成人英语三级学位英语阅读理解练习题(五)Interact use appears to cause a drop in psychological health, according to research at Carnegie Mellon University.Even people who spent just a few hours a week on the Internet experienced more bad feelings and loneliness than those who was online less frequently, the two-year study showed. Researchers are puzzling over the results, which were completely contrary to their expectations. They expected that the Net would prove socially healthier than television, since the Net allows users to choose their information and to communicate with others. The fact that Internet use reduces time available for family and friends may account for the drop in psychological health, researchers hypothesized (推测). Faceless, bodiless“virtual”(虚的) communication may be less psychologically satisfying than actual conversation, and the relationships formed through it may be shallower. Another possibility is that exposure to the wider world through the Net makes users less satisfied with their lives.“But it’ s important to remember this is not about the technology, it’ s about how it is used,”says psychologist Christine Riley of Intel, one of the study’s sponsors (发起人). “It really points to the need for considering social factors in terms of how you design applications and services for technology. “1. To get these necessities on regular basis, a person must have a reliable income. But we have other needs which would probably also be included as basic, such as health and education facilities. We may think of all of these as our needs.Yet most of us would be far from satisfiedif we had nothing more than these which are supplied for us. We all enjoy extra income to spend on things like books, sports or hobbies. Sometimes we save some of this extra income to pay for future expense of this type on holidays. So we must add our wants to our basic needs. Our standard of living is the degree, to which these needs and wants are satisfied. But as time goes on, what we think of as our basic needs changes. Twenty years ago a television would have been a luxury, and still is in manycountries now, Even now we cannot say it is a need in the same sense as food, clothing and shelter.Yet if most of the people of a country have one, it comes to be accepted as a need. 成人英语三级阅读理解考试样题及答案

成人英语三级阅读理解考试样题及答案Directions: After reading the following passage, you will find 5 questions or unfinished statements, numbered 36 through 40. For each question or statement there are 4 choices marked A ), B), C) or D ) . You should make the correct choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.Packaging is a very important form of advertising. A package can sometimes motivate people to buy products. For example, a little child might ask for a breakfast food contained in a box with a picture of a TV character. The child is more interested in the picture than in breakfast food. Pictures for children to color or cut out, games printed on a package, or a small gift inside a box also motivate many children to buy products - or to ask their parents to buy for them. Some packages suggest that a buyer will get something for nothing. Food products sold in reusable containers are examples of this. Although a similar product in plain container might cost less, people often prefer to buy the product in a reusable glass or dish, because they believe the container is free. However, the cost of the containeris added to the cost of the product. The size of a package also motivates a buyer. Maybe the package has“Economy Size”or“Family Size”printed on it. This suggests that the larger size has the most product for the least money. But that is not always true. To find it out, a buyer has to know how the product is sold and the price of the basic unit. The information on the package should provide some answers. But the important thing for any buyer to remember is that a package is often an advertisement. The words and pictures do not tell the whole story. Only the product inside can do that.36.“A buyer will get something for nothing”in paragraph 2 may probably mean ________.A) a buyer will not get what he pays forB)a buyer will get more than what he pays forC) a buyer will get something useful free of chargeD) a buyer will get more but pay less37. From the pasage we know the buyer pays more attention to________.A) the size of a containerB) a container with attractive pictureC) a well-designed containerD) a plain container with low cost38. What suggestion does the writer give in the passage?A) It's not good to buy the product which is sold in a glass or dish.B) The quality of a container has nothing to do with the quality of the product.C) The best choice for a buyer is to buy a product in a plain package.D) A buyer should buy what he needs most rather than a well-designed package.39. Which of the following sentences is NOT true according to the passage?A) In fact glasses or dishes used for packaging do not cost money at all.B)“Family Size”printed on the package means that it is rather economic.C) To a child, even to an adult, the form is far more important than the content.D) Words and pictures written on the package are thought to be an advertisement.40. What do you think is the best title for the passage?A) How to Package a Product.B) How to Make an Advertisement.C) How to Sell Product.D) How to Attract More Buyers.参考译文包装是广告的一个非常重要的部分。

