Listen and Respond1I am now a fourth-year student at college, but I can never forget my freshman year here. In general, it is a time filled with anticipation, some anxiety, and wonderful discoveries.College is a lot different from high school. Your freshman experience will definitely make an impression on you. So, what can you expect as you head off into the wonderful world of higher education? The first thing yo u’ll notice is the workload. It will be heavier than you ever experienced before. The major challenges of college work are the large amount of reading and writing, and the short deadlines. A related effect that can be brought on by the workload is doubt, frustration, and possibly loneliness. You’ll be away from the comforts and friendships your home provided for you over the previous years.During the freshman year, you’ll be making a lot of new friends. But you should continue to be yourself. Select your friends with the same care and patience you have always shown. Believe it or not, your college friendships will be among the most satisfying and long-term of your life. I t’s always exciting to discover how wonderfully diverse college relationships can be.You’ll also be on your own-you’ll be your own boss 24 hours a day, so to speak. But, remember, with freedom comes responsibility. You should always remember that you are at college with an anticipated mission. Don’t waste your time on meaningless things.During the freshman year, you may even start thinking about your future. Maybe a certain professor is especially inspiring. Perhaps your school has some great research going on. If some area of study attracts you, find out all you can about it. It might be the beginning of your lifetime career. Going to college is not just to get a degree-it is to find out who you really are and what you are really made for.Task Two1.anticipation; wonderful discoveries2.heavier; reading and writing; deadlines3.most satisfying; long-term; wonderfully diverse4.anticipated mission; meaningless things5.who you are; what you are really made for2Unit 2 Learning a LanguageListen and RespondHello, I'm Alberto.I'm a student of English, French, Portuguese and Italian.I would also love to learn Chinese and German in the near future. My mother tongue is Spanish and I have a degree in Political Science.I love to learn new languages, because I think it broadens my mind.Even though I still have some difficulty with verb tenses,I'm confident that with time and practice I'll cope with them.I believe learning a new language besides your mother tongue can be useful, especially in a world where distances are shortenedand people from different countries communicate with each other more frequently.Learning a new language can be a good experience, but only if you keep in mind that nothing is obtained without some effort. In my opinion, the best way to learn a language is to read a lot.It doesn't matter what you read, but that you do it.Even if you don't understand everything, your reading comprehension skill will improve remarkably. Also, if possible, watch a lot of television in that language, or listen to CDs.Maybe at first you won't understand a word, but later you'd catch on to the rhythm of the language.Good dictionaries are necessary, and books regarding vocabulary can be a plus. The Internet is also a useful tool. The language you choose to learn might seem a little difficult at first,or even totally strange, but you'll get accustomed to it. Remember that the learning process is long, and that it never ends. However, it is also highly enjoyable.3The Birthday HeartOne day I was helping my mom preparing a picnic when my sisters arrived. They said, “Happy birthday, Mom!”and gave her some presents.I was sad. I had forgotten it was my mother’s birthday, but I didn’t want her to know that I had not remembered her birthday. I had one dollar in my piggy bank. With that I was sure that I could get a present that would show my mother how much I loved her.I went to the store. When I looked around, I suddenly realized that my dollar wouldn’t buy as much as I had thought it would. Then I saw a heart made of plastic. It contained typewriter correction paper. I knew that it would show my mother how much I loved her. It was ninety-nine cents.I took the heart to the cashier and gave her my dollar. She said that I didn’t have enough money because with tax the heart cost more than a dollar.I didn’t understand sales tax. All I understood was that I couldn’t’ give the heart to my mom.I went to put the heart back and the cashier asked me if it was my mom’s birthday. I nodded. Then she said that she could help me. She put some of her own pennies in the cash register with my dollar and gave me the heart in a bag. When my mother opened the bag and pulled out the heart, she exclaimed “What a beautiful present!”“It’s just what I need.”She put me on her lap and told me that she loved the heart and she loved me.I don’t remember many of the gifts that I have given my mother, but I will always remember the heart that I gave her on that birthday.Task Two1. sad2. her mother’s birthday3. want her mother4. how much she loved her5. wouldn’t buy6. ninety-nine7. put the heart back8. cash register9. “what a beautiful present! It’s just what I need.”10. her lap4Parents and TeenagersTeenagers and adults have a difficult time communicating. Teenagers often think adults don’t understand them. Adults often think teenagers just don’t listen to anything they say. That creates conflict. People very often use “generation gap” to explain the conflict between parents and children. However, the problem of communication between parents and teenagers does not all lie in the “generation gap”. It lies mostly in implied statements that are not fully communicated between a teenage