V. Error correction(短文改错)(共10小题;每小题1 分,计10 分) During rush hour, a Canadian man and his teenage son got on the cab and asked me to take them to La Guardia airport. They were going back to Canada. We had a nice conversation altogether and when they got out, they gave me a good tip. When my next passenger got in, he handed me a wallet and says he found it on the back seat. I immediately knew it belonged to Canadian man. It contained a driving license and a credit card, nothing much else. Now, I liked the Canadian guy, so I found the 800 number on the back of the credit card and phoned the company. I explained all what happened and gave them his number. After about half an hour, the Canadian guy called and asked me to go back to the airport and return the wallet. So I started for the airport. Five or six people tried to stop me as I was driving through the city, then I didn’t stop. I was doing a good thing! Forty minutes later, I arrived at La Guardia. The guy was standing outside the terminal building and looked pretty stressed. I gave back the wallet and told him that I only did a little shopping with his credit card! It was just a joke. He was so unhappy and just laughed.“You’re my favourite New Yorker,”he said. Then he handed me fifty dollars and ran back into the airport. The whole thing- plus the fifty dollars - really made my night.

In 1957 he was diagnosed with cancer, and given only days to live. He heard tumors the size of oranges. He heard that scientists had discovered a new medication, Kerbionzen, which was effective against cancer, and he begged his doctor to give him the drug. His physician, Dr Philip West, finally agreed. Such robots usually look like boxes with wheels. Though these robots are useful, however, they are extremely expensive-they break easily and they are cannot do very many tasks. Because of these problems, scientists have been working on a new and unusual kind of robot. These new robots will look and move like snakes, so they have been given the name …snakebots‟.The way a snake is shaped allows it to do special things, such as getting into very small spaces, like cracks in rocks. Snakes can also push themselves underground, and climb up different kinds of objects, like rocks and trees. Such abilities account for the usefulness of robots designed like snakes, because they will be able to do these things, too. Such robots would be much more effective than regular robots with wheels. Wheeled robots easily get stuck and fall over, but snakebots would not have these problems. They could go almost anywhere and so would be useful for exploringth different environments of other planets. Since they can carry tools, snakebots would be able to work in space, as well. They could, for example, help repair the Internetion Space Station. How do you make a robot shaped like a snake? A snakebot is put together like a chain, made of about thirty parts, or modules. Each module is basically the same-they all containa computer and a wheel to aid movement. The computer in the …head‟ of the snake makes the modules work together. If one module fails, another can easily take its place. Snakebot modules can also carry different kinds of tools, as well as cameras. Since each module is actually a robot in itself, each module can work apart from the restif necessary. The snakebot design is much simpler than of most common robots. Thus, snakebots will be much less expensive to build. One of the robots sent to Mars cost a hundred million dollars to build. However, snakebots cost as little as a few dollars to make and could therefore save . enormous amounts of money on future space missions ,With their versatility and affordability , snakebots will be the way of the future; at least as far as space robots are concerned.Questions 76~80: read the passage carefully and then complete each space in the summary, using a maximum of three words from the passage.Summary:It is much easier to send robots, rather than people, into space, but scientists have found that robots with wheels are not the most (76)_____ ones. Because of my computer, I make many friends w ho have many hobbies in common. Of course, I use my computer in stud y. There are resources on the Internet. I can learn more after class. It do es great help to me.5. In 1929, three years after his flight over the North Pole, the American explorer, R.E. Byrd, successfully flew over the South Pole for the first time. Though, at first, Byrd and his team were able to take a great many photographs of the mountains that lay below, they soon ran i nto serious trouble. At one point, it seemed certain that their plane would crash. It could only get over the mountains if it rose to 10,000 feet. By rd at once ordered his partners to throw out two heavy food sacks. The plane was then able to rise and it cleared the mountains by 4000 feet.6. What is the low carbon life? We can do a lot in our daily l ife to achieve the goal of living low carbon life. First, we’d better turn off lights if possible and spend less time watching TV or surfing the Inte rnet. Saving water also matters much. Besides, we should sort out the rub bish, hoping that we might recycle