Should animals be used in testing new drugs and procedures?Sample 1:Medical research involving animals has dramatically improved the health of the human race.(paraphrase)Without animal testing, the cure for polio would not exist and diabetics would suffer or die from their disease.(one side)Despite these benefits, some people believe that animals should not be used for testing medical techniques and drugs.(opposite side)This essay will outline the advantages of animal testing.(thesis)Sample 2:Every year, millions of animals undergo painful suffering or death as a result of scientific research into the effects of drugs, food additives, cosmetics and other chemical products.(paraphrase)While most people think animal testing is necessary,(one side) others are upset by what they see as needless suffering.(opposite side)This essay looks at some of the positive and negative aspects of animal testing. (thesis)Sample 3:Today, it is not uncommon to use animals for experimentation purposes in medical research or cosmetics business.(paraphrase)In this essay, I will look at the pros and cons of animal testing. I how to explain an idea真题举例:Topic: Should governments continue to finance public schools?Viewpoint: Governments should continue to finance public schools.Main body 1:First and foremost, government funding of public schools gives many children, especially those economically disadvantaged, opportunities to get proper education. Not all parents can afford to send their children to private schools because of the increasing tuition fees. Through this way, public schools play an important role in the society. They give more children opportunities to get proper education since these schools are cheaper and more affordable.Main body 2:Moreover,having sufficient funding means the ability to hire excellent teachers for public schools. If governments continue funding public schools, then these schools will have sufficient budget to pay for top caliber teaching staff. Excellent teachers do not come cheap most of the time. Their experience and knowledge should be well-comprehended. In other words, their salaries should be commensurate with their academic achievement.II How to give examples and facts真题举例:Topic: Do the negative influences of media outweigh its positive ones?Body paragraph:Sometimes, discussing the merits and demerits of the various forms of media is extremely complex. By this I mean the same thing can be both bad and good. For example, many people worry about the violence in TV programs and their effect on young people.Conversely, many people consider that these same programs are an opportunity for us to release our stronger emotions, our feelings of anger or anxiety. Topic: With the increasing use of mobile phones and computers, less people tend to write letters. Some people even think the skill of writing letters will disappear completely. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Body paragraph:In spite of all this, there are certain occasions when letters are still the number one choice. The wedding invitations always seem more formal and sincere if hand-written; holiday cards with ink will often delight us more; and a carefully written love letter may intrigue or move your beloved one more easily. So letter writing is still necessary even in this Internet era andsometimes unique with its physical being as against other virtual forms of communication. Clearly, there is still a place for the hand-written letter and there is no evidence that this place will be taken by technology in the future.III How to make comparison and contrast1. Topic: The advantages and disadvantages of performing daily tasks online. Body paragraph:It is clear that fulfilling some tasks without seeing people face to face is highly efficient. In the past,if we needed to buy something, we had to go to the shopping mall, but nowadays all can be done with a click of a mouse and the goods will be delivered home, even at a lower price. And if we want to make a transaction from one bank account to another, we do not have to go directly to a bank and wait for a desperately long queue; instead we may comfortably make use of the self-banking service at home provided access to the Internet. Thus, efficiency of work and life has been both highly improved owing to the technological advances.2. Topic: The importance of learning computer technologyBody paragraph:It is important that college students should learn adequate computer skills. This is an information age where the Internet is a master key to almost all the knowledge and information available. So a good understanding of the computer technology will give a student an edge in the society today. On the other hand, if one has little knowledge of computer skills, the student will probably lag behind the times, in danger of being excluded from what is going on in the world.3. Topic: Is the city life a better choice for children?Body paragraph:What is more, children can enjoy a more colorful life in cities. There are various cultural activities organized and more advanced facilities available for children to enjoy, such as exhibitions, galleries, museums and theaters. Therefore, in cities children are much more experienced and knowledgeable than those in the country, who live a simple and monotonous life and tend to be more unenlightened for lack of adequate information.IV How to classifySample Topic: Send children to boarding schools or day schools?Viewpoint: Children should be sent to boarding schools.Body paragraph:Boarding schools are ideal for parents whose work takes them aboard or who are otherwise unable to offer t heir children a “normal” home life after school and at weekends. The children are looked after by professionals and the children learn to be independent of their parents from an early age. Topic: Some people argue that teaching children of different abilities together benefits all of them. Others believe that intelligent