2006年江苏成人学士学位英语考试真题及答案FOR A BACHELOR’S DEGREE(Nov. 2006)Paper OnePart I Listening Comprehension (15 minutes 15%)Part II Reading Comprehension (30 minutes 30%)Directions: In this part there are four reading passages. Each passage is followedby some questions or incomplete statements. For each of them there are four choicesmarked A, B, C and D. You are required to choose the best answer from the four choices. Then mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line throughthe center.Questions 16--20 are based on the following passage. The exact number of English words is not known. The large dictionaries have overhalf a million entries, but many of these are compound words (schoolroom, sugar bowl)or different derivatives of the same word (rare--rarely, rarefy), and a good manyare obsolete words to help us read older literature. Dictionaries do not attemptto cover completely words that we can draw on: the informal vocabulary, especiallyslang, localism, the terms of various occupations and professions; words used only occasionally by scientists and specialists in many fields; foreign words borrowedfor use in English; or many new words or new senses of words that come into use everyyear and that may or may not be used long enough to warrant being included. (86)It would be conservative to say that there are over a million English words thatany of us might meet in our listening and reading and that we may draw on in ourspeaking and writing.Professor Seashore concluded that first-graders enter school with at least24,000words and add 5,000 each year so that they leave high school with at least80,000.These figures are for recognition vocabulary, the words we understand when we reador hear them. Our active vocabulary, the words we use in speaking and writing , is considerably smaller. You cannot always produce a word exactly when you want it. But consciously usingthe words you recognize in reading will help get them into your active vocabulary.(87) Occasionally in your reading pay particular attention to these words, especially when the subject is one that you might well write or talk about. Underlineor make a list of words that you feel a need for and look up the less familiar onesin a dictionary. And then before very long find a way to use some of them. Once youknow how they are pronounced and what they stand for, you can safely use them.16. According to the author's estimation, there are words in English.A. more than half a millionB. at least 24,000C. at least 80,000D. more than amillion17. The italicized word "obsolete" in the first paragraph is closest in meaning toA. no longer in useB. profoundC. colorfulD. common18. One's recognition vocabulary is .A. less often used than his active vocabularyB. smaller than his active vocabularyC. as large as his active vocabularyD. much larger than his active vocabulary19. The author does not suggest getting recognition vocabulary into active vocabulary by .A. making a list of words you need end looking up the new ones in a dictionaryB. spending half an hour studying the dictionaryC. consciously using the words you recognize in readingD. trying to use the words you recognize20. From the passage we team that .A. dictionaries completely cover the words we can make use ofB. "schoolroom" is used in the passage as an example of a specialized termC. once you know how a word is pronounced and what it represents, you have turned it into your active wordD. active vocabulary refers to words we understand when we read and hear them Questions 21--25 are based on the following passageA third of Britons are overweight, states a report published in January by the Royal College of Physicians, the result of an 18-month-long study. About five percent of children weigh too much, and are likely to stay that way for life; in the mid-twenties age group the proportion of fat people rises to a third, and of the middle-aged population half ere overweight.Fat people risk severe health problems, says the report, including high blood pressure, breathlessness, and various forms of heart disease. Smoking is particularly risky for overweight people. The safest way to lose weight is to eat cereals, bread, fruit and vegetables, and cut down on fatty meats, butter and sweet foods. Fad diets do far more harm than good; slimming machines that vibrate muscles have not been proved useful; saunas (桑拿浴)merely remove a little body water, and health farms, says the report, serve as expensive holidays.(88)Exercise is most important to health, the report emphasized; though it doesn't necessarily reduce weight, it maintains the correct proportion of body fat to body muscle. And it isn't only for the young; from middle age a minimum of 20minutes of general physical jerks should be practiced three times a week..The report advocates several public health measures to combat the high prevalence of overweight in this country. They include an increase of tax on alcohol to reduce its increasing, and dangerously fattening, consumption; and the provision of more sports facilities by local authorities. Britain's doctors, the report concludes, must learn to be more sympathetic and specific in their advice to the overweight, encouraging a change in eating habits on a long-term basis, and taking into account the many ---often complex--reasons why fat people are fat.21.The passage mainly talks about .A. the cause of Britons' overweightB. how to avoid getting overweightC. Britons' overweight problemD. the relations between overweight and health problems22. According to the report, a person is most likely to stay fat for the whole of his life if he .A. gets fat in the twentiesB. gets fat in his middle ageC. is born fatD. gets fat when he is child23.The report suggests that exercise .A. is a way to reduce weightB. sometimes increase weightC. is a sure way to keep one healthyD. can convert fat to muscle24.The report points out that drinking too much alcohol .A .will also cause one to get fatB .will cause one to do less sportsC. will make one forget the fact that he is fatD. will lead one to bad eating habits25.Britain's doctors, when treating the overweight, should .A. encourage a long-term diet for everyoneB .be more considerate and give detailed adviceC. first consider why so many people are fatD. do all of the aboveQuestions 26--30 are based on the following passage. One of the most important ways an individual can reduce pollution is by conserving energy. Conserving energy reduces the air pollution created by power plants. Driving less is one of the best ways to save energy and avoid polluting the air. People can save electricity by buying more efficient light bulbs and home appliances. People can also conserve by using appliances less often.People can also buy products that are safe for the environment. For example, households can help reduce water pollution by using fewer toxic cleaning products. If consumers refuse to purchase harmful products, manufacturers will stop making them.People can also help reduce pollution by eating less meat. Farmers use large quantities of fertilizer and pesticides to raise the production of grain on which cattle, hogs, and poultry feed. Farmers would use much less fertilizers and pesticides if people chose to eat less meat and more grains, beans and vegetables. If consumers would accept produce with slight blemishes or imperfections, farmers could reduce their use of chemicals. One of the simplest ways individuals can prevent pollution is by reusing products. For example, some milk suppliers use glass bottles instead of paper cartons. The bottles may be refilled and used again. People can reuse old paper or plastic bags to carry groceries or to hold garbage. When people reuse products, they avoid both the pollution associated with the creation of a new product and the pollution caused when the product is thrown out.