《甄嬛传》嫔妃、贵人、常在、答应”英文翻译
火爆国内的《甄嬛传》版权也被Netflix买走，出了一个美版《甄嬛传》（Empresses in the Palace），经过剪辑，压缩成6集，每集90分钟。
我们先梳理一下清朝后宫的嫔妃体系，一共八个级别，分别是：皇后，皇贵妃，贵妃，妃，嫔，贵人，常在，答应。
最高一级的皇后是empress (/ˈemprəs/)，其实就是皇帝emperor 的女版。
比皇后低一级的是“皇贵妃”了，不过甄嬛的封号到头也只是贵妃——“熹贵妃”，被翻译为Noble Consort Xi 。
记住，“贵”不是expensive 啊，人又不是货物，应该用noble 一词，表示“高贵的”。
“妃”也不是fly，这里不能走谐音梗啊，翻成Consort （/ˈkɒnsɔːt/）就很合适，表示“（统治者的）配偶”。
皇贵妃比贵妃还高一级，Noble Consort 前要加个Imperial。
比“贵妃”低一级是“妃”，要去掉修饰词Noble，单独一个Consort 就可以了，所以“华妃”不是Hua Fly，而是Consort Hua。
比“贵妃”低一级的是“嫔”，英文翻译是Concubine (/ˈkɒŋkjubaɪn/)。
Concubine 这个词就是指（尤指旧时某些社会里的）妾，陈凯歌的《霸王别姬》就被翻译为“Farewell My Concubine”。
比“嫔”次一级的封号是“贵人”，美版《甄嬛传》中把“贵人”被翻译为Noble Lady，就是“高贵的女士”。
比“贵人”低一级的是“常在”，英文不是always here，而是First Attendant。
Attendant (/əˈtendənt/) 在现代语境中表示“服务人员”，比如“空中乘务员”就是flight attendant，而在古代宫廷中，该词表示“侍从”。
“常在”翻译为First Attendant 很合理，表示“一级女侍”。
比“常在”低一级的，也是嫔妃系统中最低一级的是“答应”，这里的“答应”可不是agree，“答应别人”的答应啊…既然“常在”叫First Attendant，那么比“常在”次一级的“答应”就是Second Attendant前面提过，甄嬛作为嫔妃身份的最终封号是“熹贵妃”，其实她最终的身份是“圣母皇太后”，这才是真正的清宫之首，比皇帝还大，英文叫Empress Dowager (/ˈdaʊədʒə(r)/)。