child and a parent. Here is one example. Mother says: “Please take out thetrash.” The teenager replies: “OK.” However, one hour later the mother finds the trash is still in the kitchen and so becomes a bit unhappy. “I thought I asked you to take out the trash.” But the child replies: “You didn’t say I had to do it now.” Are you familiar with this kind of conversation? In this conversation the mother feels that the teenager should know what she means, but the teenager just doesn’t. Conversations like this take place around our home every day. They cause some unhappiness but are totally normal, and can usually be solved quite soon. It is when this type of “lack of communication”gets involved with the bigger issues of teenagers that larger problems can be caused. It is more difficult to solve these larger problems and it takes the efforts of both parents and teenagers to overcome such problems.Task Two1.don’t understand them2.don’t listen to anything3.generation gap4.fully communicated5.should know what she means6.some unhappiness7.gets involved with 8.solve these larger problems 9.to overcome such problems 5Script:What is personality? How does knowledge about personality help us?First of all, let us take a look at what personality means. In general, when psychologists talk about personality, they are usually looking for things that make a person different from others or things that can explain how a person is not the same as others. However, different psychologists have different ways of explaining what personality is. They often use tests to put people into categories and compare them. For example, people who are quiet and like to spend more time at home reading and doing their own things are called introverts. “Introverts”is spelt I-N-T-R-O-V-E-R-T-S. Others who enjoy going out and spending time with other people are called extroverts, E-X-T-R-O-V-E-R-T-S. Do you know which personality type you are? Are you an introvert or an extrovert.Second, how can knowledge about personality help us? Well, one of the ways is that by knowing how people behave and why they behave in a certain way, we can understand them better. This will help to make our relationship with them stronger. For instance, if we know that someone is an introvert, we will understand why he or she does not feel comfortable when he or she is with a big group of newly met people. We may then help this person to make friends and talk to others.Another way knowledge about personality can help us is when we want to improve ourselves. If we know what personality type we belong to and the reasons we behave the way we do, we can then try to change some of the bad things so that they can become good. In this way, we can make ourselves a better person. So, after listening to this short passage about personality, do you want to find out more about yourself?Task Two:1. explain2. quiet; spend time at home; own things; extroverts; going out and spending time with other people.3. understand; stronger4. comfortable5. improve6Xiao Wang: People are so impolite these days!Xiao Chen: What’s the matter, Xiao Wang?Xiao Wang: Well, you see, this morning I was sitting in the back of the bus, alone, by myself. A friend called so I talked on my mobile phone to him for a while.Xiao Chen:Yes? What happened?Xiao Wang: Well, two people kept giving me dirty looks. You know, this is not the first time. It happened before. And when I got off the bus, one of them told me to stop usingmy mobile phone. He said I had talked too loudly about private matters and hehad not the least interest in knowing about them. I just don’t understand thesepeople. What’s wrong with them?Xiao Chen: I see. Actually similar things have happened to me many times, too. I must say there’re rud e people everywhere these days. Like, the other day, I was sitting inthe park, smoking a cigarette. I was just sitting there, you know, enjoying the niceweather, looking at the birds, listening to music, and smoking.Xiao Wang:Yeah, what happened then?Xiao Chen: Well, when I finished my cigarette, I did what I always do when I smoke in the park. I put the cigarette butt on the sidewalk and crushed it with my shoe.Xiao Wang:Right. That’s what I usually do and there’s nothing wrong with it. This wa y it won’t be a danger to anyone.Xiao Chen: Well, this guy walking by saw me putting out my cigarette and told me that it was not very nice. He said it was bad for the environment. I just don’t get it. How canit be bad for the environment? Why are people so impolite?Xiao Wang:Well, well, I must say there are certainly rude people everywhere!Task Two1. alone2. looking at3. got off; private4. wrong5. crushed/ put out; danger6. very nice7. bad8. rude/ impolite。

However, when you’re going to college, your primary reason for going to college is to educate yourself, which means to make yourself a better person both intellectually, spiritually, mentally, all of these things.2.Discuss the topic with your group members:What are the recommended concerns in selecting a college major according to the video clip? And how did you choose your current major?