Is your mobile phone directory full of phone numbers of people you don't really want to talk to? Do you go out with people from work or school more often than with your real friends? Do you say yes to invitations because you think you should, not because you want to? If you answered yes to at least two ofthese questions, then perhaps you need to "edit your friends".Nowadays people like to spend a lot of time with people at work or classmates at school. The result is that we don't have enough time to see our real, close friends. As our lives get busier, it becomes more important to spend the little free time we have with people we really want to see, people we love and who really love us.Who are the friends you need to edit? A few years ago I read a book about how to get rid of unnecessary possessions(物品). It said you should ask yourself about each thing you have: Is it useful? Do I really like it? Do I feel better every time I look at it? If the answer is no to any one of those questions, you should throw it away. Maybe we should ask similar questions about our friends. What kind of friends will you probably need to edit? Sometimes it's an old friend. Somebody who you used to have a lot in common with, but who, when you meet now, you have very little or nothing to say to. Or it might be a new friend who you get on quite well with, but who is taking up too much of your time. Next time one of these people calls you and suggests a meeting, think "Do I really want to seethis person?", and if the answer is no, say no, and make an excuse. That way you'll have more time to spend with your real friends.1. People need to edit their friends when .A. they have moved to a different areaB. they have no time with their real friendsC. some of their friends don't talk very muchD. their friends are people from work or school2. People don't need to edit their .A. real friendsB. young friendsC. old friendsD. new friends3. What does the writer want to tell us in Paragraph 3?A. We should often throw some possessions.B. Most of our friends are not necessary at all.C. We shouldn't treat our friends as possessions.D. We should ask ourselves who our real friends are. 1—3、BADKWhen people go to England, they must learn somethingabout transportation there. In England, cars, buses and bikes must keep to the left side of the street. One of the things he discovered was money made of paper. People in the West did not have such kind of money until the 15th century. However, the Chinese began to use it in the 7th century.Paper was invented by a Chinese man called Cai Lun almost 2,000 years ago. But it was not made in Europe until the year 1100.Four hundred years later, a German discovered that he could make the best paper from trees. After that countries rich in forests, such as Canada, Sweden, America, Finland became the most important ones in paper making.Paper can be used in many ways. The common uses include newspapers, magazines and books. But do you know that paper can be used for keeping warm? In Finland, the farmers wear paper boots to keep their feet warm in the snow. And even houses can be insulated(使绝缘) from heat or cold with paper. However, we have to understand that paper still comes from trees now. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth some day in the near future. Every day people throw away about 2,800 tons of paper in our city. It takes 17 trees tomake one ton of paper. This means that we are cutting down nearly 48,000 trees every day. The fact is that it takes more than 10 years for a tree to grow.So we must start saving paper right now. We can use both sides of every piece of paper. We can make useful things out of used paper. We can use china cups instead of paper ones. When shopping, we can use fewer paper bags and reuse them if we have some.In short, we should keep a balance(平衡) between using paper and protecting trees, and do it now before it is too late.1.When did the Chinese begin to use paper money?A.In the 5th century.B.In the 6th century.C.In the 7th century.D.In the 15th century.2.Why did Canada become an important country in paper making?A.Because it was a large country.B.Because it had lots of forests.C.Because it was a very rich country.D.Because the inventor was from Canada.3.In Finland, paper is used for .A.making bedsB.reducing wasteC.making umbrellasD.keeping warm4.According to the passage, how many trees are needed to make one ton of paper?A.10.B.17.C.2,800.D.48,000.5.Paragraph 5 mainly talks about .A.how paper boots are madeB.how paper was inventedC.how we can save paperD.how we can make useful thingsBLong, long ago people made fires from lightning(闪电). But they had to keep the fire burning, for they couldn’t start it again if there was no lightning. Later, they found out hitting two pieces of stone together could make a spark(火花). The spark could fire dry leaves. In this way they could make the fire again if it went out. Then people also learned to make a fire by rubbing(摩擦). They made a hole on a piece of wood and put a smaller stick into the hole. They turned the stick again and again. After a few minutes they got a fire.As years went by, people learned other ways to make a fire. Sometimes they used the heat from the sun. They held a piece of glass in the right way and made a piece of paper on fire.About two centuries ago, people began to make matches. Matches brought people a quick and easy way to make fires. Today matches are still being used, but people have more new ways to make fires. One of them is to use an electric fire starter. The most popular way to teach these young children another language is called immersion.Children in immersion programs hear only the new language in the classroom. The children play games, sing songs and talk to one another in the new language. Some experts say immersion programs are the most effective way for young children to learn a language. But there can be a problem when children in the United States begin to learn another language at such an early age. Not many elementary schools continue to teach a foreign language. Only seven of the fifty states require schools to teach a foreign language to students between the ages of six and twelve. Language experts say it is easier for younger children to learn a language. Still, American schools generally do not begin to teach foreign languages until secondary schools. By then, students are about thirteen years old.American schools face difficult choices about the cost of educational programs. Most of them were still alive.During a storm in July 1901, in Minneapolis, people heard something falling from the sky that did not sound like rain. When they went outside, they found all types of frogs covering four streets. There are other reports of strange “rains”failing from the sky including worms, insects and snakes. Can these strange “rains”be explained by science? Scientists usually say that a tornado (龙卷风) has picked up the animals from a river or ocean, carried them for miles, and then dropped them somewhere else. But this does not completely explain all of them. On May 15, 1890, in Italy, there was a rain of blood ¾birds’blood. Scientists said that flying birds must have been torn to pieces by strong winds. But if so, why did only their blood fall from the sky , and not other parts of their bodies? And anyway, there were no strong winds that day!1. What does it mean when people say, “It’s raining cats and dogs”?A. Cats and dogs are falling from the sky.B. It’s raining heavily.C. Animals started to fall to the ground.D. There is a black cloud.2. Which of the following has not been reported as strange things failing from the sky?A. Cats and dogs.B. Worms and insects.C. Fish and blood.D. Snakes and frogs.3. What does the underlined word “torn”mean?A.破裂B. 撕破C. 切碎D. 割破4. Scientists’explanation for rain of blood is that ________.A. the tornado picked up the birds’bloodB. flying birds were torn into pieces by strong windsC. there were no strong winds that dayD. other parts of birds’bodies did not fall with the blood5. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?A. Strange “Winds”B. Strange “Clouds”C. Strange “Rains”D.

Without music, life would be a mistake, "famous German philosopher(哲学家)Friedrich Nietzsche said over a century ago. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some American schools have cut music classes to control budgets(预算).For example, Chicago public schools hurt arts education when it fired over 1, 000 teachers. Among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That's partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn't tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more often. However, learning music is beneficial(有益的)in many ways. When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to Kenneth K. Guilmartin of Music Together, an early childhood music development program. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode(解码)them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music:Einstein played the violin and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.(1)Some schools in the US cut music classes, because ____.A. they were too difficult to learnB. students in the US weren't interested in musicC. the schools wanted to control budgetsD. there weren't enough music teachers in the US (2)In Paragraph 2, what does the underlined word "them" refer to(指代)?A. Students in Chicago.B. Public schools.C. Parents in Chicago.D. Fired teachers.(3)How many scientists who are good at playing music are mentioned in this passage? A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.(4)What's the writer's opinion according to this passage?A. Music is as simple as it looks.B. Music classes should be cut in some schools.C. Music is a big part of our lives.D. Music isn't a very important life skill for us.【答案】(1)C(2)D(3)B(4)C【解析】【分析】本文介绍了很多地区削减了音乐课以控制预算,这是不合适的,因为音乐在许多方面都是有益的。
