洛阳市2018-2019高一上学期期末英语试题和答案

洛阳市2018-2019高一上学期期末英语试题和答案

洛阳市2018-2019学年第一学期期末考试高一英语试卷参考答案AWe always knew our daughter Kendall was going to be a performer of some sort. She entertained people in our small town by putting on shows when she was only three or four. She sang like a little angelWhen Kendall was five, she was clearing her throat frequently. We took her to our local hospital where she was diagnosed with Tourette`s Syndrome(图雷特综合征)It was pretty destructive because other children made fun of her, and sadly, even a teacher laughed at her. She only had one or two friends, but that was okay because they were - and continue to be -real, the kind who stick by her, no matter what. Through all this Kendall continued to sing and entertain. Remarkably, her tics(抽搐)disappeared when she sang. When Kendall was sixteen, we thought she was pretty much out of the woods. However, a terrible accident happened. At a birthday party, Kendall hopped (H t )on a friend for a piggyback ride. Kendall few over his back and landed on the Moor-on her neck. An ambulance rushed her to the hospital where she spent the next week, paralyzed( )from the neck down. However, her biggest concern wasn't whether she would walk again, but whether she would be able to audition (i T)for American Idol. Her friend brought a microphone and every day, Kendall tried hard to practise singing. It was more important for her to pick up that mic than a spoon or fork.On the day Kendall auditioned for American Idol -only three months after her accident -we cried tears of joy. And our tears turned into shouts when she was given a golden ticket to Hollywood.Kendall is eighteen now, living every day to its fullest and having some good success.21. How did some of Kendalls friends react to her disease?A. They made fun of her.B. They laughed at her.C. They were always there for her.D. They gave whatever she wanted.22 What's the authors attitude towards Kendall?A. She believes Kendall can make it big some day.B. She worries Kendall 's illness will worsenC. She feels sorry for not having found a better treatment.D. She is always keen on charity.23. In what order is the passage developed?A. PlaceB. TimeC. SpaceD. Importance24. From the passage, we can infer Kendall is a girlA. with a strong mindB. who has long-time fansC. popular among classmatesD. who prefers music to sportsBArt is very important to kids. Here are some reasons:Art helps children with their physical development. For example, when kids work with play dough(R K ) they can lean to better control their fingers. Drawing helps develop hand and finger muscles that are needed to properly hold and use a pencil.Art activities also help children`s social and emotional development. Children learn about themselves and others through art activities. Taking part in art activities really helps them build self-esteem(自尊). It teaches them about their uniqueness while allowing them to express happiness, joy and-pride.Finally, art is important because it allows children to be creative. Through takingpart in art activities, they 'll learn to think and design things and make them.Since art is so important to kids, parents should make it an everyday activity. Luckily, they can do that. Even if you don' t have a lot of things that help kids take part in art activities at home, it ' s really easy to set up a low-cost easel (画架) in your- home. For toddles children who have only recently learnt to walk would want to include very basic things such as finger point, play dough and fat crayons. For preschoolers(children who are no longer babies but are not yet old enough to go to school), you'll want to add things like paint brushes, an easel, glue, tape and scissors. As the kids get older and start exploring their creativity, parents will start -adding more things to the art supplies. It's extremely important for parents to make art activities open-ended because we don' t want to limit children`s creativity. Children have their own thoughts and ideas of how things should look and they come to art with their own special experience. Open-ended art activities are good for children`s development abilities. They build feelings of independence, confidence and eagerness to learn through open-ended activities.25. How is art helpful to children?A. It makes them love schoolB. It encourages them to do housework.C. It improves their gradesD. It helps them develop physically26. What can we learn from Paragraph 5?A. Parents should prepare everything for art at homeB. Toddlers need glue, tape and scissors for art activities.C, It's not hard to get children to join in art activitiesD. A low-cost easel is not good for toddlers27. In the authors opinion, open-ended art activities areA. just suitable for preschoolersB. useful to everyoneC. limited to children's creativityD. good for kids in many ways28. For whom is the passage intendedA. TeachersB. ParentsC. StudentsD. ArtistsCLondon 's Kew Gardens reopens its Temperate House, the world 's largest Victorian glasshouse. For the first time in its history, the Grade I-listed structure was restored to bare metal and modernized. More than 5, 280 liters of paint was used, enough to cover four football fields, an 15, 000 panes of glass was replaced. The house opened to the public on Saturday, May 5.The large greenhouse is now home to an arranged collection of different plants from areas of temperate( 温带的)climates around the world - areas sometimes described as the Goldilocks zone of the planet, where plants are safe from coldness. These include some of the rarest(稀有的) and most threatened species(物种),for which the botanic(植物的) garden is a final shelter(避护所). Among the more than1,00 different species of temperate plants is the extremely rare South African cycad Encephalartos woodji, a plant that has disappeared from the wild and is now found in botanic gardens and private collections. This tree has been named "the loneliest plant in the world ", because only male plants remain -each a clone of the specimen at Kew, which was collected in the middle of the 19th century. Some plants contain both male and female parts, but this species requires a female to produce seeds.Lead gardener Scott Taylor, who is overseeing the Temperate House collection stressed the importance of having an insurance population of one of the worlds mostendangered plant.“We have an important job to keep all of these things going, "Mr. Taylor said. "For some plants, they are down to a few in the wild -a wildfire, an earthquake, and they`re gone”29. Where may you find South African cycad Encephalartos woodji?A. In any of London's gardensB. In a personal collection of temperate plantsC. In the laboratory of cloning plantsD. In the wild in London30. Why does Scott Taylor think the trees are endangered?A. There aren't such male trees any moreB. There aren't female trees any moreC. Because of the overhunting of the treesD. Because of the difficulty in producing.31. What would be the best title for the passage?A. The Grade I-listed Structure Was CompletedB. The World's Largest Glasshouse ReopensC. How to Build a GreenhouseD. How to Protect the WildlifeDPlaying video games for hours on end may prepare your child to become a laparoscopic(腹腔镜检査的) doctor one day, a new study has shown. Reorganization of the brain's cortical(皮质的,皮层的) network in young men with experience of playing video games gives them an advantage not only in playing the games but also in performing other tasks requiring visuomotor (视觉眼肌运动)skills. Researchers from the Centre for Vision Research at York University in Canada compared a group of 13 young men in their twenties, who had played video games at least four hours a week for the past three years, to a group of 13 young men without that experience. The subjects were placed in a functional magnetic resonanceimaging(FMRI) machine and asked to complete a series of increasingly difficult visuomotor tasks, such as using a joystick or looking one way while reaching another way.By using high resolution brain imaging(MRI), we were able to actually measure which brain areas were activated at a given time during the experiment, " said Lauren Sergio, associate professor. "We tested how the skills learned from video game experience can transfer over to new tasks, rather than just looking at brain activity while the subject plays a videoThe finding that using visuomotor skills can reorganize how the brain works offers hope for future research into the problems experienced by Azheimer's patients, who struggle to complete the simplest visuomotor tasksLead author Joshua Granek added that, in future, it would be interesting to study if the brain pattern changes are affected by the type of video games a player has used and the actual total number of hours he has played, and to study female video gamers, whose brain patterns in earlier studies were different from those of males.32. What do the underlined words The subjects " in Paragraph 1 refer to?A. The 13 young gamersB. The 13 young men not interested in gamesC. The people involved in the studyD. Those having trouble with visuomotor tasks.33. What is different for video gamers according to the passage?A. The lifestyle.B. The names of the gamesC. The study they join inD. The work of brain areas.34. How did the researchers carry out the research?A. By studying how experienced skills work on new tasks.B. Only by watching the brain activity.C. By playing video gamesD. By reorganizing how brain network works at different times35. What does the passage mainly talk about?A. The advantages of playing video gamesB. The effect of watching videosC. 河南省洛阳市第一高级中学2017-2018学年高三上学期周练(8.14)英语试题 Word版含答案

洛阳市第一高级中学2017-2018学年高三英语周练第Ⅰ卷第一部分听力(略)第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

AThe Enigma (谜)of BeautyThe search for beauty spans centuries and continents. Paintings of Egyptians dating back over 4, 000 years show both men and women painting their nails and wearing makeup. In 18th-century France, wealthy noblemen wore large wigs (假发)of long, white hair to make themselves attractive. Today, people continue to devote a lot of time and money to their appearance. There is at least one good reason for the desire to be attractive: beauty is power. Studies suggest that good-looking people make more money, get called on more often in class, and are regarded as friendlier. But what exactly is beauty? It's difficult to describe it clearly, and yet we know it when we see it. And our awareness of it may start at a very early age. In one set of studies, six-month-old babies were shown a series of photographs. The faces on the pictures had been rated for attractiveness by a group of college students. In the studies, the babies spent more time looking at the attractive faces than the unattractive ones. The idea that even babies can judge appearance makes perfect sense to