Now let's share his experiences in China:During my five years in China, I have had the chance to travel all over China and see some interesting things. I not only have seen many places of interest, such as the Great Wall in Beijing, the home of Confucius in Qufu, Shandong Province, and the city of Xi'an, I've also seen beautiful gardens in Suzhou, Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou Province, and wonderful beaches in Dalian and Qingdao. Huangguoshu Waterfall is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. I've also met many friendly people around China. They included students in middle schools I visited in Inner Mongolia, Shanxi Province, and Guizhou. All of my experiences were wonderful.

Spreading HappinessJessica Martin and Asherah Weiss are art teachers in a primary school. They thought their students might have the magic words that could bring calm to people in difficult times, so they created a project called “Pep Toc” with their students. The project had two parts—one was setting up a hotline, and the other was making encouraging posters. The two teachers had the same basic question for all the students: “What could you say to help or encourage someone else?”Students working on the hotline thought of what they would like to say. Then Ms. Martin recorded each one, and sorted out(分类)the recordings into different parts of the telephone hotline. When people call the hotline, they can hear happy voices of children of different ages sharing positive(积极的)messages. For example, pressing 1 brings ideas for people who are “feeling mad or nervous”. Helpful suggestions include: “listen to music”, or “go and get a cookie”. Pressing 2 results in “words of encouragement and life advice”. This includes messages like: “The world is a better place with you in it.” and “You are okay!” By pressing 3, you can hear a group of children saying together: “You can do it! Keep trying, don’t give up!”Other students made encouraging posters and hung them up around the town. Many posters had strips of paper. When people passed by, they could tear off(撕掉)the strips and take with them. For example, one poster said “If you are mad, think of positive thoughts, and had strips reminding people to “Be happy”.Ms. Martin thought the project would only attract interest from people near the school. But in its first six weeks, the hotline got 5 million calls from around the world. It has become very popular with stressed adults, patients in hospitals, and others who just want to hear the happy voices of children. For Martin and Weiss, the project shows students that small acts can have a big influence. “If you have an idea, just try to do it and see what happens,” Weiss says. Students now know that they have amazing power. They’re already thinking about new messages to record for the Pep Toc Hotline.1.Who created the project “Pep Toc”?_________________________________2.What are the two parts of the project?_________________________________3.How did Ms. Martin and the students set up the hotline?_________________________________4.What could people do when they passed by the posters?_________________________________5.What is the last paragraph mainly about?_________________________________阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。

With the development of the television and the Internet, many people have changed their hobbies and the way they enjoy their spare time. ①Because of the television and the Internet, many people spend less time reading. The aim of this article is to give reasons why people should read just for pleasure. The reasons that I give you are quite simple: to improve your knowledge, to have more fun, to make your imagination fly, to find new ways to express your ideas, and to have a better understanding of life.Firstly, you can improve your knowledge when you read. There are all kinds of good books to choose from. People who read more usually have a better idea at life than those who do not read often.Secondly, you can have fun and increase your imagination by reading books. Children have very good imagination, so parents need to read lots of stories that feed their imagination. Adults should try to develop their imagination by reading books that make them think amazing things. Finally, no matter how old you are, it can help you have a better understanding of life and express your ideas to others in a simple and correct way.①所以我建议你多读。

In life, once on a path, we tend to follow it, for better or worse. What’s sad is that even if it’s the latter, we often follow a certain path anyway because we are used to the way things are that we don’t even recognize that they could be different. Psychologists call this phenomenon functional fixedness. This classic experiment will give you an idea of how it works — and a sense of whether you may have fallen into the same trap:People are given a box of tacks (大头钉) and some matches and asked to find a way to attach a candle to a wall so that it burns properly. Typically, the subjects try tacking the candle to the wall or lighting it to fix it with melted wax (石蜡). The tacks are too short, and the candle doesn’t fasten to the wall. So how can you accomplish the task? The successful technique is to use the tack box as a candle holder. You empty it, tack it to the wall, and stand the candle inside it.To think of that, you have to look beyond the box's usual role as a container just for tacks and reimagine it serving an entirely new purpose. That is difficult because we all