When things were hard, I would stand by the window and wave to the passengers who looked up. The strange looks made me laugh and stress was washed away.Co-workers began to take an interest in my behavior. They would stand from view, watch the reactions I received, and laugh along. Late afternoon was the best time — rush hour traffic filled the overpass with cars and buses. It didn’t take long to attract a group of staffs who passed the window every day and looked up at the strange waving man. After a while, waving became boring, so I changed ways. I made signs: “Hi,” “Hello,”“Be Happy!”and posted them in the window and waved.I stood near the window in various poses, made faces, stuck out my tongue, and once went into the walkway over the street and danced while co-workers pointed to let fans know I was there.Christmas approached, and job cuts were announced. Several co-workers would lose their jobs, and everyone was feeling low. Stress in the office reached a high. During the break, I hid from my co-workers, slipped into the costume, walked bravely to my desk, sat down, and held my belly, as they gathered around me laughing when my manager was walking through the door. He held his stomach, and tears formed in his eyes. It was the first time I had seen them smile in weeks. He said, “Mike, thanks! With the job cuts it has been hard to enjoy the Christmas season. Thanks for the laugh, I needed it.”24.Which of the following words can best describe the author according to Paragraph 1?A.Optimistic.B.Pessimistic.C.Generous.D.Clever.25.Why was late afternoon the best time?A.Because the author could attract many more people and make them relaxed.B.Because the co-workers would be more interested in his behavior.C.Because there were so many cars and bused then.D.ecause the author was free at that time.26.Who was/were probably interested in the author’s behavior?A.The passengers.B.The drivers.C.The manager.D.The workmates.27.How did the author finally make his workmates and manager laugh?A.By shaking and hitting the manager.B.By his humorous and funny acting.C.By letting his co-workers gather around him.D.By putting pressure on his manager.CTraffic noise can shorten your life, new research suggests. Having to endure rumbling lorries, honking horns and screeching tyres has been linked to shorter life expectancy and a higher risk of stroke.People surrounded by daytime traffic noise louder than 60db (分贝)were 4 per cent more likely to die than those where noise levels were 55db – roughly the level of a loud conversation. The extra deaths mostly involved heart or artery disease - which could in turn be linked to raised blood pressure, sleep problems and stress brought on by noise. The study also found that adults living in areas with the noisiest daytime traffic were 5% more likely to be admitted to hospital for stroke than those from quieter neighbourhoods. For the elderly, this increase in risk rose to 9%.The scientists looked levels of road traffic noise between 7am and 11pm, and at night between 11pm and 7am, across a range of different postcodes and correlated(使有相互关系) their findings with death and hospital admission rates. A number of factors - including individuals' age and sex as well as ethnicity, smoking levels, air pollution and socio-economic deprivation - were taken into account.Commenting on the findings, Professor Francesco Cappuccio, chair of Cardiovascular Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Warwick, said: “The results do not imply a direct cause-effect relationship. However, they are consistent with other evidence to suggest a possible causal link.”“It has been well established that nocturnal(夜间的) traffic noise disrupts sleep quantity and quality. If sustained over time, these disturbances, like sleep deprivation, have been associated with a 12% increased risk of all-cause mortality, mainly due to a 15% increase in stroke events and high blood pressure. Public health policies must pay more attention to this emerging evidence. ”said he.Given what we know about traffic emissions increasing heart disease, we should remember that travelling by foot or bike is definitely healthier - both for you and for the people around you.28.The noise of can be lighter than 60db.A.rumbling lorriesB.screeching tyresC.loud conversationsD.honking horns29.What does the underlined word “sustained” mean?A.Restrained.B.Maintained.C.Resolved.D.Mistaken.30.What can we learn from Professor Francesco’s words?A.Walking and bike-riding will not increase heart disease.B.Traffic noise in the daytime is less harmful than in the evening.C.Someone may live healthily without being influenced by traffic noise.D.Traffic noise can cause a 15% increase in stroke and high blood pressure.31.Which of the following is TRUE?A.Traffic noise directly leads to stroke.B.The extra deaths mostly involved noise.C.Traffic emissions are more serious than traffic noise.D.Traffic noise has something to do with high blood pressure.DI’m not a hater. I