介绍北京的英语作文篇1People native to urban Beijing speak the Beijing dialect, which belongs to the Mandarin subdivision of spoken Chinese. Beijing dialect is the basis for Standard Mandarin, the language used in the People's Republic of China, the Republic of China on Taiwan, and Singapore. Rural areas of Beijing Municipality have their own dialects akin to those of Hebei province, which surrounds Beijing Municipality.Beijing Opera, or Peking Opera (Jingju), is well-known throughout the national capital. Commonly lauded as one of the highest achievements of Chinese culture, Beijing Opera is performed through a combination of song, spoken dialogue, and codified action sequences, such as gestures, movement, fighting and acrobatics. Much of Beijing Opera is carried out in an archaic stage dialect quite different from modern Standard Mandarin and from the Beijing dialect; this makes the dialogue somewhat hard to understand, and the problem is compounded if one is not familiar with Chinese. As a result, modern theaters often have electronic titles in Chinese and English.A hutong in eastern Beijing near Dongsishitiao. In this March 2003 photo the left side was still standing, but it has since given way to new construction. The Siheyuan is a traditional architectural style of Beijing. A siheyuan consists of a squarehousing compound, with rooms enclosing a central courtyard. This courtyard often contains a pomegranate or other type of tree, as well as potted flowers or a fish tank. Siheyuans line Hutongs , or alleys, which connect the interior of Beijing's old city. They are usually straight and run east-to-west so that doorways can face north and south for Feng Shui reasons. They vary in width — some are very narrow, enough for only a few pedestrians to pass through at a time.Once ubiquitous in Beijing, siheyuans and hutongs are now rapidly disappearing, as entire city blocks of hutongs are leveled and replaced with high-rise buildings. Residents of the hutongs are entitled to apartments in the new buildings of at least the same size as their former residences. Many complain, however, that the traditional sense of community and street life of the hutongs cannot be replaced. Some particularly historic or picturesque hutongs are being preserved and restored by the government, especially for the 2008 Olympics. One such example can be seen at Nanchizi.Mandarin cuisine is the local style of cooking in Beijing. Peking Roast Duck is perhaps the most well-known dish. The Manhan Quanxi ("Manchu-Han Chinese full banquet") is a traditional banquet originally intended for the ethnic-Manchu emperors of the Qing Dynasty; it remains very prestigious and expensive.Teahouses are also common in Beijing. Chinese tea comes in many varieties and some rather expensive types of Chinese tea are said to cure an ailing body extraordinarily well. The Jingtailan is a cloisonné metalworking technique and tradition originating from Beijing, and one of the most revered traditional crafts in China. Beijing lacquerware is well known forthe patterns and images carved into its surface. The Fuling Jiabing is a traditional Beijing snack food, a pancake (bing) resembling a flat disk with filling, made from fu ling (Poria cocos (Schw.) Wolf, or "tuckahoe"), an ingredient common in traditional Chinese medicine.介绍北京的英语作文篇2As the capital of the People‘s Republic of China, Beijing is the nation‘s political, economic, cultural and educational center as well as being the most important center in China for international trade and communications. Beijing is the capital city of China and it's where I was born and raised. It's a huge, bustling city with over 21 million people living there. That's a lot of people! But Beijing is super cool and there's so much awesome stuff to see and do. Let me give you a tour!First up, the famous Forbidden City! This was the palace where the emperors of ancient China lived with their families. It's called the "Forbidden City" because regular people weren't allowed to go inside for a long time. The Forbidden City is made up of almost 1,000 buildings with yellow glazed tile roofs. Walking through the huge courtyards and halls makes me feel like a little emperor myself!Right across from the Forbidden City is Tiananmen Square. This is one of the biggest public squares in the world and a lot of important events have happened here throughout Chinesehistory. Every day, tons of locals and tourists come to walk around, fly kites, and take pictures in front of the giant portrait of Mao Zedong hanging on the gate. The square can fit almost a million people!Another awesome place to visit is the Summer Palace, which used to be the garden and summer retreat for the imperial families. My favorite part is the Long Corridor, which stretches for almost 1 kilometer! The ceilings are painted with thousands of amazing pictures. Walking down the corridor, you feel like you're in an endless butterfly dream. For the real daredevils, you have to go to the Beijing Olympic Park. This is where the 2008 Summer Olympics were held. You can see the iconic Bird's Nest stadium and even go up to the top for an amazing view of the whole city! My