读书笔记:《无声告白》里的父母 (英文)Everything I Never Told You is a beautiful but poignant novel about a -year-old girl’s death and her mixed-race family as the only Chinese American family in a small town in Ohio in .It was Chinese American writer Celeste Ng’s debut novel, but has enjoyed great success in both the United States and China. On , it got 4, reviews; while in China, its Chinese translated edition received , reviews on , and , people reviewed it on .Readers in both nations have discussed one of the center themes in the novel -- that the young generation need to break free from the burden of parents’ expectations and find their own place. In this book review, however, I want to focus on the girl’s father James and her mother M arilyn.I will explore how they both fail in their life struggles and how they end up placing their burdens on their daughter, which causes her breakdown. When a young girl commits suicide, the first and most important question is: How has everything gone so wrong? The author asks this question in chapter two and answers immediately:How had it begun? Like everything: with mothers and fathers. Because of Lydia’s mother and father, because of her mother’s and father’s mothers and fathers. B ecause long ago, her mother had gone missing, and her father had brought her home. Because more than anything, her mother had wanted to stand out; because more than anything, her father had wanted to blend in. Because those things had been impossible. It occurs to me that here the author points out two problems: (1), that Marilyn thinks so highly of standing out that she might sacrifice anything else to achieve it, and James, contrastively but in some sense similarly, values most the ability to blend in and let the desire to blend in defeat other feelings and longings of his; (2), unfortunately, it has been impossible for both of them to fulfill their aspirations. Why these aspirations are so important for them, and why they turn out to be impossible to fulfill? We need to analyze the reasons from several aspects.First, when she was a young girl, Marilyn’s ambition to stand out is, in some sense, her protest against the rigid discrimination ideology of gender but her isolation makes her protest futile. She sees her mother’s insistence on abiding by the traditional role of a woman meaningless and ironic. Besides, her mother also obliges her to be a traditional woman as well. Marilyn is disappointed and angry with her mother. Moreover, when she marries a Chinese American man she loves, she again confronts her mother’s racism and gets even more disappointed and angry. Many times of confrontations with her mother push Marilyn to isolate herself from her mother, and her mother from Marilyn.People would think isolation is necessary and a sort of solution to conflicts. However, nobody is a lonely island in the world. The sexism and racism could only be changed through communications little by little. It seems that by ending relationship with her mother Marilyn gets her own life, however, actually she did nothing to change the attitudes of her mother. Sexism and racism remain in her mother’s mind. It is clear that Marilyn stilllives in an unfavorable, unmoved world and therefore her isolation is ineffective protest.Second, since a woman’s dream of becoming a doctor is really hard to fulfill at any time, even harder when she has to take care of her kids, she needs to reach out for help. But she doesn&#;t.Escaping her responsibilities as a mother to fulfill her dream to be a doctor is extremely unrealistic and doomed to hurt everyone in the family. It is not impossible if she gets understanding and support from her husband and kids, even from her mother, and make plausible arrangements together with them. Unfortunately, She treats her mother, who is a teacher and very adept in housekeeping and could possibly be her support and resource, as only enemy to escape from. Worse, she even won’t disclose her ambition to her h usband to win his support. Why? It seems she believes she either disowns her kids to go to medical school or she gives up her dream to take the role of keeping a house. She assumes that no one would support her, not her husband, or her mother, or her kids.To some extent it is true, from James’ response when she expresses she wants to work: “No. When I get tenure, we’llhave all the money we need,” and from the professor she wants to work for: “I had no idea you were actually serious about that. With your children and your husband and all.”It is understandable she is a lonely soldier in . She is inevitably overwhelmed and silenced by difficulties of clarifying misunderstanding and balancing study and family, never reaches out for help, escapes without explaining, and brings horrible harm to her children. I strongly argue at least some nonsupport is from misunderstanding and she could have tried to eliminate it or change it to understanding and support. As Iris Chang depicts in her The Chinese in America, given all the obstacles faced by Chinese Americans in the s, Bessie Jeong, one of the nation’s earliest Chinese American women physicians, approaches life with a mixture of natural optimism and resilience. She harbored no bitterness toward her tradition-bound family and even reconciled with her father. She had a wide circle of friends. She proved adept at managing a career along with a family.Although women