毕业设计(论文)concidences_in_Oliver_Twist__雾都孤儿情节巧合(英文论文)Oliver Twist is Charles Dickens first fully crafted novel It centers on the hard years of an orphan Oliver Twist and is set against the seamy underside of the Lon2don criminal world Dickens created a lively picture of lowlife under the capitalistic system As the author of the novel he mounted a direct attack on the cold impersonality of the workhouse system representing the class people with hard - heartedness tyranny and hypocrisy He used his unique humor fierce satire and penetrating insight to expose the dark sides of the then society Meanwhile he showed his great sympathy for the miseries and hardships suffered by the working people It is widely acknowledged that the books main theme is positive and optimistic which reflects Dickens held radical ideas at that time and reviews were and are generally favorable However Dickens was severely criticized for introducing many coincidences in the plot of the story For example the first person that Oliver Twist picks pockets happens to be Mr Brownlow a good friend of his fathers Later Oliver is forced by Fagin to accompany Sikes in an attempted robbery of a house needing a small boy to enter a window and open the door for the housebreakers whose owner Mrs Maylie by chance is his mothers eldersister – his aunt Such incidents which seem to be unbelievable are regarded by many as uneven and contrary to the real life Seemingly coincidences become the negative side of the novel Some even go so far as to think Dickens was not well - thought in plotting the story As a novelist Dickens represented English critical realism writing during the 19th century He was highly praised by Karl Marx as one of the excellent novelists in Britain Such a great novelist did not arrange coincidences in the story without purposes Therefore to understand coincidences correctly we must analyze them systematically from all sides rather than the one - sided approach Oliver Twist by Dickens is characterized by a few coincidences especially happy encounters about which some reviews are unfavorable This essay sharing quite opposite opinions to the unfavorable ones proves coincidences have advantages by means of systematic analysis from the following four points Dickens radical ideas his unique artistic style as well as his firm belief good is rewarded with good and evil with evilCoincidences embody Dickens radical ideasDickens wrote Oliver Twist at the age of 25 when he was bursting with youthful vigor imbued with vitality and optimism which became the main drift and purpose of his literary production to the letter While ruthlessly exposing the dark corners of life and fiercely attacking the cynical reality he showed us the good trend in the development of thesociety rather than depicted it as pitch -dark So from his novel readers have a strong sense that life is not utterly hopeless Dickens chose to convey this message through coincidences in the bookOliver is born of a dying mother in a parish workhouse and then sent to an infant farm run by MrsMann until he is nine years old at which time he is then returned to the workhouse again where he is starved and abused Where there is oppression there is rebelling Young and physically weak as he is Oliver is mentally powerful and brave enough to advance to the master and ask for more gruel on behalf of the group In the undertakers he fights for his mothers dignity with Noah Clay pole another of the undertakers boy who offends his late mother though he pays great cost for it - a more severely physical punishment Later he runs away to London alone to seek for new life Such personalities - bravely facing sufferings of life meeting challenges brought about by misery fate and rebelling against the evil forces - are the essential conditions for him to happen to meet Mr Brownlow and Mrs Maylie which serve as Dickens general purpose of arranging coincidences He made it clear that no matter how tragic your lot is no matter how hard your life becomes the unfortunate will certainly get help from good - hearted men to free him from untold sufferings on condition that he is powerful and bold enough to face the reality and fight against the evil forces His ideas guiding literary creation of this kind encouraged those who were then living in an abyss of misery and whoconsequently from his novel saw faintly a streak of light in the dark Meanwhile he warned his readers of the dangers of degeneration So the coincidences that Oliver happens to meet his late fathers good friend Mr Brownlow and his mothers elder sister Mrs Maylie have the implications of Charles Dickens radical ideas - being optimistic intense pursuit of the happiness and his firm belief that tomorrow will be better Creating coincidences is one of Dickens artistic styles - combination of romanticism and realismCreating coincidences is one of Dickens unique artistic styles The Russian literary lion Gorky said realism and romanticism often seemed to combine in great artists Dickens is such a great one who is characterized by his perfect combination of realism with romanticism in writing forming his unique artistic style - mixture of the realistic and the wildly improbable Thus it is not hard to understand that Dickens story is full of legends and melodramas As we all know realistic writers aim at painting pictures in real life by which they manage to reveal the truth of life while romantic writers pay attention to imagination and fascination and they often describe pe2 culiar things in an exaggerated way In Oliver Twist theses two opposite ways of writing are unprecedentedly well- mixed Dickens had a good memory and was endowed with great power of astonishing imagination He had acute eyes sharp ears and nose and an excellent memory that enabled him to bear in mind every subtledetail of things that he had ever seen heard tasted or touched in his life by using this he generated an imagination in which even Shakespeare could not match him Oliver Twist is indisputably alive with such amazing gifts of Dickens Every scene depicted in it is identical to that in real life whether viewed from the perspective of sense of sight hearing touch or taste and smell Moreover his vivid account of characters created great power to astonish his readers In generating the story he used his imagination with marvelous dexterity to create countless coincidences within the plot In a sense his artistic style –creating coincidences was also characterized by exaggeration that is an exaggerated mixture of romanticism and realism Therefore the situations he described in the novel were not the facts that happened really in a certain place at a certain time but the ones that should or were more likely to happen in real life Moreover they were processed or rather exaggerated by the artist Dickens As a result these situations in the book became romantically realistic As Dickens himself said he used romantic realismlargely to express his own moral concepts rather than pursue perfect truth While openly revealing and harshly criticizing hideous features in life he praised ideal human nature and interpersonal relationships He thought themasses had virtues and pure and innocent emotions that had not been affected by capitalistic monetary value forming a sharp contrast withcallousness selfishness tyranny and cruelty of aristocrats and the bourgeoisie As a novelist his finest quality lied in his ability to look at problems objectively - everything has its good and bad sides According to him human nature was of no class Every class has its good people and bad ones Monks is a representative of the unprincipled in the underworld while Mr Brownlow and Mrs Maylie the benevolent with noble mind of the bourgeoisie Such plot of the story shows he had lofty ideals of life which inspire people to fight bravely with the evil forces rather than to surrender to it Through coincidences he hinged his hopes on the beneficent bourgeoisie that they should help the underworld that were born with virtues and noble mindGood is rewarded with good evil with evilDescription of rare incidents reflects Dickensconsistent creative attitudes and aesthetic psychology Viewed from the perspective of the main theme of the novel coincidences indicate that Dickens an optimistic and romantic humanitarian held the concept that good is rewarded with good and evil with evil Yet from his psychology of creation it was his concept of children that urged him to plot the story in such a way In the Bible a child is re2 garded as a symbol of good Pure and innocent children can be compared to angels in Heaven According to the Bible having child - like innocence means keeping good and love Although Dickens was not a Christian his humanitarian ideas were harmonious with the concept ofchildren advocated by the Bible Thus children became symbols of good and love in his mind which was also the key point of his humanitarianism As a result he created happy encounters by usingthe simplest creative method- coincidences in which a penniless hopeless child is offered help from benefactors who free Oliver from sufferings and dangers many times Towards the end of the novel as Oliver is being chased by his half brother villainous Monks who intends to kill Oliver thereby negating the unknowing Olivers claim to his rightful inheritance which would then go to Monks Oliver happens to encounter Mr Brownlow again despite a long period of losing touch with each other This good - hearted gentleman conquers Monks and helps Oliver get his share of in2 heritance - a large sum of money hoping he will start a new life From this coincidence we seem to see Dickens himself is like a lonely and helpless child who is eagerly expecting happy encounter with good - hearted men by whom he will be offered help Creating happy encounters is determined by his aesthetic psychology which corresponds to his great expectations Good survives through every adverse circumstances and triumph at last② and the light will supplant the dark in the endNotes①Anatole 读书笔记之雾都孤儿(全英)