admire those who write, read and love first person point of view. So why did I write PRETTY DARK NOTHING in third person? The answer is simple. It’s the way the story and the characters presented themselves to me. It’s part of my unique voice.Maybe my love of third person comes from all those years reading epic(叙事诗) fantasy. I do think my reading preferences influence how and what I write. There’s something about third person that brings a story to life in a way that first person can’t because of its limited view of the characters. I love the richness of language, the depth of the world, the exploraion of emotion and conflict on a broader range that third person allows me. It’s about diversity.I’m not saying you can’t have rich language or depth in first person point of view. You absolutely can, but it is a challenge, just as writing in third makes it harder to create the same close feeling you get from telling and reading a story in first. Where first person explores the inside out, third tends to give a little more room to pull the camera bake and explore the external. To me, you get the best of both worlds. It gives you enough distance so you don’t feel like you’re experiencing the story through a single prism(棱镜)and yet it’s close enough to help the reader connect to the character and feel as if they’re on the journey with them.In the end, there is no right or wrong. Both points of view have their strengths and their weaknesses. All writers must work to find the right balance and to seek their own voice. At the end of the day, it’s all about the story. If the story is great, it doesn’t matter which point of view it’s written in.32.What hsa an effect on the writer’s writing style?A.Her parents.B.Her life experience.C.Her reading preferences.D.Her friends.33.What do we learn about first person from the text?A.It allows the writer to use richer language.B.It is easier for the writer to create close feeling.C.It can express the characters’ feelings more diversely.D.It hels the writer to explore the world more deeply.34.What does the underlined expression “At the end of the day”mean?A.After the sun has set.B.After thinking for a day.C.When a day is over.D.When you consider everything.35.How does the writer sound when expressing her opinion?A.Anxious.B.Humorous.C.Objective.D.Reserved.第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

ADear Sir / Madam,It worried me a lot when I heard of the plan to cut down St John’s Wood to make a car park for shoppers. Although I agree that the town is short of car parks, this idea would be improper. In the first place, the wood is an area of natural beauty. There are many ancient trees of an unusual kind. I often go there for a picnic or just to relax at weekends. The wood is, without doubt, a natural home for birds, animals and insects. If the trees were cut down, many species would be lost. Furthermore, the wood is right in the centre of a heavily polluted part of town. The trees help to make the air cleaner. The council (地方议会) says they are worried about global warming, yet they wish to cut down trees which helpreduce the build-up of gases that lead to global warming because they feed on carbon dioxide. Besides, that area also suffers (遭受) from high noise levels from passing trucks and the railway line. The trees help reduce the noise levels and do a lot of good to the whole environment. In my opinion, cutting down the wood would be stupid and pointless. A car park maywell attract shoppers to the town and increase the shopkeepers’ trade. However, abeautiful part of our town would be destroyed. I would be very interested in hearing what your other readers think.Yoursfaithfully,RolandChang21. What has made Roland Chang feel worried?A. That the town is short of car parks.B. Among them there were old men, mothers with small babies and children all following the same route. Many of them had horses to carry their food, blankets and tents. Some, like us, had come by bus to Mahuayani, the nearest town, and were walking up from there. We continued climbing for another hour and a half before reaching the Sinakara valley. There we looked down on a flat plain of open grassland. Right across this flat piece of ground people were putting up tents of blue plastic to protect themselves from the rain. Marco chose a spot to put up our tent. Not far away in an open market, people were buying tiny houses, cars or small pictures showing a baby or something else. Marco explained that these representedsomething the pilgrims (朝圣者) wanted. They would take them and bury them in the mountain. This, they believed, would make sure that what they wished for would come true in the year to come. After dinner we went to bed fully clothed inside our sleeping bags. We wereup early the next morning, the main day of the festival. The ukukus, men wearing black masks and bright costumes, had left their tents in the early hours to climb the nearest mountain by the light of the full moon. They stopped