles died out.Scientists have looked at sea turtles in other warm areas. There are more female turtles there, too.84% of sea turtles hatchlings in Cape Verde are now femaleThis is worrying, so scientists have found ways to keep the turtle nests cool. Keeping the eggs cool means more male turtles can be hatched. One way is to move the eggs under the trees or bushes. Scientists have also put the eggs into smaller groups. Many eggs close together can heat up.Ll orente’s team collects the eggs in a bag. Then they bring them to a place on the beach behind a fence. The fence keeps animals away that want to eat the eggs. It also lets the scientists watch the temperature of the eggs.41.Which sentence from the passage is the topic sentence? A.Every year, sea turtles swim to Cape V erde. Big data can have different kinds of information from many sources, such as information that comes from schools, social media sites, companies and governments. One set of data can have people’s names and addresses. Another set can have what they like, where they go to school, andhow much time they spend on the computer.Big data can be used in many ways. In fact, everyone has the power to change their living habits to help reduce it. Many local governments call on their people to take action to make the air cleaner.Transport is one of the biggest contributors(促成物)to haze. When, where, how, why and what you drive all affect air quality. When one drives to work for one year,he uses as mush energy as a bus rider uses in 10 years. So walk or ride your bicycle to work or school whenever possible. If it is necessary, you can use public transport instead of your car. Each person using public transport for a year instead of a car can save nearly a tonne of pollutants, including CO2,from going into the atmosphere.Carpooling is another way to reduce carbon emissions(排放).Carpooling is the sharing of car journeys so that more than one person travels in a car. It immediately reduces your car’s emissions by half. What you do inside your living space can have a big effect on the air quality outside it. You can do a lot of things inside and around your home that will help you pollute less and save some money.A large amount of our energy supply comes from burning coal, another contributor to haze. By cutting down your electricity use,you are cutting down on haze. So you may try to reduce your use of electricity by turning off lights, using your air conditioner wisely during the summer months,or updating some of your electrical appliances to low-energy models. For example, you can use energy-saving lamps that require less energy and last 10 times longer than common bulbs.()38. Which does the writer think should play an important rode in reducing haze?A. He called the waiter and ordered, “Two cups of coffee, one of them there on the wall.” We heard this with great interest and saw that he was served wit h one cup of coffee but he paid for two.As soon as he left, the waiter quickly put a piece of paper on the wall saying “A Cup of Coffee”. While we were still there, two other men had two cups of coffee but paid for three. Again, the waiter did the same thing. It seemed that this was usual at this place. However, it was something strange for us. Since we had nothing to do with the matter, we finished our coffee, paid and left. After a few days, we again had a chance to go to this coffee shop. While we were enjoying our coffee, a man entered. The way this man was dressed did not match the style of this coffee shop.As he seated himself, he looked at the wall and said: “One cup of coffee from the wall.” The waiter served coffee to this man, showing him the same respect as the other customers. The man had his coffee and left without paying. The waiter took off a piece of paper from the wall and threw it in the dustbin. Now there was no doubt for us. The people of this town showed great respect for those people who needed help.Just think about what this man wanted. He didn’t have to lose face to ask for a free cup of coffee. Without asking or knowing who was giving him this cup of coffee, he only looked at the wall, placed an order, enjoyed his coffee and left.I t’s a truly beautiful thing – probably the most beautiful wall anywhere in the world.24. He a sked his students tohand in their homework through a QR code(二维码). “Wespent an hour or two in class learning how to generate(使产生)the codes, and in the end everything gets easier,” said Guo.“When students finish the homework, they keep it on WeChat(微信). Then, each student makes his own QR code andgives it to me. So, I can check their work everywhere using my computer or telephone” .The QR codes can be sent to Mr. Guo by email, QQ and WeChat. When Guo scans(扫描)his students’ QR codes, their homework a ppears on his phone. He finds that their homework becomes more creative, with many pictures, music and even videos.Guo’s students like the new way and think it is interesting. “We are living in the information age. Many students like to work with compu ters, which makes learning more fun.” said Tingting, a student of Guo’s.“The paper is not easy to keep, but the code is easy to keep and share,” Guo said. “It is worth trying to use new technology in education. Education itself is a kind of creation. I don’t want my students to fall behind the times.”However, some parents are worried. They are afraid that their children will spend too much time one computers and less time communicating with teachers. But in fact, it’s unnecessary. Students still need to look up information in books and write it down when they do their homework. They only use the code when they hand in their work, which doesn’t take them too much time.