(89) The most important way people can fight pollution is to learn as much as possible about how their actions affect the environment Then they can make intelligent choices that will reduce damage to the planet.26. There are several ways, listed in the passage, for individuals to conserve energy except .A. driving lessB. using more efficient light bulbs and home appliancesC. using appliances less oftenD. using less fertilizer and pesticides27. 2004年江苏省成人学士学位英语考试试卷ENGLISH QUALIFICATION TESTFOR A BACHELOR’S DEGREE(Nov. 2004)Paper OnePart ⅠListening Comprehension(15minutes 15%)(共15题略)Part II Reading Comprehension:Directions: There are some reading passages in this part. Each passage is followed by five questions. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice and write down the corresponding letter in the Answer Sheet.Though your parents probably meant to have your name last a lifetime, remember that when they picked it they d hardly met you, and the hopes and dreams they cared for when they chose it may not match yours. If your name no longer seems to fit you, dont lose heart. Film stars change their names, and with some determination, you can, too.If you wish to pick up a new name, you dont need to make the change official. Under common law, all that is necessary is to start using the name of your choice. Remember, though, that you must use it everywhere-even with your mother-for it to become your legal name.Getting friends and fellow workers to call you Leach instead of Lola may be harder than any paperwork involved, but you ll probably meet official resistance, too. (86)Be sure that no law prevents you from using the name you have chosen, unless you use it for the purpose of cheating. If the gas company tells you that you cannot get your bill under a new name, they are wrong. You dont have to show them any sort of court document. You have a right to be called by whatever name you choose.By this time, youve probably realized that changing your name is more difficult than replacing your furniture or changing your hair color, though the effect can be unusually encouraging. Dont care too much if you have to keep reminding others of your change of a new name-keep on, and your friends and lover will accept your new name. Good luck!16. You may wish to change your name because ______.A. you are required to do soB. you dont mean to have your name last a lifetimeC. you like to follow what film stars often doD. you may not like your parents choice17. If you wish to start using the name of your own choice, you _____.A. must get your friends to call your new nameB. dont have to get permission from anybodyC. must use it with your mother firstD. need to be approved by the court18. You may realize that changing your name _____.A. usually has good effectB. is actually asking for troubleC. is not as easy as rearranging your roomD. means you have to go through some troubles20.The purpose of the writer in writing this passage is to _____.A. show you the need of changing your nameB. encourage you if you want to change your nameC. tell you how easy it is to change one’s nameD. list al l the difficulties in changing one’s nameIn recent years many countries of the world have been faced with the problem of how to make their workers more productive. Some experts claim the answer is to make jobs more varied. But do more varied jobs lead to greater productivity? There is evidence to suggest that while variety certainly makes the workers life more enjoyable, it does not actually make him work harder.(87)As far as increasing productivity is concerned, then variety is not an important factor.Other experts feel that giving the worker freedom to do his job in his own way is important and there is no doubt that this is true. The problem is that this kind of freedom cannot easily be given in the modern factory with its complicated machinery which must be used in a fixed way. Thus while freedom of choice may be important, there is usually very little that can be done to create it. Another important consideration is how much each worker contributes to the product he is making. In most factories the worker sees only one small part of the product. Some car factories are now experimenting with having many small production lines rather than one large one, so that each worker contributes more to the production of the cars on his line. It would seem that not only is the degree of workers contribution an important factor, therefore, but it is also one we can do something about. To what extent more money led to greater productivity? The workers themselves certainly think this is important. But perhaps they want more money only because the work they do is so boring. Money may explain demands for shorter working hours.(88)Perhaps if we succeed in making their jobs more interesting, they will neither want more money, nor will shorter working hours be so important to them.21. Which of these possible factors leading to greater productivity is not true?A. To make jobs more varied.B. To give the worker freedom to do his job in his own way.C. Degree of work contribution.D. Demands for longer working hours.22. Why workers want more money?A. Because their jobs are too boring.B. In order to enjoy more spare time.C. To make their jobs more interesting.D. In this passage, the author tells us .A. how to make the workers more productiveB. possible factors leading to greater efficiencyC. to what extent more money lead to greater productivityD. how to make workers jobs more interesting25. The author of this passage is probably a .A. teacherB. workerC. managerD. psychologistLaziness is a sin. everyone knows that. We have probably all had lectures pointing out that laziness is immoral, that it is wasteful, and that lazy people will never amount to anything in life. But laziness can be more harmful than that, and it is often caused by more complex reasons than the simplewish to avoid work. Some people who appear to be lazy are suffering from much more serious problems. They may be so distrustful of their fellow workers that they are unable to join in any group task for fear of being laughed at or fear of having their ideas stolen. These people who seem lazy may be deadened by a fear of failure that prevents fruitful work. Or other sorts of fantasies may prevent work:(89) some people are so busy planning, sometimes planning great deals of fantastic achievements, that they are unable to deal with whatever " lesser " work is on hand. Still other people are not avoiding work, strictly speaking;they are nearly procrastinating——rescheduling their day.Laziness can actually be helpful. Like procrastinators, some people look lazy when they are really