some, which will surely benefit us a great deal. In addition, we suggest using handkerchiefs instead of tissues so that we can prevent more trees from being cut down. More importantly, when we go out, walking, riding bikes or taking buses should be our f irst choice, which contributes to a cleaner world.8. That was a morning in the early of June. I took a bus to m y school. The sky was gray with the gloomy clouds congregating graduall y along the far eastern horizon. "There must be a heavy rain soon." I sp oke to myself. When I hurried into the classroom, the sky, gray before, was replaced now by black clouds. Several minutes later, I saw the lighte ning split the clouds and heard the thunders following. Suddenly, the curt ain of rain fell and the wind blew. With the rain forming like a fog, the sky became bright. I took several deep breathes. I felt comfortable. The heavy rain lasted three hours and stopped when the class was over. The air was so fresh and the sky was so clear. I felt like a new man myself.9. Everything begins to grow in spring. The trees turn green, a nd the flowers come out. On the playground, in the fields, on each side of the road, the young grass grows everywhere. Spring also arrives in our school. Come and see, behind our teaching building, there are some sma ll pear trees covered with white flowers, on both sides of it, there are so me other flowers smiling at you, Some are yellow, some are red. Look, t here are some kites flying in the sky. The spring wind is blowing. The s un is shining brightly. Some boys are playing games in the sun, Listen, a group of girls are singing "Where’s spring?" It sounds like the singing of lark birds. All these make me think that spring is here, spring is ther e, and spring is just in our school.10. Elephant is the largest animal on land today. It weights some ninety kilograms and is about one meter high when born. When it is 12 years old, it grows over three meters and does not grow any more. Ele phant is usually gray in color, having a long trunk with large ivory tusks protruding from each side of its mouth. Usually moving in groups and c aring for each other. For many years people have used the strength of these powerful animals to move trees and heavy logs. Elephant is a vital to ol for people to do many things that would normally be impossible. Elep hant will continue to be one of the greatest creatures that man has ever c ome into contact with. Its size, beauty, and power will forever be useful to man.11. We wouldn't believe that it was a village. The buildings for the farmers were very beautiful, the streets were very clean and there w ere many flowers in front of the houses. In the middle of the village ther e was a school with a wonderful building and a large playground. All the children in the village study there. The farmers got richer by planting ve getables and raising silkworms. In their houses there were color TV sets, fridges, washing machines, new furniture and even motorbikes. All these s howed the farmers' life was getting better and better. The great changes h ad attracted foreigners. Today some of them would come to visit it. We were happy for the farmers. We hope the farmers will be richer and happ ier.12. The Yangtze River is the longest river in China. And it’s i mportant and helpful to Chinese. But these few days the Yangtze River is bringing us serious floods. Many villages were destroyed by floods. The floods made millions of people lose their homes, relatives and friends. Many children can’t go to school as usual. Now the foods have drawn t he attention of the whole world. People from abroad have offered their h elp too. In China, millions of soldiers are busy fighting against the flood s. They are working very hard. Many of them have lost their lives in the ir attempt to save the villagers. I believe most of the people will return t o their homeland in the near future.13. Nowadays, many Chinese can enjoy the luxury of owning a private car. Having a car of your own means no more traveling to work on crowded buses or subway trains, and you can drop off the children at school on the way. Moreover, it also means that you can enjoy the wee kends and holidays better, because with a car you can go to places where the regular buses and trains can not go. However, there are drawbacks t o own a car. For one thing, with the increase in car ownership in recent years, the roads are becoming more and more crowded, often making the journey to be a nightmare. For another, it is not cheap to run a car, the prices of gasoline and repairs are constantly rising, and you have to pay for a license and insurance coverage.15. Suzhou is a beautiful place in Southeast of China. It was b uilt over 2500 years ago. So Suzhou is an old city with a long history. I t’s famous for its gardens and Hanshan Temple. We are all proud of the m. Many foreign tourists come to see them. In Suzhou, There are lots of old constructions like Tiger Hill, Bessie Pagoda and so on. After visiting them, you’ll be tired. But don’t be worried. There are also lots of sna ck shops in Suzhou. They are different from those in Western countries. Suzhou is a