Pride and prejudice book review Pride and prejudice is a very meaningful book.Read Austen's “Pride and Prejudice”, let me know the original is not only in the distant Europe as Romeo and Juliet's tragic love, like Shakespeare as classical Gothic beauty, there are also original home marketplace, return to life in the United States. It is talk about a romantic and reality love. And love without romance is losing its light, but in this book are about rigidity and wealth. It is no doubt that happiness is everyone want to possess, and the heroine Elizabeth make it in such a worldly era.Depiction of the characters in the novel are exact and true. The novel revolves around Mrs.Benet how to marry off his daughter's five themes. The book wrote a total of four teams of young men and women combined, the authors compare them one by one, criticism, love and hate are expounded his concept of love and marriage.Darcy and Elizabeth rich arrogant rebellious wisdom, tenderness, Jane and powerful Bentley and Lydia and Wickham, Charlotte and Collins. So in this context to expand the whole story of architecture.Ms Benet heard there was a very wealthy duke moved to neighbor and just thought one of his daughters will marry him.It is just like the beginning of novel “it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. And he is considered as the rightful property of someone or other of their daughters”.Darcy has always been around disdain superficial relationships, until he met Elizabeth which really changed his ways, of course, he was not only concerned about the status of people with money, but his own personality dictates, if he doesnot encounter he really liked people, his personality has probably continue to do so, so he would not be very painful? all of people think he is arrogant and overconfident as well as Elizabeth. However, Austin author is a woman with a critical spirit, so she created a pursuit of pure love, somewhat despised elite Elizabeth. In that moment, Elizabeth has a prejudice against any action he has done which lead to many of misunderstand in the later life. When Elizabeth met Darcy outset, it would be for him the kind of pride, fussy, arrogant attitude of dissatisfaction.Darcy found he was fall in love with Elizabeth uncontrollable.Eventually he expressed his attached to her, but a self-evident contradiction between them and Elizabeth said no with prejudice. But for Darcy, he can’t out of depressions, he write a letter to his lover which could explain all of his arrogant and disdainful behaviors when he was left. This is a huge attack to Elizabeth, she felt sorry and regret but Darcy has left and life need to advance……Are we too care about the first impression, and its positioning as the kind of person he is.This is a common problem with most people, we need to learn the facts before making a decision to understand the whole truth. The next summer, with the uncle Elizabeth came to Darcy Manor, and from butler learned that Darcy was respected at the local but also he was very care of his sister. When Elizabeth meet Darcy in the woods by accident and found his attitude greatly improved, she gradually eliminate prejudice against him.And when Darcy knew that Elizabeth's sister Lydia left with Viking he is not only for Viking to pay off gambling debts, and gave her a huge sum of money, so that he and Lydia married.Since then, Elizabeth 's prejudices to Darcy turn into sincere love. The end, one pair with arrogance and prejudice finally get married. In fact, under the guise of appearance whoknows the real one.Life is life, not like the novel is so wonderful, but it has special beauty scene if you see the world with heart.Austin's time has gone, but the common people seeking a better life demands of marriage has not changed.“Pride and Prejudice” in the interpretation of the concept of marriage also did not completely out of our time, still gives us inspiration.By her description, we recognize that, at the time of the social environment, feeling helpless had to be subordinated to the money. But modern society is it not so? People talk of marriage it not be a time and money and love to weigh it? People in modern society, is to indulge in the passion, the pursuit of momentary happiness it;or the status quo, to live a simple life;or bold pursuit of love, to build a happy family and struggle. No matter what kind of choice to make, they will have their own reasons.

Prideandprejudice

Book report of Pride and prejudicePride and prejudice is a famous novel throughout the world. The author of Pride and Prejudice is a British novelist, Jane Austin. Austin was born in a mid-class family. Her father was a local vicar. Although her family was not very rich, her father attached great importance to her education. Influenced by her father, Jane read many literary works when she was young. Jane was unmarried all her life and her novels did not earned her great fames when she was alive. After her death in 1817, Jane’s novel became popular across the world.Jane Austin was known for her excellent writing skills of narrating the country love stories since she lived in a small country town all her life. Her other novels Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Emma were all about the marriage and love between gentleman and ladies in countryside. Austin authentically and intimately describes the quiet, day-to-day country life of the upper-middle-class English. The novel is named Pride and Prejudice because the principal male character Mr. Darcy was pride at first and the principal female character Elizabeth had prejudice against Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth first met Mr. Darcy at an assembly. Soon Mr. Darcy fell in love with Elizabeth but Elizabeth disliked Mr. Darcy because of his haughtiness. When Elizabeth met Mr.Wickham who was Darcy’s childhood playmate, she was told that Mr. Darcy treated Wickham badly. Later Elizabeth discovered that Darcy urged his friend Mr. Bingley to leave her sister Jane. Elizabeth prejudiced against Darcy deeper and deeper. As a result when Mr. Darcy proposed to Elizabeth, she refused directly. Mr. Darcy wrote a letter to Elizabeth in order to explain his relationship with Wickham. From then on, both of them have changed their attitudes and the misunderstandings gradually eliminated. When Mr. Darcy saved her little sister Lydia and her family’s reputation, Elizabeth lost her heart to