thinking, planning, researching. We should all remember that some great scientific discoveries occurred by chance. Newton wasnt working in the orchard when the apple hit him and he devised the theory of gravity. Taking a rest can be particularly helpful to the athlete who is trying too hard or the doctor whos simply working himself overtime too many evenings at the clinic. So be careful when you re tempted to call someone lazy. That person may be thinking, resting or planning his or her next book.26.The main idea of this passage is that__________.A. laziness is a moral sinB. there are advantages and disadvantages in being lazyC. laziness is the sign of deep-seated emotional problemsD. lazy people do more careful work27.The passage states that_________.A. laziness is a diseaseB. laziness is more beneficial than harmfulC. a good definition of laziness is emotional illnessD. some people appear lazy because they are insecure28.Which of the following conclusion does the passage support?A. Furthermore, some of the most successful films of recent years have been based on science fiction stories. It is often thought that science fiction is a fairly new development in literature, but its ancestors(原型)can be found in books written hundreds of years ago. These books are often concerned with the presentation of some forms of ideal society, a theme which is still often found in modern stories. Most of classics of science fiction, however, have been written within the last one hundred years. Books by writers such as Jules Verne and H. G. Wells, to mention just two well – known authors, have been translated into many languages.Modern science fiction writers don’t writes about men from Mars or space adventure stories. T hey are more interested in predicting the results of technical developments on society and the human mind; or in imagining future worlds which are a reflection(反映)of the world which we live in now. Because of this their writing has obvious political undertones(含意).In an age where science fact frequently overtakes(超越)science fiction, the writers may find it difficult to keep ahead of scientific advances. (90)Those who are sufficiently clear –sighted to see the way we are going, however, may provide a valuable lesson on how to deal with the problems which society will inevitably face as it tries to come to terms with a continually changing view of the world.31. Choose the best one and mark your answer on the ANSWER SHEET with a single line through the center.Passage OneAmericans this year will swallow 15, 000 tons of aspirin, one of thesafest and most effective drugs invented by man. As the most popular medicinein the world today, it is an effective pain reliever. Its bad effects are relatively mild, and it is cheap.Although aspirin was first sold by a German company in , it has beenaround much longer than that. Hippocrates, in ancient Greece, understood the medical value of the leaves and tree bark which today are known to contain salicylates, the chemical in aspirin. During the 19th century there was agreat deal of experimentation in Europe with this chemical, and it led to the introduction of aspirin. By 19l5, aspirin tablets(片剂) were available in the United States. For millions of people suffering from arthritis, aspirin is the only thing that works. A small quantity of aspirin (two five-grain tablets) relieves pain and inflammation. It also reduces fever by interfering with some of the body's reactions. Aspirin, in short, is truly the 20th-century wonder drug. On the other hand, it is also the second largest suicide drug and is the leadingcause of poisoning among children. It has side effects that, althoughrelatively mild, are largely unrecognized among users.Aspirin is very irritating to the stomach lining, and many aspirin takers complain about upset stomach. There is a right way and a wrong way to take aspirin. The best way is to chew the tablets before swallowing them with water, but few people can stand the bitter taste. Some people suggest crushing the tablets in milk or orange juice and drinking that.16. This article discusses __________.A. the multiple functions of aspirinB. how and why aspirin was inventedC. the history and the features of aspirinD. how to take aspirin properly17. According to the second paragraph, salicylates is __________.A. leaves and tree barksB. the old name of aspirinC. the name of a US companyD. a component of aspirin18. Which symptom can NOT be treated by aspirin?A. feverB. reactionsC. painD. inflammation19. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that the best way to take aspirin is to take it __________.A. with bitter waterB. with orange juiceC. in tablet formD. in powder form20. The author of this article seems to be__________.A. against the use of aspirinB. in favour of aspirinC. doubtful about aspirinD. not interested in aspirinPassage TwoDr. Mary Jo Bane is the associate director of the Center for Research on Women. Her recent study found “surprising evidence of the persistence of American commitments to family life”, which cast doubt on some common myths about American family.Myth 1: The American Family is Dying Because of the Soaring Divorce Rate.According to Dr. Bane’s study, the American family is changing, not dying. It is becoming smaller and the divorce rate is high. But Dr. Bane says that despite the high divorce rate, marriage has never been more popular. The majority of divorced people re-marry, but only 2%marry more than twice. Most marriages last a long time, and a large proportion of divorces are fromteenage marriages. Depending on the specific situation, there’s often good reason for teenage marriages to break up.Myth 2: Working Mothers are Destroying the Family by Neglecting Their Children.“There’s no evidence that children receive less attention from mothers who work outside the home than from mothers working inside the home,” says Dr. Bane. “You have to div ide the time into different categories: simple physical function and educational time or development time when a mother plays with the child. So far we haven’t seen the amount of educational or development time vary much, whether or not the mother works ou tside the home.” In fact, Dr. Bane finds evidence that working mothers, especially in the middle class, tryto compensate for working by setting aside time exclusively for their children. “They probably read more to their children and spend more time in pl anned activities with them than nonworking mothers do.” says Dr. Bane.21. Dr. Mary Jo Bane’s study seems to suggest that _________.A. Americans are persistent in careerB. Americans are serious with their familiesC. American families are all breaking upD. American families are perfect as usual22. It can be inferred that the common myths of American family consider family life to be _________.A. in great dangerB. quite wonderfulC. changing too fastD. very satisfying23. According to the article, which of the following is true about marriage and divorce?A. Divorced people never consider a second marriage.B. Teenage couples often divorce out of no reason.C. Less and less people plan to get married.D. Very few people have a third or fourth marriage.24. For the children whose mothers go out to work, __________.A. it is better to have mothers