friends and I love racing each other up and down the stairs. It's an awesome workout.Of course, you can't forget about the Great Wall of China, one of the true Wonders of the World. Parts of the Great Wall are just a short drive outside of Beijing. It's incredible to stand on this massive stone wall snaking over the mountains as far as the eye can see. It makes you feel so tiny but also proud to be Chinese. My parents say I have to hike the whole thing one day! When I'm not exploring the amazing historic sites, I love just wandering around the lively hutong neighborhoods. Hutongs are the old alleyways and courtyard homes where you can still find traditional stores, tea houses, bell towers, and drum towers. It's like stepping back in time! Plus, the hutongs are where you'll find the most delicious Beijing street food - jianbing crepes, tanghulu candied fruit, and my personal favorite, stinky tofu!Speaking of food, Beijing has some of the yummiest cuisine in the country. We're the hometown of real Beijing duck - thin crispy skin with soft tender meat that you wrap up in a little pancake with scallions, cucumber, and sweet bean sauce. Just typing about it is making my mouth water! Beijing is also famous for hot pot, where you cook a huge variety of meats and veggies right at your table in a big simmering pot of broth. It's the ultimate interactive meal that brings everyone together. As you can probably tell by now, I'm obsessed with Beijing and all it has to offer. The deep history and rich culture everywhere you look. The perfect blend of ancient traditions with modern innovation. The endless options for sightseeing, activities, entertainment, and out-of-this-world dining. Beijing has been my beloved home for my whole life and I feel so lucky.Whether you're an adventurous tourist or a lifelong local like me, Beijing will take your breath away every single day. From the majestic palaces and temples to the bustling markets and food stalls, this city is truly one-of-a-kind. Grab your walking shoes and Mongolia air tickets. Come experience the wonders of Beijing for yourself! I'll show you all the best spots. Just don't challenge me to a race up the Bird's Nest stairs - I never lose!篇2My Awesome Trip to BeijingLast summer, my family and I went on an amazing trip to Beijing, the capital city of China! Beijing is a huge and bustling city with a very long history. It was my first time visiting and I was so excited to explore this fascinating place. We flew into Beijing Capital International Airport, one of the biggest and busiest airports in the world. As soon as we stepped outside, I was blown away by how different everything looked and smelled compared to my hometown. The air was a bit hazyfrom all the traffic and construction, but it gave the city a cool, mysterious vibe. Our first stop was Tian'anmen Square, the massive public plaza right in the heart of Beijing. It's one of the largest city squares in the world and can fit like a million people! We walked across the ancient stones under the huge portrait of Chairman Mao hanging on the gate. The buildings around the square were so grand and ornately decorated. I felt tiny in comparison.Right next to Tian'anmen Square is the mind-blowing Forbidden City. This was the imperial palace where Chinese emperors lived for almost 500 years until the last dynasty ended in 1912. It's absolutely ginormous, with 9,999 rooms! We spent an entire day wandering through all the different halls, temples, gardens and corridors. Everything was built and decorated on the grandest scale imaginable, with bright red walls, yellow-glaze tiled roofs, huge wooden pillars and intricate carvings everywhere you looked. My favorite was the Imperial Garden, filled with wild rock formations, ponds and pavilions. So peaceful and pretty! The next day, we visited the Great Wall of China. This ancient wall snakes over huge mountain ridges for thousands of miles across northern China. We took a cable car up to a section calledBadaling and spent a couple hours hiking along the steep stone pathways. Some parts were totally vertical and had me huffing and puffing! But the views from up there were unbelievable, looking out over the misty green mountains. The Great Wall was originally built for defense, but it must have been an incredible feat of engineering and hard work to construct such a massive series of fortifications over that harsh terrain. No wonder it's considered one of the man-made wonders of the world! We also explored some of Beijing's oldest neighborhoods called hutongs. These are narrow alleys crisscrossed with courtyard homes built in the traditional style. It was like stepping back in time wandering through the hutongs - old men sitting outside playing Chinese chess, kids running around, stores selling all kinds of random goods from buckets, and lots of appetizing smells coming from the family-run restaurants. We had some incredible Beijing cuisine like tangy hot pot, crispy peking duck, and jianbing which is an amazing egg crepe snack. Definitely some of the tastiest and most unique food I've ever had!One night, we attended a cultural show with amazing