A: Good afternoon! Welcome to Radio English Service, this is 73.9M—your old friend, RES. OK! A fine day, isn‟t it?

B: Yes! It is spring which is a beautiful season and a lot of flowers are in blooming.

A: Besides, girls are in colorful clothes such as yellow dress, green blouse as well as beautiful fiaras. Let‟s come to our first part—western culture.

B: Today we will talk about lies.

A: Most people say that they find social lying acceptable and necessary, which is the civilized way for folds to behave.

B: I know white lies are very common in England. Without these little lies, their relationship would be short and brutish and nasty.

A: Yeah，it‟s arrogant to insist on being so incorruptible and so brave that you cause other people unnecessary embarrassment or pain by compulsively assailing them with our honesty,.

B: In China, there are varieties of lies, not only white lies. As we all know, we need to lie in some special situation especially with the officials. A: Do you know these words below?

I like your new hairdo/You are looking better/ It‟s so nice to see you/I have a wonderful time…..

B: That‟s so common in our daily life, and it‟s easy for us to say like this. A: there are some men who prefer to tell the truth, and they said that “I can‟t play that game and I am simply made that way,

B: I think they must treat their credibility as their lives. They think telling lies is morally wrong.

A: Well, everyone has his point, and it all depends. Have you ever heard Peace—keeping lies?

B: yes, it‟s designed to avoid irritation or argument. Besides, it‟s also can be used to shelter the liar from possible blame or pain.

A: You only got partly. It is rationalized designed to keep trouble at bay without hurting anyone.

B: Someone tell these lies at times, and yet they always feel they are wrong.

A: Why?

B: They understand why they tell them, but still feel wrong. If you tell these lies, you would feel guilty, coward and you are dodging responsibility.

A:I know. When you are late for a date because you overslept, and you say that you are late because you got caught in a traffic jam. More situations like this: when you forget to call your friends, say that you called several times but the line was busy/ When you didn‟t remember that it was your father‟s birthday, say that his present must be delayed

in the mail

B: Wow! Why do people have so many lies? That‟s too terrible. I think it nothing serious, but that‟s too easy for us to tell lies.

A: I can‟t agree more. But sometime it sounds harmless.

B: you asked me the peace—keeping lies, now it‟s my turn to ask you what is the yellow lies? What you told me right now is the blue lies. A: let me see…… sorry, I don‟t know.

B: Aha…..you don‟t know. The answer is Protective lies. They occur to people when they didn‟t have enough courage to face truth

A: You say they tell lies because they feel there are certain human values that supersede the wrong of having lied.

B: You are so clever. Yes ,but these lies are very serious and it deserve forgiving.

A: I know when people who are suffering from the cancer and will die soon, they may lie to their relatives so that they can‟t be grief for their death.

B: Sounds so moved, but when the death comes, the relatives must be disintegrated.

A: Furthermore, let‟s be honest if conditions were reversed, we certainly would not want anyone lying to us.

B: Of course! It‟s my belief that once we have promised to keep a trust, we must tell lies to keep it.