at homeB. almost no attention is paid to themC. no less attention is paid to themD. a lot of time is spent playing gamespared with nonworking mothers, working mothers________.A. spare less time to stay with their childrenB. do more educational activities with childrenC. do very little simple physical houseworkD. avoid disturbing their work by family dutiesPassage ThreeCrime has its own cycles, a magazine reported some years ago. Police records that were studied for five years from over 2,400 cities and towns show a surprising link between changes in the season and crime patterns in UK.The pattern of crime has varied very little over a long period of years. Murder reaches its high during July and August, as do rape and other violent attacks. Murder, moreover, is more than seasonal: it is a weekend crime. It is also a nighttime crime: 62 percent of murders are committed between 6 p. m. and 6 a. m.Unlike the summer high in crimes of bodily harm, burglary has a different cycle. You are most likely to be robbed between 6 p. m. and 2 a. m. on a Saturday night in December, January or February. The most uncriminal month ofall is May; however, more dog bites are reported in this month than in any other month of the year.On the other hand, our intellectual seasonal cycles are completely different from our criminal tendencies. Professor Huntington, of the Foundation for the Study of Cycles, made extensive studies to discover the seasons when people read serious books, attend scientific meetings, make the highest scores on examinations, and propose the most changes to patents. Inall instances, he found a spring peak and an autumn peak separated by a summer low. On the other hand, Professor Huntington's studies indicated that June is the peak month for suicides and admissions to mental hospitals. June is also a peak month for marriages!26. The seasonal cycle of crime patterns is proved by_________.A. the figures in police recordsB. 2,400 cities and townsC. a magazine reportD. the studies by police officers27. According to paragraph 2, a murder would most possibly occur on_________.A. a weekday morning in springB. a weekday morning in autumnC. a weekend night in summerD. a weekend night in winter28. What makes May a special month of the year?A. All types of crimes happen in May.B. There is no crime happened in May.C. Criminals increase in number in May.D. Dog attacks are most frequent in May.29. Which behavior is NOT an example of human intellectual activities?A. Reading books on philosophy.B. Attending wedding ceremony.C. Working on mathematics questions.D. Innovating engineering machinery.30. According to Professor Huntington’s study, June is the peak month when people _________.A. get divorcedB. recover from mental illnessC. try to kill themselvesD. climb high and low mountainsPassage FourIn Lusaka, Zambia, a young man applying for a job was told to see the manage r. He leaned over the receptionist’s desk and asked. “What tribe(部落) is he?” When the receptionist told him that the manager was a Mashona, the applicant replied, “Then I'll never get the job.”This phenomenon is called tribalism(部落主义). There are more than 2,000 tribes in black Africa. Each has its own language, customs, and physical characteristics that make its members almost immediately recognizable to a person from another tribe. To the Westerner, tribalism is one of the most difficult of African customs to understand. It makes many people think of savagery, warfare, or old-fashioned customs. However, to most Africans, tribalism simply means very strong loyalty to one’s ethnic group. It is a force that can be both good and bad. Bydefinition tribalism means sharing among members of the extended family. It makes sure that a person is taken care of by his own group tribesman. To give a job to a fellow is not wrong; it is an obligation. Similarly, for apolitician or military leader, it is considered good common sense to choose his closest advisers from people of his own tribe. This ensures security, continuity, and authority. Tribal loyalty may mean a quick promotion―from sergeant to captain, from clerk to manager―within a very short time.Modern African politicians publicly speak out against tribal divisions. Yet it remains perhaps the most powerful force in day-to-day African life.31. In paragraph 1, why did the young man believe his job application will be refused?A. His behavior was not appropriate.B. He belonged to the same tribe with the manager.C. He didn’t belong to the same tribe with the manager.D. His questions annoyed the receptionist.32. The situation in the first paragraph is an example of_______.A. the difficulty of getting a job in AfricaB. the disagreement on tribalism among AfricansC. the great numbers of tribes in AfricaD. the importance of tribalism in Africa33. What might be the common attitudes of Westerners towards tribalism?A. positiveB. indifferentC. negativeD. none of the above34. According to the article, which of the following is NOT an evidence of tribalism?A. Sergeants maintain security in his own tribe.B.Politicians choose men from his own tribe as intimate advisers.C. Military leaders promote fellow tribesmen to higher positions.D. Managers give jobs to fellow tribesmen.35. What would be the future of tribalism?A. It will soon be destroyed by modern politicians.B. It will remain as strong as it is today and never be changed.C. It will gradually disappear as the society develops.D. It will speed up further division of tribes.Part IV Cloze Test (10 points)Directions: There are 10 blanks in the following passage. For each numbered blank, there are 4 choices marked A, B, C and D. For example, too many tourists can crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the local people of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the local people become unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country’s economy(经济). It is important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects them. Tourism should help a country keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should also advance(推动) the well-being (health and happiness) of local people.Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This m eans that other parts of the country’s economy can suffer. On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also lose money. It costs a lot of money to build large hotels, airports, air terminals, first-class roads and other support facilities needed by tourist attractions. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel will lose money.Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity, sewers to handle waste, and water. All of these support facilities cost money. 91.If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost译文:假如没有适当的规划,旅游可能会浮现问题。