acrobatics, juggling, contortionists and plate spinning. I have no clue how they could twist and bend their bodies into those crazypositions! Another day, we visited the Beijing Zoo to see the famous pandas chomping on bamboo shoots. Those pudgy bears were so cute and lazy, just lounging around and munching away.Beijing has such a wonderful blend of the ancient and modern worlds. We saw old temples and imperial buildings from dynasties past, but also towering modern skyscrapers, huge malls, tons of lights and video boards, and a super efficient subway system. The city just kept blowing me away with new sights and sounds around every corner.I loved soaking in the culture and history, but also the energy and excitement of Beijing's growth into a major global city. There was so much more we could have explored if we had more time. From the delicious authentic food to themind-boggling historical sights to the warm and welcoming people, Beijing is an absolutely awesome place that I can't wait to visit again someday. This trip was an adventure I'll never forget!篇3My Awesome City - Beijing!Wow, you want me to tell you all about my city? Get ready, because Beijing is the coolest place ever! It's the capital of China and one of the biggest cities in the world. There's so much to see and do here, I don't even know where to start.I guess I'll begin with the mind-blowing historical sites. Beijing has been around for like, a million years, so there are tons of incredible old buildings and palaces. The Forbidden City is my favorite - it used to be the home of Chinese emperors! Can you imagine living in a place with 9,999 rooms? I'd get lost every day! The halls and gardens are breathtaking with bright colors, intricate carvings, and these massive wooden pillars holding everything up. I love learning about the customs and traditions from way back when.Speaking of old stuff, Beijing has some of the craziest temples and monuments too. The Temple of Heaven is this wooden structure where emperors would pray for good harvests. The architecture looks like it's straight out of a fairytale with its blue-tiled roofs and carved dragon designs. And then there's the Bell Tower and Drum Tower that were used to tell time in ancient days before clocks and smartphones existed! It's wild to imagine what life was like back then. But Beijing isn't just about history - it's a modern, bustling city too! The streets are always buzzing with people, cars, bikes, and fascinating shops and restaurants. My parents sometimes take me to Wangfujing Street which is this huge pedestrian shopping area. You can find anything you want there - clothes, toys, books, trinkets, snacks, you name it. The food stalls are unbelievable with stuff like candied strawberry kebabs, chewy milk candy, and exotic fried snacks. It's a carnival for your tastebuds! And let me tell you about the food in Beijing - it's out of this world! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. There's the iconic Beijing roast duck that's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. You wrap it in a little pancake with some sauce...heaven! Then you've got the delicious Beijing noodles like zhajiangmian, which are thick, chewy noodles smothered in a savory bean sauce. Don't even get me started on the dumplings - steamed, fried, soup dumplings...I've tried them all and they're all amazing. My mouth is watering as I'm writing this!As if the sights, sounds, and flavors weren't enough, Beijing has some awesome parks and outdoor spaces too. My favorite is Beihai Park right in the city center. It has gardens, temples, bridges over lakes, and even an island! You can rent a little boatand cruise around the water if you want. It's the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle for a little while. During public holidays, the park is packed with families having picnics, flying kites, and just hanging out. So much fun!I haven't even mentioned Tiananmen Square which is one of the biggest public plazas in the world. Or the mind-boggling Bird's Nest and Water Cube stadiums from the 2008 Olympics. Or cool places like the Beijing Zoo, the Planetarium, art districts, and more. There's just too much coolness in Beijing to fit into one essay!Basically, Beijing is my favorite place on Earth. It's a magical blend of old and new with amazing sights, sounds, smells, and flavors around every corner. The culture here is so vibrant and there's always some special festival, event, or holiday happening.I feel so lucky to call Beijing my home. If you ever get a chance to visit, you'll understand why I love my city so much! I've got to run now, but I hope I could give you a little taste of how awesome Beijing is. Let me know if you have any other questions!