"The short answer is yes, but there is more about the myths of Scottish "skirts."The "skirt” that Scots men(苏格兰男子)sometimes wear is called a kilt. It is part of the traditional dress of Scotland. The kilt is clearly very famous across the world. It seems that everybody has heard of it , and that most people have seen a picture of a man wearing onePeople,s knowledge and ideas about Scotsmen wearing these funny kilts come from films and television. Every time people from other countries ask about the kilt , they mention Mel Gibson,s film , Brave heart. In many countries, there are television programmes about Scotland. These programmes always include information or images of men in kilts.Of course, in Scotland, you will often see the kilt. The reality is, though ,that you will most commonly see it in tourist areas. The main streets and tourist areas of Scotland always have a Scotsman wearing a kilt and all tourist shops in the country sell kilts in different colours. But kilts are not something that Scottish people see every day. Kilts are for special occasions, such as weddings, funerals and other big and important events. Scotsmen do not put on their kilt just to buy a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread at the local supermarket The reason for this may be that kilts are very expensive. When a man wears a kilt, he normally wears it with a special shirt , jacket, socks and shoes. This is obviously not cheap. In fact , an average kilt outfit (全套月艮装)costs around £ 500.11.According to the text , Scotsmen .A.like foreign cultureB. sometimes wear kiltsC. enjoy talking about kiltsD. often visit foreign countries12.Mel Gibson is probably a .A. painterB. musicianC. movie starD. fashion designer13.In Scotland, kilts are more often seen .A. in tourist shopsB. in public schoolsC. on the stageD. at local markets14.People do not wear kilts every day probably because of theirA. funny designsB.dull coloursC.poor qualityD.high prices15.This text is mainly about the .A. history of kiltsB. production of kiltsC. myths of kiltsD. styles of kilts第三部分:概括段落大意和补全句子第16~25题每题1分共10分)阅读下面短文请完成短文后的2项测试任务:(1)从第16~20题后所给的6个选项中为 第①~⑤段每段选择1个正确的小标题;⑵从第21~25题后所给的6个选项中选择5个 正确选项,分别完成每个句子。

全国2015年10月高等教育自学考试英语(二)试题和答案课程代码:00015第一部分:阅读判断Black FridayEveryone likes to shop for gifts for the holiday season, but few people know the history of holiday shopping. While people have heard of Black Friday, most do not know its origins. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving(感恩节). On this day most retail stores open their doors very early-some as early as 4 am. In addition, they provide their customers with great discounts on products. With this in mind, it is clear to see why so many shoppers buy many of their Christmas gifts on Black Friday.Black Friday is not as old as many people think. In fact, it is believed that the first Black Friday was held in the 1970s in the USA. It was a day when stores decided to mark the start of the holiday season. In order to draw more customers, they offered great discounts. All products sold very well. This large success resulted in the name Black Friday. It was so named because the stores were "in the black". This financial term means the stores made a lot of money. However, it was not until around 2002 that Black Friday really started to gain in popularity. Today in the USA, countless advertisers proudly announce their Black Friday sales. They hope to attract shoppers into their stores.Black Friday is a day when many shoppers in the USA go out and buy gifts, even though Christmas Eve is still a more popular day to shop. Thanks to the Internet, it is now possible to get some excellent Black Friday deals online. So if you don't want to get to the stores by 4 am, this is the perfect way to still get items at reduced prices.1.Many people know the history of Black Friday.A.TrueB.FalseC.Not Given2.Most stores open their doors for business very early on Black Friday. You have to change schools and get used to your new home. But you can always go back to that city to visit. When you move to another country, things are different. However, difficult as it may be, the experience can be rewarding. My dad, a Brazilian, is really funny and can make friends quickly. My mom, a Swiss, is usually quiet and a bit shy. During my childhood we visited Switzerland every year. Many people ask me where I prefer to live: Brazil or Switzerland. It's really hard to answer because I love both countries. Brazil is a big country, with many states and people. There are multiple dialects and many types of foods. People here have beautiful smiles and are always happy, even if they are poor. In the south the climate is cool, but in the north it's hot and humid.Switzerland, on the other hand, is small but beautiful and clean. There are four languages in that tiny country. People there are very different from Brazilians: they are wealthy, independent, and organized. The food is delicious, and of course, the famous Swiss chocolate is great, and the climate is dry and cool.I love both countries. In Switzerland, it's pleasant, calm, and peaceful everywhere. Just as a high IQ can predict top test scores, a high EQ can predict success in social and emotional situations. EQ helps us build