The Reflection of Oliver TwistTell the truth, I could not understand this novel well . About five weeks ago ,I watched the same name film which had a deep impression on me . I was touched by the hero from this novel whose name is Oliver Twist . So then I opened the book to read again . Although there were some differences between the film and the novel, it presented the same thing . I feel that all the facts described is to make the real inner sense more thought-provoking.The themes in this novel can be divided two parts–positive and negative aspect. The first positive theme was kind .In this novel ,kind had defeated the evil .Oliver, Nacy and Rose who were all the representatives of the kind . Although they were born in a poor family and grew up in the dark and criminal world .They still kept an unsophisticated world and a kind heart. No matter how hard they were, they never gave up and corrupt. They showed us their gracious quality .In addition , Nacy treated Oliver as her young brother so that she helped and cared him in many situations even she finally killed by his bloody husband for rescuing Oliver. Brown protected Oliver from murdering because he was kind and sympathetic to him. All they were strong due to their kind hearts ,so in the end , they defeated the evil and conquered. It also told us that everyone should have dignified. I admired Oliver’s bravery . while suffering from starvation and malnutrition for a long period of time, Oliver was chosen by the other boys at the orphanage to request more gruel at dinner one night. He begged for some more soup just because he was very hungry. Nobody can do that . The trainee shamed his mother and he revolted against the trainee. Even he was weaker than the trainee when he was caught by the Fagin, he cried and begged them to send the money and books back to Brownlow. He wanted to preserve his dignify and showed his honesty. I was touched by all these behaviors. The another positive theme is about dream and it is important to us. Just like Oliver, he desired a happy life and the dream made him strive. He just want to have a meal which made him no longer hungry . Finally he realized his dreams because he was kind and aspirant .He obtained Brown’s sympathy and caress and adopted by him . Brown let him live a colorful and happy life. In the end of the novel , with the birds singing, flowers blossoming and breeze playing on face, Oliver worn glasses and seated in the bench and read the famous literary book at their garden. This scene meant a happy ending and Oliv er’ s bright future . I felt excited about it .So I firmly believe that I will achieve my goal , if I make my efforts to do it . In most cases, what you believe is what you will become. With all of the symbolism and moral issues represented in Oliver Twist, all seem to come from real events from the life of its author, Charles Dickens. The novels protagonist, Oliver, was a good person at heart surrounded by the filth of the London streets. Filth that Dickens himself was forced to deal with in his everyday life. But through morals and mere chance Oliver becomes a living symbol. He suffered a lot when he was in his childhood. So I believe that he still wanted to reveal the ugly and cruel and poverty society in which children were treated unkindly at that timeObviously, it presented a theme--poverty. Poverty leading to crime and crime resulting in isolation are the other Themes in the novel. The other had the opportunity to observe the residents of the London streets from close quarters. In order to escape the pangs of hunger and shadow of insecurity, the poor children took to lied ,stolen ,cheated .and they did all criminal things what could do . Nacy's story relates the tale of an unfortunate woman who had fallen into the evil hands of Fagin because of her poverty and destitution. She was haunted by her guilt and regretted her presence in the criminal world. However, she felt helpless in the midst of criminals who fail to understand her feelings and offer her no sympathy. She felt isolated from the world arou nd her. We should have a deep contemplation from Nacy ’death.Greed corrupting the soul of the individual is another negative theme taken up by Dickens in Oliver Twist. Mr. Bumble marries Mrs. Corney for her little wealth and position. This decision costs him peace of mind and independence. Later, in connivance with his wife, he sells Oliver's identity to Monks for a mere twenty five pounds. In the process he sells his soul and suffers the consequences of his act. Fagin decides to make Oliver a thief out of greed for wealth offered to him by Monks. An innocent boy becomes a puppet in the hands of ruthless people. The parochial management of the workhouse treat Olive no better. They sell him to Mr. Sowerberry for five pounds. Dickens turns his anger against these greedy managers and ruthless individuals who harm the life of a boy like Oliver to satisfy their greed, thus corrupting their own souls.By sobbing and pleading people ,Oliver deeply moved the readers. I can image that his face covered by tears and b egged ,“please, please ,help me ,help me !” this is a symbol result of our unjust and poor society . if the living standard in a high level and society runs in a harmonious order, the children like Oliver all will live happy. So the world is dirty but we must maintain a pure soul. Everyone should devote himself to the world and in that way our world will become nice . We must value our present conditions ,study hard and become a useful person for the society as well as make contribution to the society.。

Chapter 2Character Analysis ofOliver Twist
2.1Charles Dickens
CharlesDickens was born on February 7,1812, in Portsea, England. His parents were middle-class, but they suffered financially as a result of living beyond their means. At 11 years old, as his fatherwasin debt, the family was put in a debt prison. Forced by the plight, he had become a child labor in a boot and shoe cream workshop. Themiserable experience in his young mind left psychic trauma, not only his deep concern and sympathy for the unfortunate children, and prompted him to struggle to escape poverty. As a young adult, he worked as a law clerk and later as a journalist. His experience as a journalist kept him in close contact with the darker social conditions of the Industrial Revolution, and he grew disillusioned with the attempts of lawmakers to alleviate those conditions.