children should be taught separately and given special treatment. Discuss both views and how do you think about it.Viewpoint: Students should be taught separately.Body paragraph:The most obvious advantages lies in the fact that it allows teachers to employ different pedagogic strategies suited to the particular group of pupils. For example, for the more intelligent students who are more likely to have a quicker mind and a stronger knowledge thirsty intention, teachers or tutors can include something more difficult or complex in their syllabus, catering for the special needs. On the other hand, some other students who are not that intelligent may be slow at learning or acquiring new knowledge or skills, a correspondingly suitable teaching strategy then is highly desirable. In this case, the separate teaching scheme is generally good for both groups of students, since teachers can thereafter design different courses and teaching methods catering for their special needs.(二) 驳论段写作Sample 1真题举例:Topic: Should costs of higher education be paid by the government? Viewpoint: The costs can be paid by government loads.Body paragraph:With a tendency to hold that higher education is no longer compulsory, many people then claim that it should be funded by students themselves instead of the government. This indeed reduces governments’ financial burden to a certain extent and it is argued that students’ motivation would be highly strengthened since they have paid a large amount of fees to obtain the access. But the downsides should not be neglected. That is mainly tosay, the economically disadvantaged groups, for example, children of impoverished farmers in remote rural areas and laid-off workers in cities, may be put at an extreme disadvantage, and therefore should be assured of an equal chance to access the university education by the government. Topic:Some people believe that air travel should be restricted because it causes serious pollution and uses up the world’s fuel resources. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Viewpoint: Disagree with the opinion.Body paragraph:Of course, there is no denying that traveling by plane produces greenhouse gases and is fuel-consuming. But one fact should be made clear that the main source of world’s emissions is private cars rather than airplanes. Moreover, alternative energies are being explored and some have already come into being. It is imaginable that in the near future we will be able to enjoy the journey from Beijing to London in planes powered by new energy. Topic: Should governments fund space exploration? Conclusion:To conclude,I am in support of the opinion that governments should fund space exploration. However, they should only allot a reasonable budget for this for the fact that their top priority is always to improve the living conditions of their citizens. Topic: Differences between countries are becoming less evident nowadays. People tend to have the same films, music, brands, TV channels, etc. To what extent do you think the disadvantages outweigh the advantages? Conclusion:Overall, I am quite optimistic about the prospect of an increasingly similar world. Of course, some minority groups may be put at a disadvantage for they cannot receive equal attention as the superpowers. So I also advocate that government or other bodies should make efforts to bring these minorities into the international horizon.。

Some countries spend a lot of money on making it easier to use bicycles in cities, why? Is this the best way to solve traffic problems? There are multiple reasons for the government’s allocating funds for making bicycle travels easier. On the one hand, this can improve the convenience of residents' travel. When people want to go to places that are close and not accessible by public transport or the metro, they can reach their destination more quickly by cycling rather than walking. On the other hand, the government wants people to use bicycles more often and to reduce their reliance on private cars. A large number of cars causes many problems, such as severe traffic congestion and environmental pollution caused by exhaust emissions. Thus, providing easier access to the use of bicycles serves as an encouragement for them to embrace the low-carbon commuting pattern, which can help solve traffic problems. There are multiple reasons for the .... On the one hand, this can .... On the other hand, ....Thus, ...serves as an encouragement for them to ..., which can help ....However, the wide use of bicycles alone won’t be enough for solving the traffic problems. For one thing, the use of bikes is highly restricted to weather conditions and the riders’physical health. Once a storm bursts or rain falls, it becomes impossible for the citizens to go out by bike. For another, long-distance travel still requires speediness and easiness, which are apparent features that a bicycle ride does not have. In that case, the advantages of developing public transport and metro lines are even more obvious. Not only does it enable people to get to more distant places quickly and with less effort, but it also serves to ease traffic congestion and reduce air pollution. However, the wide use of ... alone won not be enough for .... For one thing, the use of .... Once a ..., it becomes impossible .... For another, ... Not only dose it enable ...。