Each passage is followed by five questions. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice and write down the corresponding letter in the Answer Sheet.A library is more than just a place where books are stored. A library is a source of information. That information may come from books (fiction, nonfiction, or reference books), from periodicals (newspapers, magazines, and journals), from audio-visual material (records, cassettes microfilm, video tapes, etc. ), or even from a computer terminal. Students go to libraries to study and to write research papers. The periodicals room of a university library is where foreign students often find newspapers and magazines from their countries. In the reference room, they can find catalogs from many universities in the U.S. and other countries. If you are buying a used car, the reference librarian can show you the Blue Book, which lists the prices of new and used cars. People who need information in a hurry can telephone the reference librarian at many libraries. (86)There are as many different library services as there are types of people who use them. Children'slibraries provide materials for young readers. They sometimes have story tellers who read stories to groups of children, and a few have computers for the children to play with. Music lovers can listen to recordings of their favorite musicians in music libraries. Some libraries offer special services for blind people, such as books in Braille, "talking" books, and Kurzweil Reading Machines. Libraries provide entertainment as well as information. Novels and short stories from a library's fiction collection are a good source of enjoyable reading practice. Public libraries often sponsor lectures on topics of interest to members of the community, and a few even offer concerts and films. Libraries offer many different services.Very old people do raise moral problem for almost everyone who comes into touch with them. Their values-this can’t be repeated too often-are not necessarily our values. Physical comfort, cleanness and order are not necessarily the most important for them. The social services from time to time find themselves faced with a flat with going-bad food covered with dust on the table, and an old person lying alone on bed, taking no notice of anything. Is it doing harm to personal freedom to insist that they go to live with some of their relatives so that they might be taken better care of? Some social workers are the ones who clean up the dust, thinking we are in danger of carrying this idea of personal freedom to the point where serious risks are being taken with the health and safety of the old.Indeed, the old can be easily hurt or harmed. The body is like a car: it needs more care as it gets older. You can carry this comparison right through to the provision of spare parts. (87) But never forget that such operations are painful experiences, however good the results. And at what point should you stop treating the old body? Is it right to try to push off death by using drugs to excite the forgetful old mind and to activate the old body, knowingthat there is little hope? You cannot ask doctors or scientists to decide, because so long as they can see the technical opportunities, they will feel sure to have a try on the b elief that while there’s life, three’s hope. When you talk to the old people, however, you are forced to the conclusion that whether age is happy or unpleasant depends less on money or on health than it does on your ability to have fun.21. From Paragraph 1, we can infer that ______.A. very old people enjoy living with their relativesB. social services could have nothing to do with very old peopleC. very old people prefer to live alone so that they can have more personal freedomD. very old people are able to keep their rooms clean22. According to the passage, some social workers think that _______.A. health and safety are more important than personal freedomB. personal freedom is more important than health and safetyC. old people should have the idea of cleaning their roomsD. one should not take risks of dealing with old people23.In the author’s opinion, .A. the human body can’t be compared to a carB. the older a person ,the more care he needsC. too much emphasis has been put on old people’s valuesD. physical comfort, cleanness and order are necessary to the old24.The italicized word“it”in the last paragraph refers to _______.A. whether age is happy or unpleasantB. the conclusion you have come toC. one’s money or one’s healt hD. your talk to the old people25.The author thinks that _______.A. medical decisions for the old people should be left to the doctorsB. old people can enjoy a happy life only if they are very richC. the opinion that we should try every means possible to save old people is doubtfulD. it is always right to treat old people and push off deathWithout proper planning, tourism can cause problems. For example, too many tourists can crowd pubic places that are also enjoyed by the inhabitants of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the inhabitants become annoyed and unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country’s economy. It is important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects them. Tourism should help a country keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should also advance the well-being of local inhabitants.Too much tourism can be a problem. (88)If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the country’s economy can suffer. On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also lose money. It costs a great deal of money to build large hotels, airports, air terminals, first-class roads, and other support facilities needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major international-class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel will lose money.Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to hotel, electricity, sewers to handle waste, andwater. All of these support facilities cost money. If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost.26.The world “ inhabitants” in the first paragraph means .A. touristsB. passengersC. citizensD. population27. Too much tourism can cause all these problems EXCEPT______A. a bad effect on other industriesB. a change of tourists’ customsC. over-crowdedness of places of interestD. pressure on traffic28.It can be inferred from the text that .A. the author doesn’t like tourism developing so fastB. local people will benefit from tourist attractionC. other parts of a country’s economy won’t benefit from touristD. we can’t build too many support faciliti es29.The author thinks it is good for local people to know that tourism will .A. waste a lot of moneyB. weaken their economyC. help establish their customsD. help improve their life30. The main idea of the passage is .A. tourism burdens the local people with many problemsB. tourism needs a proper planningC. tourism must be supported by building and hotelsD. tourism can provide people more jobsThe universities have trained the intellectual pioneers of our civilization—the priests, the lawyers, the statesmen, the doctors, the men of science, and the men of letters。

江苏学位英语考试真题及答案2022