to dance from time to time, believing this would bring luck to their villages. As they came down, they were joined by groups of dancers in traditional costumes. They performed wherever there was a space. Although there did not seem to be anyone organising them, the whole festival had become a huge harmonious (和谐的) celebration.29. What would be the best title for the text?A. An unpleasant trip to PeruB. The world’s highest festivalC. The history of Qoyllur Rit’iD. A disappearing tradition in PeruDWhat makes one person have more accidents than another? Most people would say thatit’s to do with taking risks. Take fewer risks and you’ll have fewer accidents. But is taking risks really a matter of choice? Some experts believe that whether or not you take risks in life has a lot to do with your upbringing and, some believe, with your birth order. Parents are often stricter and more careful with their first child, and so first-born children tend to grow up taking fewer risks. Parents are often more relaxed with a second or third child, so thesechildren tend to take more risks. But why do children tend to have more accidents than adults? During childhood the body grows very quickly. There seem to be periods in these years when our brain and body are at different stages of development. Our arms are longer than the brain thinks they are, so we knock things over; our legs are longer than the brain believes, so we trip over easily.Besides, the research suggests that the more time a child spends watching TV, the less they are developing their physical co-ordination (协调) skills. It gives the child a false sense of how the world works and of how much danger it contains. If a child doesn’t run around a lot, they don’t begin to understand that the world is ful l of physical risk. So, what about adults? Some studies have shown that life in this world is a little difficult for left-handed people. As we know, we live in a right-handed world. Everything —from cars to door handles, from children’s toys to engineerin g tools and equipment —is made by right-handed people. Therefore, left-handed children and adults are more likely to have accidents because the modern world is not designed for them.33. Different from the first child, a second one tends to _____.A. become ill more easilyB. have more accidentsC. learn more quicklyD. make more friends34. By saying “Our arms are longer than the brain thinks they are〞, the author meansthat _____.A. it is very easy for children to take risksB. our brain develops faster than the arms doC. children often do more exercises than adultsD. it is important to give children a balanced diet35. Which of the following may have more accidents?A. Right-handed people.B. Children who often run around.C. Left-handed people.D. Children who seldom watch TV.第二节〔共5小题;每一小题2分,总分为10分〕根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最优选项。

But what’s the best age to wed? When Avril Lavigne announced she was splitting from her husband, comments from her friends suggested that she was only 21 when she tied the knot and later she said that she realized she'd been too young to make such a life-altering decision. Could fellow young celebrity divorcées(离婚者) Reese Witherspoon, Kate Hudson, and Britney Spears have also hit the same age-related issue? The Magic NumberThere are practical reasons for the mid-20s dividing line, and most of them boil down to two biggies: education and money. It turns out that the more years of higher education a woman has under her belt on her wedding day, the lower the chances that she'll get divorced ... and by 25, you're more likely to have earned a degree or two. Educated women tend to be more confident about who they are and less willing to settle for a man who doesn't meet their standards.Odds(可能性) are that by 25 you're also supporting yourself, so there's less incentive(刺激; 鼓舞)for you to rush into marriage because you're seeking financial security from him. But the marriage-related benefits of working and having money of your own go beyond feeling secure.Learning to budget your cash carefully when you're single will help you avoid financial problems—one of the main causes of couple fights—for the rest of your life.Knowing the Real YouAt 25, you've had time for some crucial life experiences, including a relationship or two that may have improved your Mr. Right radar. You've probably dated enough to have a better idea of what you don't want in a man, which makes it easier to know what you can live with and can't live without.Perhaps the most important aspect of waiting is that you'll know what your goals and values really are. While you don't want to marry someone just like you, marriage is a lot easier if you two share a similar outlook on life.Twenty-four and already married to the man of your dreams? Don't worry: Many young marriages survive. But given the choice, you might consider putting off the big day until your mid-20s or later.46. What main factors influence the mid-20s dividing line? According to the author, why does a couple probably fight?