WHO made the decision in its third meeting about the coronavirus, after it decided not to take such a step in the first two meetings.Officially called a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), it is considered to be a public health risk through the international spread of disease. It suggests a serious, sudden and unusual situation in which the world must act quickly.Since 2009, there have been a few global health emergencies, including the 2009 swine flu pandemic (猪流感) and the 2014 outbreak of ebola in West Africa. The new coronavirus has got attention because of its similarity to SARS which killed about 800 people across the world in 2002-2003. So far, the new coronavirus does not seem to be as deadly as SARS, but there have been more cases. Its declaration could cause trade and travel restrictions (限制). Those who have made holiday plans might have their plans affected (受影响的) in some parts of the world. The WHO said its greatest worry was the potential (潜在性) for the virus to spread to countries with weaker health systems, who might not be able to handle (处理) it. “We are all in this together and we can only stop it together,”said the WHO’s Director General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.阅读短文内容,选择最佳选项。

Yours,Li Hua二、写作要求:Dear Amy,It is so considerate of you to receive your letter inquiring about novel cononavirus in Wuhan. I am writing to tell you about this.Since the outbreak of an infectious disease in Wuhan in December 2019, the Chinese government has decisively closed down the city to prevent the spread of the disease. At the same time, although cases have been found throughout the country, the Chinese people actively face it, together with Wuhan to fight the epidemic. At this particular time, we should go out as little as possible, isolated. If we go out, we must wear protective masks to prevent ourselves from getting infected. In addition, we should keep good healthy habits and keep our body clean. As many Chinese say, “come on Wuhan".Yours,Li Hua三、写作要求:Since the pneumonia epidemic broke out in Wuhan in December, the number of people infected and patients who have died keep climbing. Itis reported that the epidemic has something to do with the killing and selling of wild animals at South China Seafood Market. With the decrease of wild animals, many animals are endangered. Worse still, some of them may disappear forever. There is no doubt that hunting and killing wild animals has a bad influence. For wild animals are killed for their fur, which causes the imbalance of nature. For another, due to the contact between humans and wild animals, epidemics like SARS and pneumonia may infect humans easily. As far as I am concerned, something must be done to stop this illegal action. First, Nature Reserves are supposed to be built so as to offer more living space to wildlife. Second, be aware that never have wild animals for food, as they are part of environment. Third, it is high time that we raised people’s awareness to protect wildlife. In this way, we can build a harmonious society and ensure a sustainable development.四、Dr. Zhong Nanshan was born in October 1936 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. Investigations found that it was caused by a previously unknown virus-now named the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. In this text,we’ll take a quick look at what’s currently known about the virus. Keep in mind(记住) that this is a new virus and what’s known about the virus now might change in the future.Coronaviruses(冠状病毒) are a large group of viruses. They consist of a core of genetic material(遗传物质)surrounded by an envelope with protein spikes(蛋白棘突). This gives it the appearance of a crown. Crown in Latin is called “corona”and that’s how these viruses get their name. There are different types of coronaviruses that cause respiratory(呼吸的) and sometimes gastrointestinal(胃肠的) symptoms. Respiratory disease can range from the common cold to pneumonia(肺炎). And in most people, the symptoms tend to be mild. However, there are some types of coronaviruses that can cause severe disease. These include the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS即严重急性呼吸综合征,俗称“非典”) coronavirus first identified in China in 2003 and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS中东呼吸综合征) coronavirus that was first identified in Saudi Arabia(沙特阿拉伯) in 2012.The 2019 Novel Coronavirus was first identified in China. It initially occurred in a group of people with pneumonia(肺炎) who’d been associated with a seafood and live animal market in the city of Wuhan. The disease has since spread from those who were sick toothers, including family members and health care staff(员工;全体职员). There are many cases at present and the disease has spread within China and also to a number of other countries. So, where did the virus come from? It’s known that coronaviruses(冠状病毒) circulate in a range of animals. Sometimes these viruses can make the jump from animals to humans. This is called a spillover and could be due to a range of factors such as mutations(变异) in the virus or increased contact between humans and animals. For example, MERS-CoV is known to be transmitted from camels and SARS-CoV, from civet cats(果子狸). The animal reservoir of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus is not known yet.Questions:1.Why was the novel virus named “coronavirus”?Because coronaviruses(冠状病毒) are a large group of viruses. Protect yourself and others from getting sickE. Wear a mask if transport or movement is necessaryF. If you’re not feeling well or have symptoms of feverG. To prevent catching the infection, here’s what you can do(二)2020密云一模Mystery of EvolutionFollowing the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia(NCP), also named COVID-19 by WHO, there is a general fear of the unknown virus as its full effects remain to be seen. Fever, coughing, sore throat, difficulty breathing-the NCP's symptoms are similar to the common cold or the flu. but it's potentially more dangerous.Viruses could be deadly, like HIV and Ebola (埃博拉) . But what are viruses? How can they cause so much trouble? Viruses are non-living organisms (有机体) approximately one-millionth of an inch long. Unlike human cells or bacteria, they can't reproduce on their own. 46 Viruses can infect every living thing-from plants and animals down to the smallest bacteria. For this reason, they always have the potential to be dangerous