modern city as well as an old city. There are lots of tall bui ldings and many other modern constructions in Suzhou, too. You can find hundreds of people in smart clothes in the street. What a beautiful city i t is!16. Everybody has a dream, because we’re dreamers. Sometime s the dream is perfect, sometimes it’s special, sometimes it’s sweet. In my dream, there are some children. I always play games with them and enjoy ourselves. In my dream, there is a special sky. In our world, the s ky is blue, but the sky of my dream is pink and some angels are having fun there. In my dream, white bird can fly high, flowers can sing songs, frogs have a jump race, tomatoes are blue, potatoes are yellow and all t he things are different. In my dream, Chinese people, Korean people, Jap anese people, Italian people, Spanish people, American people and Russia n people are hand in hand. All the people smile forever. It is a peacefulworld. In my dream, everything is wonderful, but our world is not. So we should make our world get more beautiful!17. In current society, people have known the importance of ke eping healthy and good life habit. In the past, people ate three meals at home, and they ate more vegetables and less meat and fish. They were v ery strong and seldom went to see doctors. Now life is better, people eat more meat, fish, eggs and other food with more fat. They often go out for good meals with their families and friends. But they get easy to be il l, Why? I think more meat and fish, less exercise are bad for health. Go od rest, less meat and fish, more vegetables and enough exercise are goo d for health. We should eat fruit and drink milk every day. So the better we get into good eating habits, the happier our life becomes.18. I like Christmas, it is just like our Spring Festival. Because we can spend time with our families, friends and classmates during Chr istmas. When it is snowy, Christmas becomes much more lovely. I can i magine I am in a fairy tale, the girl who sold the matches is my friend, the ugly duck becoming more and more beautiful and so on. What a bea utiful place! So we can also call Christmas “snowy lovely day.”On Chr istmas day, shops are red and green. There are so many Christmas cards, Christmas hats, Christmas dolls and many colorful things. We can give a card or a doll to our friends and say “Merry Christmas.”By the way,I think studying can also become much more interesting.19. Chinese Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival falls on Januar y 1st according to the lunar calendar, usually around the late January or early February. As the start of spring as well as a new year, it is the mo st important celebration of the year. On the Eve, there is a big dinner for the family when each member returns to get together. The biggest New Year party is held on CCTV. Hundreds of people gather there, meanwhile millions of others all over the country were sitting in front of the screento watch excellent performances. The bell strikes twelve at midnight to welcome the coming of the New Year or Spring. People start to set off firecrackers and say "Happy New Year" to each other.20. With the development of the modern technology, private car is no longer a luxurious thing for ordinary people. More and more peopl e drive to work instead of going by bus. The popularization of private ca r has many advantages. First,it is very convenient and time-saving and y ou can drive your own car to the workplace instead of waiting for the cr owded bus and afraid of being late for working. Second,it can also impr ove the traffic structure, and help mitigate the stress of the traffic. Third, the popularization of private car can help to promote the car industry and any other interrelated industries. I believe that in the future the private c ar will become the most important vehicle and we can't live without it.21. Smile, how warm the word is! It can make anyone happy a nd this happiness is from the bottom of heart. It’s not like enthusiastic laughter, but just warm, makes your heart warm. Mother’s smile is like a spring wind, so gentle when you are sad and it can make you happy a gain; when you fail, it can make you stand up and work hard again; whe n you give up, it can make you try your best again…Smile, so easy, bu t also so useful. So, let’s learn to smile. Everyone needs others smile. When we give others a smile, we will feel happy, too. And maybe next t ime, when you need a smile, the person who received your smile will gi ve it to you. Let’s learn to smile often. I believe it can even make the whole world warm. Living with a smile, every day will be sunshine.22. Everybody knows that there is the serious problem of water pollution on the earth. Yes, water pollution is increasing. Look! The wat er in the river is getting dirtier and dirtier. Most of fish in the water hav e died, and we can’t swim in the water. My grandfather says, when hewas very little, the water in the river was very clean. He often swam in the river with his friends. That was before, but now we can’t see such clean rivers. Let’s protect the water from pollution, because we can’t li ve without water. The water is