strong relationships, make good decisions, and deal with difficult situations.4.One way to think about EQ is that it is part of being people-smart. These programmes always include information or images of men in kilts.Of course,in Scotland, you will often see the kilt. The reality is,though, that you will most commonly see it in tourist areas. The main streets and tourist areas of Scotland always have a Scotsman wearing a kilt and all tourist shops in the country sell kilts in different colours. But kilts are not something that Scottish people see every day.Kilts are for special occasions, such as weddings, funerals and other big and important events.Scotsmen do not put on their kilt just to buy a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread at the local supermarketThe reason for this may be that kilts are very expensive. When a man wears a kilt,he normally wears it with a special shirt jacket, socks and shoes. This is obviously not cheap. In fact, an average kilt outfit(全套服装)costs around£500.11.According to the text,ScotsmenA.like foreign cultureB.sometimes wear kiltsC.enjoy talking about kiltsD.often visit foreign countries12.Mel Gibson is probably aA.painterB.musicianC.movie starD.fashion designer13.In Scotland, kilts are more often seenA.in tourist shopsB.in public schoolsC.on the stageD.at local markets14.People do not wear kilts every day probably because of theirA.funny designsB.dull coloursC.poor qualityD.high prices15.This text is mainly about theA.history of kiltsB.production of kiltsC.myths of kiltsD.styles of kilts非选择题区第三部分:概括段落大意和补全句子(第16~25题,每题1分,共10分)阅读下面短文,请完成短文后的2项测试任务:(1)从第16~20题后所给的6个选项中为第①~⑤段每段选择1个正确的小标题;(2)从第21~25题后所给的6个选项中选择5个正确选项,分别完成每个句子。

Being "Cool" in Middle SchoolA new study shows that gentle and quiet kids in middle school will grow up to rule. Or, at least, they'll live healthier and more productive lives than the "cool" kids will. The study looked at 13-year-olds who acted old for their age by having "cool" behavior, such as early romantic relationships. They were seen as "cool" and popular kids. But as they grew up, things changed. The study found that these kids tended to have problems with drugs and relationships by their early 20s. Their behavior was no longer linked with popularity. Instead, they were thought to be less socially skilled by their peers. Besides, the average "cool" kids, by age 22, did more poorly than the average kids in the study. They had a 45 percent greater rate of problems due to drugs and alcohol. They also had a 22 percent greater rate of criminal behavior. The study also found that these kids failed to develop important life skills. They spent so much time trying to seem cool. They didn't develop the skills needed for meaningful friendships. The study followed 86 male and 98 female middle school students for a 10-year period. It has some surprising findings. In particular, the study notes that the so-called "cool" behavior is a predictor (预示) of future problems with drugs and alcohol. In fact, it is a better predictor than drag and alcohol use in middle school. However, one conclusion of the study is welcome. Researchers said that parents shouldn't worry too much if their kids don't seem that popular. If a kid prefers to spend Saturday nights at home watching a movie or reading instead of going out with friends, that is not a cause for concern. Many "uncool" kids, they said, do much better later on than the popular kids do.1. Gentle kids are less healthy when they grow up.A. TrueB. FalseC. Not Given2. Booking Online and Saving the EnvironmentWhen you are looking to book a holiday, it is unlikely that you will think about how green your booking decision is, but it is something that you shouldthink about. By“green”we mean the impact on the environment. When looking to book a holiday, you will probably find that you are faced with two main decisions. The first is to go into a travel agency, pick up brochures(宣传册),read through them and go back with just one and book with the travel directly or over the phone. The second is to go onto the Internet. The Internet holds many advantages over the travel agencies. The main one is convenience. You can go online to look at holidays at any time of the day. The travel agents, however, are usually very busy at times when people can actually go, i.e. lunch hours or at the weekend. You could use the telephone, but you wouldn 't be able to see the pictures or the details of the holidays, so you would probably be sent a brochure anyway. There are websites on the Internet that make shopping for holiday deals much easier. These websites are known as price comparison websites. They search through lots of different tour operators, and the results are displayed on one page, from which you can choose.Compared with the travel agencies, booking online is greener. The piles of brochures are definitely not green, and the amount of unnecessary paper used can't be good for the environment. In the days of the Internet, there is really no need for such a large amount of paper to be wasted. So booking online will not only save you time and effort, it will do a lttle bit towards saving the environment, too!1.When planning holidays, few people will think about being greenA. TrueB. FalseC.