OliverTwist(小说的读后感)五篇第一篇:Oliver Twist(小说的读后感)The Pure Heart------After Reading Oliver TwistThe background of the novel was London which was called the fog city. The conflicts of the society and between labor and capital were becoming fierce. The poor people’s lives were so hard that many children became vagrants, which was a serious problem then.In this novel, the author revealed many social problems such as workhouse, child laborers, criminal groups’ seducing young people to commit crimes and so on.The novel told a story about an orphan called Oliver Twist who was brought up in the workhouse. He experienced apprentice life and struggled to run away from an undertaker’s shop. Then he wrongly got into a crime group and was forced to be with them. After going through those hardships, he got help from some kind people to know his family information and received happiness.I spend several days to read this novel and get something about my own feeling.I want to express the points that impress me most. When it told about Oliver’s first job as an assistant of a coffin shop, it showed different performance between the poor and the rich.In the novel, there was a man whose wife was died of starvation. The man desperately cried out to people and didn’t move once during his wife’s burial until he fainted to the ground. But for the rich, they cried the loudest in church usually recovered the fastest afterwards. The author made use of Oliver’s pure mind to satirize those rich people’s coldness in hearts:” Oliver was surprised to see all this, and greatly admired them for controlling their sadness so well.”Secondly, I am surprised by Oliver’s goodness, Nancy‘s and Rose’s kindness and Mr.Brownlow’s forgiveness, e specially Nancy’s kindness.Oliver , Nancy and Rose all went through hard life. However, they never gave up their bona. For Nancy, her man treated her so bad and the criminal group also didn’t trust her, but she gave her heart to them and little Oliver. For Mr.Brownlow, even the fact seemed to show the boy had cheated him, he was willing to believe he was a good boy.Thirdly, the will of Oliver’s father impressed me very much.He requested to give all the money to Oliver, if he was of good and kind character. But the money would only go to Monks, if the younger turned out to be as evil as him.How upright and sensible the father was!I admire him. Finally, talking about(an offender)Sikes’ dog, a white dog, which was very loyal to its owner.Sikes tried to cover his tra ce by killing his dog.The dog smelt the man’s fear and ran away from him, nevertheless, it would not like to leave him.At last, it jumped to Sikes’ body and fell dead on stones. The red blood must shelter on the holy and pure body like flowers. In a word, the novel described evils and struggling with bad guys, also those pure hearts. It praised the uprightness and kindness in people’s hearts. It assailed the hypocritical actions of England’s charitable institutions andbeadles’ domineering. At the same time, the novel showed strong romanticism being filled of humanism spirit.第二篇:论文olivertwistThe Unique Visual Angles of “Oliver Twist”Abstract: “Oliver Twist” vividly describes all kinds of vices of the 19th century’s Victoria Age and the living conditions of working people from the unique visual angles of workhouses and slums in East London District. The novel looks on life withchildren’s viewpoint and reflects reality in fairy tales pattern.

