A blog, shortened from “weblog”, is a public Internet journal written by one perso n or a group of people. It is a website in which a person or a group can place news, personal thoughts, text, photos, video or audio files, or links upon which visitors can ment. A blog lets you post on the Internet without having to know web design or be technical. You are given an environment to make dated entries on the topic of your choice which are “published”, so other people can read them.Authoring a blog, maintaining a blog or adding an article to an existing blog is called “blogging”. Blogging has revolutioniz ed Internet publishing in the last several years because it gives everyone with Internet access the opportunity to bee an online writer. Objects, such as “text and photos” in a blog can be called “blog posts”, “posts”, or “entries”. The person who posts these entries is called a “blogger”.Now, somewhere around the world, a blog is created almost every 6 seconds. Many people believe that when specific muscles are exercised, the fatty tissues (组织) in the immediate area are burned up. The truth is that exercise burns fat from all over the body and not from one specific area. Of course, if you reduce the fat throughout your body, you will certainly see results around your waist too. Some people believe that you need to exercise twice a week in order to keep a sufficient level of physical fitness. However, studies directed by American scientists show that unexercised muscles lose their strength very quickly. Within 48 to 72 hours, you must use the muscles again to reestablish (重建) the good physical effects. And what does that mean to you? American scientists concluded that while daily exercise is most helpful, exercising every other day or three days a week will keep a sufficient level of physical fitness. Is it true that you burn more calories running one mile than walking the same distance? The answer is no. The truth is that you use the same amount of energy whether you walk or run the mile, since in both cases you are moving the same weight the same distance. The speed does not matter. Of course, if you run rather than walk for 30 minutes, you will cover more distance, and therefore burn more calories. If your breathing doesn’t return to normal within 5 minutes after you finish exercising, you have exercised too much. Five mi nutes or so after exercising, your breathing should be normal, your h eart shouldn’t be beating loudly, and you shouldn’t be tired.61. If you have exercised too much, _______.A. your breathing will take longer than 5 minutes to return to normal after you finish exercisingB. your breathing will return to normal within 5 minutes after finishing exercisingC. your heart will not be beating loudlyD. you will be too tired to move65. This passage tells us that _________.A. it is better to do more running than walkingB. the more exercise you do, the healthier you will beC. the unexercised muscles must be used again within 48 to 72 hoursD. in order to lose weight, you have to run fast(C)We have all experienced days when everything goes wrong. A day may begin well enough, but suddenly everything seems to get out of control. Sometimes a single unimportant event may cause a number of things to happen. Let us suppose that you are preparing a meal and keeping an eye on the baby at the same time. The telephone rings and this causes your troubles to begin. While you are on the phone, the baby pulls the tablecloth off the table, destroying your half-prepared meal. You hang up hurriedly and attend to your baby. Meanwhile, the meal gets burnt. As if this is not enough to bring you to tears, your husband arrives home, unexpectedly bringing three guests to dinner.Things can also go wrong on the road. During rush hour one evening two cars collided and the drivers began to argue. The woman driver behind the two cars happened to be a learner. She got into a panic and stopped her car. This forced the driver following her to stop suddenly. This driver’s wife was sitting beside him holding a large cake, and as she was thrown forward, the cake went right through the window and landed on the road. A truck driver seeing a cake flying through the air slammed on the brakes. The truck was carrying empty beer bottles and hundreds of them slid off the back of the truck onto the road, causing a terrible traffic jam. It took the police an hour to get the traffic on the move again. In the meantime, the truck driver had to sweep up hundreds of broken bottles. Only two dogs were enjoying themselves, for they were happily having what was left of the cake.66. If you want to answer the phone with out any trouble, you’d better ___________ .A. pull out the telephone line when you are with your babyB. put your baby on the bed and keep an eye on him / herC. not hurry to answer the phoneD. make sure your baby is not near the table67. 2019-2020年高二上学期第三次月考英语试卷 含答案

2019-2020年高二上学期第三次月考英语试卷含答案第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