really important to us all.23. The way of life that a group of people builds up over a lo ng period of time becomes the people's culture. Culture includes the peop le's values and beliefs as well as their technical competency. Some aspect s of culture are learned in a formal setting, such as a school, while other aspects are learned informally in the process of day-to-day living. A cult ure is always changing. Changes in some culture often come about by bo rrowing form another culture and by invention. To enrich the culture of o ur nation, we are constantly adapting new inventions and new ideas into our way of life.24. Although the world develops much faster and better, the res ources on the earth get fewer and fewer. In order to protect them, somet hing must be done. Save water as water is the source of life. No water,no life. So it's very important for us to do so. Not only should we prote ct drinking water and stop polluting it,but also make full use of it. Save electricity as it is crucial. We can't imagine what the life will be like w ithout it. Don't forget to turn off lights or other electric machines when we finish working. Save forests . Please stop cutting them down and use recycled paper instead. Make our world a green one to live in. We can s ave resources in this way. I believe we can make the world a better place to live in.25. One afternoon in September, 1993 in Datong, Shanxi Provin ce, a two-year-old boy happened to fall into a deep ditch, which is only 40 centimeters wide but 45 meters deep. The ditch is so narrow that the adults are not able to go down. At that time, an 11-year-old Young boy named Zhang Tianxi, who is a miner's son decided to save the little boy.Zhang is thin enough to go down to the bottom of the ditch. He was b rave enough and made an effort to carry the little child to the surface of the ground. It took him about 45 minutes to finish the job. People sang high praise for his brave behavior. And Zhang was awarded the prize fo r the National Ten Finest Children.26. Last year, I visited Beijing. I always looked forward to visit ing there. So I was so excited that I couldn’t fall asleep on the night be fore I started. I got up early and packed my backpack for the journey. In my pack, I put a camera, some clothes, a cell phone and so on. It took me 15 hours to go there by train. I visited some places of interest in B eijing, such as the Great Wall, the Ming Tombs and so on. They are ver y beautiful. I enjoyed myself. I felt tired but excited because I have learn ed a lot about the history of the city. As soon as I arrived home, I phon ed my classmates and told them about the trip.27. I was born in a beautiful town with high mountains around it. The mountains are covered with all kinds of green bamboos. Through the town runs a small stream. It's said that a new railway is going to b e built to the east of the town and a bamboo factory to the west. All th e children of the school age can go to school. If anyone is ill, he can g o to see the doctor in the newly-built hospital. People in the town are ha rd-working and never take the backwardness lying down. Though they are having a richer and better life, they are not satisfied with what they have got. They are working hard to build their town into a modern one.28. Our class has made a survey. "Don't keep your worries." A bout fifty percent of the students in our class are worried about their ho mework and studies. And they feel stressed too much. About thirty perce nt of the students think their parents are too strict with them. They don't often talk with their parents. The other twenty percent of them say they are weak in health. They complain that they almost have no time for their hobbies or exercise. So I hope that our teachers will give us less ho mework. And I advise our parents to allow us to spend some time with our parents doing outdoor activities. I think our teachers should give us l ess homework to do. And our parents are supposed to talk with us often. In this way, we will be happier.29. It’s hard to make friends if you stay alone all the time. It’s easier to make friends when you have similar interests. Don’t be afrai d to show people what you are really good at. Talk about the things you like and do your best. Look at people in the eyes when you talk to the m. Be a good listener. Let people talk about themselves before talking ab out yourself. Be friendly to a lot of people. Try to help your friends wh en they are in trouble because a friend in need is a friend indeed. That way you’ll have a bigger group to choose from and have more chances to make friends.30. Opportunity is one of the elements of success. But opportun ities don't come often. And not all the opportunities can certainly lead to success. Moreover, opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, ther efore most people don't recognize them. So if you want to achieve somet hing, you must make efforts and get prepared. Otherwise, you will take n o advantage of opportunities when they come to you. In my opinion, ther e are plenty of opportunities for everyone in our society, but only those who have made enough preparations