Key Words: Charles Dickens; Oliver Twist; critical realist; critical realismAbstract: Charles Dickens was one of the greatest critical realist writers of the Victorian Age. Oliver Twist was one of his masterpieces in reflecting the real and terrible life of the workhouse and underworld in the nineteenth-century London.1.Charles Dickens(1)Historical background of Realism Period (1832-1900)The Realism Period is also called Victorian Period, because it roughly coincides with the reign of Queen Victorian (1837-1901) chronologically. The early years of the Victorian England was a time of rapid economic development as well as serious social problems. The Industrial Revolution geared up.Scientific discoveries and technologic inventions from rail ways to steamships from spinning looms to printing machines quickly brought amazing changes to the country. For a time England was the “workshop of the world.” Large amount of profits were accumulated both from expanding its foreign trade markets and from exploiting its huge-sized colonies. Towards the mid-century, England had reached its highest point of development as a world power. And beneath the great prosperity and richness, there existed widespread poverty and wretchedness among the working class. In the towns and cities where new factories and mines bloomed, population grew at a high rate, which surely resulted in extreme material and mental poverty. Workers and their families, the component of the population, were crowded in the dirty and insanitary slums. The working conditions under which workers toiled were unimaginably brutal, especially in textile factories and coal mines where women and children were widely employed. Then Oliver Twist, Dickens’s protest against the workhouses, was appearing in serial form. The worsening living and working conditions, the mass unemployment and the new Poor Law of1834 with its workhouse system finally gave rise to the Chartist Movement (1836-1848). The English workers got themselves organized in big cities and brought forth the People’s Charter, in which they demanded basic rights and better living and working conditions. The movement swept over most of the cities in the country. Although the movement followed by riots at Newport and imprisonment of chartist s’ leaders and declined to an end in 1848, it did bring some improvement to the welfare of the working class. This was the first mass movement of the English working class and the early sign of the awakening of the poor, oppressed people.Victorian literature, as a product of its age, naturally took on its quality of magnitude and diversity. It was many-sided and complex, and reflected both romantically and realistically the great changes that were going on in people’s life and thought. Great writers and great works abounded. In this period, the novel become the most widely read and the most vital and challenging expression of progressive thought.Among the most famous novelists of the time were the critical realists, and Charles Dickens was one of the greatest critical realists.(2)Brief introduction of Charles DickensCharles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812, in Portsea England in a petty navy office clerk, and suffered from terrible financial problem and forced to work at a blacking factory. For heavy debts, all his families except him were put in prison. So he lived by himself in a horrific condition. Pasting labels on blacking bottles twelve hours by day and sleeping under the counter at night, the child always felt hungry, lonely and ignored. The hardship and suffering inflicted upon the sensitive young Charles had left an everlasting bitter remembrance. The experience of orphan hood haunted him, and then appeared the vivid orphan Oliver. After inheriting some money, his father got out of prison and Charles returned to school. In 1827, Charles entered a lawyer’s office, and two years later he beca me a Parliamentary reporter for newspapers. The journalistic experience not only enabled him to get acquainted with some inside knowledge of the British legal and political system from which he grew disappointed with the attempts of law makers, and give him a chance to meet people of all kinds, but also laid a good foundation for his coming literary career. The novel Oliver Twist can be so successful may due to his veiled protest against the Poor Law in 1834.From 1833 Dickens began to write occasional sketches of London life, which were later collected and published under the title of Sketches by Boz (1836). Soon The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club (1836-1837) appeared in monthly installments. It at once lifted him into a position of fame andfortune. And since then, his life became one of endless hard work. . Many of his novels, with their recurrent concern for social reform, first appeared in magazines in serialised form, a popular format at the time. Unlike other authors who completed entire novels before serialization, Dickens often created the episodes as they were being serialized. The practice lent his stories a particular rhythm, punctuated by cliffhangers to keep the public looking forward to the next installment. The continuing popularity of his novels and short stories is such that they have never gone out of print. His work has been praised for its mastery of prose and unique personalities by writers such as George Gissing, Leo Tolstoy and G. K. Chesterton, though others, such as Henry James and Virginia Woolf, criticized it for sentimentality and implausibility.2.Oliver TwistOliver Twist is now one of my favorite books. I love the plot and the way Charles Dickens wrote them, it makes everything vivid.Oliver is an orphan whose mother is died when giving birth to him and dad is unknown. He is brought up in a farm until he is nine, the workhouse decide to take him. He has a terrible life there, no meat is provided, a little bit porridge is a way not enough for the children. At length, when no more starvation can be borne, Oliver asks for second, he says cautiously " Can I have some more, please."And this question, changes his life completely. Oliver is taken by a benevolent gentleman as a result. The gentleman treats Oliver well, but his wife and other to apprentices don't like him at all. After a fight between Oliver and Noah, Oliver becomes even quieter and more miserable. Finally, he runs away, and reaches the big and dangerous city, London, thinking at least he can find a way to survive. However, he is taken by a gang, who teach Oliver how to steal. When Oliver realizes they are thieves, he runs away again. Fortunately, a kind-hearted gentleman takes him. Oliver spends the happiest time in his life in this gentleman's house...Maybe God doesn't want Oliver to find his happiness so soon, there are much more difficulties waiting for him to conquer. One day, on his way to a bookshop, Oliver is caught by the gang again. They force him to rob. One of the robberies fails, leaves poor wounded Oliver, lying next to the house, which they tried to rob. Funny enough, people in that house take care of him, he even starts learning how to read and write. In the end, every member of the gang's life goes horribly wrong. Oliver's life history is revealed and found out that Rose is his aunt and Monks is his half-brother. Old gentleman adopts him as his son.I think, everything ends up in a nice way!I am so happy for little Oliver, he finally found his felicity. He is an optimistic, not scared ofdifficulties, polite and appreciative boy. He deserves what he gets in the end. The plot is intricate, and every character is masterly linked together. The story of Oliver Twist reflects the darkness of the society. At that time, everyone was intrigued in factory revolution, the whole society looked prosperous. But there were still many people lived poorly, or even struggled to survive. The book displays all the problems of Britain at that time ----- workhouses, hunger, gangs, stealing, etc. That is one of the reasons why this book caused such a great impression and effect. The effort Oliver put in for a better life is very positive; it shows the optimistic of some people, although they didn't live in a good situation.3.Values and defectsThe novel gives strikingly vivid descriptions of the thieves’ den and the London underworld. Here the author succeeds in calling forth the reader’s sympathy for the social environment of the time; either climbs up to be parasites or oppressors of fall victims of who emerges happy and successful in the end.The happy issue which Dicken s’s novel usually ends in comes about as a result of his optimistic belief in the inevitable triumph of good and evil.In his works, Dickens sets out a full map and a large-scale criticism of the nineteenth century England, particularly London. Most of the chapters , even if they may be chapters of bursting fantasy, are deeply rooted in his knowledge of that petty-bourgeois urban world which he knows under the skin, from its prestigious absurdity to its most sordid squalor. A combination of optimism about people and realism about het society is presented from the very beginning. In his early novels (up to 1850), he attacks one or more specific social evils in each: the dehumanizing workhouse system and the dark, criminal underworld, the famous scene in Chapter 2, in which Oliver was beaten up and punished merely because he ventured to ask for a extra portion of gruel to alleviate his gnawing hunger, is only one of the many details to show the extreme brutality and corruption of the oppressors and their agents under the mask of philanthropy. It is in scenes like this that we see the great critical realist voicing the helpless sufferings of the poor and oppressed.Dickens’ works are also characterized by a mingling of humor and pathos. He seems to believe that life is itself a mixture of joy and grief. Life is delightful because it is at once comic and tragic. He is a humorist. Whether he exaggerates a person’s physical traits to achieve a dramatic effect or to ridicule hispersonal defects, whether he means to be light-heartedly jocular or bitterly satirical, he is sure to produce roaring laughter or understanding smiles. The pain strikes people to the heart. Tears are shed unashamedly by men, literate or illiterate. The chief defects of the novel include the improbability of the plot and the unreality of some of the characters. Towards the end of the novel, the novel, the plot gets to be very intricate and the reader is simply mystified, and when the mystery is finally revealed to him, he is faced with impossible coincidences which lead to the happy ending. At critical moments Oliver has been once and again saved by ‘kindly’gentlefolk who. As luck would have it, happen to be his parents’kith and kin. As for improbable characters, Oliver himself is a pale figure who seems to be ever the helpless victim of fate. Fagin and Bill Sikes are too benevolent and good/Here we may see that Dickens, while sympathizing with the miseries of the people, did not know what or who was responsible for such miseries and even cherished illusions about rich, idle but benevolent people like Mr. Brownlow and Miss Maylie. The whole social question, Dickens believed, would be solved if only every employer followed the example set by ‘good gentlemen’like Pickwick and Brownlow. And sometimes Dickens seems so anxious to wring an extra tear from the audience that he indulges himself in excessive sentimental melodrama and spoils the story. However, in spite of these defects, the novel is a powerful exposure of bourgeois society. ‘Oliver Twist’ is one of the best works of Dickens. The merit of the novel is in its truth to reality, sometimes arousing indignation; always full of energy and humor, its fault is in the ending which is in the manner of the sentimental novels of the past century. It is said that the publication of ‘Oliver Twist’ brought about some bettering of conditions in the English workhouse during the author’s day.有时却是刻骨铭心的悲伤……3.降生人世,我们就坐上了生命列车。