Mr. Darcy. Darcy’s aunt Lady Catherine is a domineering woman who tried to make her daughter marry Darcy. One day Lady Catherine went to Elizabeth’s house and asked her to break up with Darcy. To Lady Catherine’s surprised, Elizabeth refused to obey. Angry and displeased, Lady Catherine told Mr. Darcy what Elizabeth said. Few days later, Mr. Darcy proposed to Elizabeth again and this time Elizabeth accepted his proposal immediately. They married soon and lived together happily.I read Chinese version of Pride and Prejudice when I was in middle school. At that time I thought the story was all about Elizabeth and Darcy’s love story. But when I read it again in college I find the book tells us more than love story, but the marriage and family. In my opinions, there are little similarities between courtship and marriage. Noteveryone can marry someone who they love deeply. One can easily fall in love with a handsome person but they have little chance to get married if they have completely different social statues and education background. Elizabeth is a lucky woman since she fell in love with Mr. Darcy who is intelligent and wealthy. Mr. Darcy can be a sweet lover as well as a responsible husband. Bur if Elizabeth is not pretty enough and smart, it is rather difficult for her to find an ideal husband. I don’t like Elizabeth’s criticizes on Charlotte. I personally like Charlotte best because she treated Elizabeth as her best friend from beginning to end. She never envy toward Elizabeth. When Elizabeth married with Mr. Darcy, Charlotte gave her best wishes sincerely. Some people think Charlotte’s marrying with Mr. Collins is a thoughtless decision but I can understand Charlotte’s decision. In a society where women are not allowed to work, it’s acceptable to treat ensuring fundamental material needs as the primary object of marrying a man. Charlotte was already 27 years old. If she insists on seeking for a man she loves, she may be an old maid till her dying.Comparing to the main character Elizabeth, I’m more interesting in her sister Jane, a very gentle and kind girl in this book. She never see a fault in any body. I have never met such a wonderful girl in my life. I can’t understand that Jane be so kind that she never doubt people around her.She ignored Mrs. Bingley’s unkind behavior and made up excuse for Mr. Wickham when she heard of Mr. Wickham’s shameful past.I don’t particularly like the main characters in Pride and Prejudice as well as the author’s idea on marriage but I do appreciate her satire. Apparently Jane Austin is good at portraying comic figures within a few details and language. For example, Mr. Collins is one of the comic figures. It’s quite suffering for me to read Mr. Collins’ letters; he used lots of big words, wrote long complicated sentences. He was self-conceit and vain. Mrs. Bennet is a woman of little information and uncertain temper. She is eager to marry off her five daughters. To sum up, Pride and Prejudice is a book worth reading. It expressed several different ideas of marriage through the story of Elizabeth and Darcy, the story of Jane and Bingley, the story of Lydia and Wickham and so on. Since the novel was written more than 200 years ago so some ideas in it may be hard to understand now. But there is still something that we can learn from the novel.。

11200119Book report of Pride and PrejudiceBefore writing this essay, I remembered that the first time I had read this novel was two years ago. I read it again in the summer holiday and then I was totally lost in this amazing romantic novel, not because the two main characters—Darcy and Elizabeth. As we all known, Pride and Prejudice is one of Jane Austen’s representative works which is a well-known fiction written in superb techniques. It forms a connecting link between the preceding and following in the British fiction history. Jane Austen described the daily life of rural middleclass and the rural scenery in this book, and narrated a circuitous moving love story on that background. The pride and prejudice caused by the different values on money, marriage and love are the highlights in the whole story. This novel contains almost no description, instead of telling how everything looks, it tells the story so well that you envision the scene for yourself. The main attractive characters in Price and Prejudice are Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. The other characters are also very colorful. Mrs Bennet is enthusiastic about making all of her daughters marry therich. In contrast, Mr Bennet is an old gentleman who are indifferent to fame and wealth. The eldest daughter Jane is beautiful, gentle and quiet. The second daughter Elizabeth is generous, intelligent and beautiful. The third daughter Mary is not so beautiful as his sisters but is diligent in study, and this lead to his arrogant attitude. The forth daughter Kitty is fond of dancing and always discourtesy. The youngest daughter Lydia is foolish and enjoys making fun with military officers.Mr Darcy is a very rich but serious man who is poor at his words before strangers. He always gives people the impression of arrogance and pride, however, he is warmhearted inward. Elizabeth is a lovely, charming and energetic girl, her beauty and individuality attracted Darcy very much at the first sight they met while Darcy’s good friend Charles Bingley fell in love with Jane in the dancing party. After they met several times, Darcy lost his heart to Elizabeth unconsciously. However, because of Bennet family’s indecent status, Darcy suffered from his mental struggle. Besides, Elizabeth have strong prejudice against Darcy because of his arrogant attitude at the beginning, later she was cheated by Wickham and her prejudice against Darcy became stronger. All of these resulted in her rejection to Darcy’s unexpected proposal. After that, the novel described how Elizabeth’s prejudice was removed and Darcy’s arrogant attitude waschanged. Elizabeth was very regretful for her prejudice against Darcy after reading the letter from Darcy which explained the reason why he separated Jane and Bingley, and exposed Wickham’s lie. To here, the intermezzo of Darcy’s proposal came to an end.The second summer, Elizabeth followed her uncle and aunt to Darcy’s manor, they met unexpectedly. Both of them were shocked and the affection between them burnt like the fire was lit. Elizabeth found herself falling in love with him out