（一）判断变态的七个基本元素：痛苦、适应不良、不合理、无法预测和失去控制感、少见的和非传统的、其他人感到不适、违背标准。

1.痛苦：是变态的一个基本元素，但它既不是充分条件，也不是必要条件。

2.适应不良：如果一个人因为恐惧外出而不能完成个人的任何目标，这种严重的适应不良就可以认定为是一种变态反应。

3.不合理：当一个人的行为没有适当的理由时，人们倾向于认为这是变态行为。

4.无法预测和失去控制感：如果一个人在不同时间的行为不一致，而且经常不能控制自己的行为，那么可以认为他是不可预测的，失控的。

5.少见的和非传统的：一般来说，人们总是倾向于用自己的标准去衡量别人是否变态；自己愿意做的或接受的行为，就认为是合理的正常的；罕见的和不受欢迎的行为，就认为是变态的，既少见又不受社会欢迎的行为往往容易视为变态。

6.其他人感到不适。

一个人的行为只使自己感到舒适，却让别人不舒服，也会被看成变态。

2.判断一个人是否变态有三个基本标准：心理功能紊乱、痛苦或损伤、非典型性反应。