Oliver Twist
is Charles Dickens’s second novel and also is the first novel in the English language to centre throughout on a child protagonist and is also notable for Dickens's unromantic portrayal of criminals and their sordid lives.

After that he became a journalist and started writing novels. As an great representative of English critical realism, most of his book was based on the daily life and to reflect the real society. In his works , we see a miserable world ,but we know that is the real world. He wrote Oliver Twist in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London. The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who suffered hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. What’s more,it is an era where people tend to attach more importance to money and self benefit but show less sympathy to those who are in trouble. People seemed to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people's honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. But though the story ,thanks to Oliver Twist , I have seen the strong power of a person’s nature of goodness. He struggled to rise above his criminal companion’s level and never loose hope. That is how can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction could remain pure in body and mind. And that is the power which could remaking the shape of the world in the future, I fully believe it.The novel is a masterpiece ,and the movie which based on the 0riginal seems great too. That is all about what I’m going to say about Charles Dickens and his Oliver Twist.。

Hesuffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed torecover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty. How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don't think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose', he who is withgoodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help aregrateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself. To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people's honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their ‘kindness', they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.Francis Bacon said in his essay, ‘Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin.'That is to say a person without goodness is destined to lose everything. Therefore, I, a kind person, want to tellthose 'vermin-to-be' to learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness. This is a really great book, you should read it.。

But Monks inferior does not change, the family wealthy exhausted, continue to do evil, was finally jailed, died in prison. Bombour had a great deal of evil, had all the duties, and had been living in poverty and for the rest of his life.oliver twist艺术特色"The fog is orphan" in the hero's English name for the Oliver Twist, and Twist its English meaning "twisted, twists and turns, to distress", which implies the hero Oliver's life is very rough, to go through a lot of pain. In this novel plot of protest against the community, Oliver is regarded as a hero, whose purpose is not to touch our literary sensitivity, but to impress our emotions."Fog orphans" in the characters can be divided into twocamps - angel camp and devil camp, the whole novel in the confrontation between the Bodhisattva characters started. Orphans Oliver was born poor but good nature, not received formal education but polite, very educated. And such a lovely boy is born with hunger, poverty, loneliness, and the wicked. In the nursery, the child can not bear the whole day of eating, but also bear all kinds of abuse; in the poor people, Oliver lived a hungry and cold life, just because a little porridge was a blessing of the diocese In the coffin shop, Oliver by apprentice Noah's jealousy and insult; in London thief cave, Oliver was thief's first fee gold and other people framed, almost killed. Just as the positive characters in the fairy tale are always persecuted by the witches, the wicked, and the demons, Oliver in the novel has always had the wicked relative. And this unfortunate child after suffering but metamorphosis, and always retain the kindness of nature, wholeheartedly, and finally hard to come, with the help of good people ushered in a new life. "Fog orphans") succeeded in shaping the image of a group of wicked people, including the proprietor of the parish of the bureaucrats bumbles, jealous of the arrogant coffin folks Noah, sturdy and vicious sikes, Sweet fallen thieves, and inferiority of the Monks and so on. At the same time, the novel also shaped a number of good people to teach difficult to teach: warmth of the old gentleman Brown Lou, enthusiastic Mrs Merry, beautiful good Miss Ruth, helpful doctor, young enthusiastic Mr. Harry Conscientious girl Nancy and so on. In the novel, good and evil people camp clear, against the fierce sharp, as the fairy tale to help the angel and the devil's contest, is a war of justice and evil.Dickens on the protagonist Oliver's image to create a clear fairy tale. Little Oliver lived in the workhouse, and was not welleducated, but he did not have any abuse, but with good kindness and good education, even in the thief library he can sell themselves, Not dyed. This is obviously illusory and unreal, and the novel in the bourgeoisie image of the shape is full of fantasy. Mrs. Brownlie, Mrs. Meri, and Miss Ruth, who has an angelic face and soul, save Oliver with a generous love to make the orphans in danger come again and again. There is no bourgeois selfishness and greed, some of the poor orphans of the savior, the human virtue in a perfect character. In the plot settings, "fog orphans" have too many surreal logic adventures and coincidence, showing a strong fairy tale color. Oliver for the first time with the thief took to the streets, stolen people happens to be his father's friend Brown Lou Lou. In the house of Brown Lou, the portrait of a young woman left by her friend resembles Oliver, and the portrait is his mother. Oliver was lucky to be taken by Brown Lou, and his handling of the broken clothes just fell to the hands of the thief's first fee, so that the whereabouts of the fall so that he once again fall into the thief. Oliver was stolen in the hijacking of the bandits, and was unlucky to be wounded and seized by Sikes in the wild, struggling to climb to the door of a family, and the house was just going to burglary. Even more surprising is the stolen person happens to be his aunt Ruth Meili home. Oliver's mother left his belongings to the hands of the woman, Mrs. Koenig, who later became Mrs. Faber. When Sikes went to Oliver's birthplace, he met Mr. Faber of the bar, so he had successfully bought and destroyed the items that had been claimed by Mrs. Fabre. Some of these episodes coincide in the novel is too numerous to mention, obviously from the reason is difficult to speak in the past, it is precisely because of this adventure to make the orphan story twists and turns, upsand downs."Fog orphans" ending by the sad to hi, good and evil have reported. Oliver is suffering and humiliated, regardless of where he is always good tolerance, loyalty and love, to maintain a pure nature and good soul. Finally hard to get happiness. Good and beautiful Miss Ruth also broke the identity of the trip and the happiness of the combination of happiness. For the wicked people in the novel, the author gave them a miserable fate: the thief's first fee paid by the justice of the trial, on the gallows; Sussex in the escape was stumbled by the rope strangled, and ultimately escape : The thief "can not catch" in order to steal a snuff bottle was sentenced to life extinguished by the court; Monks bad line hard to change, holding family wealthy, and eventually jailed in prison; diocese officer Faber was leather Duties, poverty, in the workhouse for the rest of his life. Although the outcome of such a story has been far from the real life, but the author's good wishes, but it has reached the evil, the purpose of education. "Fog orphans," this kind of good and evil have reported the outcome and punish evil and good writing intentions and fairy tricks coincide.oliver twist。