江苏学位英语考试真题及答案2022全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1The Big Tough English Test for Grown-UpsWow, you guys won't believe the crazy test I just took! It was the Jiangsu Postgraduate English Exam for 2022. I know, I know, I'm just a kid - why am I taking a big grown-up university test? Well, my super smart big sister is applying to get her Master's degree, and she needed someone to quiz her practice questions on. Since I'm the best little brother ever, I agreed to help her out.Man, that test was no joke! The reading passages were super long and had all these big fancy words I'd never heard before. My sister had to stop me like every five seconds to explain what things meant. There were passages about science, history, culture, you name it! I'd just be reading along, totally following the story, and then BOOM - I'd hit a word like "antiquated" or "quintessential" and it was like running into a brick wall. Good thing my sister was there to translate it into kid language for me.But you know what the hardest part was? The listening section! They played all these recordings of people talking, butthey had such strong accents and spoke so fast. Half the time I couldn't even tell if they were speaking English or some other language. My sister telld me they were from all over - America, Britain, Australia. I was like "Don't they all speak English?" Apparently not the same way we do!While the recordings played, I had to frantically write down what they were saying and answer comprehension questions. Let me tell you, that was a nightmare! My hand cramped up from writing so much, and I had a terrible time trying to spell words like "conscientious" and "querulously". I probably just wrote "konshinshus" and "qwerluisly" - I have no idea if those are even close to the real spellings. The worst was when they threw in random facts and names like "In 1824, so-and-so discovered yadda-yadda yadda..." How am I supposed to know all that?!The saving grace was that every section had 10-15 minutes of rest time between each part. You better believe I chugged about three juice boxes during those breaks. I needed all the energy I could get! After killing myself on the listening, we moved onto the writing section. That was... interesting, to say the least. The test gave prompts like "Some people think developing renewable energy is more important than space exploration. What is youropinion?" and then expected a multi-paragraph response with clear arguments and examples! As a fourth grader, my thoughts kinda went: "I don't know, energy is good? But space is cool too? Can I go outside and play now?"Despite my laughable attempt at an essay, we pushed onwards to the final section - speaking. For this part, my sister set up her laptop camera and I had to give a two-minute speech about a randomly picked topic from a basket. I drew a card that said "The advantages and disadvantages of social media." Are you kidding me?! You might as well have asked me to explain the theory of relativity. What do I know about social media besides everyone's always staring at their phones?I ended up just rambling about how Facebook is for old people and TikTok has fun videos but also lots of ads trying to get youto buy stuff. Probably not quite the level of insight they were looking for. There was another part where my sister showed me a picture and I had to describe it, but I've already forgotten what that one was about. Oops! When it was all over, I literally collapsed on the floor from exhaustion. My brain felt like flip into mashed potatoes after wrestling with so many big concepts and vocabulary words for hours. I can't imagine how mentally drained real test takers mustfeel! Just thinking about taking that entire exam for real makes me want to take a nap.My sister graded my weird ramblings using a test answer key she had, and it was... not pretty. Let's just say I wouldn't have gotten the scores needed to get into any self-respecting university. On the bright side, at least I got a ton of practice reading, writing, listening and speaking in English! Maybe I'll be extra prepared when I need to take important tests in the future. For now though, I'm sticking to multiplication tables and creative writing about my summer vacations. Anything beyond that level of academic torture is going to have to wait until I'm much, much older. Preferably when I have a family, a mortgage, and tons of free time to study - so maybe never? We'll see! Phew, I'm beat. Time for some video games to veg out...篇2The Jiangsu Postgraduate English Exam 2022Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm a 4th grader. My big sister Julia just took the really hard Jiangsu Postgraduate English Exam last year to try to get into a master's program. She studied soooo much for it. I'm going to tell you all about the exam questions and answers she showed me!The exam had four sections - listening, reading, writing, and translation. Julia said the listening part was the toughest. You had to listen really carefully to lectures, conversations, and other recordings and answer multiple choice questions. Some of the audio tracks were about science topics like black holes and others were just casual chats between friends. The questions asked specific details about what was said. Julia had to concentrate super hard! For the reading section, there were long academic passages on subjects like history, psychology, and environmental studies. The passages used a ton of big vocabulary words I didn't know. After each passage, you had to answer comprehension questions like "According to the passage, what is the main reason for..." or "The author implies that..." Julia showed me some of the question types like matching statements to paragraphs. Yikes, it looked really hard to understand those dense readings! Then there was a writing task where you had to write a whole essay responding to a prompt. One prompt Julia remembered was "Some people believe social media creates increased social isolation. Others feel it allows for greater connectivity. What is your perspective?" For a timed essay, you had to quickly outlineyour main ideas, provide clear examples, and have a logical flow. No easy feat when the exam timer is ticking! The last section was translation between English and Chinese. You had to translate passages accurately while keeping the same meaning, tone and style. Julia said some of the hardest parts were translating idioms, metaphors, and words with multiple meanings. In one sample, the English said "a penny for your thoughts" which has no literal penny meaning in the Chinese translation. Tricky stuff!Throughout the exam, Julia had to really demonstrate her English vocabulary breadth and mastery of grammar rules. She said managing her time was also crucial to get through all the sections.I saw Julia's scores after she finished and she did pretty well overall! She was super relieved when it was over. In some sections like the translation part, she wasn't sure how she did. Other parts like the reading comprehension used question types she had practiced a ton for.Julia worked sooo diligently to prepare for months and months. She took practice tests, attended prep courses, and worked through previous exam papers. All that hard work paid off!Even though I'm just a kid, I could see how challenging and comprehensive the Jiangsu Postgraduate English Exam was. It really tested Julia's English abilities across all skills - listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, and translation. She had to know academic concepts, understand different accents, and write at a scholarly level.I have so much respect for Julia and all graduate candidates who take this intense exam. It's no wonder she celebrated big time when она получила высокие баллы! Oops, I mean, when she