篇4My Awesome City - BeijingHey there! My name is Xiao Ming and I'm a sixth-grader living in the amazing city of Beijing. Today, I'm going to tell you all about my hometown and why I think it's the coolest place ever! The whole complex is massive, with 9,999 rooms and a ton of courtyards and gardens. It's called the "Forbidden City" because regular people weren't allowed to enter back in the day. Imagine how jealous everyone must have been! But Beijing isn't just about old stuff. It's also a super modern city with towering skyscrapers, fancy shopping malls, andhigh-tech subways. The Beijing National Stadium, also known as the "Bird's Nest," is one of the most iconic modern landmarks. Itwas built for the 2008 Summer Olympics and looks like a giant bird's nest made of steel! They host all kinds of cool events and concerts there.Speaking of events, Beijing is always buzzing with excitement. Every year, we celebrate the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) with colorful decorations, fireworks, and delicious foods like dumplings and nian gao (sticky rice cake). The whole city comes alive with lion dances, temple fairs, and families gathering together. It's the best time of the year! And let's not forget about the food! Beijing is famous for its mouth-watering cuisine. My favorite dish is the classic Beijing roast duck. The skin is so crispy and the meat is juicy and flavorful. But be careful, it can get a little messy when you're trying to eat it with chopsticks! Other must-try foods include jiaozi (dumplings), zhajiangmian (noodles with a savory soybean paste), and tanghulu (candied fruits on a stick).Of course, no visit to Beijing is complete without seeing the Great Wall of China. It's a little bit outside the city, but totally worth the trip. The Great Wall snakes across mountains and valleys for thousands of miles, and it's one of the most impressive structures ever built by humans. Hiking along theGreat Wall is an unforgettable experience, and you can even stay in a nearby village to really soak in the culture and history. But you know what I love most about Beijing? The people! Beijingers are known for their warm hospitality and sense of humor. They're always cracking jokes and making fun of themselves, which makes the city feel so lively and friendly. My favorite thing is listening to the local Beijing dialect, which sounds totally different from standard Mandarin Chinese. It's like they're speaking their own secret language!Speaking of languages, Beijing is also a great place to learn English. Many schools offer English classes, and you can practice your skills by talking to tourists or joining English clubs. Who knows, maybe you'll become a fluent English speaker just like me!Overall, Beijing is an amazing city that perfectly blends ancient history with modern amenities. It's a place where you can explore centuries-old temples in the morning and go shopping at a fancy mall in the afternoon. There's always something new and exciting to discover, whether it's a hidden alleyway filled with quirky shops or a festival celebrating a traditional holiday. If you ever get the chance to visit Beijing, don't miss out! Trust me, this city will blow your mind with its rich culture, delicious food, and friendly people. Beijing is truly one-of-a-kind, and I'm so lucky to call it my home. Until next time, zaijian (goodbye)!篇5My Awesome City - Beijing!Hi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 6th grader at Beijing No. 8 Elementary School. Today, I want to tell you all about my amazing city - Beijing! Are you ready to learn some super cool facts? Let's go!Beijing is the capital city of China. It's huge, with over 21 million people living there. Can you imagine? That's a lot of people! But don't worry, the city is so well-organized that it doesn't feel too crowded or messy. One of the most famous landmarks in Beijing is the Forbidden City. It used to be the imperial palace where emperors lived a long, long time ago. The Forbidden City is massively big, with 9,999 rooms! I went there on a school trip last year and got to see the amazing architecture and learn about the history. It was like stepping back in time!Another must-see place in Beijing is the Great Wall of China. This incredible wall winds across the mountains like a hugedragon. Some parts of it are over 2,000 years old! Can you believe people built something so massive without modern tools and machines? The Great Wall makes me feel so proud of my Chinese heritage. If you visit Beijing, you have to try the yummy food! Beijing is famous for its delicious dumplings, noodles, and Peking duck. My favorite is the jianbing, which is a crispy crepe filled with eggs, sauce, and lots of yummy stuff. The smells from the street food stalls will make your mouth water!Speaking of street food, you'll love exploring the old hutong neighborhoods in Beijing. Hutongs are the narrow alleys lined with traditional courtyard homes. It's fun to wander through them and see the daily life of local Beijingers. Sometimes you can even spot the famous Beijing opera performers practicing their singing and acting. In the evening, the city lights up in a blaze of neon. My friends and I love going to the shopping areas like Wangfujing Street. There are so many cool stores, restaurants, and snack stands. One time, we even saw a street performer making amazing sugar figurines!Of course, no description of Beijing would be complete without mentioning the 2008 Olympic Games hosted here. Theiconic Bird's Nest stadium and the dazzling opening ceremony made the whole world go "Wow!" I was just a little kid back then, but I'll never forget the pride and excitement of having the Olympics in my city. There's just so much to see and do in Beijing. From historical sites to modern malls, from fantastic food to exciting events, this city has everything! I feel so lucky to call Beijing my home. One day, I hope you can come and experience the awesomeness for yourself. Trust me, you'll never want to leave!。