雾都孤儿英文读后感

雾都孤儿英文读后感

雾都孤儿英文读后感Charles Dickens' renowned novel, "Oliver Twist," is a timeless masterpiece that explores themes of resilience, redemption, and social injustice. Set in the foggy and grimy streets of Victorian London, the story follows the adventures and misfortunes of the young orphan, Oliver Twist. This novel has captivated readers for generations, and after reading it myself, I am struck by its enduring relevance and thought-provoking messages. One of the central themes in "Oliver Twist" is the exploration of the harsh conditions faced by the poor and marginalized in society. Dickens vividly depicts the squalor and misery of London's slums, where poverty, crime, and corruption run rampant. The novel exposes the hypocrisy of a society that turns a blind eye to the suffering of its most vulnerable members. Oliver's journey through the workhouse, the criminal underworld, and the upper-class households provides chilling insights into the stark contrast between privilege and destitution. As a reader, I was deeply moved by the plight of Oliver and his fellow orphans. Their desperate struggle for survival in a world that seemed determined to crush their spirits is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Oliver's innocence and purity of heart shine brightly amidst the darkness that surrounds him. His unwavering belief in the inherent goodness of humanity is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit. Moreover, "Oliver Twist" is a story of redemption and the triumph of good over evil. Despite the many hardships he endures, Oliver manages to maintain his moral compass, refusing to succumb to the corruption and wickedness he encounters. His sincerity and kindness touch the lives of those he meets along the way, eventually leading to his salvation. This theme resonates deeply with readers, as it reminds us that even in the face of adversity, our choices and actions can have a profound impact on ourselves and others. One of the most memorable characters in the novel is Fagin, the cunning and manipulative leader of a gang of juvenile thieves. Fagin's complex personality, blending both malevolence and vulnerability, raises questions about the nature of evil and the factors that contribute to its development. While Fagin is undoubtedly a villain, Dickens hints at the societal influences that have shaped him into the person he has become. This nuanced portrayal challenges readers to consider the root causes of criminal behavior and the responsibility society bears in its creation. In addition to exploring social issues, "Oliver Twist" also delves into the power dynamics inherent in class distinctions. Dickens criticizes the prevalent prejudices of the time, exposing the hypocrisy of a society that values wealth and status above all else. Characters like Mr. Bumble, the pompous and self-righteous beadle, represent the callousness of the upper classes towards the suffering of the poor. This critique of social inequality is a recurring theme throughout the novel, reminding readers that true compassion and justice should not be limited by one's social standing.Through his masterful storytelling, Dickens paints a vivid picture of London in the 19th century. The city itself becomes a character, with its dark alleyways, cramped living conditions, and palpable sense of despair. The use of descriptive language and rich imagery immerses readers in this gritty and unforgiving world, fostering a sense of realism that underpins the novel's social commentary.Furthermore, the writing style in "Oliver Twist" is a testament to Dickens' literary genius. His combination of satire, humor, and pathos creates a compelling narrative that effortlessly combines the horrific with the humorous. The characterization is also superb, with each individual brought to life through their unique quirks and idiosyncrasies. In conclusion, "Oliver Twist" is an extraordinary work of literature that continues to resonate with readers today. Dickens' exploration of social injustice, resilience, and redemption is as relevant now as it was when the novel was first published. The characters and themes in this novel serve as a mirror to humanity, reminding us of the importance of compassion, empathy, and the power of individual choices. "Oliver Twist" is a timeless classic that challenges us to reflect on our own society and the responsibility we bear towards those less fortunate.。