(No more than 4 words)_________________________________________________________________48. How do you know what you don’t want in a man? We’re eating way too much of it. Most of us know what we’re doing and yet we do it anyway. So here's a suggestion offered by two researchers at the Rand Corporation: Why not take a lesson from alcohol control policies and apply them to where food is sold and how it’s displayed?"Many policy measures to control obesity (肥胖症)assume that people consciously and rationally choose what and how much they eat and therefore focus on providing information and more access to healthier foods," note the two researchers."In contrast," the researchers continue, "many regulations that don't assume people make rational choices have been successfully applied to control alcohol, a substance --- like food --- of which immoderate consumption leads to serious health problems."The research references studies of people’s behavior with food and alcohol and results of alcohol restrictions, and then lists five regulations that the researchers think might be promising if applied to junk foods. Among them:Density restrictions: licenses to sell alcohol aren't handed out unplanned to all comers but areallotted (分配)based on the number of places in an area that already sell alcohol. These make alcohol less easy to get and reduce the number of psychological cues to drink.Similarly, the researchers say, being presented with junk food stimulates our desire to eat it. So why not limit the density of food outlets, particularly ones that sell food rich in empty calories? And why not limit sale of food in places tha t aren’t primarily food stores?Display and sales restrictions: California has a rule prohibiting alcohol displays near the cash registers in gas stati ons, and in most places you can’t buy alcohol at drive-through facilities. At supermarkets, food companies pay to have their wares in places where they're easily seen. One could remove junk food to the back of the store and ban them from the shelves at checkout lines. The other measures include restricting portion sizes, taxing and prohibiting special price deals for junk foods, and placing warning labels on the products.56. What do the Rand researchers think of many of the policy measures to control obesity?A. They should be implemented effectively.B. They provide misleading information.C. They are based on wrong assumptions.D. They help people make rational choices.57. Why do policymakers of alcohol control place density restrictions?A. Fe w people are able to resist alcohol’s temptations.B. There are already too many stores selling alcohol.C. Drinking strong alcohol can cause social problems.D. Easy access leads to customers' over-consumption.58. What is the purpose of California’s rule about alcohol display in gas stations?A. To effectively limit the density of alcohol outlets.B. To help drivers to give up the habit of drinking.C. To prevent possible traffic jams in nearby areas.D. To get alcohol out of drivers’ immedi ate sight.59. You should buy sushi in shops or supermarkets only on people’s recommendationCBarack Obama urged congressional leaders on Monday to act quickly to pass a huge stimuluspackage for the U.S. economy. He met with a bipartisan (concerning or involving two different political parties) group of lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Later he met individually with Democratic and Republican House and Senate leaders and spoke to a bipartisan leadership gathering. In comments to reporters early on Monday, he emphasized the urgency of finalizing economic legislation (立法). “We have got an extraordinary economic challenge ahead of us,” he said, “We are expecting a sobering job report at the end of the week. Nancy Pelosi and her staff have been extraordinarily helpful in working with our team so that we can shape an economic recovery and reinvestment plan that starts putting people back to work.”Mr. Obama wants tax cuts for individual Americans and businesses to make up a significant portion of expected legislation. This could involve as much as $300 billion of a bill that is likely to go beyond $700 billion and include aid to cash-poor U.S. states, and money for alternative energy and a range of infrastructure (基础设施) projects. Later, Mr. Obama said he expects to be able to sign legislation as soon as the end of this month, adding that quick action is necessary to “break the drive of the U.S. economic depression”.Emerging later from bipartisan talks with Mr. Obama, Nancy Pelosi said lawmakers discussed with the president how to pass a stimulus package as quickly as possible. “An economic recovery package that will create jobs immediately and will grow the economy and that is what we talked about today,” said Nancy Pelosi. “How we could do this fast, deliberatively and to act upon it soon.” Just how soon that would be, Pelosi would not say.How much support Democrats can obtain from Republicans will depend on the details. But the severity of the U.S. economic depression has created considerable bipartisan backing for quick action. Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid said: “There are investments that we need to make on behalf of the American people to turn around this economy. We felt very good about the meeting; we ar e confident that we can do this and we have to do this.”“I think the best thing I can do is to decline to comment on what they are going to do going forward,” said Dana Perino. “Obviously, we think that tax cuts were the right way to help our economy get out of the economic depression that this president inherited and we know that tax cuts can stimulate innovation.” Asked by reporters how large the economic stimulus package might be, Senate Majority Leader Reid said Obama indicated that all but one of some 28 economists advising him had said it should range from $800 billion to $1.3 trillion.63. Barack Obama urged congressional leaders and met with bipartisan leaders to _____.A. take over the White HouseB. end economic declineC. understand each other betterD. negotiate political issues64. If the stimulus package is passed quickly and successfully, it can _____.A. obtain support from RepublicansB. finalize economic legislationC. enhance America’s international positionD. provide job opportunities65. What is the bipartisan leaders’ attitude towards this meeting?A. Uncertain.B. Hopeful.C. Disappointed.D. Indifferent.66. What can we infer from the passage?A. The best way out of the economic depression is tax cuts.B. The Republic Party plays the key role in coping with the economic depression.C. Democrats and Republicans will team up in the economic depression.D. When the stimulus package will be passed is known to the lawmakers.D“To be or not to be.” Outside the Bible, these six words are the most famous in all the literature of the world. They were spoken by Hamlet when he was thinking aloud, and they are the most famous words in Shakespeare because Hamlet was speaking not only for himself but for every thinking man and woman. To be or not to be ---- to live or not to live, to live richly and abundantly (丰富地) and eagerly, or to live dully and meanly and scarcely. A philosopher once wanted to know whether he was alive or not, which is a good question for everyone to put to himself occasionally. He answered it by saying, “I think, therefore I am.”But the best definition of existence I ever saw was one written by another philosopher who said, “To be is to be in relations.” If this is true, then the more relations a living thing has, the more it is alive. To live abundantly means simply to increase the range and intensity (强度) of our relations. Unfortunately, we are so constituted (组成) that we get to love our routine. But other than our regular occupation, how much are we alive? If you are interested only in your regular occupation, you are alive only to that extent. So far as other things are concerned ---- poetry and prose, music, pictures, sports, unselfish friendships, politics, international affairs ---- you are dead.On the contrary, it is true that every time you acquire a new interest ---- even more, a new accomplishment ---- you increase your power of life. No one who is deeply interested in different kinds of subjects can remain unhappy. The real pessimist is the person who has lost interest.Bacon said that a man dies as often as he loses a friend. But we gain new life by contacts with new friends, and new ideas and thoughts, too. Where your thoughts are, there will be your life also. If your thoughts are limited only to your business, only to your physical welfare, only to your narrow circle of the town in which you live, then you live in a narrow restricted life. But if you are interested in the characters of a good novel, then you are living with those highly interested people; if you listen intently (专注地) to fine music, you are always away from immediate surroundings and living in a world of passion and imagination. To be or not to be ---- to live intensely and richly, or merely to exist, depends on ourselves. Let us widen and intensify (增强) our relations. While we live, let us live.67. What does the author mainly want to do by this passage?A. The author wants to argue against an idea.B. The author wants to put forward an idea.C. The author wants to introduce some famous sayings.D. The author wants to explain some famous sayings.68. What does the underlined word “pessimist” most probably mean?A. It means somebody who always expects the worst to happen.B. It means somebody who is always interested in making new friends.C. It means somebody who always lives in a world of passion and imagination.D. It means somebody who likes to live a rich and abundant life.69. Which of the following behaviors is probably encouraged by the author?A. Limiting our thoughts to our business and physical welfareB. Exposing ourselves to new friends, ideas and thoughts.C. Getting along with those highly interested people.D. Living in a world of passion and imagination.70. What is the main idea of the passage?A. To be or not to be, that is a question.B. I think, therefore I am.C. To be is to be in relations.D. A man dies as often as he loses a friend.