▇Answers for reference:According to the video clip, the main concerns should be: first, to choose something you really enjoy; second, to choose something your school is well known for.Script:Hi, this is Laura Turner, and today I’m going to talk to you about how to select your college major. I would like to tell you that if you select something that you love and thatyou’re passionate about, everything’s going to be fine and you’re going to g et a great job with your degree, but of course this is not completely true. However, when you’re going to college, your primary reason for going to college is to educate yourself, which means tomake yourself a better person both intellectually, spiritually, mentally, all of these things. So, whenever you choose your major, I would say yes, do choose something that you enjoy, because really if you are just in it to get a degree that will get you a high-paying job andyou’re not really passionate about this and you want to be an Engineering Major justbecause you know that’s going to make you into a high earning person, that may be thewrong reason to study it because you’re going to get overwhelmed over time because adegree takes, it’s four years out of your life that you’re going to be studying this thing. There has to be something beyond money, and beyond the job that’s going to keep you interested. So I would suggest picking something that you love as well as, hopefully, it will besomething that will get you a job. Also, my other point is, pick something that your school is well known for, something in your school, the major in your school that actually has really great professors to teach you. If you have a great English Department, if you have a greatH istory Department, and you’re passionate about those things, study with professors whoare great and they can help turn a little bit of interest in a subject matter into a lifelong love of it. So good luck with choosing your major wisely.Part II Listen and RespondSection A Word BankSection B Task One: Focusing on the Main Ideas1. Straight-A students, in this respect, can be of great help by sharing their secrets in achieving academic excellence. Read the following text to find out what some of these secrets are.Secrets of Straight-A Students1 A professor of education who has conducted major studies of super-achieving students revealed that top grades do not always go to the brightest students. According to him, other education experts and top students themselves, it is far more important for a student to know how to make the most of his or her innate abilities.2 The students at the top of the class attain academic excellence by mastering a fewbasic principles that others can easily learn. To begin with, top students know how to set their priorities right. Study time is never compromised for phone calls, television programmes or snacks. In other words, it is always placed above recreation. In addition, top students make a point of studying anywhere or everywhere. A top student who is also a top athlete memorises biology terms as he works out every day. Another student learns a new word every morning while brushing his teeth. Among all the students interviewed, every one agreed that study times are strictly a matter of personal preference. Some thrive at night when all is silent. Others prefer to study as soon as they come home from school when the lessons are fresh in their minds. However, all agreed that consistency is a main factor if one is to perform well at all times.3 A student must also learn to be organised. For example, a top student who is actively involved in his school band, track and field, rugby association and debate team disclosed that he keeps his things in their proper places because he simply cannot afford time-wasting searches. Another student immediately files the day’s notes in colour-coded folders so that they are available for review nearing examination time. Another technique advocated by top students is to read effectively. This includes speed-reading, improving one’s memory or retention ability, and actively asking questions that will lead to a full understanding of the author’s message.4 It is also important for students to know how to schedule their time. They must know how to pace each assignment or project according to their daily timetable and work ability so that they might not be overwhelmed by the tasks at hand. Being able to set timetables not only allows students more time to review and polish their work, it also prevents them from procrastinating. Top students believe that a secret of their success is the taking down of good notes during lessons and using them for revision. One student revealed that she writes notes from the text on one side of her notebook and those from her teachers’ lectures on the other side. This allows her to review both aspects of each lesson at once. The student also revealed that instead of wasting time whispering to friends and getting ready to rush out of the class just before the bell rings, she uses those few minutes to jot down a two or three-sentence summary of the lesson’s principal points. She then scans the notes to refresh her memory before the next day’s class.5 Another winning formula which teachers promote lies in a student’s ability to hand in neat work. According to one professor, the student who turns in neat work is already on the way to scoring an A.In the classroom context, it is equally important for students to speak up and ask questions. This is perhaps the best way for a student to clarify any doubts. Classroom participation also demonstrates a student’s intellectual curiosity. As a student concisely puts it, “Better grades come from better understanding.”6 The value of studying together was demonstrated in an experiment conducted at one top university. The study revealed that students who discussed homework and problems together, tried different approaches and explained their solutions to one another scored higher than those who laboured on their own. The experiment also illuminated the value of hypothetical tests conducted among the students and on their own. This means that students frame tentative test questions based on their notes and give each other or themselves written examinations the day before a test. Experts confirmed that students who devise possible test questions often find many of the same questions during the real examination and thus score higher.7 Another technique employed by top students is to do more than the assigned homework.A student revealed that if her teacher gives five problems, she will undertake ten. In the student’s words, “Part of learning is practising. The more you practise, the more you learn.” Last but not least, all experts and top students agree that the most important “secret” of super-achievers lies in the crucial contribution by parents. From infancy, super-achievers were taught the importance of learning by their parents. The latter set high standards for their children and held them to those standards. They encouraged their children in their studies but did not undertake the work for them. Instead of pressuring their children, these parents were always loving, gentle and took pains to explain and motivate. They impressed the lessons of responsibility on their children, andthe children delivered.(此课文没有更新,不需要配图说明。

