A few days before Christmas, they and their leaders delivered the finished handiwork.Through the years,we proudly hung up her wreath each Christmas. In 1986,the wreath was hanging on our door as usual when the temperature on Christmas Day reached 80 degrees. The adhesive began to break down and the pine cones started falling all over our front porch. We took the wreath down, planning to repair it,and gathered up the pine cones. 2019届 高考英语复习 基础阅读理解 Should “Stars” Be Dimmed?课文原文及

2019届 高考英语复习 基础阅读理解 Should “Stars” Be Dimmed?课文原文及

Should “Stars” Be Dimmed?Shanghai is a poor place for astronomy fans (天文爱好者). The bright city lights make it almost impossible for them (or anyone) to see stars in the night sky. Instead, the stars they (and “we”) are more likely to watch are the ones that appear on TV screens and in movie theaters. And it’s these stars, the human kind, that one government office wishes to see “dimmed.”The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has issued new rules that would limit the amount of money paid to China’s biggest stars. According to SARFT, the big salaries that stars demand and get mean that others involved in producing movies and TV series, such as the rest of the cast members, the directors, scriptwriters (编剧) and technicians, are paid less and the overall quality of these productions suffer.Whether this is true or not is debatable, but it is true that a star’s big salary is often the largest part of a production’s budget. Joe Austin, who works for a Beijing talent agency, says, “Actors in China are making a ton of money at the moment.” For example, Zhou Xun, who starred in the TV adaptation of Mo Yan’s novel Red Sorghum (《红高粱》), is paid 95 million yuan for each movie. The actress Angelababy gets 80 million yuan for a starring role. Internationally famous Fan Bingbing seems like a bargain at only 30 million yuan. While these salaries may seem sky-high to SARFT, they accurately reflect the market —the law of supply and demand. And show business, after all, is a business. So, in order to ensure the success of a film or TV series, producers want someone who can “op en a picture” —a star whose name and reputation will guarantee a big audience.By limiting star salaries and “dimming” their glitter (光亮), SARFT thinks that producers will spread the money around to the rest of the crew (剧组), and spend more on “production values”—sets (布景), costumes and special effects. Maybe. But not necessarily. Limiting star salaries would probably just mean more money for the producers. A better solution might be to give stars a smaller salary but also a percentage of the profits, in effect making them business partners. This is quite common in Hollywood and sometimes results in stars making much more money.Overall, SARFT shouldn’t be too worried about star salaries. In a market economy, it’s the audience/consumer that really decides a star’s value.教案PRE-READING1. Which of the following stars do you like best? Why? How much do you think they usually earn for a role?2. The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT)has issued many rules in recent years. What are they about? 2019届高考英语二轮题海特训营:(4)阅读理解 细节理解四 Word版含解析(1)

阅读理解-细节理解四1、 A new commodity brings about a highly profitable,fast-growing industry, urging antitrust(反垄断)regulators to step in to check those who control its flow. A century ago ,the resource in question was oil. Now similar concerns ares being raised by the giants(巨头)that deal in data, the oil of the digital age. The most valuable firms are Google,Amazon, Facebook and Microsoft. All look unstoppable.Such situations have led to calls for the tech giants to be broken up. But size alone is not a crime,The giants' success has benefited consumers. Few want to live without search engines or a quick delivery, Far from charging consumers high prices, many of these services are free (users pay, in effect, by handing over yet more data). And the appearance of new-born giants suggests that newcomers can make waves, too.But there is cause for concern. The internet has made data abundant, all-present and far more valuable, changing the nature of data and competition. Google initially used the data collected from users to target advertising better. But recently it has discovered that data can be turned into new services: translation and visual recognition, to be sold to other companies. Internet companies’ control of data gives them enormous power. So they have a “God’s eye view” of activities in their own markets and beyond. This nature of data makes the antitrust measures of the past less useful. Breaking up firms like Google into five small ones would not stop remaking themselves: in time, one of them would become great again. A rethink is required—and as a new approach starts to become apparent, two ideas stand out.The first is that antitrust authorities need to move form the industrial age into the21st century. When considering a merger(兼并),for example, they have traditionally used size to determine when to step in. They now need to take into account the extent of firms' data assets(资产) when assessing the impact of deals. The purchase price could also be a signal that an established company is buying a new-borm threat. When this takes place, especially when anew-born company has no revenue to speak of, the regulators should raise red flags. The