第四部分任务型阅读(共10小题)Family structure had changed dramatically over the last 50 years. The following are the types of families existing today.Nuclear FamilyThe nuclear family is a traditional type of family structure. This family type consists of mother, father and children. The nuclear family was long held in esteem by society as being the ideal in which to raise children because children in nuclear families receive strength and stability from the two-parent structure.Single Parent FamilyThe single parent family consists of one parent raising one or more children on his own. When only one parent is at home, it may be a struggle to find childcare, as there is only one parent working. This limits income and opportunities in many cases, although many single parent families have help from relatives and friends.Extended FamilyThe extended family structure consists of two or more adults who are related, either by blood or marriage, living in the same home. This family includes many relatives living together and working toward common goals. This type of family structure may be formed due to financial difficulties or because older relatives are unable to care for themselves alone.Childless FamilyWhile most people think of family as including children, there are couples who either cannot or choose not to have children. Many childless families take on the responsibility of pet ownership or have extensive contact with their nieces and nephews as a substitute for having their own children.StepfamilyOver half of all marriages end in divorce, and many of these individuals choose to get remarried. This creates the stepfamily, which involves two separate families merging into one new unit. Stepfamilies tend to have more problems, such as adjustment periods and discipline issues. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to what is the best type of family structure. As long as a family is filled with love and support for one another, it tends to be successful and79 Love and support can always 80 to a successful and thriving familyregardless of family structure.第五部分书面表达根据下列图示以“The New Grading System in Our School”为题为你校英语报写一篇短文,说明这一举措以及你对学校实施这一举措的认识。

For many young Chinese, it has driven them to embrace a far more frugal (节俭的) lifestyle.Wang Hao, 24, is a Beijing office worker. He made a resolution in June last year to limit his weekly living expenses to 100 yuan. That's the cost of eight Big Macs in China."The financial crisis has taught a spending lesson to young people in China, including me," said Wang, who posted his resolution on his blog, which has drawn over 200,000 hits.As the financial crisis affects the economy, white-collar workers speak of shrinking (缩减的) bonuses. Some are unemployed. And university students are facing the worst job prospects since China's economic reform began 30 years ago.To save money, people have started to share dinners, houses, taxis and other activities with strangers they meet online. Web users post their activities on sites, such as and invite others to join them. Lin Xiongbo, the founder of Pinkewang, said his website saw a 100 percent increase of visitors last November after the global financial crisis broke.People are also using websites like Lin's to share other activity ideas such as training programs, sports, and entertainments."Sharing activities with others can save a lot of money without lowering one's quality of life," said 27-year-old Xu Li. He's a manager at a public relations firm and a long-time user of websites like Pinkewang. It was on the Internet that Xu recently found another person to take part in an English training program with him. By joining the program with another person, he and his partner received a 10 percent discount for the course, saving them more than 1,000 yuan.Young Chinese born in the 80s used to be accused of being materialistic. They favored designer clothes and the latest electronic products, and many of them spent their monthly salaries rather than saving them. They became known as the "Yueguang group".However, since the economy slowed down, this lifestyle has lost much of its charm. Now, more and more young Chinese consider saving money to be more fashionable than spending. The frugal lifestyles these young Chinese are embracing seem to be accepted by the authorities too. In a commentary published in the People's Daily recently, the writer said frugality did not conflict with the government's demand-stimulating policies, as it called for reasonable rather than reckless spending."Frugal lifestyles should become a fashion, especially in the financial crisis," said the writer Wang Jinyou.1. Salt water is already entering the