of control. However ,at the same time, Elizabeth received a letter from Jane. It’s said that Lydia was eloped with Wickham. Elizabeth was very embarrassed to show such a disgrace in front of Darcy, thinking that Darcy would despise her family. But to her surprise, Darcy not only helped Wickham to pay for the debt, but also gave him a large sum of money in order to make him get married with Lydia. It was such a great help for her family and Elizabeth was totally moved and grateful to Darcy, so she finally accept Darcy’s affection and took his hands. In the meantime, Jane got engaged to Mr Bingley after the misunderstanding was cleared. After finishing reading this book, I must confess that I could not help to falling in love with Mr Darcy because of his lovely stubbornness, meekness and faith. Actually, I also watched some movies adapted from the novel a few months ago and my love to Darcy became stronger. Themain reason why I love Darcy is because people like him are really very few, and many people today who are the generations of the rich are arrogant, proud, and ignorant. And more and more young ladies marry for money, status or even power. It is normal to see some comments on the internet said that they would not believe true love. In my opinion, after falling in love with Elizabeth, Darcy is no longer a common person but a perfect lover. However, everyone has the chance to make their own choice and make themselves feel better.Furthermore, I realized that we can not have prejudice against people blindly. Remember that we should realize the mistake we make and correct it bravely and immediately. Finally, by the analysis of two comparatively good marriage in the novel, personal value also becomes a major concern in good marriage. It is wrong to get married for power, position and money.Reference•Pride and Prejudice(Chinese-English bilingual edition) Jane Austen,Foreign language teaching and research press Beijing .2007.2。

Book report of Pride and Prejudice

Book report of Pride and Prejudice外国语学院2010级英语5班 (20104169)Pride and Prejudice has been valued as most successful and popular masterpiece among all the novels written by Jane Austen. The novel describing several different marriages among young women of the middle class, which reveals that love is the foundation for a happy marriage, and also should be based on a large amount of money. Pride and Prejudice also reflected Jane Austen’s marriage view: It is wrong to marry for the property, money and position. She emphasizes the importance of the ideal marriage, and regards men and women's emotion as the foundation stone which concludes the ideal marriage. The story of Pride and Prejudice took place in the time of the Regency in Britain. At that time, Britain was at the period of transition from the earlier stage of Capitalism to Capitalist Industrialization. In the countryside, the aristocratic family still held great power and right that country squires were likely to fawn upon them. However, as the development of Capitalism and the expand of the rank of rich people, the distinction between social strata was becoming smaller and smaller, while money was getting more and more important in people’s mind about social value. The author, Jane Austen, was a British novelist who was born in a small country town. Austen didn't go to regular schools, but she read many literary works at her parents' guidance. She started writing about the age of 20, and published six novels. Jane was unmarried all her life. She described a truthful picture of her world, especially the marriage and love between gentleman and ladies by her meticulous feminine observation. It mainly describes the development of the relationship between Elizabeth Bennet, an intelligent young woman and the daughter of a country gentleman, and Fitzwilliam Darcy, a rich and haughty aristocratic landowner. The story follows the main character Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of early 19th-century England. The writer Jane Austen disclosed mid-class young ladies’ different ideas ofmarriage and love through describing the different ways in which the Bennet girls doing with their marriage problems, and this undoubt edly shows the writer’s idea about love and marriage: it’s wrong to get married just for property, wealth and status while neither would it be without caring about those elements. Jane Austen just attached great significance to marriage through her novel b y telling people that marriage should be regarded carefully cause it is not a game you could just enjoy without prudent consideration. She also wanted to deliver information that marriage should be based on real love between the lovers. Besides, marriage does not mean the act of uncontrolled passion but a complex engagement between the marrying couple and society.Elizabeth was a clever and smart girl, although she was not the most beautiful one. She was also an independent girl and always had an individual opinion, because Elizabeth was an educated girl, although she learned by herself. So education is very important to women. I think Elizabeth has personality ethic which caused her independent idea about love and marriage and in consequence she earned a happy life.Darcy was handsome man and he seemed very noble. He was very wealthy, but he was very proud and rude in other people’s eyes. Because of the education he had in his childhood, he first ignored Elizabeth’s merits because of the social position she was in and the relatives she had. But later, he realized Elizabeth’s smart and beauty and proposed to her.Elizabeth and Darcy’s marriage is a perfect one. The female subject Elizabeth is a mid-class girl, and Darcy proposed to her regardless of the gap between them, but Elizabeth refused because of his pride had formed Eli’s prejudice. Cause Darcy’s pride was a suggest of status gap between he and Eli, he wouldn’t have the same thought with Eli and consequently the ideal marriage. But later Darcy’s doings especially his change of the prideful manner eliminated Eli’s misunderstandings and prejudice about him, and Elizabeth accepted his proposal. At the beginning of Pride and Prejudice, a sentence reads “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” It not only reflects Austen’s opinion towards marriage that money is very important, but also reflects the reality of the British society at that time: moneywas at the first place, men played an