Thus, understanding what influences originality can have important and potentially 42 consequences for businesses. Ravi Mehta, a professor of business administration, shows that adopting a(n) 43 that imagines how the user would feel while using a product leads designers to experience greater empathy(同感), which 44 creativity and, in turn, outcome originality for new product design. There are two ways that the product designer can 45 the consumer’s product usage. One focuses on objective use of the product—how consumers might use the product, that is, an “objective –imagination” approach. The other focuses on feelings—how the product makes the consumer feel, a “feelings-imagination” approach.Consumers always want to have new products that solve problems more efficiently and at a less cost. So product designers 46 this trap of being very objective in focusing on the use of a p roduct. That’s important, but the 47 of usage can only attract consumers in some ways.48 , the feelings-imagination approach leads designers to experience greater empathy, which makes them more49 to the consumers’ ideas. This leads to greate r outcome originality. Mehta said, “when you imagine consumers and focus on their feelings, that’s powerful and will lead to something much more innovative than only focusing on a product’s usage.” The research shows that a feelings-based approach is 50 to the commonly used objective-based approach, the researchers wrote. It not only helps product designers build a better product, but it also helps them create more innovative products. The implications of the findings extend to everyday consumers, who now play a role in shaping companies’ design. Mehta said, “Marketers are increasingly 51 consumers for new product ideas.”52 , there was a very successful campaign a few years ago that focused on getting consumers to create a new potato chip flavor. The experiments demonstrated a53 effect of adopting a feelings-imagination approach. That suggests that these designers may 54 imagi ning users’ feelings. In this way, designers can develop products that could 55 to the masses. Companies can easily adopt this process and promote feelings-imagination exercises through their websites or social media.41. A. primary B. innovative C. natural D. domestic42. To find out how a person’s body language affects the emotional impression given by that person’s face, scientists used pictures in which body posture matched and didn’t match facial expression.Studying such mixed message is nothing new for scientists.Previously, they had found that the tone of a person’s voice can be more important than the words that are spoken. For example, most people tend not to believe a person who says in a flat voice,“I’m so excited.”When it came to emotions conveyed by facial expressions and body language, most scientists suspected that the face was more important. To test if this was true, psychologists from the Netherlands and Boston showed people a number of pictures of isolated faces and isolated bodies (with faces blurred out) that showed anger or fear. They also showed pictures in which angry or scared faces were paired with angry or scared bodies. An angry face had low eyebrows and tight lips.A scared face had high eyebrows and a slightly open mouth. An angry body had arms back and shoulders at an angle,as if ready to fight.A scared body had arms forward and shoulders square,as if ready to defend.Using the pictures, the researchers asked people to quickly press a button that matched the correct facial emotion:anger or fear. When people looked only at faces, they chose the right emotion about 81 percent of the time. But when people looked at a mismatched picture—a scared face with an angry body, for example—they correctly guessed the emotion on the face only 64 percent of the time. These results told the researchers that mixed signals can confuse people.Even when people pay attention to the face, body language subtly influences which emotion they read.1.What conclusion did the scientists draw from the research?A.The tone of a person’s vo ice can be more important than the words that are spoken.B.Facial expression has much effect on body language.C.Mixed messages help people to understand one’s emotion.D.Body language is important for telling people how you feel.2.What will happen if your face and body send mixed messages?A.People will be more likely to believe the look on your face.B.People will be more likely to believe the way you hold your body.C.People might be confused and won’t believe what they see.D.People will understand you more clearly and correctly.3.If someone greets you with a smile and a wave, that probably suggests .A.he is happy to see you B.he is angry to see youC.he is excited to see you D.his feeling is complex to see you 4.The passage is developed mainly by .A.logical reasoningB.giving examplesC.showing the effect and then explaining the causesD.presenting the experiment and then drawing the conclusion1.You wouldn’t think him alive if it were not for the occasional outbursts of laughter. My poor, poor Frank!”Paddy wiped the tears from his face and said. “Fee dear, pack your things. We'll go to see him.”She half-rose before sinking back, her eyes in her small white face stared as if dead. “I can't go,”she said without a hint of pain, yet making everyone feel that the pain was there. “It would kill him to see me. Their critics seem to hate or resent them because they have a gift for self-promotion and because they have so much money to throw around. “It’s unfair,” they say, “that this entirely unproductive industry (if we can call it that) should absorb millions of pounds each year. It only goes to show how much profit the big companies are making. Why don’t they stop advertising and reduce the price of their goods? After all, it’s the consumer who pays…”The poor old consumer! He’d have to pay a great deal more if advertising didn’t create mass markets for products. It is exactly because of the heavy advertising thatconsumer goods are so cheap. But we get the wrong idea if we think the only purpose of advertising is to sell goods. Another equally important function