Task:Some people think getting old is bad for them in the modern world, while others think older people today live better lives in the past. Discuss both views and give your opinion. 1. the old, old people, the elderly, seniors, the aged2. extended family, core family, be isolated/separate from3. in the past, decades ago; at present, currently, in the current era, contemporarily正文:When it comes to the issue about the life quality of the elderly, some people argue that the life quality of the old has been improved a lot, but others believe that individuals still dread growing older. On one hand, the elderly’s lives are better guaranteed by governments in the current era. In the past when there existed wars and other disasters like famine, old citizens cannot enjoy their lives comfortably and their safety may even be threatened. However, with peace and development becoming the mainstream currently, governments of most countries focus on economic development. Then, the social welfare system could function better to maintain the life quality of the elderly and their security could be ensured as well .On the other hand, it seems that seniors also have new problems contemporarily. In the past when individuals lived close to their extended family, the emotional ties among them were much stronger andthe old might not feel lonely. However, people nowadays intend to dwell individually in order to better protect their privacy and freedom. Such a phenomenon leads to that many old people have to live separately from their children, because of which they are prone to feel being isolatedat present. From my own perspective, these two opinions do not necessarily contradict each other and both of them reflect the truth about the elderly’s lives. It is true that modern technology enables seniorcitizens to better enjoy their lives. For example, laundry machines and intelligent vacuum cleaner robots successfully liberate the elderly from labor-intensive work, which allows them to spare more time on leisure activities. However, it cannot be denied that mental health may be a potential issue for many old people since they lack interaction with their children or other relatives. Thus, in order to really improve the elderly’s live s, the elderly could attempt to visit their children and friends more frequently to avoid mental diseases, such as depression.【拓展阅读】雅思写作技巧1.Task Achievement (任务完成度)——就是你是否覆盖了所有的写作要求雅思写作有大小两个写作任务(Task1和Task2),大家在写作之前一定要进行审题,其实雅思写作是很容易偏题或是审错题的!

1. WRITING TASK 1 2. WRITING TASK 2WRITING TASK 1You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.1.WRITING TASK 1 You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. The diagram shows how chocolate is made. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and by making comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words. The diagram illustrates the process used when making chocolate products from cocoa beans. First of all, the beans are cleaned and roasted. Afterwards, they are broken and the shells removed. Then, chocolate liquor is made from the nibs using a process called milling. The chocolate liquor can then be processed in two separate ways, depending on how the end product is to be used. If the end product is cocoa powder of cocoa butter, the liquor goes through alkalisation and fat pressing. Fat pressing produces a substance called presscake and another called cocoa butter. Presscake is broken, ground and sifted into cocoa powder whereas cocoa butter is mixed with chocolate liquor to make chocolate. If the end product is chocolate, the chocolate liquor is combined with milk, sugar, flavouring and some of the cocoa butter produced from fat pressing. The ingredients are mixed and relined before tempering, or cooling, takes place. Afterwards, the chocolate could be moulded into products such as bars of chocolate. Otherwise, It could go to enrobing, where it rovers other ingredients as part of chocolate-coated products.WRITING TASK 2You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.2.WRITING TASK 2 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: Some advertisers have increased the amount of money they spend trying to persuade children to buy snacks, toys and other goods. Parents object to such pressure on their children, but advertisers claim there is useful information in these advertisements. Discuss both points of view and give your own opinion.Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words. There is great concern about the effects of advertisements on adults, but even greater concern about their effects on children. In my opinion, ads dearly aiming to sell products to children should be limited. In this essay, I will give my reasons for thinking this. One reason that parents object to advertising pressure on children is that children are more likely than adults to be influenced by non-factual aspects of advertising, such as bright culours and famous stars appearing in ads. This can lead to children wasting money (either their own or their parents) onthings that they don’t really need. The way in which advertisers continually focus more on non-factual aspects of advertisements also suggests that advertisements are not so concerned with informing people as they claim. Another problem as far as parents are concerned, is that advertisers spend much more money on advertising products that can be unhealthy for children, such as fast food and snack foods. Advertisers claim that they only encourage children to consume such products in moderation, but such messages, if indeed there are any, only appear as minor suggestions in very small print. A third problem for parents is that children often pressure their parents to buy them things, often simply because their friends have them. This can be particularly distressing for parents, since kids often try to associate the number of things their parents buy them with how much their parents love them, which is simply untrue and unfair. Parents who are on low incomes will obviously find the pressure even greater. Advertisers may claim that there is useful information in their ads, but this is very hard to discern. Many advertisements show stars playing sports or people enjoying themselves. It is hard to justify the suggestion that drinking a certain drink will turn you into a sports star or that eating a bar of chocolate will suddenly turn you into a fun person. To conclude, I think that parents are right to be concerned about how advertisements affect their children.。