important role in the society, but women had no position in the society. In Austen’s opinion, a marriage that both had money and love is a perfect one. Elizabeth and Darcy’s marriage just coincided with Austen’s basic requirements. It was Elizabeth’s optional marriage based on her personal value that made her get the final happiness and curbed Darcy’s arrogant as well. They thus established an equal relation based on mutual understanding and respect. So their marriage was the most harmonious one in the novel.Jane was the oldest in Bennet’s family. She was the most beautiful one among her sisters. But she was shy and lack of self confidence. So she was afraid to speak out that she loved. Bingley was also very wealthy, but he was more approachable than Darcy. Similar to Jane, he was lack of courage and had no definite views of his own on his marriage. They were met on a ball. Jane was attracted by Bingley’s handsome appearance, and Bingley also indulged in Jane’s beauty. So they fell in love with each other at the first sight. Although Jane loved Bingley very much, as a lady, she never showed her love. And she was within an inch of losing such a good man. Bingley was also not a strong-minded person. Influenced by his friend Darcy and family, he left Jane. But fortunately, this couple got married at last. In my opinion, their marriage was just based on the attraction between each other. Actually, they were lack of confidence and understanding with each other. Although this marriage appeared a happiness one, some crisis was hidden. The style of her works is humorous and rich in comic conflicts, so many readers love them. From the late eighteenth to the nineteenth century, vulgar and boring sentimental novels and gothic novels were full in British literary. Bu t Jane’s novel iconoclastic showed mid-class of daily life and pastoral scenery in British countryside at that time which had not been capitalist industrial revolution impacted,. Although the breadth and depth of the reflection was limited, it played good effect to change the vulgar atmosphere in novels.Pride and prejudice are our common weakness and shortcomings. Every person actually is easy to be driven by his own subjective impression. So it can comment easily to other people under incorrectness, then it will cause misunderstandings between each other. A person’s first impression can affect many things. Not he mustchange, but you should more deeply know about him, then you will have more objective opinion, just like the heroine's opinion of Darcy in the novel changed because of knowing. Or if the people in the world no longer have pride and prejudice these two bad behavior customs, this world will more harmonious and friendly.。

Book Report about Pride and Prejudice

Book Report about Pride and Prejudice

Book Report about Pride and PrejudiceRecently, I read a book titled Pride and Prejudice, which impresses me a lot. Therefore, I write a book report about it so that I can share what I feel and what I learn with others.Pride and Prejudice displayed a love story about Elizabeth Bennet, one of a squire’s five daughters. Bennet family has five daughters. Jane, a shy girl, is the eldest and most beautiful, most elegant of them. Lizzie, also named Elizabeth, is the second daughter, who holds a belief that she can find her true love ignoring the wealth and the social class. One day, a new neighborhood, a rich man named Bingley, attracts the interest of Mrs. Bennet. So Mrs. Bennet invited Bingley, Bingley’s sister and his friend, Darcy who is a much richer man. The ball is coming. When they arrived in the ball, Bingley was attracted by Jane, so did Jane. However, Darcy looked down upon Elizabeth and her family, which was regarded as arrogant. Due to Lizzie’s pride, she decided to ignore Darcy. Later, Darcy found Elizabeth cute, vivacious and charming. Therefore, in the other ball, he asked Elizabeth whether she would like to dance with her, and she agreed. After dancing, Darcy fell in love with Elizabeth.Caroline was jealous to Elizabeth because Darcy treated her differently. What’s more, Caroline and Darcy persuaded Bingley not to marry with Jane, because they thought that Jane didn’t love him. Then Bingley, his sister and Darcy went back to London without leaving a piece of word. Janewas so sad because she loved Bingley so much. Also, even though Darcy appreciates Elizabeth, he couldn’t bear the rudeness and impoliteness of Elizabeth’s mother and her younger sisters. He left with Bingley together. Later, there was a big thing happening in the Bennet. Due to net having a son, Bennet’s legacy will be signed away by Collins, who is a conservative, obsequious minister. At first, he fell in love with Elizabeth, and he proposed to Elizabeth. But Elizabeth refused him. Later, Collins married with Elizabeth’s friend—Charlotte. Then, a handsome military officer, Wickham, attracted Elizabeth. He lied to Elizabeth that Darcy misappropriated his money, which made Elizabeth detest Darcy more. After marrying with Collins for a while, Charlotte invited Elizabeth to their home. Also, Elizabeth met Darcy at Catherine who is Darcy’s aunt when she was inviting to her estate.Darcy couldn’t control himself, so he proposed to Elizabeth. However, Elizabeth refused his propose, reasoning that he damaged the relationship between Jane and Bingley as well as Elizabeth could n’t bear his arrogance. When Darcy realized his misbehavior made Elizabeth misunderstand him, he gave a letter to Elizabeth telling her what happened to explain, and then he left. Next summer, Elizabeth met Darcy in his estate with her uncle and aunt. Elizabeth found that Darcy changed a lot; he was polite, modest to Elizabeth’s uncle and aunt. Therefore, she changed her attitude to him. Just at that time, Elizabeth got a letter from home telling that Lydia ran away with Wickham, which made her embarrassed and sad. But Darcy helped them solve the problem. Furthermore, Elizabeth transformed the prejudice into love. Moreover, Jane and Bingley were ready to have a wedding after experiencing a lot of barrier. However, Mrs. Catherine came to find Elizabeth angrily and asked her to assure that she wouldn’t marry with Darcy. Elizabeth refused to promise to her due to the fact that she fell in love with Darcy deeply. The next morning, after hearing the argument between Elizabeth and his aunt, he came to find Elizabeth and proposed to her