介绍北京的英语作文「优秀篇」优秀10篇
介绍北京的英语作文「优秀篇」优秀10篇北京导游词英语介绍篇一Hello, everyone. Have you ever been to Beijing? What's the weather like in Beijing?Beijing's cold weather is not to see the sun outside, what to see? Look at the wind! As long as the wind blows, the weather will be relatively cold. What's the wind blowing in winter? What's the wind blowing in summer? The primary school teacher said that southeast wind blows in summer and northwest wind blows in winter. Please remember. A student stood up and said: No, my mother said that she married my father and drank all year roundYou choose to come to Beijing at the end of October. Generally speaking, the time is very good. It's neither cold nor hot. It's an ideal tourist season in Beijing. As the saying goes: in good travel time, meeting a good guide is a kind of happiness; in good travel time, meeting a poor guide is a kind of sadness. It's a sigh to meet a good tour guide in a bad travel time; it's a kind of helplessness to meet a poor tour guide in a bad travel time. I hope we have a good time to travel, and I hope I am a good guide.I'd like to introduce myself. My family name is Li and my name is Tianyun. After you met me, I wish you good luck every day. Li is Muzi Li. You can call me director Li, but don't call me director Li. You can also call me Xiao Li, but don't add Zi. Xiao Li is Li Lianying, the eunuch next to Empress Dowager Cixi. Eunuch is an incomplete man. Besides being thin, the function of other parts of his body is quite normal. I was born on December 26. What's the special significance of this day? My mother's birthday is also on this day, and my emperor Taizu's birthday is also on December 26. My emperor Taizu is Chairman Mao Zedong. I want to have the same birthday as a great man. I can't be worse in my life. But after living for more than 20 years, I found that I'm not tall, not short, not fat, not thin, not old, not tender, and so on So far, no miracle has happened to me, but it doesn't matter. As the saying goes, height is not the distance, weight is not the pressure, age is not the problem, so I still have to confidently take everyone's activities in Beijing these days.In addition to taking you on a tour, we also have a master in charge of our transportation. Our master has more than ten years of driving experience. He usually receives deputies to the National People's Congress, and receives VIP guests and athletes during the Olympic Games. There has been no accident for more than ten years. He is very professional and safe. During our time in Beijing, we have master _ _ driving for us. We have to work hard for him in the next few days. Let's give him some applause first!Although the roads in Beijing are very broad now, Beijing, as the capital, has many people and cars, and the traffic condition is not very good most of the time. During our travel time, there may be traffic jams or people waiting for the bus. I hope you can understand.People live on food. When they come to Beijing, the first thing they should pay attention to is eating. When they come out, they won't be as comfortable as they are at home. Especially when they join a tour group, they should be prepared: the tour group meal in Beijing is very bad. What is despair? Despair is two dishes served in a restaurant, Eat the first one: “is there anything worse in the world?” eat the second one “Kao! It's really there!” although the group meal is bad, it's still quite hygienic. You can rest assured to eat it. The principle is to have enough food, eight dishes and one soup, and all the rice. When you see that the food is not enough, drink the soup quickly. If we don't have enough to eat, we can see the mountains far away and have a pot ofsteamed bread. If you come back to China for tourism in the future, if the number of people is small, you should try not to arrange group meals by travel agencies. You'd better have what you want (for Hong Kong and overseas Chinese).Next is the accommodation. Beijing is the capital, the political and cultural center. People come and go very frequently, so hotels of the same level in Beijing are not as good as those in other places. Then it gives a brief introduction of the hotel (such as stars, how far to the airport, how far to the railway station, how far to Tiananmen Square). In the evening, when we go back to the hotel, we should pay attention to rest. When we go shopping, we are not familiar with the place, so we should not go too far. The three things you must do when you come to Beijing are climbing the Great Wall, eating roast duck and watching acrobatics. I think we have arranged to climb the great wall and eat roast duck in our itinerary, but we haven't arranged to watch acrobatics. I'm very sorry. About