got a high score! Even though I mix up my Russian and English sometimes, I can appreciate how difficult it is to master a foreign language.Maybe I'll work just as hard as Julia did and be able to pass my own English exams years from now. But Wow, the Jiangsu test made me realize I have a loooong way to go before I can call myself truly fluent! I'll keep studying and improving my English skills little by little.Julia said the exam process, while grueling, helped prepare her for the rigor of graduate-level coursework and research. By conquering this huge milestone, she proved she can understand complex topics, synthesize information, and convey ideas at an academic level. Yeah Julia!Well, that's all I know about my sister's experience with the crazy difficult Jiangsu Postgraduate English Exam. I couldn't have answered those listening comprehension questions or written an essay for the test prompts. At least not yet! Maybe if I follow Julia's footsteps of hard work and perseverance, I can ace an English exam like that one day too. But I'm heading outside to ride bikes and play for now - no more studying tonight! Let me know if you have any other questions!篇3Here's an article about the Jiangsu Postgraduate Entrance English Exam 2022 with questions and answers, written in English from a primary school student's perspective, around 2000 words long:The Super Difficult English Exam I Had to TakeHi friends! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a primary school student here in Jiangsu Province, China. Today I want to tell you about this really hard English exam that all the older students have to take. It's called the Jiangsu Postgraduate Entrance English Exam and it happens every year. My big brother Xiaozhang had to take it last year when he was trying to get into a Master's program. He studied so hard for months! The exam is entirely in English and it tests how well you can read, write, listen and speak in English. From what Xiaozhang told me, it's super duper difficult. There are different sections like reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing an essay, and even an oral test where you have to speak English out loud. Can you imagine how nervous Xiaozhang must have been?I managed to find one of the past exam papers from 2022 and I'll share some of the questions with you. But be warned, they are very very hard! I could barely understand them.Reading ComprehensionThere was this long reading passage about climate change and environmental issues. After reading it, you had to answer questions like:According to the passage, what are three major causes of global warming? The author mentions "carbon capture technology". Explain what this is in your own words.Which stance does the author seem to take regarding the future impact of climate change?Just reading the questions made my head spin! The vocabulary was so advanced. How are students supposed tounderstand such difficult readings and concepts entirely in English? My brother is super smart, so I can't even imagine how hard this section was for him.VocabularyThen there was a vocabulary section testing English word meanings and usage. It had questions like:Choose the correct definition of the word "obsolete".Use the word "appease" in a sentence of your own. There were so many infrequent and academic words that I had never even heard before! I don't think I could have gotten a single one of those vocabulary questions right.WritingBut possibly the most challenging part was the writing section, where they made you write a whole essay or article of 400+ words in English! One of the essay prompts from 2022 was:"Scientific and technological progress has caused both benefits and drawbacks for modern society." Discuss both aspects and provide your perspective on achieving a balanced approach. Are you kidding me? I can barely write 400 words in my native Chinese, let alone crafting a complex analytical essay in English about the pros and cons of technology. I'm just a little kid still learning basic grammar and vocabulary. Something like that would be impossible for me, and it was really hard even for my brother who has studied English for many years.Oral TestLastly, there was even a speaking section called the Oral Test where they made you respond to questions out loud in English! Some examples were:Describe a happy childhood memory in detail.8 ) Give your views on the importance of protecting cultural heritage sites.Just imagining having to speak continuously in perfect English about random topics already makes me sweat! My pronunciation is so bad and I would definitely freeze up from nervousness. Hats off to any students who could smoothly express themselves in English in this oral exam.Well, those were just a few examples from the 2022 Jiangsu Postgraduate Entrance English Exam. It looked extremely complicated, stressful, and way way too difficult for a youngstudent like me. My brother studied day and night to prepare and he barely passed. I have so much respect for any students taking on such an incredibly challenging English exam!If you're curious, here are the answers my brother gave me for those sample questions:Three major causes: burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, industrializationTechnology to capture carbon emissions and store them undergroundThe author seems to take a pessimistic view of climate change's consequencesDefinition of obsolete: No longer used or useful, outmodedSample sentence: "To appease the angry crowd, the politician promised reforms."Essay Sample Response (abbreviated):"While scientific progress has undoubtedly brought major benefits like longer lifespans and technological conveniences, it has also caused concerning issues like environmental damage and erosion of privacy... A balanced approach is needed thatmitigates the drawbacks through regulation and ethical oversight while still allowing innovation..."Childhood Memory: "One of my happiest memories was when I went camping with my family in the mountains and saw a beautiful waterfall..."Cultural Heritage: "Protecting cultural heritage sites is crucial because they are irreplaceable pieces of our ancestral history that educate us about our roots and identity..."Just reading my brother's answers makes my head spin. I can't even imagine having to come up with all those thoughtful responses entirely in English under time pressure! I guess that's why they call it one of the most difficult English exams around.Anyway friends, that's my experience learning about the crazy difficult Jiangsu Postgraduate English Entrance Exam. I have a whole new level of respect for my brother and any students capable of taking such a high-level comprehensive English test. For now, I'll just focus on my times tables and simple English nursery rhymes. But who knows, maybe one day I'll be taking that beast of an exam too! Wish me luck!