many researchers. In studies by psychologists, men consistently showed a preference for women with larger eyes, fuller lips, and a smaller nose and chin while women prefer men with large shoulders and a narrow waist. According to scientists, the mind unconsciously tells men and women that these traits —the full lips, clear skin, strong shoulders —equal health and genetic well-being.Not everyone thinks the same way, however. “Our hardwiredness can be changed by all sorts of expectations —mostly cultural,” says C. Loring Brace, an anthropologist atthe University of Michigan. What is considered attractive in one culture might not be in another. Look at most Western fashion magazines: the women on the pages are thin. But is this “perfect” body type for women worldwide? Scientists'answer is no; what is considered beautiful is subjective and varies around the world. They found native peoples in southeast Peru preferred shapes regarded overweight in Western cultures. For better or worse, beauty plays a role in our lives. But it is extremely difficult to describe exactly what makes one person attractive to another. Although there do seem to be certain physical traits considered universally appealing, it is also true that beauty does not always keep to a single, uniform standard. Beauty really is, as the saying goes, in the eye of the beholder.21. People's ideas about beauty ________.A. have existed since ancient timesB. can be easily describedC. have little influence on a person's successD. are based upon strict standard22. In Paragraph 3, the babies in the study ________.A. were rated for their appearanceB. were entered in a beauty contestC. were shown photos of a group of college studentsD. were able to tell attractive faces from unattractive ones23. The underlined word “traits” in Paragraph 4 probably means ________.A. qualitiesB. measurementsC. judgmentsD. standards24. We can learn from the passage that ________.A. the ideas of beauty vary as people grow upB. the search for beauty is rooted in lack of confidenceC. the standards for beauty are based on scientific researchesD. the understanding of beauty depends on cultural backgroundsBIn the Middle Ages in Europe, theater was an important part of civic, economic and religiouslife. During this period after the fall of Roman civilization, many cities were destroyed. Southern and Western Europe, famous for its agriculture, became increasingly more agricultural. After several hundred years, many towns appeared again. The Roman Catholic Church took over religion, education and politics. What remained of theater was mostly on the Greek and Roman performing arts.Theater was reborn as liturgical(礼拜式的)dramas. It was written in Latin and dealing with biblical(圣经)stories which would be performed by church members. Then there came local dramas spoken in common language not Latin. They were more wonderful one-act dramas taking place in town squares or other parts of the city. There were three types of local dramas. Mystery or cycle plays were short dramas based on biblical stories organized into historical cycles. Miracle plays dealt with the lives of the great. Morality(道德的)plays taught a lesson through characters standing for good or bad qualities. Secular plays in this period existed, but religious drama in the Middle Ages is mostly remembered today. As the Middle Ages ended, the number of religious theatres became small as the church weakened and more secular qualities won over religious theaters.25. According to the passage, what does "secular plays"mean here?A. Plays that deal with the lives of the great.B. Plays that taught a lesson.C. Plays based on biblical stories.D. Plays that are not connected with the church.26. Why did religious theatres become less important as the Middle Ages came to an end?A. People were not interested in them any longer.B. The church was not as important as what it had been.C. People liked new plays.D. The stories of religious theatres were outdated.27. According to the passage, why did religious theatres take over in the Middle Ages?A. People preferred religious theatres to other ones.B. There were no other types of theatres.C. The church played an important part in people’s life.D. The quality of religious theatres was better than that of other theatres.28. What would be the best title for the passage?A. European dramasB. Religious dramasC. Religious theatres in the Middle AgesD. Secular dramas in the Middle AgesCThere are two types of people in the world. Although they have equal degree of health and wealth and other comforts of life, one becomes happy and the other becomes unhappy. This arises from the different ways in which they consider things, persons, events and the resulting effects upon their minds.People who are to be happy fix their attention on the convenience of things: the pleasant parts of conversation, the well prepared dishes, the goodness of the wine and the fine weather. They enjoy all the cheerful things. Those who are to be unhappy think and speak only of the opposite things. Therefore, they are continually dissatisfied. By their remarks, they sour the pleasure of society, hurt many people, and make themselves disagreeable everywhere. If this turn of mind was founded in nature, such unhappy persons would be the more to be pitied. The intention of criticizing and being disliked is perhaps taken up by imitation. It grows into a habit, unknown to its