Task 1The line graph shows the sales of children’s books, adult’s fictions and educational books between 2002 and 2006 in one country. The line graph compares the sales of three different kinds of books during the period from 2002 to 2006.In 2002, the figure for adults’ fictions came top with 45 million dollars, followed by that for children’s books and educational books. Afterwards, the sales of adults’ fictions d ecreased quickly to 37 million dollars. Despite a slight increase in the following year, they experienced a drop of 10 million dollars from 2004 to 2006.By contrast, there was a big rise of 16 million dollars in the sales of children’s books during this p eriod. In 2002, they were 33 million dollars and ended up at 56 million dollars in 2006 when they were the highest among these three kinds of books. When it comes to the figure for educational books, it fluctuated between 2002 and 2006. It was the smallest at the beginning 25 million dollars), although it exceeded the figure for adults’ fictions in the end (33 million dollars).Overall, the scales of children’s book and educational books rose markedly while the popularity of adults’ fictions dropped.(177)Task 2 (社会类双方讨论型—分析两方观点的好处,并提出自己的观点)Some people think that the amount of noise people make have to be controlled strictly, others say that people are free to make as much as they wish. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.范文1It is generally agreed that making noise is impolite behavior. Some people hold a position that general public has the responsibility to control their noise strictly but others consider whether to make noise is a personal right. In my view, noise should be controlled depends on different conditions. It is inevitable to make some noise in daily life. For example, in the final of World Cup, every fan will rise to their feet and cheer wildly when their favorite player scores in the final minute of the game. Likewise, the public will also cheer and even scream, making a series of high pitched sound, to welcome festivals like carnival or the New Year. People make noise in these situations in order to express their positive emotions, which is reasonable and acceptable. However, to control noise is necessary in most cases, both for individual and society. To individual, employees can increase their work efficiency in a quiet working environment. Too much noise distract people’s attention so that they may not complete thei r urgent task on time. Besides, some medical research has proved that noise may cause negative influence on people’s physical health and even result in some diseases, such as heart attack and high blood pressure. Therefore, it is better for people to keep away from noise for physical and mental health. From the social perspective, controlling noise reflects people’s mutual care and attention. Only in this way can people build a harmonious social relationship, both in relatives and coworkers. If everyone did not make any unnecessary noise, society could be more peaceful. In conclusion, although much noise throughout our life is unavoidable, it should be controlled by the government since it may be harmful for personal health and social harmony.
In my opinion, the most important factor for success in life is perseverance. Perseverance means never giving up, no matter how difficult the situation may be. It is the ability to keep going even when faced with obstacles and setbacks.Perseverance is important because it allows us to overcome challenges and achieve our goals. Without perseverance, we are more likely to give up when things get tough. For example, imagine someone who wants to become a doctor. They will face many years of studying and hard work before they can achieve their dream. Without perseverance, they may give up along the way and never reach their goal.Another reason why perseverance is important is that it helps us to learn from our mistakes. When we face failure or setbacks, it is easy to become discouraged and give up.However, if we persevere and keep trying, we can learn from our mistakes and improve. For instance, Thomas Edisonfailed many times before he finally invented the light bulb. If he had given up, we would not have this important invention today.Furthermore, perseverance is important for personal growth and development. When we face challenges and overcome them, we become stronger and more resilient. We learn valuable lessons and develop important skills such as problem-solving and resilience. These skills are not only important for success in our careers but also for our personal lives. In conclusion, perseverance is the key to success in life. It allows us to overcome challenges, learn from our mistakes, and grow as individuals. Without perseverance, we are more likely to give up and never achieve our goals. Therefore, it is important to cultivate perseverance and never give up on our dreams.
Some people who have been in prison become good citizens later, and it is often argued that these are the best people to talk to teenagers about the dangers of committing a crime. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is true that ex-prisoners can become normal, productive members of society. I completely agree with the idea that allowing such people to speak to teenagers about their experiences is the best way to discourage them from breaking the law.
In my opinion, teenagers are more likely to accept advice from someone who can speak from experience. Reformed offenders can tell young people about how they became involved in crime, the dangers of a criminal lifestyle, and what life in prison is really like. They can also dispel any ideas that teenagers may have about criminals leading glamorous lives. While adolescents are often indifferent to the guidance given by older people, I imagine that most of them would be extremely keen to hear the stories of an ex-offender. The vivid and perhaps shocking nature of these stories is likely to have a powerful impact.