CoincidencesinOliverTwist雾都孤儿情节巧合

CoincidencesinOliverTwist雾都孤儿情节巧合

Coincidences inOliver Twist雾都孤儿情节巧合Oliver Twist is Charles Dickens ' first fully crafted novel. It centers on the hard years of an orphan, Oliver Twist, and is set against the seamy underside of the Lon2don criminal world. Dickens created a lively picture of lowlife under the capitalistic system. As the author of the novel, he mounted a direct attack on the cold impersonality of the workhouse system representing the class people with hard - heartedness, tyranny and hypocrisy. He used his unique humor, fierce satire and penetrating insight to expose the dark sides of the then society. Meanwhile he showed his great sympathy for the miseries and hardships suffered by the working people. It is widely acknowledged that the book' smain theme is positive and optimistic, which reflects Dickens held radical ideas at that time, and reviews were and are generally favorable. However, Dickens was severely criticized for introducing many coincidences in the plot of the story. For example, the first person that Oliver Twist picks pockets happens to be Mr. Brownlow, a good friend of his father's. Later, Oliver is forced by Fagin to accompany Sikes in an attempted robbery of a house, (needing a small boy to enter a window and open the door for the (housebreakers), whose owner, Mrs. Maylie, by chanee is his mother's elder sister - his aunt. Such incidents which seem to be unbelievable are regarded by many as”uneven and contrary to the real life. ”Seemingly, coincidences become the negative side of the novel. Some even go so far as to think Dickens was not well - thought in plotting the story. As a novelist, Dickens represented English critical realism writing during the19th century. He was highly praised by Karl Marx as“one of the excellent novelists in Britain. S”uch a great novelist did not arrange coincidences in the story without purposes. Therefore, to understand coincidences correctly, we must analyze them systematically from all sides rather than the one - sided approach. Oliver Twist by Dickens is characterized by a few coincidences especially happy encounters, about which some reviews are unfavorable. This essay , sharing quite opposite opinions to the unfavorable ones ,proves coincidences have advantagesby means of systematic analysis from the following four points : Dickens'radical ideas ,his unique artistic style as well as his firm belief”good is rewarded with good ,and evil with evil . ”Coincidences embody Dicken'sradical ideasDickens wrote Oliver Twist at the age of 25 , when he was bursting with youthful vigor , imbued with vitality and optimism , which became the main drift and purpose of his literary production to the letter. While ruthlessly exposing the dark corners of life and fiercely attacking the cynical reality , he showed us the good trend in the development of the society rather than depicted it as pitch -dark. So from his novel, readers have a strong sense that life is not utterly hopeless. Dickens chose to convey this message through coincidences in the book.Oliver is born of a dying mother in a parish workhouse and then sent to an infant farm, run by Mrs.Mann, until he is nine years old, at which time he is then returned to the workhouse again, where he is starved and abused. Where there is oppression, there is rebelling. Young and physically weak as he is , Oliver is mentally powerful and brave enough toadvance to the master and”ask for more gruel ”on behalf of the group. In the undertaker's , he fights for his mother 's dignity with Noah Clay pole , another of the undertaker's boy , who offends his late mother , though he pays great cost for it - a more severely physical punishment . Later he runs away to London alone to seek for new life. Such personalities - bravely facing sufferings of life, meeting challenges brought about by misery fate, and rebelling against the evil forces - are the essential conditions for him to happen to meet Mr. Brownlow and Mrs. Maylie , which serve as Dickens'general purpose of arranging coincidences. He made it clear that no matter how tragic your lot is, no matter how hard your life becomes, the unfortunate will certainly get help from good - hearted men to free him from untold sufferings on condition that he is powerful and bold enough to face the reality and fight against the evil forces. His ideas guiding literary creation of this kind encouraged those who were then living in an abyss of misery, and who, consequently, from his novel, saw faintly a streak of light in the dark. Meanwhile he warned his readers of the dangers of degeneration. So the coincidences that Oliver happens to meet his late fathe'rs good friend Mr. Brownlow and his mother 's elder sister Mrs. Maylie have the implications of Charles Dickens'radical ideas - being optimistic , intense pursuit of the happiness, and his firm belief that”tomorrow will be better. ”Creating coincidences is one of Dickens' artistic styles - combination of romanticism and realismCreating coincidences is one of Dickens'unique artistic styles. The Russian literary lionGorky said , realism and romanticism often seemed to combine in great artists. Dickens is such a great one who is characterized by his perfect combination of realism with romanticism in writing , forming his unique artistic style - mixture of the realistic and the wildly improbable. Thus , it is not hard to understand that Dickens ‘ story is full of legends and melodramas. As we all know , realistic writers aim at painting pictures in real life , by which they manage to reveal the truth of life while romantic writers pay attention to imagination and fascination , and they often describe pe2 culiar things in an exaggeratedway. In Oliver Twist, theses two opposite ways of writing are unprecedentedly well- mixed. Dickens had a good memory and was endowed with great power of astonishing imagination. He had acute eyes , sharp ears and nose , and an excellent memory that enabled him to bear in mind every subtle detail of things that he had ever seen , heard , tasted or touched in his life , by using this he generated an imagination in which even Shakespeare could not match him. Oliver Twist is indisputably alive with such amazing gifts of Dickens. Every scene depicted in it is identical to that in real life whether viewed from the perspective of sense of sight , hearing , touch or taste and smell . Moreover , his vivid account of characters created great power to astonish his readers. In generating the story , he used his imagination with marvelous dexterity to create countless coin cide nces withi n the plot .In a sense , his artistic style—creati ng coin cide nces was also characterized by exaggeration , that is , an exaggerated mixture of romanticism and realism. Therefore , the situations he described in the novel were not the facts that happened really in a certain place at a certain time , but the ones that should or were more likely to happen in real life. Moreover , they were processed , or rather , exaggerated bythe artist Dickens. As a result , these situations in the book became romantically realistic. As Dickens himself said , he used romantic realism “largely to express his own moral concepts rather than pursue perfect truth. ”While openly revealing and harshly criticizing hideous features in life , he praised ideal human nature and interpersonal relationships. He thought the masseshad virtues and pure and innocent emotions that had not been affected by capitalistic monetary value , forming a sharp contrast with callousness , selfishness , tyranny and cruelty of aristocrats and the bourgeoisie. As a novelist , his finest quality lied in his ability to look at problems objectively - everything has its good and bad sides. According to him , human nature was of no class. Every class has its good people and bad ones. Monks is a representative of the unprincipled in the underworld while Mr. Brownlow and Mrs. Maylie the benevolent with noble mind of the bourgeoisie. Such plot of the story shows he had lofty ideals of life , which inspire people to fight bravely with the evil forces rather than to surrender to it . Through coincidences he hinged his hopes on the beneficent bourgeoisie that they should help the underworld that were born with virtues and noble mind.Good is rewarded with good , evil with evilDescription of rare incidents reflects Dickens'consistent creative attitudes and aesthetic psychology. Viewed from the perspective of the main theme of the novel , coincidences indicate that Dickens , an optimistic and romantic humanitarian , held the concept that good is rewarded with good , and evil with evil . Yet from his psychology of creation , it was his concept of children that urged him to plot the story in such a way. In the Bible , a childis re2 garded as a symbol of good. Pure and innocent children can be compared to angels in Heaven. According to the Bible, having child - like innocence means keeping good and love. Although Dickens was not a Christian , his humanitarian ideas were harmonious with the concept of children advocated by the Bible. Thus , children became symbols of good and love in his mind , which was also the key point of his humanitarianism. As a result , he created happy encounters by using“the simplest creative method- ”coincidences“ , in which a penniless , hopeless child is offered help from benefactors who free Oliver from sufferings and dangers many times. Towards the end of the novel , as Oliver is being chased by his half brother , villainous Monks , who intends to kill Oliver thereby negating the unknowing Oliver 's claim to his rightful inheritance which would then go to Monks , Oliver happens to encounter Mr. Brownlow again despite a long period of losing touch with each other. This good - hearted gentleman conquers Monks and helps Oliver get his share of in2 heritance - a large sum of money , hoping he will start a new life. From this coincidence , we seem to see Dickens himself is like a lonely and helpless child who is eagerly expecting happy encounter with good - hearted men by whom he will be offered help. Creating happy encounters is determined by his aesthetic psychology , which corresponds to his great expectations :“Good survives through every adverse circumstances , and triumph at last”②,and the light will suppla nt the dark in the end. 雾都孤儿经典作品读书笔记范文English CompositionTitle: Reflections on "Oliver Twist": A Tale of Trials and Triumphs From the opening pages, the reader is drawn into a world that is both captivating and heart-wrenching. The novel begins with the innocent and vulnerable Oliver asking for more gruel in the workhouse, a request that lands him in a web of crime and deceit. This pivotal moment sets the stage for the rest of the narrative, as Oliver is thrust into a life of hardship and struggle. The character of Oliver is one of pure-hearted innocence amidst a sea of corruption. His unwavering hope and desire for a better life are a testament to the strength of character that can emerge from the depths of despair. Despite the cruelty and exploitation he faces, Oliver remains steadfast in his quest for kindness and justice. The novel is a scathing indictment of the social injustices of the time. Dickens masterfully uses the character of Fagin, the leader of a group of child criminals, to highlight the plight of children in the workhouses and the streets. Fagin, while a villain in many respects, also represents a victim of society's neglect, adding complexity to the moral landscape of the novel. The transformation of characters such as the Artful Dodger and even Fagin himself provides a glimpse into the possibility of redemption. Their stories challenge the reader to consider the impact of environment on the human soul and the potential for change, no matter how steeped one may be in vice. The relationship between Oliver and his benefactors, Mr. Brownlow and Rose Maylie, is a poignant reminder of the power of compassion and the importance of family, whether by blood or by choice. Their kindness towards Oliver is a beacon of hope amidst the darkness, illustrating the transformative power of love and care."Oliver Twist" is also a story of resilience. The characters face adversity at every turn, yet they continue to fight for their survivaland dignity. The novel is a testament to the human spirit's ability to persevere through the darkest of times. The vivid descriptions of Victorian London and its inhabitants bring the setting to life, immersing the reader in a world that is both foreign and eerily familiar. Dickens' use of language is evocative and rich, painting a picture of a society rife with contrasts: wealth and poverty, innocence and corruption, hope and despair. In conclusion, "Oliver Twist" is a timeless classic that offers profound insights into the human condition. It is a story of struggle and hope, of darkness and light, and of the indomitable spirit of a young boy who, against all odds, finds his way to a better life. This novel is a reminder that even in the bleakest of circumstances, there is always a glimmer of hope, and that kindness and compassion can triumph over adversity.