in the Neolithic age, Chinese acrobatics had sprouted. So acrobatics has a history of more than years in China. Diving, rings and other sports in our Olympic Games are all evolved from acrobatics. Trampoline, which was officially an Olympic event in 2000, is also evolved from acrobatics. China's trampoline won two Olympic gold medals in Beijing Olympic Games. Chinese people can be proud to announce to the world that we can't do football, we can't do track and field, we can't do swimming pool, but we can't do it in bed! Chaoyang theater is the only designated theater for external performance in Beijing. During the Olympic Games, all foreign leaders came to China to watch acrobatic performances. Modern acrobatics combined with sound, color, light and other advanced elements are more gorgeous and exciting than traditional acrobatics. It really reflects the brilliance of one minute on stage and ten years off stage. Almost all the performances have won awards in the international arena, so we are visiting Beijing During this period, acrobatics is absolutely not to be missed if you have time in the evening. If you don't go, you will be sorry, but you will be shocked. The most important thing to come to Beijing is to visit. Apart from climbing the Great Wall, eating roast duck and watching acrobatics, what else can we play? Generally speaking, we can enter Guangzhou to watch cars, fly to Guilin to watch mountains, go to Xi'an to watch tombs, visit Beijing to watch walls, pass Tianjin to watch docks, visit Qinghai to watch the source, visit Tibet to watch Buddha's head, visit Nanjing to watch stones, visit Shanghai to watch people's heads drunk, visit Shanghai to watch people's heads; Unforgettable Hangzhou girl. What you see in Beijing is the top of the wall, that is, the most important thing is the history and culture left over from the ancient capital. If you join this tour group and meet guide Xiao Li, you are in a Beijing history and culture crash course, so you should listen to me carefully. Can't get on the car to sleep, get off the car to pee, take photos of scenic spots, go home and ask nothing. Especially when there are many tourists in Beijing, adults look at their heads and children look at their buttocks, so we should play with me, hold the hand of the guide, and travel together in Beijing!Beijing is the capital of Liao, Jin, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, the last five feudal dynasties in Chinese history. Its design and planning embodies the highest achievement of ancient Chinese urban planning, and is known as “the greatest individual project of human beings on the surface of the earth”。

Beijing is an ancient city with a long history. Back in 3000 years ago in Zhou dynasty, Beijing, which was called Ji at the moment, had been named capital of Yan. Thereafter, Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasty all made Beijing their capital. Therefore, Beijing was famous for "Capital of a thousand years".The long history leaves Beijing precious cultural treasure. Winding for several kilometers in Beijing area, the Great Wall is the only man-made structure that could been seen in the space. The Summer Palace is a classic composition of ancient royal gardens, and the Forbidden City is the largest royal palaces in the world. Tiantan is where the emperor used to fete their ancestors, and also the soul of Chinese ancient constructions. The four sites above has been confirmed world cultural heritage by UNESCO. However, the best representatives for Beijing are the vanishing Hutongs and square courtyards. Through hundreds of years, they have become symbol of Beijing's life. Tian'anmen square being still brilliant today with cloverleaf junctions and skyscrapers everywhere, the old-timey scene and modern culture are combined to present a brand new visage of Beijing. As Beijing has been confirmed home city of Olympics 2008, the spirit of "green Olympics, scientific Olympics and humanized Olympic" will surely bring more and more changes to Beijing, promote the development of sports and Olympics in China as well as in the world, and strengthen the friendly communications between Chinese and foreign people. The Temple of Heaven was initially built in Yongle year 18 of the Ming Dynasty (in 1420). Situated in the southern part of the city, it covers the total area of 273 hectares. With the additions and rebuild during the Ming, Qing and other Dynasties, this grand set of structures look magnificent and glorious, the dignified environment appears solemn and respectful, it is the place for both Ming and Qing Dynasty's Emperors to worship Heaven and pray for good harvest. The northern part of the Temple is circular while the southern part is square, implies "sky is round and earth is square" to better symbolize heaven and earth. The whole compound is enclosed by two walls, dividing the whole Temple into inner and outer areas, with the main structures enclosed in the inner area. The most important constructions are the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest, the Circular Mound Altar, Imperial Heaven, The Imperial Vault of Heaven, Heaven Kitchen, Long