suffer — to one degree or another — from functional fixedness. The inabilityto think in new ways affects people in every corner of society. The political theorist Hannah Arend coined the phrase frozen thoughts to describe deeply held ideas that we no longer question but should. In Arendt’s eyes, the complacent reliance on such accepted “truths” also made people blind to ideas that didn’t fit their worldview, even when there was ample evidence for them. Frozen thinking has nothing to do with intelligence, she said, “It can be found in highly intelligent people.”Another context in which frozen thinking can turn truly dangerous is medicine. If you land in the hospital, it’s natural to want to be treated by the most experienced physicians on staff. But according to a 2014 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), you’d be better off being treated by the relative novices.1.What does “functional fixedness” mean?2.How is the candle attached to the wall?3.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.Frozen thinking is common among ordinary people as well as those with high although frozen thinking has much to do with intelligence.4.How can you avoid frozen thoughts in your daily life? I have too much stuff. My bedroom is often very messy. I have many books I never read and CDs I don’t listen to. My drawers are full of clothes I never wear. I was getting disappointed because I never had any space in my bedroom. Then I read about minimalism(极简主义). Minimalism is a style of living where you only keep the most important items and you keep off everything else. After reading about minimalism, I felt encouraged to solve my problem.Minimalism advises that you only keep the necessaries for living, so I started clearing out the things I didn’t use. I collected bags of clothes to give to charities. I sold some of my CDs and books online. After a while of clearing, it became quite exciting to get things out of my room and create some fresh space. They say that a clear, organized bedroom means you will have a clear and organized mind! The main idea behind minimalism is to reduce what you own, and by doing this you can really appreciate the things you have. It’s not easy to live this lifestyle. We are often told that it is better to have more things. Advertisements try to convince(使确信) us that we will only be happy by spending more money buying more stuff.Of course, I’m not a perfect minimalist — I’ve only just started. But the young man never had to deal with any problems.“My boy should have some experience of dealing with ill luck,” thought the father, so he sent the son into the forest to bring back some wood. Only an old cart (马车) with two oxen (公牛) was free for the work.“If your cart breaks up in the forest, ‘Necessity’ will teach you what to do,” the man said. The son thought that “Necessity” must be a kind man who lived in the forest and helped people in trouble. The son drove far into the forest and found lots of good trees. He cut down the trees and put the wood onto the cart. When the cart was full, he set off for home. However, as he drove over the rough ground, one of the axles (车轴) broke.“I hope that ‘Necessity’ is nearby,” thought the son. Then he ran all the way through the forest and shouted, “NECESSITY! What useless advice Father gave me!”He went back to the cart and started to repair the axle. When the work was done, he drove home. My community, located in northern Pudong, has been among the worst affected. In order to stop the spread of the virus, it has carried out rounds of all-inclusive nucleic acid(核酸)testing. As a result, volunteers have been in high demand. I have called this community home for nearly twelve years. With a deep love for it, I decided to help out.My shift began at 6 a.m. on March 16. I was assigned to serve at one of the neighborhoods in the area. There were altogether about 2,500 residents. Neighborhood committee(居委会)workers guided then down group by group to the testing site. Some of the residents had never used the Healthcare Cloud system before. The elderly, in particular, needed help with the registration process. We volunteers showed them how to use the system or registered them for their test using our own smartphones.Everything went smoothly until about 8:30. A few residents told me that the Healthcare Cloud system was not working. I tried to log onto the system myself and found the service was indeed unstable. The line became longer and longer as more and more people ran into the same problem. It was a hot day. Some people quickly lost their patience and tried to cut in line. Some took off their masks in order to chat with one another. I told them to put their masks back on andto maintain a safe distance apart from one another while continuing to help the residents register for their test. Some elderly residents with mobility(活动能力)issues were unable to come themselves tothe testing site. For these residents, the medical workers provided home service. It was difficult for them to climb the stairs as they were wearing thick protective clothing. We worked until 3 p.m. When the medical workers took off their protective clothing, I noticed that their fingers were soaked in sweat(汗水)and had become wrinkled. It broke my heart to know that __________ because of the high demand for nucleic acid testing throughout the city. On some days, they were only able to get two to three hours of sleep. It was a tiring day, but I felt happy that I was able to help out. She looked for an English training course, but in the end, she changed it to a swimming training class.