Energy: How fast particles move.
Density: The formula for density is mass/volume. The bigger the
volume, the smaller the density, and also vice versa.
Hot air balloon
Elina Lin in Mr. Marek’s exploratory science class
Today’s Vocabulary
Pressure: How much particles push out against something. Particle: A group of atoms, extremely small.
Matter: Something made up of trillions and trillions of atoms and/or molecules
Why does hot things have higher pressure?
• When something is hot, it have more energy. When you have a lot of energy, you will zoom around (become hyper), and that’s the similar to particles moving around. They start moving faster as they become hotter. • As the hot particles move around faster, they began to push out
more. We define pressure as how mush something is pushing out.
So as tห้องสมุดไป่ตู้e particles push out more, their pressure gets higher.
• Because the material the hot air balloon is made of is elastic, the higher pressure inside actually expand the balloon bigger. This cause the density of the balloon to decrease. Because the interior of the balloon is not as dense as the air outside, the balloon begins to float.