Corridor and so on, as well as the Echo Wall, the Triple-Sound Stone, the Seven-Star Stone and others of historic interest and scenic beauty. The Templeof Heaven is a comprehensive expression of the unique construction techniques from Ming and Qing Dynasties, it is China's most treasured ancient architecture,it is also the world's largest architectural complex for worship heaven. In 1998, it was included in the "list of the world heritages" by the United Nation's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.Do you know? There are four wonderful sounds in the Temple of Heaven! It's worth your time to study the four wonderful sounds.1. The echo from the Echo Wall - There is a circular wall around The Imperial Vault of Heaven, this is the famous Echo Wall. One person's mere whisper at any point close to the wall can be heard clearly on the other side if you draw your ear close to the wall, it is so clear that it is like talking on the phone. Do you want to know why? This is possible because the wall is round and hermetically constructed with smooth, solid bricks, so the sound wave can transmit to theother side via the extremely smooth inner circle.2. The sound of the Dialogue Stone - If you speak while standing on the 18th stone in front of The Imperial Vault of Heaven, the sound can clearly pass to the northeast corner of the north side hall and the northwest of the west side hall that are both 36 meters away. The sound can be heard just as well on the stonewhen speaking from the corners of these two side halls, this is what we call the "Sound of the Dialogue Stone".3. Repeating sounds of the Triple-Sound Stone - In front of the steps leading away from the hall is the Triple-Sound Stone. If you stand on the first stone and call out or clap your hands, the sound will echo once; on the second stone, the sound will be heard twice; and on the third stone, the sound will repeat three times. Hence it inherited the name. This is because the distances that the sound wave reflected from the round wall to the stone are different, the number of echo is also different. Take a guess which flagstone is at the center of the Echo Wall's? The third one. The echo actually gets repeated more than 3 times, it's just the sound is too weak to be heard after the 4th echo.4. The hollow of the Heaven's Center Stone - There is a stone plate in the center of the Circular Mound Altar called the Heaven's Center Stone. Shouting aloud standing above, you will hear the reverberation of the echo. This is due to the refraction of the sound.Beijing MunicipalityAs the capital of the People's Republic of China, Beijing is the nation's political, economic, cultural and educational center as well as being the most importantcenter in China for international trade and communications. It has been the heart and soul of politics and society throughout its long history. By the time of the Warring States Period (476 BC - 221 BC), it was serving as the capital of the Yan Kingdom. Because of its role in the life and growth of China, there is an unequalled wealth available for travelers to discover as you explore Beijing's ancient past and enjoy its exciting 21st Century world. In 2008 when Beijing hosts the Olympic Games, Beijing will show the world something so special that everyone will be awestruck by Beijing's latest accomplishments combined with its ancient history. What to seeThe magnificent Forbidden City is the world's largest and best-preserved imperial palace complex. Surrounded by a moat that is six meters deep and a ten-meter high wall are 9,999 rooms - just one room short of the number that ancient Chinese believed represented divine perfection. Once having entered the Forbidden City, visitors are transported to a spacious world of great luxury that had a culture of its own. For five centuries, this palace functioned as the administrative center of the country as well as being the pleasur"Tian'anmen Tower"e home of the emperors and empresses who were served by thousands of people. Walking along the corridors and through various rooms it becomes easy to understand the impact of the rulers who lived here and their isolation from the rest of Chinese life. Regardless of how much history you have read, or movies featuring the Forbidden City you have seen, the place itself is not to be missed by any Beijing visitor. (Self-guided audio tour tapes are available in several languages at the entrance.)For a peaceful and interesting stroll, visit one of Beijing's many beautiful parks, such as Beihai Park, which was probably built by the Great Khan centuries earlier than the Forbidden City. This park was enjoyed by the various rulers of China for hundreds of years and features pavilions, architecturally interesting walkways, the 27-meter-long (about 88 feet) Nine Dragon Screen (built to scare off evil spirits), a jar that is the last remnant of the Khan's court that had been there, the Five Dragon Pavilion dating from the mid 1600's, and a large lake with an island in the middle. Another park that is a definite "must see" is the Summer Palace, a famous classic imperial garden with breathtaking beauty. Bold and generously