“Due to the stricter regulations (规定) on subject-training classes, many parents like me choose sports or other projects for developing interests instead,” Sun said.Sun’s choice is part of the result of the government’s growing efforts to lighten the academic pressure on young students. On July 24 last year, Chinese government introduced a guideline (意见) to ease the burden (负担) of excessive homework and off-campus training for primary and junior high school students. It lists requirements in areas such as reducing the amount and the difficulty of homework and improving the quality of education and after-class services provided by schools. For example, homework for children below the third grade is not allowed, while homework for junior high school students should take no longer than 90 minutes to finish.According to the guideline, training institutions (机构) cannot teach students content that is too advanced for the school curriculum. No training courses can be taught on weekends, national holidays or during winter and summer vacations.According to Global Times, more than 75 percent of Chinese urban children, from Grade 1 to Grade 12, are enrolled in training programs. However, some training institutions take part in anxiety marketing, selling unnecessary programs that increase the burden on students. Many parents showed their support for the new moves. “Subject learning is enough at school and we hope to improve the children’s overall quality of life during holidays.” a parent surnamed (姓) Zhou in Guangzhou told Xinhua. However, there are also some concerns. A parent surnamed Chen in Shanxi said that although she agreed on new moves, she worried about ________.At present, nine cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang and Guangzhou, have been selected to carry out the guideline. I have rarely seen so much milk. Well, the damage has already been done. Would you like to get down and play in the milk for a few minutes before we clean it up?”Indeed, he did. After a few minutes, his mother said, “You know, Robert, whenever you make a mess like this, eventually you have to clean it up and restore everything to its proper order.”After they cleaned up the spilled milk, his mother then said, “You know, what we have here is a failed experiment in how to effectively carry a big milk bottle with two hands. Let’s go out in the back yard and fill the bottle with water and see if you can discover a way to carry it without dropping it.”The little boy learned that if he grasped the bottle at the top near the lip with both hands, he could carry it without dropping it. At that moment he knew he didn’t need to be afraid to make mistake. Instead, he learned that mistake were just good chances for learning something new, which is, after all, what scientific experiments are all about. I tried again. Still nothing happened.①So, I took a piece of paper from a notepad and wrote, “If you don’t want to talk, we can write notes to each other.” and slipped(滑动) it under the door.①An hour later, I was still sitting outside the bathroom with two piles(堆) of cards in front of me. They are cards from Kevin on which he had put all his unpleasant feelings into words for me. As I read one of Kevin’s notes, I couldn’t help crying. One of Kevin’s notes said, “Nobody in this family cares about me. I am not the youngest, and I am not the oldest, and I am not the smartest. Tommy thinks that I am too weak and Dad wishes he had another Kevin as a kid because he’s better at basketball. And you’re never around to even notice me.”①He was right about my part. Feeling sorry for him, I wrote back, “Kevin, I do love you andI am here for you and you are loved in this family.” He didn’t reply for a while, but I could hear him crying softly. Kevin ran out of paper, so he wrote “Thanks” on a paper cup. I wrote back “For what?” It was returned to me with the reply “Loving me” written on it.①Since then, I have tried my best to care about my family members. The poor animal cried for hours before his owner finally found him. The farmer tried hard to pull him out from the well but failed. He felt very sorry for the donkey but after carefully thinking about the situation, he decided that he would not save the donkey. Since the donkey was too old and it was not worth the trouble of saving. So he invited his neighbours to help him bury(埋葬) the old donkey in the well so that it would make him end his pain.Hearing many people coming to help, the old donkey was excited at first. As they began to scoop the dirt into the well with shovels (铲子), he soon realized what was happening. He felt very upset and cried sadly again. As the farmer and his neighbours continued throwing the dirt on his back, he suddenly had a good idea. Some time later, when the farmer finally looked down into the well, he was surprised at what he saw: every time the dirt landed on his back, he would shake it off and take a step up!Soon, everyone was amazed when the donkey stepped proudly over the edge of the well and ran away quickly! It seemed that it would bury him at first, but it actually helped him later because of the manner in which he faced his trouble. That is life! Just like the donkey, life is going to throw dirt on us, all kinds of dirt. As long as we face our problems in an active way, and refuse to give in to any trouble, each dirt is like a stepping stone with which we get out of the deepest wells. Never stop and never give up.