like Bessie Jeong were rare, it is certain that women do have a choice, no matter how enormous the pressures are, to balance their career and family.Meanwhile, Marilyn’s husband, James, has also got a lot of things wrong. It seems to me that he bears an original sin, that is, his father came to American under a false name. “Everyone’s name was false”, the author writes, “Everyone hoped not to be found out and sent back. Everyone clustered together so they wouldn’t stand out.”On the one hand, James would blend in at any cost, including bending his head when his father was called to the classroom to mop up a spill and walking to and from school alone to pretend he had no connection with his Chinese parents; on the other hand, he considers Marilyn’s love as the symbol of “America herself” taking him in. He feels it is too good to be true. He fears that “she might suddenly realize her mistake and disappear from his life as suddenly as she had entered”. He overly indulges in this insecurity and gradually fixes it as the nature of his relationship with his wife.I could not say that he does not love his wife, but it is not love when he has no intention at all to learn about her bitterness toward her mother’s sexism and racism and her inner struggles as a woman who has a career ambition. His insecurity dominates his marriage and leads him tointerpret wrongly her behaviors many times. Without any confidence in Marilyn’s love, he believes she might leave him anytime. Finally, he commits adultery desperately in the crisis of his daughter’s death. It is undeniable that the discrimination against Chinese in America has been so demoralizing that it leads to a series of sins: false names, pretending having no connections with parents instead of honoring them, slapping his son for not trying to blend in, and even adultery. It also brings deep sorrow and heavy insecurity. James and his parents have been surrounded by the institutionalized discrimination wherever they go. No matter how hardworking they are, life is always oppressing. His father died soon after hi s mother died of cancer because “his father simply hadn’t wanted to live alone”.James never shared his life before he meets Marilyn because nearly everything about his parents is sad, because he fears that she would see him as “a scrawny outcast, feeding on scraps, reciting his lines and trying to pass. An imposter.”Being outcast, he dreads the word “different” and outbursts violently when his wife says she thought he wasdifferent: “You’ve never had people mock you to your face. You’ve never been treated like a stranger. You have no idea what it’s like, being different.” Years of being discriminated makes him lonely and vulnerable. In order to protect himself from the harsh situation, he has become insensitive to life. He is unable to build empathy with his wife. He could not even understand what she means by “different”.Yet it is not fact that James has no choice. In fact, he makes wrong choice by enduring the oppression silently and allowing shame, insecurity, and weakness to take overself-esteem and autonomy. He could have cared about his wife’s pain of giving up student life and career ambition. He could have supported his children’s wish to be themselves. But he chooses to ignore his wife’s needs, suppress his children’s interests, and coerce them to gain popularity among the whites. It tremendously hurts his family in all aspects. After his daughter dies, he further surrenders to discrimination by admitting his marrying a white girl was a mistake and they and their children would not fit in anywhere, as Marilyn’s mother suggested. “He had hung his head likea murderer, as if his blood were poison, as if he regretted that their daughter had ever existed.”The bitterness evokes both sympathy and anger from Marilyn. Unlike him, she is a fighter. She fights against humiliation from the men and against racism. When she realizes that her husband always expects that she would “regret” their marriage, she is disappointed that he doe not fight together with her.J ames’ life shows that to surrender to discrimination does not lead to happy life, it only results in bitterness. To fit in, especially to assimilate throughself-repression, could be destructive. For his kids, it hinders the development of their self-respect and critical thinking ability necessary to struggle effectively toward their empowerment.Lydia becomes more and more vulnerable during this process until she breaks down. She does not fall apart because she is not a white girl, instead, she could not bearself-repression any longer. As Marilyn mourns over the unfulfilled dream and wants her daughter to fight together with her to be exceptional, however, she oppresses her daughter, in some sense, toembrace what the girl has not wanted. The oppression from your mother who loves you is most unbearable, especially when it is intertwined with strong fear that she might leave you like she did before. In their life, there is no discussion about the mother’s irresponsibility and th e child’s deep psychology damage caused by it. Marilyn does not think she needs her children’s forgiveness and understanding. But the fact is, both she and her children need to discuss equally what “exceptional” means and how they could be empowered to achieve success, like Marilyn finally discusses with James about theword“different” when