second principle is to loosen the control that providers of on-line services have over data and give more to those who supply panies could be forced to consumers whatinformation they hold and how many money they make form emments could order the sharing of certain kinds of data, with users' consent.Restarting antitrust for the information age will not be easy But if govemments don't wants a data oconomy by a few giants, they must act soon.1.Why is there a call to break up giants?A.They have controlled the data marketB.They collect enormous private dataC.They no longer provide free servicesD.They dismissed some new-born giants2.What does the technological innovation in Paragraph 3 indicate?A.Data giants’ technology is very expensiveB.Google’s idea is popular among data firmsC.Data can strengthen giants’ controlling posit ionD.Data can be turned into new services or products3.By paying attention to firms’ data assets, antitrust regulators could .A.kill a new threatB.avoid the size trapC.favour bigger firmsD.charge higher prices4.What is the purpose of loosening the giants’ control of data?A.Big companies could relieve data security pressure.ernments could relieve their financial pressure.C.Consumers could better protect their privacy.D.Small companies could get more opportunities.2 、El Nino, a Spanish term for “the Christ child”, was named by South American fisherman who noticed that the global weather pattern, which happens every two to seven years, reduced the amount of fishes caught around Christmas. El Nifio sees warm water, collected over several years in the western Pacific, flow back eastwards when winds that normally blow westwards weaken, or sometimes the other way round. The weather effects both good and bad, are felt in many places. Rich countries gain more from powerful Niños, on balance, than they lose. A study found that a strong Niño in 1997 helped American’s economy grow by 15 billion, partly because of better agricultural harvest, farmers in the Midwest gained from extra rain. The total rise in agricultural in rich countries in growth than the fall in poor ones. But in Indonesia extremely dry forests are in flames. A multi-year drought (干旱)insouth-east Brazil is becoming worse. Though heavy rains brought about by El Niño may relieve the drought in California, they are likely to cause surface flooding and other disasters. The most recent powerful Niño, in 1997-98, killed around 21,000 people and caused damage worth $36 billion around the globe. But such Niños come with months of warning, and so much is known about how they happen that governments can prepare. According to the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), however, just 12% of disaster-relief funding in the past two decades has gone on reducing risks in advance, rather than recovery and rebuilding afterwards. This is despite evidence that a dollar spent on risk-reduction saves at least two on reconstruction.Simple improvements to infrastructure (基础设施)can reduce the spread of disease. Better sewers (下水道)make it less likely that heavy rain is followed by an outbreak of the disease of bad stomach. Stronger bridges mean villages are less likely to be left without food and medicine after floods. According to a paper in 2011 by Mr Hsiang and co-authors, civil conflict is related to El Niño's harmful effects—and the poorer the country, the stronger the link. Though the relationship may not be causal, helping divided communities to prepare for disasters would at least reduce the risk that those disasters are followed by killing and wounding people. But Xing Pu, a 40-year-old economist, is asking the government to give red packets to every Chinese citizen.Xing suggested the government give out 1,000 yuan to each Chinese since the government income has increased rapidly in recent years. He said his suggestion would allow everyone to directly enjoy the fruits of the country’s economic success, help the lower-income groups deal with rising prices and increase consumption(消费)around the country.Recent years have seen the government carry out a series of pro-poor(扶贫)and pro-rural(惠农)policies(政策),including increasing spending on public health-care and cutting down the agricultural tax. But the lower-income group still needs more help.Xing said he has borrowed many ideas from practices in countries like theUnited StatesandSingapore. Earlier this year, the governments of the two nations offered cash handouts(救济)to their citizens. As for inChina, “We can even encourage the rich to donate their 1,000 yuan red packet to the poor,” said Xing.Although Xing’s suggestion has gained wide support among ordinary Chinese on the Internet, many other economists criticized it as unpractical. “To better use the increase of money, handing out money is not a solution that holds good for all time. But where did it come from?Rock began in the USA in the early 1950s. Personally Nike is my favorite one—it’s so simple. And I liked the stories behind them, which made me forget all other things. McDonald’s, Apple, Mercedes Benz and Ad idas own great logos as well, and they are among my favorites.NikeIn the Greek myth, Nike is the goddess of victory and the source of inspiration for soldiers. This logo represents the wing in the famous statue of the Greek goddess. Nike’s logo w as designed by Carolyn Davidson in 1971 for $ 35, and was