Cat behavior can often be puzzling and confusing to humans. Veterinarian Dr Katrina Warren shares her expertise on some common and strange cat behaviors to help you understand why your cat behaves the way it does.Scratching is a natural behavior for cats, It's how they make their paws sharper. If cats do not have a suitable surface to scratch, they will choose your furniture or carpet. To protect your furniture, provide atleast two scratching posts. These posts need to be stable so they don't rock or tip over. Cats tend to scratch when they wake in the morning, so place one post close to where they sleep.Cats love high places, which give them a sense of safety and allow them to watch everything goingbelow. And make sure you have several cat items in front of windows so your cat can look outside. If your cat can watch from high up and see the world outside of his home, he is less likely to climb onto the kitchen cupboard and knock down the bowls. They have the surprising ability to tie themselves in knots without any difficulty. They curl up in unconventional beds, like vases, because they have special bones on the back that allow them to do this. And they take great pride in showing this to you continuously. If cats eat grass, there are several reasons. They may be seeking the nutrients in the grass or they may have an upset stomach, which needs inducing vomiting(催吐). It is not a problem if your cat enjoys eating grass, just ensure it hasn't been treated with pesticides. Alternatively, offer your cat a pot of clean cat grass tochew, especially indoor cats. If you have any concerns about your cat's behavior or frequency vomiting, please talk with your vet.A.Sleeping positions of cats are unusual.B.They need nutrients in the grass more.C.Having a rough surface is also required.D.This is available from most plant gardens.E.However, there's often an explanation for their actions.F.Meanwhile, high places offer them larger space to jump.G.Put up several shelves so your cat can leap from one to another.◆练习二:Finish the exercise and write down your reasons.➢ 1.
如一些表示转折的连词,but, However, yet, though, nevertheless等,另外还有一些表示并列关系的连词如and, also, as well as, neither nor, either or, not only...but also, on one hand....on the other hand等。

【课前预测】Passage 1 Evaluating Sources(来源)of Health Information Making good choices about your own health requires reasonable evaluation. A key first step in bettering your evaluation ability is to look carefully at your sources of health information. Reasonable evaluation includes knowing where and how to find relevant information, how to separate fact from opinion, how to recognize poor reasoning, and how to analyze information and the reliability of sources.71Go to the original source. Media reports often simplify the results of medical research. Find out for yourself what a study really reported, and determine whether it was based on good science. Think about the type of study. 72Watch for misleading language. Some studies will find that a behavior “contributes to〞or is “associated with〞an outcome; this does not mean that a certain course must lead to a certain result.73Carefully read or listen to information in order to fully understand it.Use your common sense. If a report seems too good to be true, probably it is.

One important question that you might ask yourself is: “How do I get a good job?” 1There are people who can answer an insignificant(不重要的)advertisement in the local paper and land the best job in the world; others write to all sorts of places all over the country, and never seem to get a reply at all. Still others believe that the in person, doortodoor approach is by far the best way to get a job; and then there are those who, through no active decision of their own, just seem to be in the right place at the right time. 2 He used to spend a lot of his free time down by the sea watching the tall ships, but never thinking that he might one day sail one of them. His father was a farmer, and being a sailor could never be anything for the boy but an idle dream. Without stopping to think, the lad(少年) offered to take his place. 34 If the lad had gone home to ponder(考虑)his decision for a week, he may have missed his chance. Most long-distance trains, especially the sleeping car accommodations, sell out very quickly. 36 But no matter when you travel, it's a good idea to make your reservations at least 90 days in advance.Use a travel agent. (1)Trust is a risk. But you can’t be successful when there’s a lack of trust in a relationship that results from an action where the wrongdoer takes no responsibility to fix the mistake.Unfortunately ,we‘ve all been victims of betrayal. Whether we’ve been stolen from, lied to ,misled, or cheated on ,there are different levels of losing trust. Sometimes people simply can’t trust anymore. (2)It’s understandable, but if you’re willing to build trust in a relationship again, we have some steps you can take to get you there.●(3)Having confidence in yourself will help you make better choices because you can see what the best outcome would be for your well-being.●(4)If you’ve been betrayed ,you are the victim of your circumstance. But there’s a difference between being a victim and living with a“victim mentality”.At some point in all of our lives ,we’ll have our trust tested or violated.● You didn’t lose“everything”.Once trust is lost, what is left? Instead of looking at the situation from this hopeless angle, look at everything you still have and be thankful for all of the good in your life. (5)Instead, it’s a healthy way to work through the experience to allow room for positive growth and forgiveness.A. Learn to really trust yourself.B. It is putting confidence in someone.C. Stop regarding yourself as the victim.D. Remember that you can expect the best in return.E. They’ve been too badly hurt and they can’t bear to let it happen again.F. It is very hard to break a code without the code book.B. In any language, some letters are used more than others.C. Only people who know the keyword can read the message.D.