But England is often called by other names. This often confuses people and I wonder if you know what these names mean. So, now I would like to tell you about this matter of names.I believe that you have heard people use the namesEngland, Britain or Great Britain. Lets see what each of these names means. If you look at a map of Europe, youll see a group of islandsone larger island off the northwest coast, one smaller and many tiny ones. These make up what is called the British Isles. The largest island of the British Isles is Britain. It is also called Great Britain. The smaller island is Ireland.Britain is divided into three parts: Scotland, Wales and England. But sometimes the word England is used instead of Britain. Why so?In ancient times, what is Britain now used to be threedifferent countries. People in these different countries spoke different languages. Over many years the three countries became one. England is the largest and richest of the three and it has the most people. So the English people take it for granted that their own name stands for the whole island.Theres another thing that confuses people: sometimes you may hear people say the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. That is the official name of the country. Northern Ireland is only one sixth of the island or Ireland. The rest of the island is an independent state, called the Republic of Ireland. So we have the names of England, Britain, Great Britain, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Now do you know what each of them means?1. English was first spoken in ______.A. BritainB. EnglandC. Great BritainD. Ireland[答案]B关键词语是was first spoken.首先应快速找出该词语在文章中的位置,确定该题的信息在文章的前两句中。

公共英语三级阅读理解试题(5).doc

2019年公共英语三级阅读理解试题(5)Students of United States history, seeking to identify the circumstances that encouraged the emergence of feminist movements, have thoroughly investigated the mid-nineteenth-century American economic and social condition that affected the status of women. These historians, however, have analyzed less fully the development of specifically feminist ideas and activities during the same period. Furthermore, the ideological origins of feminism in the United State have been obscured because, even when historians did take into account those feminist ideas and activities occurring within the United States, they failed to recognize that feminism was then a truly international movement actually centered in Europe. American feminist activists who have been described as solitary and individual theorists were in reality connected to a movement utopian socialism which was already popularizing feminist ideas in Europe during the two decades that culminated in the first womens rights conference held at Seneca Falls, New York, in 1848. Thus, a complete understanding of the origins and development of nineteenth-century feminism in the United States requires that the geographical focus be widened to include Europe and that the detailed study already made of social conditions be expanded to include the ideological development offeminism. The earliest and most popular of the utopian socialists were the Saint-Simonians. The specifically feminist part of Saint-Simonianism has, however, been less studied than the groups contribution to early socialism. This is regrettable on two counts. By 1832 feminism was the central concern of Saint-Simonianism and entirely absorbed its adherents energy; hence, by ignoring its feminism, European historians have misunderstood Saint-Simonianism. Moreover, since many feminist ideas can be traced to saint-simonianism European historians appreciation of later feminism in France and the United States remained limited.Saint-Simons followers, many of whom were women, based their feminism on an interpretation of his project to reorganize the globe by replacing brute force with the rule of spiritual powers. The new world order would be ruled together by a male, to represent reflection, and a female, to represent sentiment. This complementarity reflects the fact that, while the Saint-Simonians did not reject the belief that there were innate differences between men and women, they nevertheless foresaw an equally important social and political role for both sexes in their utopia.Only a few Saint-Simonians opposed a definition of sexual equality based on gender distinction. This minority believe thatindividuals of both sexes were born similar in capacity and character, and they ascribed male-female differences to socialization and education. The envisioned result of both currents of thought, however, was that women would enter public life in the new age and that sexual equality would reward men as well as women with an improved way of life.1. It can be inferred that the author consider those historians who describe early feminists in the United States as solitary to be[A] insufficiently familiar with the international origins of nineteenth-century American feminist thought.[B] overly concerned with the regional diversity of feminist ideas in the period before 1848.[C] not focused narrowly enough in their geographical scope.[D] insufficiently aware of the ideological consequences of the Seneca Falls conference.2. The authors attitude toward European historians who have studied the Saint-Simonians is primarily one of[A] approval of the specific focus of their research.[B] disapproval of their lack of attention to the issue that absorbed most of the Saint-Simonians energy after 1832.[C] approval of their general focus on social conditions.[D] disapproval of their lack of attention to links between theSaint-Simonians and their American counterparts.3. The author mentions all of the following as characteristic of the Saint-Simonians EXCEPT[A] The group included many women among its members.[B] The group believed in a world that would be characterized by sexual equality.[C] The group was among the earliest European socialist groups.[D] Most members believed that women and men were inherently similar in ability and character.4. It can be inferred from the text that the Saint-Simonians envisioned a utopian society having which of the following characteristics?[A] It would be worldwide.[B] It would emphasize dogmatic religious principles.[C] It would most influence the United States.[D] It would have armies composed of women rather than of men.5. According to the text, which of the following would be the most accurate description of the society envisioned by most Saint-Simonians?[A] A society in which women were highly regarded for their extensive education.[B] A society in which the two genders played complementary roles and had equal status.[C] A society in which women did not enter public life.[D] A social order in which a body of men and women would rule together on the basis of their spiritual power.参考答案1. A2. B3. D4. A5. B。