AHow often one hears children wishing they were grown-ups and old people wishing they were young again. Each age has its pleasures and its pains, and the happiest person is the one who enjoys what each age gives him without wasting his time in useless regrets.Childhood is a time when there are few responsibilities to make life difficult. If a child has good parents, he is fed, looked after and loved, whatever he may do. It is impossible that he will ever again in his life be given so much without having to do anything in return. In addition, life is always presenting new things to the child —things that have lost their interest for older people because they are too well-known. But a child has his parents. He is not so free to do what he wishes to do; he is continually being told not to do things or being punished for what he has done wrong. When the young man starts to earn his own living, he can no longer expect others to pay for his food, his clothes, and his room, but has to work if he wants to live comfortably. If he spends most of his time playing about in the way that he used to as a child, he will go hungry. And if he breaks the laws of society as he used to break the laws of his parents, he may go to prison. If, however, he works hard, keeps out of trouble and has good health, he can have the great happiness of building up for himself his own position in society.1. According to the second paragraph, the writer thinks that __.A. life for a child is comparatively easyB. a child is always loved whatever he doesC. if much is given to a child, he must do something in returnD. only children are interested in life2. After a child grows up, he __.A. will have little time playingB. has to be successful in finding a jobC. can still ask for help in time of troubleD. should be able to take care of himself3. The underlined word "responsibilities" in the second paragraph means__________.A. dutiesB. jobsC. suggestionsD. desires4. The main idea of the passage is _________ .A. life is not enjoyable since each age has some painsB. young men can have the greatest happiness if they work hardC. childhood is the most enjoyable time in one's lifeD. one is the happiest if he can make good use of each age in his lifeBWhen was the last time you lost something? What was it?According to a recent survey, we spend about ten minutes a day looking for lost things. Over an average lifetime, this adds up to an incredible 3,680 hours (or 153 days). Is there anything we can do about it?The study of 3,000 adults was carried out by home insurance company Esure. They found that mobile phones and car keys were the most frequently lost items. Other things on the list included: house keys, bills, sunglasses, wallets, bank cards, watches, jewellery (particularly rings and earrings). So, what’s going on? “Most blame it on a busy lifestyle,” says Nik ki Sellers, the head of Esure. Others say it’s the fault of spouses (配偶) or children for not putting things back where they belong. A few admitted to untidiness, absent-mindedness and a poor memory, with some wishing they were more organized. What’s the solution? “You need to choose a particular place for something and always put it back there,” said Nikki Sellers. “And you need to make sure everyone else in the house knows where to put it back too. You also need to keep your house tidy, label boxes clearly and find a place near the front door for all the items that you need in the morning. A good idea would be to have a shelf there with a bowl for your keys, purse, wallet and anything else.” she added. If you are still having trouble finding things, d on’t worry — things could be a lot worse: fourteen people in the survey said they spent over an hour every day looking for lost items. Surely you can’t be as bad as that!5. According to the survey, which do people lose most frequently?A. House keys.B. Cell phones.C. Bank cards.D. Sunglasses.6. The majority of people surveyed think that they lose something because of _______.A. lack of organization.B. their bad memoryC. the fault of their family membersD. their busy life7. From the text we learn that ________.A. many people in the survey spend over an hour looking for the lost itemsB. Nikki Sellers suggests always putting things back where they wereC. the author is quite worried about those who have trouble finding thingsD. a shelf near the front door is a must if you are to avoid losing moneyCExperts say it is not easy to get used to life in a new culture. “ Culture shock” is the term these experts use when talking about the feelings that people have in a new environment. There are three stages of culture shock, say the experts. In the first stage, the newcomers like their new environment. Then, when the fresh experience dies, they begin to hate the city, the country, the people and everything else. In the last stage, the newcomers begin to adjust to their surroundings and, as a result, enjoy their life more. There are some obvious factors in culture shock. The weather may be unpleasant. The customs may be different. The public service systems---the telephone, post office ,or transportation --may be difficult to work out. The simplest things seem to be big problems. The language may be difficult.Who feels culture shock? Everyone does in this way or that. But culture shock surprises most people. Very often the people having the worst culture shock are those who never had any difficulties in their home countries and were successful in their community. Coming to a new country, these people find they do not have the same established positions. They findthemselves without a role, almost