she painfully discovers his adultery. How “different” has been different for the couple. To James, years of racial discrimination makes this word a humiliation in his entire life; to Marilyn, it is courage and ambition beneath the mundane life of housewife, “thoughts pinging the closed windows like a trapped bee”.Communication, even though it is a fight, enables them to understand each other for the first time and sympathize with each other to live a better life in the future. “For the rest of the summer, and for years after that, they will grope for the words that say what they mean: to Nath, to Hannah,to each other. There is so much they need to say.”It is the compassion toward each other that can save them from the terrible suffering of losing a child. And this compassion comes from constant, real communications. They have been silent, trying to forget about the past “with no looking back” to “start a new life together”, but silence only makes things worse, so do the incomplete messages. All the wrenches brought by discriminations need to be righted case by case, just like the world does not get better all of a sudden but slowly from person to person.Everything I Never Told You explores the example of a Chinese American family at the crisis of a daughter’s death. To make sense of how all has gone wrong, it goes back and forth in time, deep and subtly into everyone’s mind, and inside the problems of racism, sexism, family expectations, and misunderstandings. All the poignant details in the novel are saying that human beings, who almost are all suffering to different extents at different stages of life, need the compassion from each other to reconcile and rebuild a future together. And through full, equal communications can they understand what they really mean to let the compassion fallupon each other.。
Everything I Never Told You《无声告白》简析
Good afternoon everyone! I’m standing here to give my group’s presentation. The book we read is Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. During the following time I will introduce this book from mainly 4 aspects and we will see what these four aspects are later. Introduction (author book)I guess almost all of you don’t know this author because I did not know her at all until we chose her book. I will tell you some specific information about her.Celeste Ng (Chinese Name: 伍綺詩) is an Chinese American writer and novelist. She has released many short stories that have been published in a variety of literary journals. Ng's first novel, Everything I Never Told You: A Novel, was released on June 26, 2014 and has won many awards such as Amazon Book of the year as wells as praise from critics. Celeste Ng's parents moved from Hong Kong, China in the late 60's. Her father was a physicist at NASA in the John H Glenn Research Center. Celeste’s mother was a chemist who taught at Cleveland State University. Ng studied English at Harvard. She then attended graduate school at University of Michigan where she earned her Master of Fine Arts in writing. (From Wikipedia)Main charactersJames Lee:Lydia’s father. Professor in Middlewood University. He is aChinese American, whose parents were the first generation immigrated to America. Growing up in a “racial discrimination” environment and always being totally different with everyone, he always tries to blend in them and be the same with them. Maybe that’s why he chose to marry Marilyn. This makes him coward and self-abased. He never faces the reality, on contrary, he always escapes from it.Marilyn: Lydia’s mother. A housewife. She is a white woman, growing up in a single parent family. Unlike James, she wants to be different all the time. And that is partly why she fights against gender inequality and fell in love with James. Because she didn’t realize her own dream, she pushes her wishes on her little daughter, Lydia, and gives her much pressure. She is very controlling and adventurous.Nathan: Lydia’s older brother. Nath is the first child of Marilyn and James. He holds on to his dream and finally makes it come true-enter Harvard to study astronantics. He is a quite sensitive boy and he is dissatisfied with his parents’ preference for Lydia. But at the same time, he likes her sister very much.Hannah: Lydia’s younger sister. Hannah is the youngest child but she is the most watchful one. She is always ignored by the whole family, so she longs for love and she is sensitive to love. She knows everything but she just keeps secrets for everyone.Jack: Lydia’s companion. Jack is the Lee’s neighbor. He pretends to bedandiacal but that’s only his way to hide himself and his feelings towards Nath. He is actually a kind and sensitive boy.Louisa: Assistant of Lydia’s father. She is a Chinese American. She is studying at graduate school. She has a crush on James and they have an affair for about 2 months after Lydia’s death.Causes of death:Family influence (life experience)1957James, the academically gifted child of Chinese immigrants spent his entire life yearning to belong and went on to become a university professor, where he met Marilyn in 1957 in a class he was teaching on American culture at Harvard. Meanwhile, Marilyn grew up disgusted by her homemaker mother and longed to become a doctor. When she met James and recognized the racist treatment he had been receiving, Marilyn immediately felt a kinship with him and the two began an affair. Discovering she was pregnant, she arranged for a quick marriage to James and was disgusted when her mother tried to stop the wedding after seeing that James was of Asian descent.