But it quickly ramps up to more challenging stuff like lectures, news broadcasts, and even movie clips and TV show excerpts. The variety has been good for building up different listening skills.One thing I've found really tough is understanding different accents and varieties of English. The book has listening samples from American English, British English, Australian English and more. At first, the different pronunciations and speech patterns really threw me for a loop. But repeated practice is helping me get more accustomed to comprehending diverse English speakers.Another challenge has been dealing with background noise, overlapping speech, and other audio distractions. A lot of the more advanced listening exercises incorporate those types of real-world sounds. It's crazy how much those factors can impact your ability to clearly understand what's being said. I'm having to concentrate incredibly hard to tune out the noise and chaos. Definitely gets my ears in shape for listening under tough conditions!To be honest, some of the listening material has been a bit dry – things like long-winded academic lectures or technical instructions. My interest and focus can sometimes drift. But thebook does try to incorporate higher interest subjects and topics too like clips from movies, TV shows, interviews and documentaries.
