Good morning everyone, the topic I'll show you today is the college students’ fertility concept.I’m gaojianand I made the ppt and will do the lecture. My partnerwangyuanqing helped me make the online survey and do the statistics. And that’ what I’m going to talk about later, I’ll talk about some simple knowledge about the fertility concept and then show you what we got in our survey and do some analysis, and finally make a chief conclusion.
Fertility concept, or birth concept, is a series of relatively stable ideas about getting married and have their babies. It differs in different societies and different times, it is affected by culture, country policy and in return, it has a profound influence on the future development of the nation. So we all know that the traditional concept of China has two features, the first is many. Almost every family in ancient China hoped that they can have many babies and that’s the symbol of a happy family. The other feature is they value boys more than girls, for a boy grows up and can support his parents, but once a girl is married, she is like the spilt water. So in conclusion.
But now it’s a totally different time and due to the rise of women rights and people’s better living standards, the fertility concept is changing too. They don’t pay much attention to whether they are gottahave a son or a daughter, and nowadays young people are facing bigger and bigger pressure, they need to get a well-paid job, pay for the loan of their house, the expense on children is huge, no less to say that they may have to support their parents, so they tend to have less kids. And it is becoming popular among them to be a dink, which means double incomes no kids.
Now let’s see the two main policy on the topic. The first one, family planning policy, or say one-child policy. It was firstly proposed by mayinchu and in 1982 it became a basic state policy and the first law came into being in 2001. The policy greatly changed the population structure of China and truly controlled the increase of the population. But it also has some negatives, for example, now there are more than 200 million people older than sixty, and this is called ageing of population. And to solve the problem, the government carried out the two-child policy on the first day of 2015.
Now the second part.We did an online survey to learn about the fertility concept of current college students. The target people are students in our university but sadly we received only 35 samples. 60 percent of them are boys, 40 percent for girls and most of them are in twenty or twenty-one. We did the statistics according to genders and the three main questions we ask are when they are going to get married ,when to have babies and how many sons and daughters they want. And here are the charts.
From this chart we can see that in all, about half of them hope to get married in 24 to 27 and the other half in 28 to 31. And 9.5 percent of male students choose to get married in 32 or later, maybe there are too many competitors. This is about when people want to have babies. For female students, 14 percent are before 27, and the rest are focused on 28 to 30. For male students, there is a proportion on 27. This chart is about kids. It’s obvious that most of them want two kids, a boy at first and then a girl, so I guess they do not want the kids alone and the brother can look after his young sister. But this may be not very realistic. Also we can find out that male