Do you want to improve the way you study? Do you feel nervous before a test? Many students say that a lack(缺少) of concentration (注意力) is their biggest problem. It seriously affects their ability to study, so do their test results. If so, use these tips to help you.Study TechniquesYou should always study in the same place. You shouldn’t sit in a position that you use foranother purpose. For example, when you sit on a sofa to study, your brain will t hink it is time to relax. Don’t watch TV while you are studying. Experts warn that your concentration may be reduced by 50 percent if you attempt(尝试) to study in this way. Always try to have a white wall in front of you, so there is nothing to distract (make less concentrated) you. Before sitting down to study, gather together all the equipment you need. Besides your textbooks, pens, pencils and knives, make sure you have a dictionary. If your study desk or table is needed when you are not studying, store all your equipment in a box beside it.Your eyes will become tired if you try to read a text which is on a flat surface. Soccer is played by millions of people all over the world, but there have only been few players who were truly great. How did these players get that way-was it through practice, or are great players “born, not made〞? First, these players come from places that have had famous stars in the past-players that a young boy can look up to and try to imitate. In the history of soccer, only six countries have ever won the World Cup-three from South America and three from Western Europe. ____________-or a really great player-from North America or from Asia. Second, these players have all had years of practice in the game. Alfredo Di Stefano was the son of a soccer player, as was Pele. Most players began playing the game at the age of three or four. Finally, many great players come from the same kind of neighourhood-a poor, crowded area where a boy’s dream is not to be a doctor, lawyer, or businessman, but to become a rich, famous athlete or entertainer. For example, Liverpool, which produced the Beetle, has one of the best English soccer teams in recent years. Pele practiced in the street with a “ball〞made of rags. And George Best learned the tricks that made him famous by bouncing the ball off a wall in the slums of Belfast. All great players have a lot in common, but that doesn’t explain why they are great. Hundreds of boys played in those Brazilian streets, but only one became Pele. The greatest players are born with some unique quality that sets them apart from all the others.1.What is the main idea of the passage? 阅读表达一、阅读回答问题Air is important for everyone, we live depending on it. But what if it is polluted? Air pollution is a killer. The World Health Organization says it kills about seven million people around the world each year. Even if polluted air does not kill us, it can make us very sick. It may do more than hurt your body. Breathing dirty air can also influence your brain and your ability to think. It is true whether you believe or not.A new study shows that air pollution can influence our intelligence (智力) — cause a “huge” reduction in our intelligence. The study was carried out by researchers at Peking University and Yale University. Xi Chen of the Yale School of Public Health led the study. The study performed for a long period. The researchers studied about 25,000 people from across China. The youngest people in the study were 10 years old, while the oldest was 90. They came from 25 of China’s 34 provinces (省) with different air levels. These Chinese men, women and children were given language and math tests during the study. Then researchers compared the test results with levels of pollution in the air. They found that breathing polluted air can reduce a person’s education level by about one year.Xi Chen told that there are two main parts in the brain—white matter and gray matter. He said, “Air pollution has a great effect on the white matter, and white matter is more connected with a person’s language skills. So, that’s why language skills are more affected.” He also noted other studies have shown, “However gray matter is connected to our ability to solve math problems.”Chen suggests government to make serious changes. “We need to support in cleaning up the sky instead of using in short-term avoidance, for example the face masks or air filters (过滤).”1.What can influence your brain and your ability to think?________________________________________________2.Where was the new study carried out?________________________________________________3.How many people did the researchers study from across China?________________________________________________4.Why are language skills more affected than math?________________________________________________5.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?________________________________________________二、阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。