country's drinking water supply, as well as damaging plants that produce fruit and vegetable. It fears it will be swallowed up by the sea. Without urgent help, the country's days are numbered. But Tuvalu is not the first place to face sinking into the sea. Venice, a historic city in Italy best known for its canals, has sunk about 24cm over the past 100 years. Experts say that it will have sunk another 20-50cm by 2050.A century ago, St. Mark's Square, the lowest point in the city, flooded about nine time a year. Nowadays it happens more than 100 times. While Venice is slowly sinking into the mud on which it stands, Tuvalu's rising sea level is caused by global warming. The average global temperature has increased by almost 0.5 centigrade degree over the past century; scientists expect it to rise by an extra 1-3 degrees over the next 100 years.Warmer weather makes glaciers(冰川)melt, adding more water to the ocean. The warmer temperatures also make water expand, so it take up more space, causing the sea level to rise. The sea level has risen about 10-25cm in the last 100 years.People have been increasing the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, such as CO2, through burning coal, oil and gas. This adds to the power of the greenhouse effect, making the planet even warmer. Many scientists believe that, if the warming is not stopped, there will be huge climate changes. The sea level could rise by one metre this century.Should this come true, millions of homes would be swallowed up by the sea and the world will be flooded with" climate refugees" looking for somewhere else to live. 5.We can infer from Paragraph 2 that .A.Tuvalu is in danger of being swallowed up by the seaB.all Tuvalu islands are about five meters above the sea levelC.drinking water in Tuvalu has been destroyedD.Tuvalu is often flooded by storms and waves6.The author uses Tuvalu and Venice as examples in order to explain .A.it is first places sinking into the sea B.it is sinking into the mud where they stand C.it will disappear in the future D.its trouble is caused by global warming 7.What does the underlined word "refugees" (in the last paragraph)mean?A.People forced away from their homeland B.Sudden changes caused by world climate C.Animals closely connected with weather D.Bad effect of climate changes 8.Which of the following is NOT true according to the text?A.The main cause of global warming is human pollutionB.The average global temperature has risen by 1-3 ℃over the past century.C.The warmer temperature causes the sea level to riseD.There will be huge climate changes unless the warming is stopped四、任务型阅读The family sphere used to be defined by its isolation from the public realm. There was the public male realm of "rational accomplishment" and cruel competition, and the private female and child-rearing sphere of home, intuition and emotion. The private realm was supposed to be isolated from the realities of adult life. For both better and worse, television and other electronic media tend to break down the difference between those two worlds. The membrane around the family sphere is much more permeable. TV takes public events and transforms them into dramas that are played out in the privacy of our living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms.Parents used to be the channel through which children learned about the outside world. They could decide what to tell their children and when to tell it to them. Since children learn to read in stages, books provide a kind of natural screening process, where adults can decide what to tell and not tell children of different reading abilities. Television destroyed the system that separated adult from child knowledge and separated information into year-by-year slices for children of different ages. Instead, it presents the same information directly to children of all ages, without going through adult filters. So television presents a real challenge to adults. While a parent can read a newspaper without sharing it with children in the same room, television is accessible to everyone in that space. And unlike books, television doesn't allow us to flip through it and see what's coming up. We may think we're giving our children a lesson in science by having them watch the Challenger take off, and then suddenly they learn about death, disaster and adult mistakes.Books allow adults to discuss privately what to tell or not tell children. This also allows parents to keep adult material secret from children and keep their secret keeping secret. Take that same material and put it on The Today Show and you have 800,000children hearing the very things the adults are trying to keep from them. "Television takes our kids across the globe before parents give them permission to cross the street."More importantly, children gradually learn that adults are worried and anxious about being parents. Actually, television has also places families under a lot of stress. How Television Changes Childhood?