without an identity. They have to build a new self-image.Culture shock causes a feeling of disorientation (迷惘). This feeling may be homesickness. When homesick, people feel like staying inside all the time. They want to protect themselves from the strange environment, and create an escape inside their room for a sense of security. This escape does solve the problem of culture shock for the short term, but it does nothing to make the person familiar with the culture. Getting to know the new environment and gaining experience--these are the long-term solutions to the problem of culture shock.8.According to the passage, the more successful you are at home, _________________.A. the fewer difficulties you may have abroadB. the more difficulties you may have abroadC. the more money you will earn abroadD. the less homesick you will feel abroad9.Which of the following is NOT right according to the passage?A. “Culture shock” is a term used to describe the feelings that people experience in a ne wenvironmentB. In the second stage of “ Culture shock”, people may hate the life in the newenvironmentC. When you are homesick, you had better not stay at home all the timeD. Every one of us doesn’t feel culture shock in this way or that10.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?A. Escape unfamiliar environmentB. The feeling of homesicknessC. The best way to overcome (克服、战胜)culture shock: get familiar with the new cultureD. Homesickness can solve the problem of culture shock11.What’s the meaning of the underlined word adjust?A. comeB. pastC. adaptD. setDWhen I decided to get married, my father decided to share some wisdom. “Lori, it is just as easy to love a rich man as it is to love a poor man, “ he said.My boyfriend didn’t have much money, but I loved him. “What?” I cried. “ How can you say that? I want to marry for love, NOT for money.” “ But why not marry someone you love who has money?” he asked. “Rich men are materialistic(物质主义的). I’d rather marry a poor man who loves me,” I said and he gave in.And as we went on, with my family growing, I learned why my father put such importance on money. We had to cover the rent, car, electricity, food, and medical bills. We were under lot of pressure. The worries over whether we would be asked to move out or if we had the money to wash our clothes at the Laundromat this week made me question if I did the right thing by marrying a “poor” man.I realized that I had entered the ranks of the poor. Not that I’d ever bee n rich. Most of my life, I considered us in the lower middle-class rank. We had a house of our own, food on the table, cars, clothes, and money for college. But now, as I listened to an apartment neighbour talk about her monthly “Mother’s Day” gift, I real ized she was talking about her welfare check(政府发放的救济金). And another young mother tried to “help” me out by connecting me with a friend who stole baby clothes from a department store. “ For a small cut,” she said, “ I could return my ‘purchase’(购买的东西)for ca sh.” It made me sick. How poor was I?I had a college education but wasn’t using it. I insisted on not missing a minute of ourchildren’s childhood and it came at a price. My husband was working as hard as he could and it wasn’t enough. But somehow we made it.The kids grew. Today, we look back and see the great values gained by going through those hard years. My children are not materialistic. They never thought they were poor growing up because we always managed to give a little bit of food, money, or clothes to the “poor”. They were satisfied with the simple things in life that come free such as a beach day or a horse back ride from their dad.We had our worries, but we still treasured our very favorite part of the day when we’d nest (栖息地)under the covers and talked about our future, the kids and how much we loved each other. Sure our financial(财政的) troubles caused a lot of fights, but we didn’t leave each other. We began to live a better life. We moved to a better community(社区)with good schools for the k ids. And soon, we’ll face a new challenge with wealth. But we’ll never give up.My father died three years ago. Before he died, he knew I made the right choice. I’m proud of my decision.12.After getting married, the writer questioned if she had done the right thing to marry herhusband because___________.A. she was often scolded(责骂)by her fatherB. she found her husband was irresponsible(不负责任的)C. he didn’t think her husband loved her deeplyD. they lived a poor life with children to support13.After their children were born, the writer_______________.A. often regretted not using her college educationB. worked very hard in order to make more moneyC. had to steal baby clothes from a department storeD. looked after her children as a professional (职业的,专业的)housewife14. Why didn’t the writer’s children think they were poor growing up?A. Because the writer always gave them whatever they wantedB. Because the writer and her children often helped other people.C. Because the writer didn’t let her childr en play with their rich neighboursD. Because the writer let her children have a good life through receiving help from others.15.What do you think is the theme(主题)of the story?A. Women should always make a decision by themselvesB. Listening to the old is important when people get marriedC. Money doesn’t matter as much as love in marriageD. Children don’t mind whether they have a poor family or not第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