2021 年成人英语三级阅读理解练习试题及答案The way people hold to the belief that a fun filled, pain free lifeequals happiness actually reduces their chances of everattaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equal tohappiness then pain must be equal to unhappiness. But in fact, the opposite is true : more often than not things that lead tohappiness involve some pain.As a result, many people avoid the very attempts that arethe source of true happiness. They fear the paininevitably brought by such things as marriage, raisingchildren, professional achievement, religious commitment,self-improvement.Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage even though hefinds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest hewill tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment. Forcommitment is in fact quite painful. The single life is filled withfun, adventure, excitement. Marriage has such moments, butthey are not its most distinguishing features.Couples with infant children are lucky to get a wholenight's sleep or a three day vacation. I don't know anyparent who would choose the fun to describe raising children. But couples who decide not to have children never know thejoys of watching a child grow up or of playing with agrandchild.Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothingto do with fun is one of the most liberating realizations. Itliberates time : now we can devote more hours to activitiesthat can genuinely increase our happiness. It liberates money:buying that new car or those fancy clothes that will donothing to increase our happiness now seems pointless. And it liberates us from envy : we now understand that all those who are always having so much fun actually may not be happy at all.According to the author, a bachelor resists marriagechiefly because ______.A. he is reluctant to take on family responsibilitiesB. he believes that life will be more cheerful if he remainssingleC. he finds more fun in dating than in marriageD. he fears it will put an end to all his fun adventure and excitement[ 答案]A【精析】依照文中第三段第二句 If he is honest he will tell youthat he is afraid of making a commitment. Already today, less than forty years later, as puters are relieving us of more and more of the routine tasks in business and in our personal lives, we are facing with a less dramatic but also less foreseen problem. People tend to be over-trusting (过分信任) of puters and are re- luctant to challenge their authority. Indeed, they behave as if they were hardly aware that wrong buttons may be pushed, or that a puter may simply malfunction(失灵).Obviously, there would be no point in investing(投入) in a puter if you had to check all its answers, but people should also rely on their own internal puters and check the machine when they have the feeling that something has gone wrong. Questioning and routine double checks must continue to be as much a part of good business as they were in pre-puter days. The impact of puters on our society was probably best seen when in 1982 Time magazine picked the puter as its “Man of the Year”, actually listing it as “Machine of the Year”. It is hard to imagine a picture of the Spirit of St. Louis or an Apollo Lander on the magazine cover under a banner “Machine of the Year”.电脑对社会的影响可能是最好的当1982时代杂志把计算机作为它的“年度人物”,实际上它是“上市机器的一年”。

很难想象在杂志封面图片的圣路易斯或阿波罗着陆的精神旗帜”机器的一年”。

This perhaps shows how important the puter has bee in our society.这可能说明如何重要的计算机已经成为我们的社会。

The puter has bee helpful in managing knowledge at a time when the amount of information is expanding rapidly. The information stored in the world's libraries and puters doubles every eight years. In a sense, the puter age and the information age seem to go hand in hand.计算机有利于知识管理在信息量迅速增长的。

In the wake of globalization, culture has gone beyond border and is flying all over the world, with a great impact on Chinese youths.By getting in touch with western culture, we are forced to think over things that we took for granted previously. Weve gradually shrugged off some old notions that may hinder our development, such as uniformity is always good, or authority is always in the right. I think this is the greatest benefit we can get from this impact. We tend to be critical with what should be in our forefathers eyes. Only by this critical mind can we initiate some changes; only through change can our nation develop. However, the cultural impact of globalization does not necessarily result in a deep insight into our own society amongyouths. 2018年成人英语三级考试阅读理解专题练习(5)
The place of the child in society has varied for thousands of years and has been affected by different cultures and religions. In ancient times unwanted children were occasionally abandoned, put to death, exploited, or offered for religious sacrifices, and in any event a large percentage of them didn’t survive their physically hazardous existence to achieve maturity.
In Western civilization within the last few hundred years, there have been many changes in attitude toward the young. In agricultural Europe, and late with the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the children of the poor worked long hours for little or no pay, and there was no public concern for their safety or welfare. Punishment could be cruel and severe, and sometimes religious passions were expressed violently with a view toward saving the child’s soul.
By the eighteenth century the harsh, deterministic, doctrinal(教条的)methods began to show some change. Society slowly accorded children a role of importance. Books were written expressly for them and gradually laws were passed for their protection.
In the past few decades parents have become more attentive to the needs of their children. Better health care is available and education is no longer reserved for a limited few. With so many now able to go to college, many educators feel that we have too many
students and too few competent scholars. Some say the pendulum(钟摆)in child rearing has swung so far toward permissiveness that many children are growing up alienated(离间)from society and with no respect for law or parental authority.
The tendency today is for teachers and parents to emphasize individual responsibility and to stress that educational goals for students should be tailored to their chosen vocations rather than provide a generalized higher education.