篇4The Big Scary English TestOh boy, I have to tell you about the Jiangsu Postgraduate Entrance English Exam I took last year! It was super duper hard. I'm just a kid but I like to dream big, so I decided to take the test to get ready for going to a great university someday. The test had all kinds of crazy difficult parts. There was listening, reading, writing, translation - you name it! I thought my head was going to explode trying to understand and answer everything. But I'm a tough cookie, so I powered through and did my best. I'll share some of the questions with you so you can see how insanely hard it was!Listening SectionIn the listening part, they played all these conversations and lectures and stuff. Then they asked a bunch of questions to see if you understood what was said. Things like:Question 1: What is the main purpose of the speaker?A) To describe a historical eventB) To criticize a political policyC) To introduce a scientific theoryD) To promote a new productI guessed C because it sounded like the guy was talking about some crazy science stuff I didn't understand. Who knows if I got it right!Question 2: What will the speakers likely discuss next?A) Enrollment requirementsB) Housing optionsC) Travel arrangementsD) Research methodsFor this one, I chose D because it seemed like they were setting up to talk about some research. But it was just a wild guess!Reading SectionThen there were all these stupidly long reading passages about things like biology, economics, history. The passages were so boring that I could barely stay awake. After each one, they asked comprehension questions like:Question 1: According to the passage, which of the following is true of photosynthesis?A) It occurs in plant cellsB) It involves the creation of oxygenC) It requires carbon dioxideD) All of the aboveWell duh, I know photosynthesis has to do with plants and making oxygen and carbon dioxide stuff. So I picked D for all of the above. Easy peasy!Question 2: The author's main purpose is toA) Argue against an economic theoryB) Explain the basics of macroeconomicsC) Analyze the impacts of a recessionD) Critique a governmental policyUmm... I have no clue what macroeconomics even means. So for this one I just filled in a bubble at random. Oops!Writing SectionThe writing section was where I really struggled. They asked us to write an essay responding to a prompt. The prompt I got was:"Some people believe that competition for high grades motivates students to excel, while others think it creates anunhealthy environment in schools. Which view do you agree with? Develop your position with relevant examples and evidence."Are you kidding me?! I'm just a kid. How am I supposed to know whether competition is good or bad? All I know is that I hate taking tests and having to compete against my friends. I pretty much just winged it and wrote something like:"I do not like when me and my friends have to compete against each other for good grades. It makes me sad and stressed out. I want school to be fun, not super competitive and difficult all the time. We are just kids and should be able to learn at our own pace and not be so worried about getting the Best grades ever."Yeah, probably not going to win any awards for that sad little essay. But hey, I tried!Translation SectionAnd finally, there was this crazy translation part. They gave us a passage in English and we had to translate the whole thing into Chinese. And then they gave us another passage in Chinese that we had to translate to English. My tiny little brain was ready to explode at this point. The English to Chinese one was about some famous scientist, with sentences like:"Marie Curie's groundbreaking discoveries in the field of radioactivity changed the face of modern science and opened up new frontiers of physics and chemistry."You have got to be kidding me! I'm 8 years old. How am I supposed to translate academic mumbo jumbo like that?! I just tried to say it simply:"马里·居里在放射性方面的革命性发现改变了现代科学的面貌,并为物理学和化学开辟了新的前沿领域。

Also, some studentsdo part-time jobs to supportthemselves. They are said to workthrough college. However, it is not easy to findjobs which are suitable forstudents. Some jobs requiringlong hours of tedious word undertough conditions may do harm totheir health. Besides, some jobsmay expose them to the negativeaspects of society--dishonesty andcorruption. Therefore, students shouldtake a second thought in decidingwhether they should do part-timejobs or that kind of jobs theyshould choose. If they luckyenough to take a good job, it willbenefit them enormously.Otherwise, it may waste theirtime and their energy.1The Pleasures and Pains ofChildhoodChildhood is time when thereare few responsibilities to makelife difficult. If a child has goodparents, he is fed, looked afterand loved, whatever he may do. Itis improbable that he will everagain in his life be given so muchwithout having to do anything isreturn. In addition, life is alwayspresenting new things to thechild--things that have lost theirinterest for older people becausethey are too well-know. A childfinds pleasure in playing in therain, or in the snow. His first visitto the seaside is a marvelousadventure. But a child has his pains:he isnot so free to do as he wishes ashe thinks older people are: he iscontinually being told not to dothings, or being punished forwhat he has done wrong. His lifeis therefore not perfectly happy.2How to Behave in anInterviewIn order to make a goodimpression during a job interview, you need to prepare yourself forit. They are flocking there to avoid people--in the city, wherever you look, it is people, people, people. It's not strange for them to complain about the living conditions in the city. It takes ages for a bus to get to you because the traffic on the roads has virtually come to a standstill. The subways which leave or arrive every few minutes are packed: an endless procession of human sardine tins. All the simple, good thinks of life like sunshine and fresh air are at a premium. Tall buildings block out the sum. The flow of traffic goes on continuously and the noise never stops.Decades of years ago, people ware crazy about crowding into the city. Now more and more people believe that only a madman would choose to live in a large modern city.8Career HoppingToday, growing numbers ofmen and women are changingcareers or getting second starts incareers that have greater appeal tothem. Many of those who findthat their work is unsatisfactoryretrain themselves for a differentoccupation.Job changes and careers shiftsoccur at all ages. It is estimatedthat as many as one out of fourmale workers between the ages oftwenty and twenty-five changetheir lines of work. About halfthat number do so between theages of twenty-five and forty-four.Some married women combinechild-rearing responsibilities withnew career lines.Motives for changing careersvary widely, but many peoplemove because they feel boredwith the dull routine. For some, asecond start grows out of therealization that what they wantout of life is not what they aredoing, and they decide to do whatthey enjoy. Most go back toschool to get the training theyneed to make the shifts.9The Young and the OldWhen the young man startsto earn his own living, hebecomes free from discipline ofschool and parents; but at thesame time he is forced to acceptresponsibilities. He can no longerexpect others to pay for his food, his clothes, and his room, but hasto work if he wants to livecomfortably. If he spends mostof his time playing about in theway that he used to as a child, hewill go hungry. And if he breaksthe laws of society as he used tobreak the laws of his parents, hemay go to prison。