•Influence on Lydia:James always wants to be the same with others and Marilyn always wants to be different. That’s why theychoose each other as their partner. The environment where both of them grow up makes them the same kind of person, who doesn’t know how to communicate with and express love to each other . Therefore, they love Lydia but they expressed their love ina wrong way. They forced Lydia to obey their willing. James, Lydia’sfather, cannot blend into the white, therefore, he kept putting force on Lydia’s interpersonal skills, urge Lydia to blend in the white community which made Lydia stressful. Marilyn, Lydia’s mother, felt regretful stopping pursuit her dream to become a woman doctor, so she hoped that Lydia could continue her dream and become an excellent doctor, which brought greater pressure on Lydia. They both cannot set a good example for Lydia, they cannot teach Lydia how to love and be lovable. Growing up in sucha family environment, Lydia always got confused and miserable. 1966Marilyn intended to go back and continue her studies to become a doctor after her son, Nathan, was born, but after a second pregnancy with Lydia she remained a home-maker for eight years. After receiving news of her estranged mother's death, Marilyn returned to her childhood home to deal with her mother's things and had a crisis after realizing that she achieved the home-maker life her mother always desired for her. After briefly returning home, she abandons the family inorder to pursue her academic studies without leaving a note. James believes that she has left because he and the children are Asian and she no longer wants to deal with the societal pressure of being outsiders. Influence on Lydia: Marilyn’s missing changes Lydia’s characters. During the period of Marilyn’s missing, Lydia became extremely sensitive and she eagerly wanted her mother back. That was when she decided that she would do anything Marilyn wanted her to do. Every time her mother asked, she said yes, yes, yes.1966, summerMarilyn's absence lasts nine weeks, during which she realizes she is pregnant with a third child, Hannah. She returns home and realizes she will never have the will to abandon her children and pursue a career again. Instead she begins to encourage Lydia to become a doctor, aggressively training her in math and other sciences. During Marilyn's absence, James also began favoring Lydia and bullying Nath, whom James perceives is as friendless as James was in childhood. Nath becomes jealous of Lydia and one day pushes her into the lake even though she cannot swim. However, the ease with which she falls causes Nath to realize that Lydia is drowning under the weight of her parents expectations. He rescues her and the two become close.Influence on Lydia: 1. Marilyn pushes her wishes on Lydia and gave her much pressure after she is back. Lydia just does what she promisedbefore and she makes efforts to it, being a doctor. However, Lydia is not interested in that at all and we can say that she is always struggling in those classes. 2. Another point is that Nath pushes Lydia into the lake. This plays a vital role on why Lydia chooses to “walk into” the lake one night. Maybe she feels that only in the water can she relax and she won’t be afraid because Nath would rescue her.1977, SpringBy the time they are teenagers, Lydia begins buckling under the weight of her mother's expectations and cannot keep up with the advanced courses her mother encourages her to take. She also is sick of faking for her father that she has friends. She begins to hang out with Jack, her next door neighbor who Nath hates, who has a reputation for deflowering town girls. Meanwhile, Nath, who has spent the past few years being ignored by his parents, is accepted into Harvard. Lydia is scared of being abandoned by Nath and tears up his acceptance letters. When she is caught by Nath, a rift develops between Lydia and Nath. Lydia goes to Jack, hoping to sleep with him; however, Jack tells her he is gay and in love with her brother and his reputation as a Lothario is a lie. Returning home, Lydia is determined to reveal her shortcomings to her father and mother. Tracing back her unhappiness to the time her brother pushed her into the lake, Lydia goes there late at night intending to jump into the water and swim back to shore, but failed to do it, she gotdrowned and die.Influence on Lydia: 1. Nath is admitted to Harvard. This stimulates Lydia. On the one hand, she feels disappointed because she cant handle all those her study stuff; on the other hand, Nath’s leaving makes her feel lonely and she’s afraid to lose him. 2. Lydia is forced to have social contact with others. James always wants her to blend in. But Lydia don’t have any friend. And James makes her embarrassed in front of her classmates. 