possessors. The habit may be strong, but it may be cured when those who have it realize its bad effects on their interests and tastes.I hope this little warning may be of service to them, and help them change this habit.Although in fact it is chiefly an act of the imagination, it has serious results in life since it brings on deep sorrow and bad luck. Those people hurt many others; nobody loves them, and no one treats them with more than the most common politeness and respect. This frequently puts them in bad temper and draws them into arguments. If they aim at getting some advantages in social position or fortune, nobody wishes them success. Nor will anyone start a step or speak a word to favor their hopes. If they bring on themselves public objections, no one will defend or excuse them, and many will join to criticize their wrongdoings. These should change this bad habit and be pleased with what is pleasing, without worrying needlessly about themselves and others. If they do not, it will be good for others to avoid any contact with them. Otherwise, it can be disagreeable and sometimes very inconvenient, especially when one becomes mixed up in their quarrels.29. People who are unhappy _______.A. always consider things differently from othersB. always discover the unpleasant side of certain thingsC. usually misunderstand what others think or sayD. usually are affected by the results of certain things30. The phrase “sour the pleasure of society” most nearly means “_______”.A. makes others unhappyB. has a good taste with social lifeC. tend to scold others openlyD. enjoy the pleasure of life31. We can conclude from the passage that _______.A. we should pity all such unhappy peopleB. such unhappy people are dangerous to social lifeC. people can get rid of the habit of unhappinessD. unhappy people can not understand happy personsDTime for Kids (TFK)gets the great news on the coolest toys for 2014 at the 111th American International Toy Fair. What’s four days long, bigger than se ven football fields, and filled with thousands of toys? It’s Toy Fair 2014!Each year, hundreds of toy companies from across the country come together in New York City. All kinds of products are shown as a way to know what’s to come in the new year. This y ear’s trends include oversize toys. “In 2014, everything is really big and really out there,” says Adrienne Appell, a toy-trends expert.Toy Fair is the largest toy trade show in the Western Hemisphere (西半球). Toy-store buyers go to the event to decide which toys they may want to sell during the holiday season. Members of the media, like TFK, go to the fair to report back on all the cool trends. Unfortunately, Toy Fair is not open to the public. This year’s Toy Fair was the biggest in its 111-year history. More than 1,000 toy companies showed products from simple card games to high-tech robots. “Larger Than Life” was a Toy Fair favorite. This trend is all about big toys with a big play value.Though it is all fun and games at Toy Fair, we saw lots of products making a push towardseducation, with STEAM. Although you can be lonely, you can help yourself fit in by being friendly. Even if you are nervous, try to smile, say hello and ask questions. Here are two places where you might meet friends in a new school:● The classroom: Look around you; is there anyone who you can talk to? Do you take part in group activities in class? If so, try to join a new group every time.● Playground: Most schools offer many team sports. Try to join these sports. Some kids worry about their teachers when they start a new school. Even if the teachers are supportive, it can take some time to adjust to new rules or ways of teaching. They want their children to have more tha n they did and have better lives. The problem is, most childre n don’t connect the things parents buy with the labor that pays for them. Children have more, but our culture——and television in particular——teaches them that more is never enough. Young children see their parents as all-mighty(万能的). If parents fail to provide what they want, it must be a matt er of choice. It’s normal for children, even school-age ones, not to be able to take another person’s point of vie w. For example, they may dislike their parents for working lon g hours, and not realize that the parent would also rather hav e more time at home.In addition to giving presents, we have to find other ways to e xpress love and create memories. Reading or telling stories to gether, making music and playing games are all ways for fami lies to spend time without spending money. Traditions like rea ding favorite poems and even snowball fights all serve the pur pose(达到目的). Most importantly, as parents, we have to learn to hold b ack some energy from our tiring jobs. When we’re present for our children, we ourselves become the presents we want to gi ve.11. 【答案】Dear David,
How are you recently? I miss you very much. I am writing to share with you an unforgettable experience.
Our school held a party to welcome the new year of 2018 in our school hall on the last day of the year 2017. All the teachers and students attended the party, and some of them gave some wonderful performances. We danced and sang along to the songs. Although it was cold outside, we felt warm in the hall. Besides, we raised some money for the poor children in the mountain area. We all enjoyed ourselves.
Write back to me and best wishes for you.
Yours, 1。