and are highly talented can make use of them to achieve their purpose.32. Nowadays more and more programs are shown every day. My favorite program is "Discovery" which is broadcasted by CCTV at 5' o’clock every other afternoon, except weekends. The program provides us with knowledge in natural and scientific aspects. I like to know about the secrets of animals and some scientific research. I acquire some know ledge about nature and science of the past, present and even the future. Itis an interesting as well as instructive program. Besides, the pictures are very vivid and beautiful. It' s really a great joy to watch it. If you do n't believe what I said, just watch it by yourself, and then you will kno w I am right.33. The proverb "Haste makes waste" means that one may dela y the time to complete one thing if he rushes to do it, because he may neglect something important in the process and has to do it again from t he beginning. So we should do every step well. Take remembering Englis h words for example, every student wants to enlarge his vocabulary. But this aim cannot be achieved in one or two days. You should stick to rem ember some words a day and review the words every few days. In this way you can keep the words in your mind firmly. There is no shortcut. I f you want to put all the words into your brain and not to review them, you will remember nothing. So don't be hasty. Haste makes waste.34. Panda is one of the scarcest animals. People in the world li ke it very much. There used to be many pandas in China long ago. As t he balance of nature was destroyed and the weather was getting warmer and warmer, pandas became less. But at present, the number of pandas is increasing year by year. There are now so many pandas that some are b eing sent to other countries so that people there can enjoy them. Nowada ys, the biggest nature park for panda in China is in Sichuan. There is a research center for nature and wild life there. Scientists hope that one da y they will have enough pandas to be set free and let them live in the wild again.36. Our environment is very important for our lives . We need the fresh air, the clean water and so on. In the past, there were many tre es around us, the air was fresh and the river was clean. But now, people cut down many trees. Air pollution and water pollution are very serious. The environment around us becomes very terrible. We should protect ourenvironment. First, we should plant many trees to keep water. Second, w e can ride a bike or walk to the school and work. Third, we shouldn’t t hrow the dirty water into the river. Fourth, we shouldn’t use the plastic bags. Finally, we can ask more people to join us.37.Almost everyone knows the famous Chinese saying:A you ng idler,an old beggar. Throughout history we have seen many cases in which this saying has again and again proved to be true. It goes without saying that youth is the best time of life, during which one’s mental a nd physical states are at their peaks. It takes relatively less time and pain to learn or accept new things in an ever-changing world. When one is y oung they do not have the stresses or burdens that can come from a care er, family and health problems. To ensure success in different aspects of l ife one must always keep learning, asking questions, and be excited to liv e. Of course we all know:no pain, no gain. If we don’t make every ef fort to make good use of the advantages youth brings us,it will be impo ssible to achieve one’s goals. As students we should try our best to lear n all our subjects so we can be prepared for the challenges we will face in the future.38. Many wild animals are facing the danger of extinction, b ecause the environment they are living in has changed greatly. Examples of these changes are the development of cities, the use of chemicals on c rops, increasing pollution, and their living areas are becoming smaller. Ma ny of these wild animals are now confronted with a food crisis because n ot only are their habitats smaller, they are competing with man for resour ces. Man is killing off species just for gathering animal’s fur, skin, horn s, teeth and meat. In order to protect our natural resources people should realize that the loss of any species is not only a loss of knowledge but of beauty. Therefore, measures of the following should be taken: pollution standards should be stronger and heavily enforced; killing of certain rarespecies prohibited; and national parks should be set up as wild life reser vations. Only if we human beings take some drastic measures can our be autiful mother nature preserve and flourish once again.39. Time flies like an arrow before we realize it .It is known t hat nothing is more precious than time. The good old proverb "time is money" reminds us that time is valuable. When time goes by, it will nev er return. However, it is a pity that some people don't make full use of t heir time .They spend a lot of time in sleeping, chatting, playing compute r games or other unmeaning matters. . They don't realize that wasting tim e is actually equal to killing themselves. They always regret not having made great achievements. One of the