For much of our history, we have turned to "hard engineering" to control the marine (海洋的) environment and manage its influence on us. We build dams, sea walls and channels. But all these efforts seem to fail, because we've not been thinking about design of structures with respect to ecology. Some coastal structures create shade, which reduces the growth of seaweed. Bright lights at night contuse species such as turtles (海龟) That's why blue engineering comes in.Johnson, a marine ecologist, is advocating for "blue engineering" the marine version of the "green engineering" movement on land that has seen nations like Singapore building the walls and roofs of the concrete jungle with plant life.Researchers with the World Harbour Project are creating tiles (瓦片) similar to the natural structuresfound on rocky shores with 3D printing technology. These make more attractive homes for marine creatures. Researchers are also actively seeding these tiles with local seaweeds and creatures such as the Sydney rock oyster, which is particularly good at improving water quality. Twelve harbors around the world are taking part in this marine tile experiment, each working with their own unique marine life. It's a far cry from the days when huge numbers of old tyres were thrown into the sea to build "artificial reefs(礁石)".Those early attempts are now costing millions to remove, showing just how far we have yet to go in understanding how best to co-habit with the underwater world.1.What do we know about "hard engineering"?A.It has improved sea environment.B.It controls the influence of sea well.C.It has failed to achieve its purpose.D.It makes living under the sea possible.2.What does the underlined word "contuse" in Paragraph 1 mean?A.Injure.B.Heat.C.Defend.D.Involve.3.Which of the following is a form of "blue engineering"?A.Growing plant life on concrete buildings.B.Building rocky shores with 3D printers.C.Creating an artificial reef with old tyres.D.Building structures benefiting sea creatures.4.What's the main idea of the passage?A.Two ways of sea engineeringB.The green engineering movement.C.Construction of artificial reefs.D.Research on blue engineering. In much areas of Asia, especially the so-called "rice bowl" cultures of China, Japan ①_______ Vietnam, food is usually eaten with chopsticks.Chopsticks are usually two long, thin pieces of wood or bamboo. Terry looked back at her from the front of the line, then loo ked away quickly. Mo thought she looked guilty. She didn’t have a problem with physics. She didn’t have a problem with anything!“Hi, Mo, it’s your favourite exam today!” said Nima as she arrived. Terry looked back again. “What’s wrong with her?” said Nima. “I thought you were friends.”“Yes, so did I,” said Mo. “But she looks absent-minded and acts strangely these days. She promised to help me revise for the physics exam, but then she ignored all my calls and texts!” said Mo angrily while going into t he exam room.Mo couldn’t answer question number five. She looked up and saw Terry sitting in the next row. Mo was surprised. Terry was holding her phone under the table and she was reading from it. Is that how Terry always got good grades? She felt really angry at Terry and thought about telling the teacher, but what would everyone else think of her? It wasn’t fair! Mo never cheated and she failed lots of exams. Terry had already put her phone away when Mo looked up again. She looked back at Mo and sm iled sadly. “Stop writing and put your pens down” said Mr Reed as he started to collect the exam papers. Oh no, Mo hadn’t answered two of the questions. She was going to fail again! The next exam was history. That was Mo’s favourite subject but she didn’t feel good. “It wasn’t fair!” she thought. “Terry was getting good grades by cheating all that time. And I thought we were friends!” Just then, Mr Reed walked past her table. “Mr Reed...”Mo was sitting behind Terry again in the history exam, but Te rry didn’t take her phone out. Mo was feeling bad again. Why did she tell Mr Reed? But it was too late now. He wanted her to look at him and nod if she saw that Terry had her phone in the exam. She was on the last question when she saw that Terry had her phone under the table. Without thinking, Mo looked up and nodded to Mr Reed.

2022浙江省高考英语二轮练习:写人记事阅读理解(6)解析答案写人记事(阅读理解)Peanuts to ThisProudly reading my words,I glanced around the room, only to find my classmates bearing big smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes.Confused,I glanced toward my stone-faced teacher.Having no choice,I slowly raised the report I had slaved over, hoping to hide myself.“What could be causing everyone to act this way?”Quickly,I flashed back to the day Miss Lancelot gave me the task. This was the first real task I received in my new school. It seemed simple: go on the Internet and find information about a man named George Washington.Since my idea of history came from an ancient teacher in my home country,I had never heard of that name before. As I searched the name of this fellow,it became evident that there were two people bearing the same name who looked completely different! One invented hundreds of uses for peanuts, while the other led some sort of army across America.I stared at the screen, wondering which one my teacher meant.I called my grandfather for a golden piece of advice:flip (掷) a coin.Heads—the commander, and tails—the peanut guy.Ah! Tails,my report would be about the great man who invented peanut butter,George Washington Carver.Weeks later, standing before this unfriendly mass,I was totally lost.Oh well,I lowered the paper and sat down at my desk, burning to find out what I had done wrong. As a classmate began his report,it all became clear,“My report is on George Washington, the man who started the American Revolution.”The whole world became q uiet! How could I know that she meant that George Washington?Obviously,my grade was awful.Heartbroken but fearless,I decided to turn this around.I talked to Miss Lancelot, but she insisted: No re-dos; no new grade.I felt that the punishment was not justified, and I believed I deserved a second chance.Consequently,I threw myself heartily into my work for the rest of the school year.Ten months later, that chance unfolded as I found myself sitting in the headmaster’s office with my grandfather, now having an entirely different conversation.I smiled and flashed back to the embarrassing moment at the beginning of the year as the headmaster informed me of my option to skip the sixth grade.Justice is sweet!1.What did the author’s classmates think about his report?()A.Controversial.B.Ridiculous.C.Boring.D.Puzzling. 2.Why was the author confused about the task?()A.He was unfamiliar with American history.B.He followed the advice and flipped a coin.C.He forgot his teacher’s instruction.D.He was new at the school.3.The underlined word “burning” in Para.3 probably means .A.annoyedB.ashamedC.readyD.eager4.In the end,the author turned things around .A.by redoing his taskB.through his own effortsC.with the help of his grandfatherD.under the guidance of his headmaster语篇解读:本文为记叙文,题材为人物故事类。