Accordi ng to him, other educati on experts and top student s themsel ves, it is far more importa nt for a student to know how to make the most of his or her innateabiliti es.2 The student s at the top of the c lass attainacademi c excelle nce by masteri ng a few basic princip les that otherscan easilylearn. To begin with, top student s know how to set their priorit ies right. Study time is never comprom ised for phone calls, televis ion program mes or snacks. In other words, it is alwaysplac edabove recreat ion. In additio n, top student s make a point of studyin g anywher e or everywh ere. A top student who is also a top athlete memoris es biology terms as he works out every day. Another student learnsa new word every morning while brushin g his teeth. Among all the student s intervi ewed, every one agreedthat study times are strictl y a matterof persona l prefere nce. Some thriveat night when all is silent. Otherspreferto study as soon as they come home from schoolwhen the lessons are fresh in their minds. However, all agreedthat consist ency is a main factorif one is to perform well at all times.3 A student must also learn to be organis ed. For example, a top student who is activel y involve d in his schoolband, track and field, rugby associa tion and debateteam disclos ed that he keeps his thingsintheir properplacesbecause he simplycannotaffordtime-wasting searche s. Another student immedia tely files theday’snotesincolour-coded folders so that they are availab le for reviewnearing examina tion time. Another techniq ue advocat ed by top student s is to read effecti vely. This include s speed-reading, improvi ngone’smemoryor retenti on ability, and activel y askingquestio ns that will lead to a full underst anding of the author’smessage.4 It is also importa nt for student s to know how to schedul e their time. They must know how to pace each assignm ent or project accordi ng to their daily timetab le and work ability so that they might not be overwhe lmed by the tasks at hand. Being able to set timetab les not only allowsstudent s more time to reviewand polishtheir work, it also prevent s them from procras tinati ng. Top student s believe that a secretof their success is the takingdown of good notes duringlessons and using them for revisio n. One student reveale d that she writesnotes from the text on one side of her noteboo k and those from her teacher s’lecture s on the other side. This allowsher to reviewboth aspects of each lessonat once. The student also reveale d that instead of wasting time whisper ing to friends and getting ready to rush out of the class just beforethe bell rings, she uses those few minutes to jot down a two or three-sentenc e summary of the lesson’sprincip al points. She then scans the notes to refresh her memorybeforethe nextday’sc lass.5 Another winning formula which teacher s promote lies in a student’sability to hand in neat work. Accordi ng to one profess or, the student who turns in neat work is already on the way to scoring an A. In the classro om context, it is equally importa nt for student s to speak up and ask questio ns. This is perhaps the best way for a student to c larify any doubts.Classro om partici pation also demonst ratesa student’sintelle ctualcuriosi ty. As a student concise ly puts it, ―Bettergradescome from betterunderst anding.‖6 The value of studyin g togethe r was demonst ratedin an experim ent conduct ed at one top univers ity. The study reveale d that student s who discuss ed homewor k and problem s togethe r, tried differe nt approac hes and explain ed their solutio ns to one another scoredhigherthan those who laboure d on their own. The experim ent also illumin ated the value of hypothe ticaltests conduct ed among the student s and on their own. This means that student s frame tentati ve test questio ns based on their notes and give each other or themsel ves written examina tionsthe day beforea test. Experts confirm ed that student s who devisepossibl e test questio ns often find many of the same questio ns duringthe real examina tion and thus score higher.7 Another techniq ue employe d by top student s is to do more than the assigne d homewor k. A student reveale d that if her teacher gives five problem s, she will underta ke ten. In the student’swords, ―Partoflearnin g is practis ing. The more you practis e,themoreyoulearn.‖Lastbutnotleast,al l experts and top student s agree that the most importa nt ―secret‖ of super-achieve rs lies in the crucial contrib utionby parents. From infancy, super-achieve rs were taughtthe importa nce of learnin g by their parents. The latterset high standar ds for their childre n and held them to those standar ds. They encoura ged their childre n in their studies but did not underta ke the work for them. 