Sadly, when she was 14, her beloved father passed away and she was unable to do volunteer work with him. However, she was determined and never gave up, which makes for a good firefighter. Now Renee is a member of the Carmel Fire Department, where she is required to be an Emergency Medical Technician. She should also be ready to deal with any emergency, like fighting a fire, dealing with a car accident or helping someone who’s sick. Sometimes she is in the driver’s seat or using the water pump. Renec works nine to eleven days a month on 24-hour shifts. She also has a family to care for, as her husband is also a busy firefighter. Dealing with housework and working so much can show her great determination. When I asked Renee what the best part of her job is, she replied, “Helping people and the satisfaction of saving lives.” I think that shows signs of being a true hero. She’s always willing to do anything for anyone in need. Renee says that her job is frightening at times, but extremely exciting. “The worst part of my job is that I see death. Actually, sometimes, people die in the accident, for which I was very sorry,” said Renee.I was inspired by this because I know I would be very scared to do her job and don’t know if I could handle seeing people die. These relatively unexplored places are so rare these days and hold the very fundamentals of exploration, which attract me. So finally I made the journey.” MacDonald started her journey in Mauritania’s capital city Nouakchott, and headed inland where she and her team jumped on the world’s longest cargo train (货运列车) for a 435-mile journey on the Mauritania Railway. “The train was dirty and uncomfortable but it was such an interesting and unique way to travel through the vast desert by train,” said MacDonald.MacDonald and her group had to face many challenges on their journey. Except for the dirt and discomfort, the travelers also had to deal with the intense heat, violent winds and even dangerous sandstorms. “I was out taking photographs and within minutes, the wind increased to more than 100 miles an hour,” MacDonald said. “I thought my skin was going to be torn off because of the rain and blowing sand. It felt like sandpaper on my skin. I have never experienced winds that strong before. There was once a time when I wanted to give up.”She dealt with the harsh (恶劣的) conditions by trying not to travel in the middle of the day and wore headscarves to protect herself from the sun and blowing sand. “The weather definitely dictates when and where you travel,” said MacDonald. Her mother, Amanda Chitsey, works at nursing homes in northwest Arkansas, and Ruby Kate often goes with her in the summer. “I’ve never found them scary at all, so I’m able to just go up to them and ask if they need anything,” she says.Last May, Ruby Kate noticed a resident named Pearl staring out a window. She seemed sad. “What are you looking at?” Ruby Kate asked. Pearl said she was watching her dog being led away by his new owner after a visit. Pearl didn’t know when she would see her dog again.Ruby Kate and Amanda asked around and discovered that the nursing home didn’t allow residents to have dogs and Pearl couldn’t afford to pay anyone to look after hers. The Chitseys also learned that many nursing home residents are unable to afford even the smallest luxuries. So Ruby Kate decided to do something about it.She started by asking residents what three things they wanted most in the world. “That’s a lot simpler than going, ‘Hey, what do you want?’” she explains. “They can understand you better.” Amanda worried that people would ask for cars and other things an 11-year-old wouldn’t be able to provide. Instead, they asked for chocolate bars, McDonald’s fries, pants that fit properly, and even just a prayer.“It broke me as a human,” Amanda says. “We left the nursing home that day and went straight to a store and bought as many items as we could.” Using their own money, the Chitseys granted the wishes of about 100 people in three months. Then they started asking for donations, set up a GoFundMe page, Three Wishes for Ruby’s Residents, and raised more than $250,000 in five months. As a lawyer, I specialized in corporate law in oil and gas projects. Actually, I’d grown to hate my job. It involved too much paperwork and a lot of traveling, which was really exhausting for me.Becoming a lawyer was unintended. I loved my school but it was competitive and students were destined for a good university, and then a graduate plan. That was the track I was on. After graduation, I became a lawyer, but that just made me trapped. I wanted to make a difference, but I had no idea what else I could do.On that life-changing flight, I asked a stewardess to bring me a hot drink. When she returned, I couldn’t help crying. Hugging me, she said, “I don’t know what’s wrong but if you’re crying in business class, you need to change your life.”Those words had a great effect on me. I couldn’t carry on in a job that made me so uncomfortable. After much reflection, I resigned 18 months later. The last time I’d been happy was when I was volunteering at a school. Because of that, my friend Sophia kept telling me I’d love teaching. Then I contacted four schools and became a teacher in the end. No amount of planning would have prepared me for my first day as a teacher. It was stressful, but as I became familiar with thecurriculum, I relaxed.Five years on, I’m head of department. Watching my students develop is so rewarding and results day makes me burst with pride. I used to feel scared about the thought of becoming a more senior lawyer, but I’m so positive about the opportunities teaching can offer. I earn less now but I become richer in many ways.Every single day, I feel excited to go to work.1.Why did the author hate her job as a lawyer? (no more than 15 words)2.