1.总分关系[考题回放](2014·全国卷Ⅱ)From my experience, there are three main reasons why people don't cook more often: ability, money, and time. 16 Money is a topic I'll save for another day.So today I want to give you some wisdom about how to make the most of the time you spend in the kitchen. Here are three tips for great cooking on a tight schedule:B.Ability is easily improved.[思路分析]空格前面提到了三个原因:ability, money, time。

2.解释关系[考题回放](2016·四川高考)One important biological factor that helps women live longer is the difference in hormones between men and women. 37 Between the ages of about 12 and 50,women produce hormones that are involved in fertility(生育能力).These hormones also have a positive effect on the heart and the blood flow.In fact, women are less likely to have high blood pressure or to die from heart attacks.G.Hormones are chemicals which are produced by the body to control various body functions.[思路分析]空格前首次提到了荷尔蒙,空格后介绍的是荷尔蒙的功能,由此可推测该空应该是对hormones进行解释。

This is the house which we bought last month.(2)

The house, which we bought last month, is very nice.

阅读理解A2023ꞏ新课标Ⅱ卷说明文290词★★★★☆Reading Art: Art for Book Lo v ers is a celebration of an everyday object—the book, represented here in almost three hundred artworks from museums around the world. The image of the reader appears throughout history, in art made long before books as we now know them came into being. In artists' representations of books and reading, we see moments of shared humanity that go beyond culture and time.In this “book of books,”artworks are selected and arranged in a way that emphasizes these connections between different eras and cultures. We see scenes of children learning to read at home or at school, with the book as a focus for relations between the generations. Adults are portrayed (描绘) alone in many settings and poses—absorbed in a volume, deep in thought or lost in a moment of leisure. These scenes may have been painted hundreds of years ago, but they record moments we can all relate__to.Books themselves may be used symbolically in paintings to demonstrate the intellect (才智), wealth or faith of the subject. Before the wide use of the printing press, books were treasured objects and could be works of art in their own right. More recently, as books have become inexpensive or even throwaway, artists have used them as the raw material for artworks—transforming covers, pages or even complete volumes into paintings and sculptures.Continued developments in communication technologies were once believed to make the printed page outdated. From a 21st-century point of view, the printed book is certainly ancient, but it remains as interactive as any battery-powered e-reader. To serve its function, a book must be activated by a user: the cover opened, the pages parted, the contents reviewed, perhaps notes written down or words underlined. And in contrast to our increasingly networked lives where the information we consume is monitored and tracked, a printed book still offers the chance of a wholly private, “off-line” activity.1.Where is the text most probably taken from?A.An introduction to a book.B.An essay on the art of writing.C.A guidebook to a museum.D.A review of modern paintings.2.What are the selected artworks about?A.Wealth and intellect.B.Home and school.C.Books and reading.D.Work and leisure.3.What do the underlined words “relate to” in Paragraph 2 mean?A.Understand. B.Paint.C.Seize. D.Transform.4.What does the author want to say by mentioning the e-reader?A.The printed book is not totally out of date.B.Technology has changed the way we read.C.Our lives in the 21st century are networked.D.People now rarely have the patience to read.B2024ꞏ济南模拟说明文264词★★★☆☆There is nothing quite like enjoying the sights, sounds and culture of a city while tasting a cup of coffee outdoors. But it is not that enjoyable when heat waves sweep the city. An outdoor cooling system produced by Green Kinonko , an Israeli (以色列的) company , began to be tested in Tel Aviv. The sweltering city is a perfect place to try the new technology. With global warming heating up the temperature, it will soon be too hot to sit outside in cafes. While outdoor cooling systems have existed for a while, most of them use some sort of water or a misting system to cool the air around them, consuming too much water and power. After two years of development, the perfect solution to the problem was found. “We have invented a new generation of air conditioners,” Green Kinonko's CEO Leizer said.As Leizer introduced, the energy is from the pressure created between liquid nitrogen (氮) and gas nitrogen. When liquid nitrogen at -196 ℃turns into gas, it produces a very strong pressure and the pressure is used to run a mechanical engine. It is the mechanical engine that slowly releases freezing nitrogen gas to cool down the air around it.The technology is unique and amazing. Beyond the coolness of the concept,it also has other advantages. The work unit doesn't need to be power-driven, and doesn't blow out harmful warm air as it works. As for the potential price, it will probably be no more expensive than any other air conditioner. In addition, the liquid nitrogen container will need to be replaced every seven to ten days, depending on usage. This makes it an affordable option for all sorts of businesses. The cooling system is expected to be on the market in 2024.5.What does the underlined word “sweltering” in Paragraph 1 mean?A.Warm. B.Dry.C.Hot. D.Freezing.6.What problem does the existing outdoor cooling systems have?A.They are wasteful.B.They overheat easily.C.They often break down.D.They are slow to cool the air.7.What does Paragraph 3 mainly explain?A.What powers the engine.B.What turns liquid into gas.C.How the pressure is formed.D.How the new system works.8.What is the purpose of this text?A.To promote a company.B.To settle an energy crisis.C.To introduce a technology.D.To market a misting system.Ⅱ.