again. Eventually, Elizabeth agreed Darcy’s propose. And they lived a happy life in the end. After reading the book, I was impressed by the heroine Elizabeth in the book. She has a clear understanding about marriage. Also, she has a special thought about marriage, just marrying with someone who she really loves instead of marrying with someone for loving his money or social status. From her thinking, Ifeel that she is a girl who is keen of free, different to otherpeople at that time so that she has special charm. What’s more, I realize that even though someone is rich and high-social-status, he should be modest and polite to everyone. Because being modest and polite shows individual mastery as well as noble spirit. If they look down upon others, they would n’t be respected by others due to their rudeness. What’ worse, they may miss their love just as Darcy and Elizabeth. Therefore, people should be polite and modest to whoever they meet with. Also, after reading the book, I come to understand that people shouldn’t judge a man just meeting once. It may cause some mistake. Just as the old saying goes, don’t evaluate a person on the basis of appearance. Because people would change, also, people may hide some character when they meet the strangers. But if they have a better understanding between each other, they will find something charm and attractive from each other. And then they will become friends, partners, may be lovers. There is no denying that people may be distinguished by wealth or social status. But as a modern person, we should hold an equal attitude towards each other. We should be friendly to everyone, no matter who they are. After reading the Pride and Prejudice, what impresses me most is that Darcy helped Bennet’s family to find Lydia and Wickham. Darcy gave money to them so that they can have a wedding in London. What’s more, Darcy gave money to Wickham, which let him have a good position in the army. Even though Wickham had spoken ill of Darcy, Darcy still helped him. From this case, I know that Darcy really is a kind-hearted man. For his good personality and change, he let Elizabeth fall in love with him. From this book, I have learned a lot, such as the real meaning of love, the importance of being modest and polite and so on. Thus I recommend this book to everyone.。

1Pride and Prejudice was written by Jane Austen. The author was born in 1775 in Hampshireand passed away in 1817 at the age of fourty-three. It was first published in1813 and has been one of the greatest novels ever since then.It has been translated into numbers of languages and several movies have been made based on the original novel. It tells of a love stor between Elizabeth and Darcy as well as Elizabeth’s sister. It consists of 42 chapters in all. Mr. Darcy is the hero who is rich and proud. Elizabeth is the second daughter while Jane is the first daughterEverything starts with Bingley’s arrival. When Mrs.Bennet hear Bingley has bought a house near her home .The mother of four daughters is so happy and conceived that one of her daughters will beome his wife. Fortunately, Bingley and Jane met at an evening dancing party and they soon fell in love with each other. However,Darcy, Bingley’s best friend , was also attracted byElizabeth’fascination but Darcy rudeness and pride toward Elizabethe greatly annoyed her and her impression for Darcy was even worsened by Wickham, a military officer she met who claimed to have grown up with Darcy. What was worse Bingley’s two sisters deliberately separated Bingley and Jane. And Elizabether turned dowm the marriage proposal fromher cousin, Collins, who will inherit all the properties when her father died. When Darcy sent Elizabeth a letter to tell the truth and reveal the wicked Wickham rumours about him.Elizabeth changed her thoughts and finally found herself deeply in love with him. When she visited her uncle and aunt in northern England, she encountered Darcy found him to be almost perfect, gentle and no longer proud any more,They eventually married and also brought Bingley and Jane altogher.Just like Darcy propose marriage to Elizabeth in spite of her scarcity of property and social status, but is rejected by Elizabeth for his pride and weaknesses. As long as either side’s pride existed , no love can be seeked. And eiter side should try to find t he other’s virtues and variations towards a good will.In the novel ,when Elizabeth found Darcy is no longer proud she finally engaged with him and lived a happy marriage. 2Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own personalities. Mrs. Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. Mr. Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different. Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. Mary likes reading classic books. (Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl who followsexotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century. The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can find these from the very beginning of this book. The first sentence in this book is impressive. It reads: “It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”. The undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession.People always think that Austen was an expert at telling love stories. In fact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.I couldn’t forget how eager Mrs. Bennet wants to marry off her daughters. If you want to know why she is so crazy about these things, I must mention the situation in Britain at that time. Only the eldest son had the privilege of inheriting his father’s possessions. Younger sons and daughters who are used to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in possession of a large fortune to continue their comfortable lives. Thus, we can see that getting married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many possessions. Jane Austen told us that money and possession determined everything, including marriage and love in her century. In “Pride and Prejudice”, the sister of Mr. Bingley strongly opposed his plan of marrying Jane because the Bennets don’t have many possessions and their social positions are much lower than them. From this, we can see there are a lot of obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. The society, the relatives would not allow them to get married. In modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in some people’s mind.A lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages. Education background, possessions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one’s marriage. Marry for money is still a big problem in our society. We can’t help thinking: can money determine everything?Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote “Pride and Prejudice”, her sharp observat ion of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride and Prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time. 3then man treat GRat event in ones life with punishing, Demonstrate different attitudes to the love question of the marriage of young girl of the family origin of middle class of villages and towns, Thus reflected authors oneselfs marriage view:It is wrong to get married for the property, money and position; Get married and does not consider that above-mentioned factors are unwise too . So, she objects to getting married for money , objecting to regarding the marriage as a trifling matter . She emphasizes the importance of the ideal marriage , and regard men and womens emotion as the foundation stone which concludes the ideal marriage .the woman protagonist in the book lizabeth comes from the little landlords family, reaches the west to have deep love for for the rich and powerful people sons and younger brothers. Reach the disparity of ignoring family status and wealth of the west, propose to her, but is refused. lizabeths misunderstanding and prejudice to him are a reason, but a main one is the arrogance that she dislikes him. Reach the thes of the west in fact status the reflections of difference, exist this kind arrogant, Not having common thoughts and feelings between he and lizabeth, the marriage that can not have lofty ideals . lizabeth watches conducting oneself in society and a series of behavior of reaching the west personally afterwards, See he change the proud conceited expressions of passing by, dispel misunderstanding and prejudice to him, Thus concluded the happy marriage with him.。

A Book Report of Pride and Prejudice姓名:学号:成绩:An introduction to the authorThe book is written by Jane Austen (1775-1817), an English novelist whoserealism, biting social commentary and masterful use of free indirect speech, burlesqueand irony have earned her a place as one of the most widely-read and best-lovedwriters in British literature. Jane Austen was born in a small town Stiven. She was theyoungest of seven children in her family. And her father is local church parish pastor.Though Jane had never attended t o a formal school, she was educated well by herfather and older brothers as well as her own reading. When she was about 20 yearsold, she began to write novels and published 6 novels in total. However, it’s a she died at the age of 41 and unmarried all her life.Plot summaryPride and Prejudice mainly describes a special love story of an arrogant manand a woman who prejudices the man. Of course, they clear up their misunderstanding and get married finally. Two leading roles of the novel are Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy.Elizabeth is a lovely and clever woman who grows up in the village. The mostimportant thing is that she pursues free love. She hates her mother’s idea of treati marriage as a tool to attain interest and vanity. That may be why she asks if Janereally love Charles when their mother wants Jane to marry Charles and why sherefuse the courtships from Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy. Fitzwilliam is an arrogant manfirst. He treats anyone with whom he isn’t familiar chillily. However, Elizabethchanges him, and he becomes a real gentleman eventually. My commentsThe beginning of the novel says,“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that asingle man in possession of good fortune must be in want of a life.” This sentencestate the background of the novel. Though the Industrial Revolution made Britishmodernize rapidly, it’s conservative in village. Female’s social position bentcomparatively at that time. Thus women tried to get a better and richer life bymarrying men with a lot of property. The first scene of the novel is that Mrs. Bennettell Mr. Bennet about the new owner of Netherfield: Charles Bingley, “a single you man of large fortune from the north of England”. The only mind in her heart is to letone of her daughters marry him and then the others can marry gentlemen like him. From this scene, I just find Mrs. Bennet is so philistine and feudalistic. Maybe she isthe epitome of women in that era which women just live relying on men like vineslive relying on trees. However, Elizabeth is different. She doesn’t agree with her mother. In myopinion, what Elizabeth thinks may be on behalf of the author. Women should havetheir own work, should have their own love, should have their own choice and havetheir own life. In the era that the consciousness of women doesn’t wake, this thoug was deviating from the norm. Nevertheless, it just was popular among the youth, thenthe masses. That proves the importance of the background. In that social context (theIndustrial Revolution), women’s consciousness w ill wake up sooner or later. Thus,Jane’s opinion can be accepted soon.Though most people like Elizabeth best, in my heart, Fitzwilliam is the mostattractive. Not because I am a girl. Fitzwilliam’s character is the main reason. Maybe he is arrogant at first. But that’s not because he look down upon others. It’s can’t get along well with strangers and his parents only teach him pride. Finally, hechanges himself and is gentle to everyone. Love changes h im. As we all know, ifsomeone can be changed by love, he must love deeply. Mr. Darcy is just the man withdeeply and undivided love. Besides, he is a direct person. He just expresses hisimpression directly. Love is love, and hate is hate. This kind of man is more reliable. The other leading role, Elizabeth, is popular among women because of herthought of free love. To have her own real lover, she even refuses the courtships fromMr. Collins and Mr. Darcy (the first time) who are recognized as best husband inothers’ eyes. The main line in the novel is her attitude to Fitzwilliam: from prejudiceto respect then to love. She proves a truth by her experience: A woman who has herown dependent and free mind can have real freedom as well as true love. Comparedwith her other sisters who are tied with the era and don’t have their own opinions, sh is just the happiest one.As a matter of fact, Jane wrote this novel is not only to publicize the freedom ofwomen, but also satirize silliness, selfishness, snobbery and other shortcomings ofpeople. These feudal people and background make the love between Fitzwilliam andElizabeth difficult to achieve. Fortunately, they beat the feudalism and get married.Nevertheless, another couple in another novel is not so lucky: Catherine Earnshawand Heathcliff in the novel Wuthering Heights. Even though they fall in love witheach other, they can’t company with each other forever. They lose to the feudalism. As a modern person, maybe I can’t identified them totally, but I am still movedby their love, feel nervous when they seem to be broken up, feel angry when theymisunderstand and argue with each other. Also I become hot-blooded when theleading roles pursue their love and fight with the feudalism. It’s classical, and I w remember the moving love forever.。