AJust two years before her 100th birthday, Sensei Keiko Fukuda has bee the first woman to achieve a tenth-degree black belt --- the highest rank in the martial art and bat sport judo(柔道). Fukuda is now one of only four living people who’ve earned the tenth-degree (or dan) black belt. Throughout history, only sixteen people have ever achieved this honor.Fukuda began practicing judo in 1935 and is the only surviving student of its founder, Kano Jiguro. Urged by her teacher, she learned English to help spread judo internationally.During a time when getting married, building a family, and being a housewife was the standard, Fukuda went against tradition, opting out of marriage to pursue the martial art.“All I did was judo ... this was my marriage,” Fukuda reflected tearfully to the San Francisco Chronicle. “This is when my life destiny was set. I just never imagined how long this road would be.”She described the Jiguro’s school, known as the Kodokan, as “old-fashioned and sexist(性别歧视的) about belts and ranks”. In fact, an order that prevented wom en from achieving any higher than a fifth-degree black belt kept Fukuda at that level for thirty years. She was finally promoted to sixth dan in 1972 when a woman’s division was created.Fukuda said she approached judo and her life with the intention to “be gentle, kind and beautiful, yet firm and strong, both mentally and physically”. Fukuda said this kind of beauty is decidedly not external (外部的). “ A kind soul is inner beauty,” she explained to the paper. “I believe this is true beauty … All my life this has been my dream.”Dream realized, the 98-year-old Sensei Keiko Fukuda continues to teach judo three times a week at a woman’s judo.1. She didn’t want to improve her level.4. Which of the following is the main idea of the passage?A. The only surviving student of Kano Jiguro remains single.B. The tenth-degree black belt is the highest rank in judo.C. Sensei Keiko Fukuda spreads judo throughout the world.D. 98-year-old woman bees the first woman ever to earn judo’s highest-degree blackbelt.BLondoners are great readers. They buy vast numbers of newspapers and magazines and of books --- especially paperbacks, which are still paratively cheap in spite of ever-increasing rises in the costs of printing. They still continue to buy “proper” books, too, printed on good paper and bound (装订) between hard covers. There are many streets in London containing shops which specialize in book-selling. Perhaps the best known of these is Charring Cross Road in the very heart of London. Here bookshops of all sorts and sizes are to be found, from the celebrated one which boasts of being “the biggest bookshop in the world” to the tiny, dusty little places which seem to have been left over from Dickens’ time. Some of these shops stock, or will obtain, any kind of book, but many of them specialize in second-hand books, in art books, in foreign books, in books on philosophy, politics or any other of the countless subjects about which books may be written. One shop in this area specializes only in books about ballet!Although it may be the most convenient place for Londoners to buy books, Charring Cross Road is not the cheapest. For the really cheap second-hand books, the collector must venture off the beaten track, to Farringdon Road, for example, in the East Central district of London. Here there is nothing so impressive as bookshops. The booksellers e along each morning and pour out their sacks of books onto small hand carts. And the collectors, some professionals and some amateurs, have been waiting for them. In places like this they can still, occasionally, pick up for a few pence an old one that may be worth many pounds.5.”Londoners are great readers” means that ___________.A. Londoners are great because they read a lot.B. There are a great number of readers in London.C. Londoners read a lot.D. Londoners are readers who read only great books.6. According to this passage, Charring Cross Road __________.A. is in the suburbs of LondonB. is the busiest street in LondonC. contains various kinds of shopsD. is famous for its bookshops7. In this passage, what does the underlined part “venture off the beaten track” mean?A. move away from a busy streetB. buy books in a most busy streetC. waste time looking for booksD. take a risk of losing one’s life8. On Farringdon Road, _______________.A. you can find fine bookshops for the latest booksB. there are only small bookshops for the second-hand booksC. you can see book sellers selling books on hand-cartsD. the same books as the ones in the bookshops of Charring Cross Road are soldCThe illegal ivory(象牙) trade has been a major problem in Africa for decades. Poachers have killed hundreds of thousands of elephants to obtain ivory. Now, affected areas are taking action. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) announced on Wednesday key African stateswhere poaching takes place have promised to stop the ivory trade to protect elephants.Over the past few days, top officials and experts from 30 states met at the African Elephant Summit. The conference, organized by the IUCN and the government of Botswana, was held in Gaborone, Botswana.Conservation efforts will include China and Thailand, where much of the ivory is sent. “Now is the time for Africa and Asia to join forces to protect this universally valued species,” said Botswana President Ian Khama. In the 1980s, as many as 1 million elephants across Africa were killed for their ivory. The ivory was used to make jewelry and other items. This continued until 1989, when the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) voted to ban all the trade in ivory. As a result, demand for ivory fell. Governments cracked down on poachers. Elephant populations slowly began to increase. However , this progress was short-lived.According to the IUCN, 2011 saw the highest levels of poaching and illegal ivory trading in at least 16 years. Around 25,000 elephants were killed in Africa that year. Data from the IUCN show even higher levels of illegal trade may have been reached in xx. “With an estimated 22,000 elephants illegally killed in xx, we continue to face a critical situation,” said John E. Scanlon, CITES Secretary-General. “Current ele phant poaching in Africa remains far too high, and could soon lead to local extinction if the present killing rate continues. At the African Elephant Summit , key African states where elephants make their home agreed to develop a “zerotolerance approach” to poaching. The deal calls for maximum sentences for poachers and hunters, and increased cooperation between affected states. Officials are mitted to classifying wildlife trafficking (交易) as a serious crime --- and to making sure that the people who mit it are punished. All participants at the conference agreed to sign the deal. With these states working together, there may yet be hope for elephants.9. The purpose of holding the African Elephant Summit is to _________.A. make new laws to punish poachers.B. prevent elephants from being poached.C. collect money for elephants’ protectionD. call for African countries to save elephants.10. Why are China and Thailand mentioned in the text?A. The ivory is illegally sold in these two countries.B. Elephants need protecting in these two countries.C. If you answer yes, consider this question: Are you bad at math because you didn't study hard enough to learn the material or because you lack the ability to be good at it?As it turns out, many children believe that they don't do well on math tests because they're intellectually incapable (无能的) of understanding the material. They have no reason to try harder, thus trapping them in a state of being bad at math.Educators Miles Kimball and Noah Smith argue that this is a big problem, “Math is the great mental subject of an unconfident America. If we can convince you that anyone can learn math, it should be a short step to convincing you that you can learn just about anything, if you wo rk hard enough.”Psychologist Carol Dweck took on the task of convincing a group of students that if they worked hard they could become smarter. The trulyremarkable part of that study was not that the kids improved and earned higher grades; it was that Dweck noted that a few of the tough boys in the group were brought to tears, learning that the level of intelligence they could reach was limitless — it was entirely up to them.Of course, not all of us will become genius mathematicians, but the majority of us can become skilled and maybe even good at math. As Mashable points out, while dyscalculia (计算障碍), a math disability, is a real thing, only 6 percent of the population is likely to have it. For the rest of us, it's a confidence problem, or a lack of belief that with hard work, we'll improve. Thankfully, we now know better, and we can pass on that_information to the next generation.4.Many people don't work hard at math because they think that ________. A.their intelligence is high B.math is not worth learningC.it's useless to put in the effort D.they have understood the material 5.According to Miles Kimball and Noah Smith, ________.A.math is a big problem to deal withB.most Americans don't like math at allC.math is an important subject at schoolD.one can learn anything as long as he works hard6.In Carol Dweck's study, the students ________.A.passed the tests easily B.became good at math soonC.didn't get higher grades in the testD.know their intelligence depends on themselves7.What does the underlined part “that information” refer to?A.Math disability doesn't really exist.B.Everyone is likely to learn math well.C.Math cannot be ignored at any time.D.Confidence is important in one's life.CWhen she was studying to become a scientist, Megan Strauss rode in a small airplane to study giraffes. While a pilot flew over the Serengeti in Tanzania, Africa, the researchers looked down carefully and counted giraffes. "I am alwaysamazed how easily we can spot warthogs and other small animals, yet we sometimes have trouble seeing giraffes. Giraffes are slender in shape, and they may not throw a good shadow, " says Dr. Strauss, who has since become a wildlife scientist. The Serengeti is about the size of Vermont, a state in the northeastern US, so the scientists could not study the entire area. Instead, they surveyed three areas where giraffes were studied in the 1970s. As they expected, they saw far fewer of these animals. To find out if lions had been