is to inform.A great deal of the knowledge we have about household goods comes largely from the advertisements we read. Advertisements introduce us to new products or remind us of the existence of ones we already know about. Supposing you wanted to buy a washing machine, it is more likely that you would obtain details about performance, price, etc., from an advertisement.Lots of people pretend that they never read advertisements, but this claim may be seriously doubted. It is hardly possible not to read advertisements these days. And what fun they often are, too! Just think what a railway station or a newspaper would be like without advertisements. Would you enjoy gazing at a blank wall or reading railway regulations while waiting for a train? Would you like to read only closely-printed columns of news in your daily paper? A cheerful, witty advertisement makes such a difference to a dull wall or a newspaper full of the daily amount of great disasters. We must not forget, either, that advertising makes a positive contribution to our pockets. Newspapers, commercial radio and television companies could not survive without this source of income. The fact that we pay so little for our daily paper, or can enjoy so many broadcast programmes is due entirely to the money spent by advertisers. Just think what a newspaper would cost if we had to pay its full price!Another thing we mustn’t forget is the “small ads”, which are actually in every newspaper and magazine. What an extremely useful service they perform for the community! Just about anything can be accomplished through these columns! For instance, you can find a job, buy or sell a house, announce a birth, marriage or death in what used to be called the “hatch, match and dispatch” column but so far the most fascinating section is the personal or “agony” column (读者来信专栏). No other item in a newspaper provides such entertaining reading or offers such a deep insight into human nature. It’s the best advertisement for advertising there is!11. What is the main idea of this passage?A. The costs of advertisement.B. Advertisers tend to think big.C. The benefits of advertisement.D. Advertisements perform a useful service to communities.12. Why do the critics criticize advertisers?A. Because customers are poor.B. Because critics think advertisement is a waste of money.C. Because advertisers promote products with too much money.D. Because customers are encouraged to buy more than necessary.13. Which of the following is Not true?A. Advertisement makes our life colorful.B. Newspapers are worth more than we pay.C. Good quality products don’t need to be advertised.D. Advertisement makes contribution to our pockets and we may know everything.14. In what way does the writer try to support his view?A. ComparisonB. Ten more men walked on the moon over the next three and a half years.Unfortunately, not quite. A fair number of Americans think that this whole business of moon landings really is a fairy tale. They believe that the landings were a big hoax (骗局) staged in the Mojave Desert, to convince everyone that U.S. technology was the “best” in the whole wide world.Which is the harder thing to do: Send men to the moon or make believe we did? The fact is the physics behind sending people to the moon is simple. You can do it with computers whose entire memory capacities can now fit on chips the size of postage stamps and that cost about as much as, well, a postage stamp. I know you can because we did. However, last fall NASA considered spending $15,000 on a public-relations campaign to convince the unimpressed that Americans had in fact gone to the moon. That idea was mostly a reaction to a Fox television program, first aired in February 2001, that claimed to expose the hoax. The show’s creator is a pu blicity hound (猎狗) who has lived up to the name in more ways than one by hounding Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon. Mr. X (as I will call him, thereby denying him the joyous sight of his name in print) recently followed Buzz Aldrin around and called him “a thief, liar and coward” until the 72-year-old astronaut finally lost it and hit the 37-year-old Mr. X in the face.Anyway, NASA’s publicity campaign began to slow down. The nonbelievers took the campaign as NASA’s effort to hide something while the believers said that $15,000 to convince people that the world was round — I mean, that we had gone to the moon — was simply a waste of money. (Actually, the $15,000 was supposed to pay for an article by James E. Oberg, an astronomy writer who, with Aldrin, has contributed to Scientific American.)If NASA’s not paying Oberg, perhaps it could put the money to good use by hiring two big guys to drag Neil Armstrong out of the house. Armstrong is an extremely private man, but he is also the first man on the moon, so maybe he has a duty to be a bit more outspoken about the experience. Or NASA could just buy Aldrin a commemorate plaque (纪念匾) for his recent touch on the face of Mr. X.15. We can learn from Paragraphs 2 and 3 that some Americans believe _______.A. moon landings were inventedB. U.S. technology was the bestC. moon landing ended successfullyD. the Mojave Desert was the launching base16. According to the writer, which of the following is to blame for the story about the hoax?A. NASA’s publicity campaign.B. The Fox television program.C. Buzz Aldrin.D. JamesE. Oberg.17. According to the writer, Mr. X _______.A. told a faithful storyB. was not treated properlyC. was a talented creatorD. had a bad reputation18. The believers think that NASA’s publicity campaign is ________.A. proof to hide the truthB. stupid and unnecessaryC. needed to convince the non-believersD. important to develop space technology19. What is implied in the last paragraph?A. NASA should not bother with the non-believers.B. Armstrong was a very private and determined person.C. Armstrong should be as outspoken as Buzz Aldrin.D. NASA should send more astronauts to outer space.20. The tone of the article is _______.A. angryB. conversationalC. humorousD. matter-of-fact参考答案 15—20 ABDBAC*************************************************结束下面文章中有5处(第61~65题)需要添加小标题。