第一单元-clozeHow can student do well at school ? Are straight-A students always those who are the brightest? Students are very interesting in getting answers to questions like these as achieving academic excellence is , and will always be, one of their top priorties at school.A professor of education who has recently conducted a survey on the subject revealed that top grades do not always go to the brightest students . When some basic principles are followed, everyone can become a top student.to begin with, study should always be the number one priority for a student. Study time is always guaranteed and should never be compromised for personal recreation such as movies, tv programs or snacks. In addition, learning to be organized is very important. Keeping everything in its place and filing class notes in order are two good examples.Speaking up in class and asking questions is another winning formula. A student can clarify any doubts by asking questions. Particpation in group study is another help. by framing tentative test questions based on class notes, students can help each other prepare for tests. Last but not least, always hand in neat work. A student who turns in nest work is already on the way to scoring an A.A student may suffer from different kinds of pressure at school, but if he follows these principles in his studies, sooner or later he will become a top student.第二单元-clozeMany of us these days are learning language a foreign language. We are interesting in learning another language because we know that knowledge of another language and culture will increase our career opportunities, broaden our horizons and enrich our life. Since learning a foreign language is of such importance, no doubt people are constantly looking for more efficient ways of language learning. Most people say the best way to learn language is to say in the country where it is spoken. It is true those who go to a native country have advantage over those who don't . But living abroad needs money, and not everyone can affort to do so. Those who don't go abroad may turn to language schools for nguage schools usually claim that they can teach student to speak the language they want to learn fluently within 3 to 6 months because they have more qualified teachers and better facilities. To a certain extent, a good teacher is indeed important in language learning, but it would be ridiculous to claim that any teacher has discovered a perfect way of teaching English in every possible situation. In fact, there are as many good methods of teaching a language as there are good teachers, because every teacher is an individual with his / her own personality. What a student needs to remember then is to is to find out a method that best suits himself / herself.第四单元-clozeWhen I was a child, I was really proud of heaving a father who was a well-respected doctor. I beamed whenever my teachers said that I was set to become an honorableman like my father. However, all this changed when I grew into a teenager. I felt awkward that everybody around me only remembered me as Dr.Song's son. I protested and told them that I would prefer to stand on my own two feet. However, my compliments were never taken seriously and I continued to hear compliments about me, which were really meant for my father.I then grew very stubborn and even refused to call my father "Dad." Although my father forwned whenever I called him "Lao Song" my attitude towards him, as now recall, did not change until I had a car accident one day. I hit a young man's car and panicked as he threatened to beat me up when I told him no car insurance. When I got off my car and surveyed the damage, I could not help groaning.Out of fear, I told him "I'm Dr.Song's son." At this, a sign of recognition lit up his face; he smiled and forgave me. What could have been a very difficult situation turned out to be fine just because I was Dr.Song's son. How thankful I felt towards my father.第五单元-clozeWhen a person is born, he / she has a set of personalities that make him / her different from others. Psychologists believe that colors are sometimes a good way to include how a person behaves and the way he / she responds to things that are happening to him / her. They can also represent personality traits.Nonetheless, we cannot be absolutely sure about a person's characteristics by just looking at his / her preference for certain colors. Therefore, we should not be harsh and critical toward a person just because he / she likes specific color that not represent some positive traits or characteristics. Psychologists also believe that everyone can develop or change his / her personality. For example, if an individual wants to correct his / she negative traits such as his / she has to be immature behavior, he / she has to make an effort to do so. He /She has to be persistant and keep working hard to ensure that he / she can achieve his / her goal. Therefore, if a person is determined, he / she can change the traits he / she inherits from his / her parents. The important thing is to change for the better and not for the worse.第七单元-clozeBeing a good boss has never been easy for me. The most difficult part is not about work, but about dealing with relationships at the workplace. I each and every employee in my company is significant to its development, I need to give enough attention and care to everyone ang to be approachable to all. At the start of the business, I encountered difficult situations and I was unsure what the best way was to handle them. For example, when an employee made a mistake, I hesitated about whether to scold him or her. Would I appear to be an important boss to my employees if I did so?Would they continue to make mistakes if I was too lenient? Sometimes, I had to settle disputes among the employees if they did not see eye to eye with each other on some tasks. This too was difficult. Should I blame any party or should I defend anyone? How would I bring them to see their differences and find solutions without hurting each other ? Sometimes I also encountered difficultemployees who seemed to feel miserable whatever I did for them . Life has never been easy , but I have learning the ropes along the way. The essential principle is to treat the employees sincerely, appreciate their contributions to the company and reward them according. My employees are happy to have me as their boss, and are offering me all the assistance they could . They have great enthusiasm for their word and have contributed significantly to the company's development.。