Oliver Twist is Charles Dickens‟ first fully crafted novel. It is widely acknowledged that the book‟s main theme is positive and optimistic, which reflects Dickens held radical ideas at that time, and reviews were and are generally favorable. However, Dickens was severely criticized for introducing many coincidences in the plot of the story. For example, the first person that Oliver Twist picks pockets happens to be Mr. Brownlow, a good friend of his father‟s. Later, Oliver is forced by Fagin to accompany Sikes in an attempted robbery of a house, (needing a small boy to enter a window and open the door for the (housebreakers), whose owner, Mrs. Maylie, by chance is his mother‟s elder sister – his aunt. Such incidents which seem to be unbelievable are regarded by many as” uneven and contrary to the real life. ”Seemingly, coincidences become the negative side of the novel. Some even go so far as to think Dickens was not well - thought in plotting the story. As a novelist, Dickens represented English critical realism writing during the 19th century. He washighly praised by Karl Marx as “one of the excellent novelists in Britain.” Such a great novelist did not arrange coincidences in the story without purposes. Therefore, to understand coincidences correctly, we must analyze them systematically from all sides rather than the one - sided approach. Oliver Twist by Dickens is characterized by a few coincidences especially happy encounters, about which some reviews are unfavorable. This essay , sharing quite opposite opinions to the unfavorable ones ,proves coincidences have advantages by means of systematic analysis from the following four points : Dickens‟ radical ideas ,his unique artistic style as well as his firm belief” good is rewarded with good ,and evil with evil . ”Coincidences embody Dickens‟ radical ideasDickens wrote Oliver Twist at the age of 25 , when he was bursting with youthful vigor , imbued with vitality and optimism , which became the main drift and purpose of his literary production to the letter. While ruthlessly exposing the dark corners of life and fiercely attacking the cynical reality , he showed us the good trend in the development of the society rather than depicted it as pitch -dark. So from his novel, readers have a strong sense that life is not utterly hopeless. Dickens chose to convey this message through coincidences in the book.Oliver is born of a dying mother in a parish workhouse and then sent to an infant farm, run by Mrs.Mann, until he is nine years old, at which time he isthen returned to the workhouse again, where he is starved and abused. Where there is oppression, there is rebelling. Young and physically weak as he is , Oliver is mentally powerful and brave enough to advance to the master and”ask for more gruel” on behalf of the group. In the undertaker‟s , he fights for his mother‟s dignity with Noah Clay pole , another of the undertaker‟s boy , who offends his late mother , though he pays great cost for it - a more severely physical punishment . Later he runs away to London alone to seek for new life. Such personalities - bravely facing sufferings of life, meeting challenges brought about by misery fate, and rebelling against the evil forces - are the essential conditions for him to happen to meet Mr. Brownlow and Mrs. Maylie , which serve as Dickens‟ general purpose of arranging coincidences. So the coincidences that Oliver happens to meet his late father‟s good friend Mr. Brownlow and his mother‟s elder sister Mrs. Maylie have the implications of Charles Dickens‟ radical ideas - being optimistic , intense pursuit of the happiness, and his firm belief that” tomorrow will be better. ”Creating coincidences is one of Dickens‟ artistic styles - combination of romanticism and realismCreating coincidences is one of Dickens‟ unique artistic styles.