designed, the northern gardens skillfully blend into the exquisite delicacy of the southern gardens. The Summer Palace holds a special place in the history of Chinese gardens. These are only two of the many majestic gardens in Beijing. Sometimes, you can find exceptional gardens within or surrounding Beijing's many ancient temples.Beijing has many beautiful temples that at one time served as the focus for religious life. Temple of Heaven is the largest group of structures in the country dedicated to rituals that pay homage to heaven. This temple was built specifically for the worship of heaven and prayers for good harvests during the time of theMing and Qing dynasties. There are two amazing acoustical spots here. On the top of the tri-leveled round altar (originally built in the 1500's) there is a spot where your words reverberate around you. You can easily imagine the power that temporal rulers felt as their prayers for abundance echoed as if they issued down from the heavens. The other is at the Echo Wall that partially encloses a circular courtyard that is 65 meters (213 feet) in diameter. Words whispered at one end travel along the wall and can be heard clearly by someone listening at the other end. The entire temple complex is a treasure of ancient Chinese architectural design and art. Symbolic shape combinations (the temples are round on square bases signifying heaven and earth) and various mystical numbers are the basis for much of the design work. The temple structures themselves are stunning works of art. All of this and more is set in the midst of a beautiful park. There are many other fascinating temples in Beijing, among which are: the Yunju Temple, which houses the most stone inscriptions of Buddhist scriptures in the world, the White Cloud Taoist Temple, which is one of the oldest and still the most active of Taoist temples in Beijing, and the Temple of Confucius. Visiting these temples can help elucidate three primary philosophies that formed the basis for early Chinese life and culture. For example, much of traditional Chinese medicine's principles and theories were derived from the work of Taoist doctors and masters. The largest city central square in the world, the solemn and respectful Tiananmen Square is not only the symbol of Beijing but also the symbol of China. This immense courtyard is the site of many historic events. The square is surrounded by a variety of significant edifices: Chinese Revolution History Museum, Mao Mausoleum, Great Hall of the People, the elegant and beautiful Tiananmen (Heavenly Peace Gate), and Qianmen (Front Gate). The daily flag ceremony at the square, performed at sunrise and sunset each day, is most exceptional and well-worth making time to view.Zhong Nan Hai The Great Wall is one of the eight wonders of the world and is the only man-made structure that is visible from the moon. This immense wall was built to keep out invaders as well as to retain the inhabitants. It spans five provinces (6,700 kilometers, or 2,587 miles) from Shanhaiguan Pass in the east to Jiayuguan Pass in the west. Like a gigantic dragon, it winds up and down across deserts, grasslands and mountains. Just outside Beijing, it is possible to climb a section of the Great Wall and enjoy a splendid panoramic view that you will remember for the rest of your life.Other famous Beijing attractions include the Ming Tombs, the burial site of 13 ancient emperors; the Drum Tower built in the 1400's; Tiantan Park with its excellent Ming architectures; Fragrant Hills Park; the Ancient Observatory that dates back to the days of Kublai Khan; The Silk Market; Botanical Gardens; the Indian-designed Temple of Azure Clouds and many, many more wondrousplaces. Any reader of the classic The Dream of Red Mansions will want to visit Prince Gong's Mansion of the 18th Century, which is purported to be the model for mansion in the novel.HistoryHow can one city boast so many phenomenal places? Beijing's long and illustrious history starts approximately 500,000 years ago. It is here that the ancestors of modern Homo sapiens, Peking men, lived in caves. Records show that Beijing has been an inhabited city for more than three thousand years and has lived through invasions, devastating fires, dynasties, warlords, Anglo-French troops and has emerged each time as a strong and vibrant city. For more than 800 years, Beijing was a capital city - from the Yuan Dynasty to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Thirty-four emperors have lived and ruled in Beijing and it has been an important trading city from earliest days. Although now Beijing is modern, fashionable and full of 21st Century vitality, you can experience authentic Beijing life and become acquainted with "old Beijing" by exploring many tea houses, temple fares, Beijing's Hutong and Courtyard and enjoy the Peking Opera. Adding these to your Beijing tour, you will leave feeling in your heart a special appreciation for this ancient city that has truly seen it all and tells its story with matchless grace and beauty.China Silk Carpet GalleryWhen to goBeijing is close to Tianjin Municipality and is partially surrounded by Hebei Province.