Unit1Free fallingThe impact of saying goodbye and actually leaving did not hit me until the day of my departure. Its strength woke me an hour before my clock would, as for the last time missy, my golden retriever, greeted me with a big, sloppy lick. I hated it when she did that, but that day I welcomed her with open arms. I petted her with long, slow strokes, and her sad eyes gazed into mine. Her coat felt more silky than usual. Of course, I did not notice any of these qualities until that day, which made me all the more sad about leaving her.The entire day was like that: a powerful awakening of whom and what I would truly miss. I became sentimental about saying goodbye to many people I had taken for granted--- the regulars who came into the restaurant where I worked, the ones I never find time to speak with. I had to leave all of my friends and classmates I had always intended to “get to know someday.” Most importantly, I would be forced to say farewell to the ones who raised me.All at once, the glorious hype about becoming independent and free became my sole, scary reality. I began to feel the pressure of all my big talk about being a big now that day it finally had, I felt as if I did not want to go. I supposed that goes with the territory of enrolling in a university sis hours from home.Upon my decision to do so, in fact, all of my personal problems had seemed to fade. I didn’t care: I was leaving. I wanted to make it clear that I want to go--- and by god, I was ready. Then the day came, and I wondered if I was honestly readyto go.My dad and stepmom were taking me to school, but first I had to say goodbye to my mom. No one ever said divorce was easy. I met mom from brunch that morning, and she immediately began talking of my past experiences. More so, she talked a little her first year away from home--- cluttered dorm, shy roommates, some art history classes--- and she spoke with such detail and enthusiasm that I clearly saw what a lasting impression college makes. We talked then of my expectations--- what the guy on my floor would be like, how I hoped my classes would not be on opposite sides of campus, whether I’d gain weight on cafeteria food. She paused for a se cond, and then quipped,” the food won’t make you gain weight, the beer will.”I smiled. I felt relieved that mom was in a cheerful mood, rather than a maudlin one. Ironically, the sky was filled with sunshine and bright, silky clouds. Some how, I’d expecte d it to be gray and overcast. As we talked, I realized I would soon begin the long, complicated road to independence. The security I had selfishly taken for granted at home would eventually diminish into memory. Home would no longer be home, but Carbondale, illinios. When the waitress brought our bill, Mom’s mood shifted noticeably. She became quiet, even somber. I suppose for her that somehow signaled the conclusion of our last meal together, at least the last one for quiet some time. She looked down at the table pensively. Looking back now, I can see the significance that day probably hadfor my mother. As a parent, she must have been anticipating that day ever since november30,1970, and it surely challengedher emotionally. She walked me to my car, and I could feel my sadness in the pit of my stomach. The summer breeze dried my eyes, as I blinked profusely to moisten them.“Well, I guess I have to go, “ I mumbled looking into the distance. I could not believe I did not have the courage to say that directly into her eyes.“ I know, “she replied with a faint smile and then quipped. “ it’s not too late to change your mind.” She was joking, but there seemed to be some seriousness in her voice. Her smile quickly faded when I said I couldn’t.“I’m going to miss you.” She added.“ You make it sound as if you’re never see me again.”“ You could call…collect, of course.”I laughed. The implication that all money spent from then on would be my own was scary, yet funny as well.“ Don’t worried about me too much, mom.”“I’ll miss you.” She drew my close and gave me a big hug. And I assured her I’d be back sooner than she’d realize. She then told me that she loved me.“ I… love you, too.” The difficulty of saying those words overwhelmed me. I had always seen myself as someone with solid, untouchable emotions. At that moment, though, I was in a fragile, quivering state; and I could not believe I had conjured such a false image of myself. We drew apart, and I slowly climbed into my gray maxima. She did not cry, but who knows what happened when I turned the corner. I don’t think I want to know.At that time, I felt like a rookie sky diver preparing for his first plunge. The cabin door opens to reveal the extreme distance ofhis fall, which leads to either sheer excitement or eventual death. The naivete that sheltered his fear disappears at the sudden reality of the moment. By then, of course, it is much too late to turn back. The very thought that this was his idea seems absurd to him, and he feels like the only person on the face of the planet. And so he closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, and jumps.Big talk大话牛皮Big shot大人物By god上帝作证More so在更大程度上如此The pit of the stomach胸口,心窝。

</Para><Para id="5">