registered as a trademark in 1995.McDonald’sThe logo was designed in 1962 by Jim Schindler to resemble the arch shaped (拱形的) signs on the side of the company’s then walk-up hamburger stand. Later on, the two golden arches were combined together to form the M. The McDonald’s name was added to the logo in 1968.AppleThere are different stories behind Apple’s logo. The first logo was a reference to the religious story of Adam and Eve, in which the apple represented the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. One year later, the second logo was designed in 1977 by Steven Jobs and Ronald Wayne, and it described Sir Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. This logo didn’t stay long. One year later it was replaced almost immediately by graphic designer Rob Janoff’s “rainbow apple”, arainbow-colored silhouette (轮廓) of an apple with a bite taken out of it. And then therainbow-colored apple was replaced by the one-colored logo in 1998. It has not been changed so far.Mercedes BenzThe Mercedes Benz logo, which was originally created by Gottlieb Daimler in 1909, consists of a simple description of a three- pointed star that represents its rule of the land, the sea and the air. The company was founded by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. Mercedes is the name of Maybach’s elder daughter, while Benz came as a result of a combination with Benz, Cie. and DMG in 1926.1.What does the author think of the stories of the great logos?A.They are boring.B.They are attractiveC.They are out of date.D.They are practical2.What does Nike’s logo stand for?A.The goddess of victoryB.The source of inspiration for soldiersC.The wing of the Greek goddessD.The statue of the Greek goddess3.We can learn that Apple’s present logo is______.A.the religious story of Adam and EveB.Newton’s sitting under an apple treeC.a bitten apple with only one colorD.the rainbow-colored bitten apple4.Which of the following time orders describes the births of the great logos?A.Nike –McDonald’s – Apple – Mercedes Benz.B.Mercedes Benz –McDonald’s – Nike – Apple.C.Mercedes Benz – Apple – Nike –McDonald’s.D.Nike –Mercedes Benz –McDonald’s – Apple.答案以及解析1答案及解析:答案:1.A; 2.C; 3.B; 4.D解析:1.推理判断题,根据第二段第一句中的“Such situation"可知答案在第一段,第一段暗示出分化商业巨头的原因是他们控制了数据市场, 故答案为A项。

Some students think Internet Slang is vivid, fashionable and full of humor and intelligence. Besides, it makes chatting on the Internet quicker. However, some other students think Internet Slang lacks depth of thought and is too simple. Also, it is hard to understand and not accepted by most people. The words sometimes might make people confused, even resulting in misunderstanding.Every coin has two sides. In my opinion, living in the Information Age, if we don’t know the Internet Slang, we seem to fall behind the times. It will be OK as long as these terms are used correctly in proper situations.二、书面表达随着人们生活水平的提高,“广场舞大妈”们掀起了一场广场舞热潮,甚至把广场舞跳出了国门。

Pilot of the plane was Captain Thomas Nash. Looking eastward, Nash saw twelve orange lights in a row, moving at an extremely high speed. As an experienced flyer, he had never seen anything like them. Thinking that they might be a new German weapon, he decided to follow them. But when he swung the plane around and headed directly for the lights, they disappeared.Captain Nash may have been the fi rst to see such orange lights but he wasn’t the last. Hisexperience was repeated several times by pilots during World War II in Europe and the Far East. What were they? No one knows for sure, but there is an interesting theory to explain them.According to this theory, the orange lights are space animals—animals specially adapted to life in the upper atmosphere just as some creatures are adapted to life at the bottom of the sea. These space animals, the theory says, live so far up in the atmosphere that they are invisible from the earth. Theyfeed in part on the air and partly on energy from sunlight. Being almost pure energy themselves, they can give light at night. During the day they become invisible. Before World War II, continues the theory, there was little radiated energy available on theearth’s surface. Then came the development of rockets, atomic reactor(核反应堆), and hydroelectric(水力发电的)plants. The space creatures are attracted by these sources of energy. At night when no energy is sent from sunlight, they go down into the lower levels to search a meal. They may even come into the scope of human eyesight. This explains the fact that they have been sighted now and then from the earth since 1942.67.Which of the following best states the main idea of the passage?A.The secret of nature can be completely explained.B.Captain Nash may have been the first to see the lights in space.C.Captain Nash saw twelve orange lights moving at a high speed.D.According to an interesting theory, the orange lights are space animals.68.The strange orange lights were first seen .A.from the ground B.from a rocket shipC.during World War I D.during World War II69.The theory says that during the daytime the space animals .A.can’t be seen B.shine brightly in the skyC.can been seen from the earth D.visit the earth’s surface70.If the space theory is true, the creatures go down to the lower places in order to .A.make connection with man B.search for man-made energyC.attract curiosity D.escape detectionEDrunken driving –sometimes