My name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. Today I want to tell you all about the super cool new ways people are getting from place to place these days. Getting around used to be pretty boring if you ask me - just cars, buses, trains and planes. But thanks to some crazy new inventions, traveling is becoming way more fun and exciting! One of the newest and zippiest ways to travel is by electric scooters and electric bikes. You've probably seen people zipping down the street standing up on these little platforms with two wheels. They're called e-scooters and they're powered by a rechargeable battery instead of gasoline. A lot of bigger cities have companies that let people rent the e-scooters through an app on their phone. You just scan the code to unlock one, ride it to where you need to go, then leave it there for the next person. How neat is that? The e-bikes are kind of like souped-up versions of regular bicycles. They've got a little motor that gives you an "oomph" to go faster and get up hills easier. My friend Caleb's parents got him one for his birthday and he lets me ride it sometimes. You still pedal like a regular bike, but the motor makes it feel like you're being pushed along by an invisible force. We can cruise clear across town without even breaking a sweat! Maybe Santa will bring me one this year if I'm really good. Some other awesome new transportation methods involve cars that can drive themselves without anyone controlling them. They're called self-driving or autonomous cars. The cars have sensors that detect everything around them - other cars, pedestrians, traffic lights, etc. A computer program analyzes the data from the sensors and makes decisions like when to accelerate, brake or turn. Self-driving cars are still pretty new, but companies like Waymo, Cruise and Uber are testing them out in cities like San Francisco and Phoenix.I'm not old enough to drive yet, but I can imagine it would be really convenient to just tell the car where you want to go and then kick back and play video games or read comics while it does all the driving for you. No more annoying commutes to and from school! The car could even go pick up my friends and bring themalong for the ride. Then when we get to the soccer field or skatepark, it could just drive off and pick us up later. So awesome!Taking things to new heights (get it?) are all the flying cars and personal air vehicles that companies are working on. A flying car is pretty much exactly what it sounds like - a vehicle that can drive on normal roads but also takeoff and fly through the air like a plane or helicopter. That way you could drive it to a nearby landing pad, take off straight up and just soar over all the traffic down below. No more gridlock for you! Some of the flying car prototypes look like cars with detachable wings and drone-like propellers. Others look more like dune buggies with giant drone props sticking out the sides.A couple different companies like Joby and Archer are also working on bigger electric air taxis that could pick you up from special landing pads on the tops of buildings and fly you across town. Basically like airborne Uber rides! They say the first ones might start appearing in big cities like Los Angeles and Miami as soon as 2024 or 2025. I'll definitely be one of the first kids in line to go for a spin when that happens. But let's not forget some of the older new transportation methods too, like high-speed rail and super-fast pods that travelthrough vacuum tubes. Japan has had bullet trains for years that can go over 200 mph, but new maglev trains that use magnetic levitation could go even faster in the future - maybe up to 370 mph! Just imagine getting from New York to Los Angeles in under 5 hours instead of a long plane flight. Or zipping across country aboard a vacuum train pod traveling at over 600 mph through a sealed tube with no air resistance. Too crazy!Speaking of crazy, some really smart people are even working on hyper-sonic planes that could fly at over 3,800 mph - more than 5 times the speed of sound! NASA and some private companies are designing new scramjet engines that could allow flight at those ultra-high speeds. The big catch is they would only be able to go that fast once they made it up past the atmosphere. But they say it could allow trips from London to Sydney in just a few hours instead of over 24 hours on a regular jet. I'd love to zip across the entire planet in the time it now takes to watch a couple movies. Sign me up!With all these wild new transportation technologies being developed, the tired old days of simply driving or flying places seem destined to become prehistoric. Why be stuck in traffic or waiting around in airports when you could be effortlessly riding, flying, zipping and zooming your way around. It's definitely anexciting era for new ways to get from point A to point B. I can't wait to get my hands on all the fresh futuristic travel methods when I'm old enough. Until then, maybe my parents will let me ride a hoverboard at least! Now that would be a great way to roll into school each morning...