3. Jack’s frankness hurts her.Individual factor1.Lydia rejects to contact with others. She walls herself off. She is lonelyand sensitive. She hides everything in her heart. Everything needs a way out.2.She doesn’t know how to deal with pressure and difficulties correctly.3.She is quite tender. To some extent, she never grows up. She is alwaysthe “Lydia” who can’t walk out the shadow that Marilyn gets missing. Social factors1.Because of racial discrimination, Lydia can not blend in thoseschoolmates.2.Lydia has no friend. She can’t find a right way to relieve her feelingsand she finds nowhere to pour out.ConclusionFrom this novel, we can learn a lot. We can see that the environment ofa family is vital and that it can even decide a person’s personality and his future life. Parents should treat their children equally and encourage their children. Children should speak out their own dreams and cling to it. Others should not judge people just by their color of skin and appearance. All of us should make efforts to build a more fair society where there is no discrimination.(Hannah):I know everything about you but all I want is that you can know me and love me.-----------Hannah (Lydia):All I want to tell you is that I want to be who I really am and do what I really like to do.---------------Lydia (Nath)Nigh in the smooth ocean of sky floated dazzling majestic stars. There so far away is the place where my dream began. But mom, dad, you arenever willing to enjoy its beauty or understand me.---------------Nath (Marilyn)I’m sorry about what troubles I have put on you. Now I realize that everyone has everyone’s dream and I should encourage you to achieve it.--------------Marilyn。

Excerpts1)There is so much more to do, so much yet to be mended. But for now, he2) thinks only of this, his daughter3), here in his arms. He had forgotten what it was like to hold a child—to hold anyone—like that. How their weight sank into you, how they clung instinctively. How they trusted you. It is a long time before he is ready to let her go.And when Marilyn4) wakes and comes downstairs, just as the light is fading, this is what she finds: her husband cradling their youngest in a circle of lamplight, a tender look of calm on his face.“You’re home,” Marilyn says. All of them know it is a question.“I’m home,” James says, and Hannah rises on tiptoes, edging toward the door. She can feel the room is poised on the edge—of what, she’s not sure, but she does not want to destroy this beautiful, sensitive balance. Accustomed to being overlooked, she sidles toward her mother, ready to slip by unnoticed. Then Marilyn touches a gentle hand to her shoulder, and Hannah’s heels land on the floor with a surprised thump5).“It’s all right,” Marilyn says. “Your father and I just need to talk.” Then—and Hannah flushes with delight—she kisses her on the head, right where the hair parts, and says,“We’ll see you in the morning.”Halfway up the steps, Hannah pauses. From downstairs, she hears only a low murmur of voices, but for once she does not creep back down to listen. We’ll see you in the morning, her mother had said, and she takes this as a promise. She tiptoes across the landing—past Nath6)’s room, where behind the closed door her brother lies in a dreamless sleep, the remnants of the whiskey slowly steaming from his pores;past Lydia’s room, which looks, in the dark, like nothing has changed, though nothing could be further from the truth; all the way up to her own room, where through the windows the lawn outside is just beginning to turn from inky blue to black. Her glow-in-the-dark clock reads just past eight, but it feels later, like the middle of the night, the darkness quiet and thick as a down comforter. She wraps that feeling around her. From up here, she can’t hear her parents talking. But it’s enough to know that they’re there.………………………………………Downstairs, Marilyn lingers in the doorway, one hand on the jamb7). James tries to swallow, but something hard and sharp lodges in his throat, like a fishbone. Once he had been able to read his wife’s mood even from her back. By the tilt8) of her shoulders, by the shifting of her weight from left foot to right,he would have known what she was thinking. But it’s been a long time since he looked at her carefully, and now, even face-to-face, all he can see are the faint wrinkles at the corners of her eyes, the faint wrinkles where her blouse has been crushed, then straightened.“I thought you’d gone,” she says at last. When James’s voice squeezes around the sharp thing in his throat, it comes out thin and scratched. “I thought you had.”And for the moment, this is everything they need to say. Some things they will never discuss: James will never talk to Louisa9) again, and he will be ashamed of this for as long as he lives. Later, slowly, they will piece together other things that have never been said. He will show her the coroner10)’s report; she will press the cookbook into his hands. How long it will be before he speaks to his son without flint11) in his voice; how long it will be before Nath no longer flinches12) when his father speaks. For the rest of the summer, and for years after that, they will grope for the words that say what they mean: to Nath, to Hannah,to each other. There is so much they need to say.In this moment of silence, something touches James’s hand, so light he can barely feel it. A moth, he thinks. The sleeve of his shirt. But when he looks down,he sees Marilyn’s fingers curled over his, the merest curve as they squeeze. He has almost forgotten what it felt like, to touch her. To be forgiven even just this much. He bows his head and rests it on the back of her hand, overwhelmed with gratitude at having one more day.

It will be more beneficial to treat your competitors as rivals rather than enemies.