to human life. Sometimes a virus can cause a disease so serious that it is fatal. Other viral infections cause no noticeable reaction. Viruses lie around our environment all of the time, waiting for a host cell to come along. They can eater our bodies by the nose, mouth, eyes or breaks in the skin. 47 For example, HIV, which causes AIDS. attacks the T-cells of the immune system. But the basic question is, where did viruses first come from? 48 "Tracing the origins of viruses is difficult. " Ed Rybicki, a virologist at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, told Scientific American, "because viruses don't leave fossils (化石) and because of the tricks they use to make copies of themselves within the cells they've invaded."49 First, viruses started as independent organisms, then became parasites (寄生者) . Second. viruses evolved from pieces of DNA or RNA that "escaped" from larger organisms. Third, viruses co-evolved with their host cells, which means they existed alongside these cells. For the time being, these are only theories. The technology and evidence we have today cannot be used to test these theories and identify the most plausible explanation. 50 Or future studies may reveal that the answer is even murkier (含糊不清的) than it now appears.A. Once inside, they try to find a host cell to infect.B. Until now, no clear explanation for their origin exists.C. Continuing studies may provide us with clearer answers.D. There's pretty strong evidence that this is a bat origin coronavirus.E. However, there are three main hypotheses (假说) to explain the origin of viruses.F. Instead, they invade the cells of living organisms to reproduce, spread and take over.G. Bat is a flying mammal with a long lifespan, whose temperature is high, similar to a fever.阅读:A篇“The first shipment of masks and coronavirus test kits to the US is taking off from Shanghai. If we take the virus seriously, we are more than capable of containing it.B篇CDC : Centre for Disease ControlLeading health experts from the CDC and the WHO have made it clear that minimizing the impactof coronavirus means lessening transmission(减少传播) by staying home. For people who likesocial interaction, the practice can be troubling. But how can we ease the anxiety resulting from it? Here, Dr. David·H·Rosmarin, professor of Harvard Medical School, will show you three approaches.1. Remember that social distancing doesn’t mean social isolation(隔离)"Social distancing does not mean social isolation,” Dr. Rosmarin says. “We can use electronic means to connect to each other.”Rosmarin says phoning friends and staying in touch can allow us to maintain our connections, though he cautions that social media doesn’t provide the same benefits. “Social media and news might make you feel connected, but it creates distance,” Dr. Rosmarin says. Instead, call or conference people you know personally, one-on-one.2.Don’t let the news cycle dictate(左右) your emotions. The coronavirus situation is dynamic and seems to change by the hour, resulting in a number of people feeling compelled(强迫的) to stay on top of updates by constantly checking their phonesfor new information. While that can be stressful at any time, it can affect your ability to relax if you surf news outlets just before going to sleep. “People need to be shutting off information an hour before they go to bed,” Dr. Rosmarin says. “It’s not a good time to be watching the news.”It’s very unlikely an update will be so urgent or pressing it would lose relevance(关联) by morning. Sleep is critical to a healthy immune system(免疫系统), and giving yourself anopportunity to relax is important. Rosmarin also recommends avoiding scrolling during mealtimes for the same reason. In some cases, it may be best to avoid news or news outlets that make you feel particularly stressed. WHO recommends checking in on the news once or twice a day at specific times, and getting information from reliable sources to avoid rumors and misinformation.3.Don’t ignore regular routine.Do laundry on Sundays? Keep doing it on Sunday. Not going to work? Get dressed anyway. Maintaining(维持) a semblance(外貌) of a regular routine will go a long way toward helping youavoid feelings of disorganization and unpredictability.“Anxiety is just the beginning,” Rosmarin says. “Within a week or two, people are probably going to start f eeling depressed, sad, and lethargic, especially since we are distancing from one another. That’s really where the benefits of scheduling come in.”Sticking to your normal sleep and wake times, your exercise routine, and other practices will maintain feelings of familiarity. It will also help you adjust when the world returns—as it inevitably will—to normalcy.1.According to the experts, which below is the best way to make the influence of the coronavirus minimum?A.Getting much involved with the social interaction.B.Constantly checking phones for new information.C. Staying home and reducing exposure.D. Doing nothing but staying home.2.What is the meaning of the underlined word “critical” in Paragraph 4?A. 防疫举措英文作文高中英文:As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread around the world, countries are taking measures to prevent the spread of the virus. In my country, we have implemented various measures to ensure the safety of our citizens.Firstly, we have imposed strict travel restrictions. All incoming travelers are required to undergo a mandatory quarantine period of 14 days. This has helped to prevent the virus from entering our country from other countries.Secondly, we have implemented social distancing measures. This includes limiting the number of people allowed in public spaces, such as restaurants and cinemas. We have also encouraged people to work from home and avoid unnecessary gatherings.Thirdly, we have increased our testing capacity. Thishas allowed us to quickly identify and isolate those who have contracted the virus. We have also ramped up our contact tracing efforts to prevent further spread of the virus. Finally, we have made it mandatory for everyone to wear masks in public spaces. This has helped to reduce the spread of the virus, as wearing masks can prevent droplets from spreading from an infected person.Overall, these measures have been effective in preventing the spread of the virus in our country. However, we must remain vigilant and continue to follow these measures to ensure the safety of our citizens.中文:随着新冠疫情在全球范围内的蔓延,各国都采取了措施来防止病毒的传播。