篇3The Way We Get Around Has Really Changed!Hi there! My name is Sam and I'm going to tell you all about how transportation has changed over the years. It's pretty wild stuff when you think about it. The ways people get from one place to another today are so different from what my parents and grandparents grew up with. Let me explain! When my grandparents were kids, the main ways to travel were by walking, riding a bike, taking a train, or driving a car that ran on gasoline. Horses and buggies were still around back then too, especially in rural areas. Can you imagine having to get everywhere just by walking or riding a horse? No thanks! My dad remembers when he was little, families usually only had one car to share. He had to walk or take the bus a lot as a kid. The buses ran on gasoline and diesel fuel back then, just like carsdid. They would spew out smelly exhaust that wasn't good for the environment.Nowadays, we have so many amazing high-tech transportation options. Electric cars have become really popular. They run on big rechargeable batteries instead of gasoline, so they don't pollute the air with emissions. Some of them can even drive themselves using sensors and computers! That seems like something from a sci-fi movie.Another new thing that has taken off is ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft. With an app on your smartphone, you can summon a driver to come pick you up anywhere and take you where you need to go. It's like having your own private taxi, except the whole experience is cashless and automated.Bike-sharing systems have also popped up in many cities. You just scan a code to unlock a bike from a docking station, ride it to your destination, and leave it at another dock when you're done. Such an easy way to get some exercise while being environmentally friendly!Of course, public transportation has upgraded a lot too. Modern buses, trains, and subways are often electric, hybrid, or use cleaner fuels. The interiors are usually much nicer than the old dirty ones my parents had to ride. Many systems use digitalscreens and automated announcements to give you updates in real-time.One of the most game-changing innovations has beenride-sharing electric scooters and bikes. Companies have flooded cities with these affordable little electric vehicles that you can just pick up and drop off anywhere using an app. They're super convenient for short trips around town without needing your own set of wheels.Flying has transformed too. While huge airplanes were already a thing in my grandparents' era, air travel has become much more affordable and efficient. Airplanes today are bigger, faster, and burn less fuel thanks to better engine technology. Many airports use ultra-modern terminals with automation to move people through more quickly. We can't forget about all the delivery drones either! My mind was blown the first time I saw a little unmanned aerial vehicle lower a package onto our front porch. Baby boomers and Gen Xers definitely didn't have robot air mail carriers when they were kids. So cool! Some people have even taken to zooming around using jetpacks or futuristic one-person flying devices. That's some real-life Iron Man type of stuff right there. Electric verticaltake-off and landing vehicles, or eVTOLs, may become a practical way for people to just fly over traffic jams in the near future. Wild!Of course, not every new transportation technology has caught on yet. I vividly remember when automakers were hyping up the idea of flying cars years ago. While they've made some prototypes, I still haven't seen any actual flying cars being sold to regular people. Maybe that'll be the next big leap in how we get around? While transportation has modernized in so many fascinating ways, we've still kept some old favorites too. Plenty of people still choose to walk or ride a basic bicycle for exercise and fresh air. Trains might be sleeker now, but railroads have been vital for transportation for generations. And yes, good old gas-powered cars with aman behind the wheel are still super common on the roads today. My dad loves tinkering with his vintage sports car from when he was younger. He says there's just something classic and timeless about driving yourself using Petroleum power sometimes. No matter what futuristic transportation trends arise, I'm sure we'll always have a nostalgic appreciation for the simple ways we used to get around back in the day. Transportation hascome such a long way already though! Can you imagine what mindblowingmethods might show up in the years ahead? I can't wait to see what the next big world-changing innovation in how we travel will be.Aren't you glad you don't have to ride a horse everywhere anymore? Getting from place to place has never been cooler, quicker, or more convenient than it is today. The possibilities seem endless for how we could reinvent the way we move across town or trek around the entire planet. I, for one, am stoked to see what incredible new transportation advancements await us in the decades to come!。