The feeling of love is so powerful and yet so delicate. It can make us feel alive, but it can also leave us vulnerable. "Silent Confessions" by Japanese author Kanae Hazuki beautifully captures the complexity of love and the struggles that come with it.The story revolves around the lives of two high school students, Shoya and Chika, who are both dealing with their own personal issues. As they navigate through the ups and downs of their relationship, they learn about the importance of communication and understanding. What I love most about this book is its raw and honest portrayal of love. It doesn't sugarcoat the challenges that come with it, but it also celebrates the beauty of it. The characters feel so real and relatable, and their emotions are depicted in such a raw and authentic way.The book also delves into the theme of self-discoveryand personal growth. Both Shoya and Chika undergo significant changes throughout the story, and it'sinspiring to see how they learn to confront their fears and insecurities. The writing style is simple yet profound, and it really allows the emotions to shine through. The author has a way of capturing the essence of love and all its complexities, and it's impossible not to be moved by the story.Overall, "Silent Confessions" is a poignant andthought-provoking read that will stay with you long after you've finished it. It's a reminder that love is abeautiful mess, and that sometimes, the most powerful confessions are the ones left unspoken.。
Silent Confession is a touching and heartwarming story that explores the themes of love, friendship, and the power of communication. The novel follows the lives of two main characters, Lily and Jack, who are both struggling with their own personal demons and insecurities. Through a series of events, they are brought together and form a deep and meaningful connection that ultimately helps them both find healing and redemption. One of the most compelling aspects of the novel is the way in which the author portrays the characters' internal struggles and emotions. Lily, in particular, is a complex and multi-dimensional character who is dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic event in her past. Her journey towards healing is both heartbreaking and inspiring, and the reader can't help but empathize with her as she navigates through her pain and begins to open up to the possibility of love and happiness.Similarly, Jack is also a deeply troubled character who is dealing with his own set of issues. His struggle with addiction and self-doubt is portrayed with raw and emotional honesty, and the reader can't help but root for him as he begins to confront his demons and take steps towards a better future. The relationship that develops between Lily and Jack is beautifully written and incredibly moving. Their interactions are filled with moments of tenderness, vulnerability, and genuine understanding, and it's impossible not to be swept up in the depth of their connection. The author does an excellent job of capturing the complexities of human relationships and the ways in which they can both heal and hurt us.Another aspect of the novel that I found particularly compelling was the way in which the author explores the theme of communication. Both Lily and Jack have been deeply scarred by their past experiences, and as a result, they struggle to express their feelings and open up to others. However, as they begin to trust each other and share theirinnermost thoughts and emotions, they both experience a profound sense of liberation and healing. This serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of honest and open communication in our relationships and the ways in which it can help us overcome our personal struggles.Overall, Silent Confession is a beautifully written and emotionally resonant novel that delves deep into the complexities of human emotion and the power of love and connection. The characters are richly drawn and the storyis filled with moments of both heartache and hope. It's a novel that will stay with me long after I've finished reading it, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a moving and thought-provoking read.。

Everything I Never Told You英语读书报告
Book report of Everything I Never Told You The novel is about an American family that a couple who didn’t become what they wanted to be in their young for a variety of reasons, put all of hope on their daughter. The daughter named Lydia was afraid that her mother would disappear again, her father would crumble, and the whole family would collapse once more, so she did everything her parents wanted, tried her best to become what they wanted her to be. However, that’s not what Lydia wanted. One day, Lydia made a new set of promises. She wanted to tell her parents: enough. Waiting till that time, she would do what she wanted. She wanted to prove that she could get rid of her mother's control by overcoming her fear of the lake. She went to the center of the lake as the beginning of her new life, but to drown unexpectedly at that time.In a manner of speaking, it was her family that pushed her to death. Because of Lydia’s mother and father, because her mother had wanted to stand out, and her father had wanted to blend in.The daughter believed that the reason her mother used to leave and hated this family was that she had not done well enough, so she secretly vowed to satisfy all his mother's wishes. Every time her mother said Do you want—? she had said yes. She just wanted her happy.Parents thought that Lydia was a perfect child, clever and sensible. Parents saw her as the only hope in their miserable life, but these affection and expectation have forced her to death. Her parents only wanted her to quickly become their dream daughter, but didn’t know that this so-called love wasn’t what Lydia wanted at all. At the same time, when parents put all the expectation on Lydia, her brother and sister became neglected children.Parents often use their own expectation of children to plan their children’s lives, the protagonist used her death to tell her family, also tell us, only when we learn to communicate equally, think of everyone in the family as an independent individual, home can really bring everyone love and warmth. As a saying goes, the child is the continuation of the life of parents. But many parents think that they can plan the whole life of their children. That's not right. Parents often tend to devote all their lives to their children. Parents do love their children. However, they shouldn’t let children continue their own life, but let them really live out of their own.True love is not a compromise with our parents, but even if our parents don't understand us, we still communicate patiently with them and don’t give up the possibility of letting us understand each other.。