reasons may be they do not make good use of time. Therefore, in order to be successful, they should first g et into the habit of being on time. It’s a sign of cherishing time. Don't put off what can be done today until tomorrow. Being lazy will eventuall y lead to failure. Don't wait, because you don't know how long it will ta ke when you put off your plan.40. Newspapers and websites are two major new media in the world today, both of which can provide us with lots of news and informa tion. But they’re different in some ways. Newspapers enjoy a longer hist ory and often come out daily with more reliable news and information. T hey can be carried and read almost anywhere you like. So many people l ike reading them. But they can only contain texts and photos. On the oth er hand, websites are quite new and popular, especially among young peo ple. Websites have not only texts with pictures but also audios and video s, which makes stories more interesting. What’s more, they are updated f rom time to time. So the latest news is always seen on websites instead of in newspapers. But it is not quite convenient for people without a co mputer connected with the Internet to get information from websites.41. I dream that one day, I could escape from the deep sea of thick schoolbooks and live my own life with my favorite fictions: I lie fr eely on the green grass, smelling the spring, listening to the wind singin g, breathing the fresh and cool air and dissolve my soul in nature at last. Simple and short enjoyment can bring me great satisfaction. I dream that one day the adults could throw their prejudice of comic and cartoon aw ay. They could keep a lovely heart that can share sorrow and happiness with us while watching cartoon or doing personal things. That’s the real communication of heart to heart. I have the belief that my dreams should come true. I am looking forward to some day coming when I am like a proud eagle, which flies to the blue and vast sky.42. Pandas are gentle and shy. They are also friendly to people. And they look funny, too. Their eyes are the most interesting part. The black circles around their eyes make them look like they are wearing glas ses or have just been in a fight. Their favorite food is bamboo leaves. T hey don’t like to move around very much. In fact, they prefer to sleep all day if they can. But now pandas are endangered. For one thing, peopl e have destroyed many of their habitats. For another, they don’t have en ough food to eat. We must think of ways to protect them. I think we sh ould build more panda zoos and plant more bamboo for them. I hope ev eryone can do something for animals, so that we can keep our world rich and colorful and full of interesting animals.43. Belief, a creation of human's wisdom, always plays an impo rtant role in human's society. As a saying goes:“If one's mind is full, it won't be filled in with any bad idea.”Anyone who has strong beliefs can enjoy a colorful life. Otherwise, he will lose himself in his way of li fe. Beliefs are so important that it can change one's fate. Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse wouldn't quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned that cream into butter and crawled out. Obviously, the latter mouse is the one who has his own beliefs. There are always hopes in hi s eyes that encourage him to fight, and fight, and fight. He never gives up when he is in some difficult situations. Because the optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty, while the pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The first mouse is one of these kinds of pessimists. He hol ds no belief in his life and become the slave of his fate.44. Human beings are advanced animals in the world. Some animals are very kind. For example, if you are kind to a dog, it will shake. It will tail to you. So if you are kind to others, they will also be kind to y ou. You have lots of chances to give your small kindness if you see a di sabled person working in the street. You can help him to cross the street. If you meet a stranger, you can show him the way. If he or she asks y ou questions, you should be kind to answer them. That is you give small kindness to others. Maybe it seems to you a piece of cake, but it is ver y important to people in need. If you do this, the others will do it to yo u. Be kind to others, and they will be kind to you.45. Somewhere in your city or town, there probably is a four-st ory building. In that building, life is different at every level. You may liv e in such a building. The ground floor, for example, might be a store. T he second floor might be an office. The top floors might be apartments. I n a way, the Amazon rain forest is like a four-story building. Life at the treetops is very different from what you find on the forest floor. Each le vel is very different from the others. The four levels are: emergent layer, canopy, under-story and forest floor. We will take an imaginary trip up t o the rain forest habitat. Although we will move slowly, we will see only a small part of the action. Hundreds of animals live at each level. We c an only hope to catch a glimpse of a few.。