killing more giraffes in recent years, the team looked at the survival of young giraffes. Lions kill more young giraffes than adults, but the team found no decrease in young giraffes' survival after they are born, compared with the 1970s. The team then looked at whether too many giraffes were being killed by parasites(寄生虫).The researchers counted parasite eggs in giraffe droppings, and they found too few to harm the giraffe population. They looked into whether poachers (盗猎者)were killing too many giraffes. Two of the areas they studied are where giraffe meat is sometimes sold in local markets. Poachers catch more adult males than other giraffes. Researchers spotted too few males compared with females in those two areas, a sign of poaching. When the food supply is short, the environment supports fewer giraffes and the females have fewer young giraffes. A lot of new trees have grown in the Serengeti, but many are a type that giraffes do not like to eat. The researchers found fewer young giraffes today than in the 1970s compared with the number of adult females, a sign that food was in short supply. Dr. Strauss is working on an environmental education program for Tanzania including books for students. These materials will educate Tanzanians and help them to help giraffes. As knowledge grows and changes are made, they hope the giraffe population will increase.8. What did Dr. Strauss find while studying giraffes in the Serengeti?A. It was too costly to study giraffes.B. It was hard to spot giraffes from the air.C. The number of giraffes had increased slowly.D. Giraffes lived in smaller areas than in the 1970s.9.How did the team study the lion-giraffe relationship?A. By analyzing giraffe droppings.B. By comparing young giraffes with adults.C. By comparing male giraffes and females.D. By surveying the survival of young giraffes.10.What are the causes of a reduction in giraffes population in the Serengeti?A. Lions and parasites.B. Lack of food and poaching.C. New trees and local markets. D Illegal hunting and natural enemies11.What is Dr. Strauss doing to help giraffes?A. She is founding a national park in Tanzania.B. She is counting giraffes in the entire Serengeti.C. She is educating students to write about giraffes.D. She is raising environmental awareness in local people.DIt began as a game: High school and college students studying computer technology figured out they could use personal computers to break into telephone company computers and make free, long-distance telephone calls. These young computer talents soon gained the name "hackers". Police arrested a few hackers, but many went on to even more complex hacking. One of them was arrested for making illegal telephone calls and later he used a phone to change a police officer's credit records to get back at the officer for arresting him. He also used a computer to change his college records to give himself better grades. As hackers gained experience, they began invading computers at banks, airlines and other businesses. In one case a hacker instructed an airline' s computer to give him free airplane tickets. The U.S. government is worried that hackers may break into its networks of defense computers. The government's secrets are easily attacked because thousands of government computers are connected by telephone lines that hackers can get into. In November 1988, a college student entered a U.S. Defense Department computer network called Arpanet. The hacker injected a computer program that made copies of itself throughout Arpanet. Some hackers use viruses to destroy all the data in a computer. But in this case, government officials shut down the network before the program reached every computer in the system. Shutting down the system angered many researchers who were using the computers. The hacker turned himself in to the police and he was charged with a crime. The incident put the spotlight on computer hacking in the United States. Many companies have hired experts toprotect their computers from hackers, and many computer experts now advise companies on how to protect their computers. The U.S. government believes foreign governments have hired hackers to try to break into top-secret defense computers. Experts disagree over whether a computer network can ever be safe from hacking. But in the future, some of the most outstanding minds in the U.S. will be working to frustrate the attempts of computer hackers.12. What did the first hackers do?A. They broke into government computers.B. They destroyed airplane ticket systems.C. They played computer games.D. They made free phone calls.13. Why can U.S. government computers be easily hacked into?A. They have no defense systems.B. They are connected by telephone lines.C. They are partly accessible to the public.D. They lack complex processing programs.14. What happened to the government computers in November 1988?A. They lost all of the important data.B. They were shut down by researchers.C. They were invaded by a college student.D. They got totally ruined by a computer program.15. What did companies decide to do to protect their computer systems?A. Employ computer talents.B. Build secret defense systems.C. Ask the government for help.D. Collect and analyze the data of hackers.第二节七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