AReflectiononPrideandPrejudice(傲慢与偏见读后感)

AReflectiononPrideandPrejudice(傲慢与偏见读后感)第一篇:A Reflection on Pride and Prejudice(傲慢与偏见读后感)A Reflection on Pride and Prejudice“It is a truth universally, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife”.When talking about the Pride and Prejudice, a famous book written by Jane Austin, this sentence comes up to my mind immediately. When I first read this sentence in my high school I burst into laughter. These words exactly express why so many girls try their best to tempt the affluent men.People always suggest themselves that it is necessary for a rich man to have a wife and then they will have the excuse to do something to approach to them. This sounds as if the rich men don’t have to search for their true love, their true love will try to find them. However, Pride and Prejudice shows another story which is absolutely different. The interesting conversations between Darcy and Elizabeth seem attractive to readers.I like the characteristic of Elizabeth because she is so different from others. She doesn’t treat Darcy as other people do.This book may be considered as a love story, however, it reflects the problems between upper class and the populace.A rich man as Darcy is born with pride. He disdains to speak to populace like Elizabeth at first.Wise as Elizabeth, she refuses to flatter such a proud man as Darcy. As a result, their story does not well so smoothly.Love is pure and simple, while marriage is much more complicated. After Darcy expressed his feeling to Elizabeth, she rejected him at the very first time. She doesn’t expect that Darcy have a crash on a girl like her, furthermore, they don’t match with each other for they totally have different social status.Elizabeth feels sorry for her misunderstanding on Darcyand thinks they are not match with each other.Jane Austen experienced something similar when she was young. She was born in Hampshire, southern England. Her father was a pastor. She never got married and lived with her family all her lifetime. She had fallen in love with a man who was from a Duke family. After a short happy time, they separated because the man’s father wanted him to marry with another woman whose family was very rich and beneficial to the man’s future.Jane Austen didn’t think she can share love with others and finally broke up with the man.She devoted herself into writing and enriched her life with excellent works. It was her experience that made her convinced true love is pure and money was less important.Maybe she was right, but in some sense, love is feed by money. For me, the views on love and marriage only by appreciating the marriage founded on the basis of mutual understanding and true love. However, a couple with mutual understanding and true love, they will sure to live happier with proper property, isn’t it?

First published in 1813, Pride and Prejudice has consistently been Jane Austen'smost popular novel. It portrays life in the genteel rural society of the day, and tells of the initial misunderstandings and later mutual enlightenment between Elizabeth Bennet (whose liveliness and quick wit have often attracted readers) and the haughtyDarcy. The title Pride and Prejudice refers (among other things) to the ways in whichElizabeth and Darcy first view each other. The original version of the novel was written in 1796-1797 under the title First Impressions, and was probably in the form of an exchange of letters.Jane Austen's own tongue-in-cheek opinion of her work, in a letter to her sister Cassandra immediately after its publication, was: "Upon the whole...I am well satisfied enough. The work is rather too light, and bright, and sparkling; it wants [i.e. needs] shade; it wants to be stretched out here and there with a long chapter of sense, if it could be had; if not, of solemn specious nonsense, about something unconnected with the story: an essay on writing, a critique on Walter Scott, or the history of Buonaparté, or anything that would form a contrast and bring the reader with increased delight to the playfulness and general epigrammatism of the general style". A Book Report about Pride and PrejudiceElizabeth is such an independent woman. She is confident, knowledgeable, and has self-esteem. She was born in a poor family and her mother wants her and her sisters to marry rich men thus to make their family rich. Since they are poor, there’s no condition for the girls to learn dancing, drawing or playing the piano. Despite all of this, Elizabeth loves reading, which makes her special.I think this has much to do with the writer Jane Austen is also a woman who loves reading and writing, though women writers are underestimated and have low social status in her time, she still insist on her interest and keep on writing. She is unfortunate because she can’t marry the man she loves and stay single for her whole life, but we are fortunate as she leaves us so many great bookswhich benefit us so much.Women who have their own opinion, confidence and future plans should be respected, such kind of women set examples for all women.Elizabeth is a represent for Jane Austen. She is brave, she cares about her sisters. When her sister Jane is sick and stays in Mr. Bingley’s home, she goes to see her regardless of the bad weather and mudded road. Eventually she arrives exhaustingly. Her dress is dirty and her hair is cluttered, but her courage and perseverance win Mr.Darcy’s heart. She is brave, she fights for her dignity. I like the conversation between she and Darcy.Darcy: Miss Bingley has given me credit for more than can be. The wisest and the best of men, the wisest and best of their actions, maybe rendered ridiculous by a person whose first object in life is a joke.Elizabeth: Certainly, there are such people, but I hope I am not one of them.I hope I never ridicule what is wise or good. Follies and nonsense, whims and inconsistencies so divert me, I own, and I laugh at them whenever I can—but these, I suppose, are precisely what you are without. She is brave, she fights for her love and happiness. When Mr.Collins proposes to her, although her mother wants them to marry, she refuses, because she knows he is not the man who is suitable for her, and she doesn’t love him, she doesn’t want her happiness demolished by a man she doesn’t love.I love this novel, and I admire the author and the characters in it. I love their courage and I respect their independence.。