called America’s socially accepted Array form of murder-has become a national epidemic(流行病). Every hourof every day about three Americans on average are killed by drunkendrivers, adding up to an incredible 250,000 over the past ten years. Adrunken driver is usually referred to as one with 0.10-blood alcoholcontent or roughly three beer glasses of wine or shots of whisky drunk within two hours. Heavydrinking used to be an acceptable part of the American manly image and judges were lenient in mostcourts, but the drunken killing has recently caused so many well-publicized tragedies, especiallyconcerning young children, that public opinion is no longer so tolerant(忍受).Twenty states have raised the legal drinking age to 21, reversing a trend(逆转潮流)in the1960s to reduce it to 18. After New Jersey lowered it to 18, the number of people killed by18-20-year-old drivers more than doubled, so the state recently upped it back to 21.Reformers, however, fear raising the drinking age will have little effect unless accompanied byeducational programs to help young people to develop “responsible attitudes” about drinking and teach them to resist peer pressure to drink.Though new laws have led to increased arrests and tests in many areas already, to a marked drop in accidents, some states are also punishing bars for serving customers too many drinks. A bar in Massachusetts was fined for serving six or more double brandies to a customer who was “obviously drunk” and later dro ve off the road, killing a nine-year-old boy.As the accidents continue to occur daily in every state, some Americans are even beginning to speak well of the 13 years national prohibition(禁令)of alcohol that began in 1919, which President Hoover called the “noble experiment”. They forgot that legal prohibition didn’t stop drinking, but encouraged political corruption(腐败)and organized crime. As with the booming drug trade generally, there is no easy solution.71.It can be inferred from the passage that drunken driving has become a major problem in the United States because .A.most Americans like drinkingB.heavy drinking is hard to avoidC.many Americans are killed by traffic accidentsD.Americans are not shocked by traffic accidents72.What can be inferred from the fact of the traffic accidents in New Jersey?A.Young drivers were usually bad.B.The legal drinking age should be raised.C.Some drivers didn’t surprise the legal drinking age.D.Drivers should not be allowed to drink.73.The underlined word “lenient” in the first paragraph means .A.merciful B.cruel C.serious D.determined74.As regards drunken driving, public opinion has changed because .A.judges are no longer lenientB.new laws are introduced in some statesC.drivers do not appreciate their manly imageD.the problem has attracted public attention75.Which of the following statements best shows the writer’s opinion of drunken driving?A.It is difficult to solve this problem.B.It may lead to organized crime.C.The new laws can stop heavy drinkingD.There should be no bars to serve drinks.参考答案56.B 57.B 58.D 59.B 60.C 61.C 62.A 63.D 64.A 65.B 66.B 67.D 68.D 69.A 70.B 71.C 72.B 73.A 74.D 75.A。

The four men marked their route on an app before using it track their journey around Perth. When uploaded to the computer, it was shown as a picture. Cyclist Ben Jones said the group settled on a goat because it was an easy animal to draw. He said the ride lasted more than six hours, with the four men stopping only for food, and flat tyres . "Except for riding 202km, it's relatively simple," Mr. Jones told the BBC. "You mainly mark your route on the app and it plans directions out."GPS art has also been widely used by runners and other cyclists when they travel out. Mr. Jones said his group wanted to shake up their normal weekend ride. "We all ride l0,000km to 15,000km a year," he said. "Mostly we just ride together as mates and have a good time - that's what this was about."The group received much attention after posting their map to social media this week. Others described Mr. Jones as a goat guy in an interview on Australian television. For their next piece of GPS art, the group plans to draw a local animal such as the koala. "Certainly, there'll be something coming, for we are making our decisions to put more and more plans into practice. You’re not alone. Everyone has received an unwanted gift at least once in his or her life. That doesn’t mean the item is bad or useless. It simply means that it doesn’t work for you.If you find yourself with something nice but that doesn’t fit into your lifestyle, consider regifting it. Before you do that, make sure you understand the manners of this practice that is more and more common as people find it difficult to make ends meet to a great extent. There are specific things you should do to an item. Failure to do any of them may create an awkward situation. You never have to lie about what you are doing, but you don’t want to be in the position of having to explain anything. For example, remove the original wrapping paper and rewrap it in your own; make sure the box is in good condition so the item doesn’t appear used; check t he item and make sure there are no cards or names on the packaging; inspect the item and make sure it is in excellent condition. When you get ready for regifting, consider having a white elephant gift exchange for your next celebration.