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean? (no more than 3 words)3.What made the author decide to become a teacher? (no more than 10 words)4.How does the author’s life change after being a teacher? (no more than 10 words)5.What kind of job will you choose after graduation? Please explain. (no more than 20 words)五、In 2016, Wanda Dench was trying to let her grandkids know about the family’s upcoming plans for the holiday and tried to send a text message to her grandson. But Jamal Hinton, who was a 17-year-old high school student and complete stranger to Dench at the time, received the text instead.Once the two Arizona natives realized the mistake, Hinton asked if he could “still get a plate,” according to screenshots he posted on Twitter. Dench replied, “Of course, you can. That’s what grandmas do...feed everyone.”Hinton shared the sweet conversation on social media and the story quickly went viral (疯传). They have celebrated Thanksgiving together every year since, always snapping photos and taking videos, much to the delight of many following their story. This year, a very important person is missing from the annual tradition — Dench’s husband, Lonnie. He died from the coronavirus this spring. Wanda was able to be with him during his final moments.Dench and Hinton thought about the risks of holding a Thanksgiving celebration amid the pandemic (疫情期间), weighing if they could figure out a way to get together the day before gathering with their own individual families. But, they eventually concluded the risk was too high.In honor of Lonnie, the friends instead held a small gathering on Friday. Dench, her actual grandson, her daughter, Hinton and his girlfriend, Mikaela, got together for an early Thanksgiving meal. The event was a sharp contrast from the larger celebrations of years past.“I didn’t want to miss Thanksgiving with Jamal,” Dench said. “This year is definitely different than all the years in the past.”To honor Lonnie, an empty seat and lit candle were placed at the head of the table. The beloved husband would always say grace before the holiday meal, so this year, Dench led the prayer.“Thank you for all the blessings, and thank you so much for having Lonnie in my life,” Dench said as everyone sat around the table. “I miss him, but I know he’s in a good place. So to everybody here, I love you and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.”1.What was the relationship between Dench and Hinton at the beginning of the story? After the two-year course, he decided to study traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.Since TCM is also related to Chinese history and culture, students have to study ancient Chinese literature as most of the medical texts were written in ancient Chinese characters. “That’s a subject even the Chinese find difficult; so think of me, a foreigner!” he said. What inspired him to continue were the similarities between TCM and traditional African medicine, such as using certain herbs to treat the same diseases and letting out blood. However, the greatest challenge for him was to convince people that even though he was a foreigner, he could still treat them effectively with TCM.In 1997, he became the first foreigner to receive a doctoral (博士的) degree in acupuncture (针灸) from Chengdu University of TCM.Besides his work in a private hospital, Boubacar has also been helping patients in remote villages in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. [1] Watching the Olympics probably made some people feel a little guilty about not exercising. The truth is, if physical inactivity were a sport, a lot of us could give a gold – medal performance. Public health experts say physi cal inactivity is the world’s fourth leading cause of death. They estimate that inactivity plays a major part in six to ten percent of deaths from non –communicable diseases.[2] The researchers compared data on physical inactivity with disease rates in 122 countries and drew a conclusion that , as harmful as far as deaths are concerned as smoking.[3] Researchers also found that high income countries are the most inactive around the world, but low to middle income countries are not going to be far behind as things change, as their economies improve and their people rely more on the improvements that basically engineer physical activity out of our daily lives.[4] They believe the time has come to target physical inactivity as a major threat to public health. Of course, it is not just telling someone to go out and be physically active, but how we can make a difference by simply walking to the store or walking down and being outside with friends and family and so forth. These broader environmental issues are becoming much clearer in terms of their effects.[5] Experts challenge people to do 150 minutes a week of moderately intense exercise. According to one of the researchers: ―Anything you can do is great! Even if you don’t reach that 150 minutes a week, a little is better than none and more is better than a little. ‖[6] Researchers plan to return every four years – just like the Olympics – (to give a progress report) to tell us how the world is doing.76.Why does the writer mention watching the Olympics in the first paragraph? We reach out to offer friendship by offering a potential friend caring, listening, talking, sharing and accepting. It takes time and effort to build a friendship. They are built slowly, Y et, nothing can add more to your life than having truly close friends. ―Just friends‖ is a goal worth seeking![2]Self-disclosure(自我表露)is usually the first step in holding a close friendship. It is scary because of the potential rejection factor. Do it anyway! Stary by sharing a few private thoughts with one person you might want to be a close friend. If the person is responsive, he/she will usually share personal thoughts with you.