A Book Report of Pride and Prejudice姓名:学号:成绩:An introduction to the authorThe book is written by Jane Austen (1775-1817), an English novelist whose realism, biting social commentary and masterful use of free indirect speech, burlesque and irony have earned her a place as one of the most widely-read and best-loved writers in British literature. Jane Austen was born in a small town Stiven. She was the youngest of seven children in her family. And her father is local church parish pastor. Though Jane had never attended to a formal school, she was educated well by her father and older brothers as well as her own reading. When she was about 20 years old, she began to write novels and published 6 novels in total. However, it’s a pity that she died at the age of 41 and unmarried all her life.Plot summaryPride and Prejudice mainly describes a special love story of an arrogant man and a woman who prejudices the man. Of course, they clear up their misunderstanding and get married finally. Two leading roles of the novel are Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Elizabeth is a lovely and clever woman who grows up in the village. The most important thing is that she pursues free love. She hates her mother’s idea of treating marriage as a tool to attain interest and vanity. That may be why she asks if Jane really love Charles when their mother wants Jane to marry Charles and why she refuse the courtships from Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy. Fitzwilliam is an arrogant man first. He treats anyone with whom he isn’t familiar chillily. However, Elizabeth changes him, and he becomes a real gentleman eventually. My commentsThe beginning of the novel says,“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of good fortune must be in want of a life.” This sentence juststate the background of the novel. Though the Industrial Revolution made British modernize rapidly, it’s conservative in village. Female’s social position bent comparatively at that time. Thus women tried to get a better and richer life by marrying men with a lot of property. The first scene of the novel is that Mrs. Bennet tell Mr. Bennet about the new owner of Netherfield: Charles Bingley, “a single young man of large fortune from the north of England”. The only mind in her heart is to let one of her daughters marry him and then the others can marry gentlemen like him. From this scene, I just find Mrs. Bennet is so philistine and feudalistic. Maybe she is the epitome of women in that era which women just live relying on men like vines live relying on trees. However, Elizabeth is different. She doesn’t agree with her mother. In my opinion, what Elizabeth thinks may be on behalf of the author. Women should have their own work, should have their own love, should have their own choice and have their own life. In the era that the consciousness of women doesn’t wake, this thought was deviating from the norm. Nevertheless, it just was popular among the youth, then the masses. That proves the importance of the background. In that social context (the Industrial Revolution), women’s consciousness will wake up sooner or later. Thus, Jane’s opinion can be accepted soon.Though most people like Elizabeth best, in my heart, Fitzwilliam is the most attractive. Not because I am a girl. Fitzwilliam’s character is the main reason. Maybe he is arrogant at first. But that’s not because he look down upon others. It’s just for he can’t get along well with strangers and his parents only teach him pride. Finally, he changes himself and is gentle to everyone. Love changes him. As we all know, if someone can be changed by love, he must love deeply. Mr. Darcy is just the man with deeply and undivided love. Besides, he is a direct person. He just expresses his impression directly. Love is love, and hate is hate. This kind of man is more reliable. The other leading role, Elizabeth, is popular among women because of her thought of free love. To have her own real lover, she even refuses the courtships from Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy (the first time) who are recognized as best husband in others’ eyes. The main line in the novel is her attitude to Fitzwilliam: from prejudiceto respect then to love. She proves a truth by her experience: A woman who has her own dependent and free mind can have real freedom as well as true love. Compared with her other sisters who are tied with the era and don’t have their own opinions, she is just the happiest one.As a matter of fact, Jane wrote this novel is not only to publicize the freedom of women, but also satirize silliness, selfishness, snobbery and other shortcomings of people. These feudal people and background make the love between Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth difficult to achieve. Fortunately, they beat the feudalism and get married. Nevertheless, another couple in another novel is not so lucky: C atherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff in the novel Wuthering Heights. Even though they fall in love with each other, they can’t company with each other forever. They lose to the feudalism. As a modern person, maybe I can’t identified them totally, but I am still moved by their love, feel nervous when they seem to be broken up, feel angry when they misunderstand and argue with each other. Also I become hot-blooded when the leading roles pursue their love and fight with the feudalism. It’s classical, and I will remember the moving love forever.。