The topic of the essay is about the impact of technology on our lives. In my opinion, technology has greatly influenced our daily lives in various aspects.Firstly, technology has revolutionized the way we communicate. With the advent of smartphones and social media platforms, we can easily connect with people from all over the world. We can send messages, make video calls, and share our thoughts and experiences instantly. For example, I have friends who live in different countries, and thanks to technology, we can keep in touch regularly and share our lives with each other.Secondly, technology has transformed the way we work. Many jobs nowadays require the use of computers and other technological devices. This has increased productivity and efficiency in the workplace. For instance, I work as agraphic designer, and technology has provided me with various tools and software that enable me to create stunning designs in a shorter amount of time.Furthermore, technology has also impacted the way we access information and acquire knowledge. The internet has become a vast source of information, where we can find answers to almost any question. We can learn new skills through online courses and tutorials. As an example, when I wanted to learn how to play the guitar, I found numerous video lessons and resources online, which helped me improve my skills. However, it is important to acknowledge that technology also has its drawbacks. For instance, excessive use of technology can lead to addiction and social isolation. People may become too dependent on their devices and neglect face-to-face interactions. Moreover, the constant exposure to screens can have negative effects on our physical and mental health.

The customs and traditional ways of behavior are no longer relevant to the modern world. So they are not worth keeping any more. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
The topic of the essay is about the impact of technology on our lives. Technology has undoubtedly revolutionized the way we live, work, and communicate. It has brought about numerous benefits and conveniences, butit has also raised concerns and challenges.Firstly, technology has greatly improved our efficiency and productivity. With the advent of computers and the internet, tasks that used to take hours or even days can now be completed in a matter of minutes. For example, in the past, if we wanted to send a letter to someone, we had to write it by hand, put it in an envelope, and send it through traditional mail. Now, we can simply compose an email and send it instantly. This has made communication much faster and more convenient. Moreover, technology has also enhanced our access toinformation. With just a few clicks, we can search for any information we need on the internet. This has empowered us to learn and acquire knowledge at our own pace and convenience. For instance, if we want to learn a new language, we can easily find online resources, such as language learning apps or websites, that provide interactive lessons and exercises. This allows us to learn anytime and anywhere, without the need for physical textbooks or attending classes. However, the excessive use of technology has also brought about negative consequences. One of the main concerns is the impact on our physical and mental health. Many people spend long hours sitting in front of screens, whether it's for work or leisure. This sedentary lifestyle can lead to various health issues, such as obesity, back pain, and eye strain. Moreover, the constant exposure to social media and online platforms can also contribute to mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression. In addition, technology has also created a digital divide in society. While some people have easy access tothe latest gadgets and high-speed internet, others may not even have basic access to technology. This can furtherwiden the gap between the rich and the poor, as those who are left behind in the digital age may face difficulties in finding employment or accessing essential services.

Genetic engineering is a dangerous trend. It should be limited.
To what extent do you agree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least250words.
Answer:
Over the last few decades, remarkable advances have been made in the field of genetic engineering.Consequently, scientists now have the ability to manipulate genes for a range of purposes, from making improvements in agriculture to experimentation with human genes. The question, however,is whether there should be any limitations on this development. Is this essay,I shall examine both sides of the argument.
Firstly it is clear that genetic engineering has brought about certain benefits in terms of crop production. Now plants, for example, can produce more fruit more quickly. This achievement mean that greater harvests are guaranteed,so that more people can be fed.As for the impact of genetic engineering on healthcare, advocates claim it could be used to cure a range of health-related problems, such as cystic fibrosis and Alzheimer's. Children and adults with these diseases endure terrible suffering, yet with gene therapy, there is a possibility of a better quality of life.
Despite these advantages, there are some aspects of genetic engineering which require ongoing consideration.Critics claim that genetically modified plants have little nutritional value and that they will lead to the eradication of weeds, which many insect species depend on.In the case of gene therapy,it is still uncertain how the alteration of one gene, even though it may be faulty, could affect the functions of the human body in the long term.
In my opinion, the benefits of genetic engineering can outweigh the drawbacks, provided governments and scientists consider the consequences carefully, and put people before profit.