[3]Often when your child, lover, or friend tells you a story or voices a complaint, he/she is just asking for acknowledgment. This does not mean that he/she wants agreement or compliance, it merealy indicates a desire to be heard and understood.[4]When a friend talks and reveals ideas or feelings, he/she is expecting shared information in return. When the talk is not equal, the person talking feels as if the listener is uninterested. In fact, the person who is always the listener is really playing the role of a counselor(顾问), not a friend. Anything you have been talking for more than a minute or two without participation from the person you are talking to you are lecturing or putting that person in the role of a counselor.[5]Friends are equal. Without equality, you can’t have a close friendship. Friends are loyal and trustworthy. No one can have faith in someone they can not trust to be loyal and to keep his/her secrets/ Friends have similar values. Our value system is so important to us that our friends’ values must be close to our own or we will not have respect for this friend.76.What is the ideal talking when you talk to a friend? The last thing they want to do is to get on with their homework. However, at this very time, parents often remind the kids to do their homework by nagging(唠叨)and cajoling(哄骗). If that doesn’t work, homework wars break out. But with some basic rules and good habits, they can be avoided.[2] When it comes to preparing your kids for homework success, one of the first things to begin is the environment they are working in. Not all children will like working alone in their bedrooms. Some children might prefer to study at the kitchen table, and providing that location works for the family, there’s no reason to force them into another room.[3] Try to keep the house relatively quiet and free of distractions. If you’re w orried you can’t provide the right equipment or environment at home, see whether the local library could offer an alternative place to study. Also, some schools will offer homework clubs, where students can complete homework and seek help from a supervising teacher if needed.[4] Once you’ve got the study environment sorted, think about when it is _____ for homework to be done. If children are old enough to make plans, it can be worth sitting down together and breaking projects into smaller tasks to be completed on different nights. This can stop kids form feeling overwhelmed(被压垮)and it also teaches them time management skills.[5] If you follow the above rules, you can avoid homework wars down the track. And if tensions are rising at home around homework, remember that a little bit of kindness can go a long way.76. What’s the main idea of the text? Well, the Spanish company StopStress is offering customers the possibility of doing just that but under controlled, safe circumstances. Customers can also destroy computers, mobile phones and TV sets in what the company calls "destruction therapy (治疗).[2]"We target the machines that cause the most stress in modern life," company co-founder Jorge Arribas said in a telephone interview. "People get rid of stress by screaming and beating the machines until they are tired out," he explained.[3]The company, based in the northern Spanish city of Soria, uses abandoned cars that still work. Heavy-metal music is used to excite the customers. They are given protective suits and glasses, helmets and hug hammers. Most people's anger only lasts for 5 to 10 minutes. But some go on for hours: they beat cars on which they've put the names of people or ideas they would like to get rid of. "Some even get together to turn the car over," Arribas says. A session costs 60 euros (US$80) per person.[4]Arribas says the idea came to him when be was having trouble parking his car. Dozens of people have used the therapy, which helps people become aware of their stress level and helps them to slow down, Arribas explained. "It's better to channel violence in a controlled way than to let it out on one's husband or wife or in a traffic jam," he added. StopStress already has branches in three Spanish cities, and is planning to extend its market beyond Spain's borders.76. What would be the best title for the passage? Now someone is making you send them away, and you may never see them again. How do you feel?[2] This is how many Harbin citizens are currently feeling as a new policy has recently been passed banning large dogs from being kept in urban areas. Sadly then, all current owners have to __________________. Understandably this is heartbreaking.[3] The animals are being forced away from the city under the banner(旗号) of public safety and cleanliness. It’s unders tandable that city officials want to create a safe and clean environment for the people of Harbin, but is the ban reasonable? Are big dogs that much of a danger and dirtier than smaller dogs? I can understand the cleanliness issue: there’s nothing worse th an walking in dog wastes and having to clean it off your shoes. It’s disgusting! But smaller dogs create just as much mess, so the problem will still be lying around.[4] Cities in other countries have no policies dictating what kind of dog one can own. But their streets are still clean and people aren’t getting chased around by crazy dogs. Dog owners should be educated properly in how to look after their animals and be punished for breaking the laws. The dog doesn’t break the law by using the sidewalk as a toilet; the owner does for not cleaning afterwards. Maybe more severe punishments for the few offending owners will be a better solution, because many dog owners do clean up after their animals.76. What is the purpose of the first paragraph ?
