MODULE 12 Summer in LA

Part 1: Teaching design

第一部分教学设计

Unit 1 Your host family is meeting you at the airport.

■Warm up by talking about the picture.

Hello, class. Would you go to study abroad after you graduate from this school? I think some of you will be studying abroad. But first let’s go to page 96 to look at the picture. What do you see in the picture? Could you talk about what you see and what they do in the picture? You may make use of the example sentences below.

■Listen and read.

On page 96 is a conversation among Lingling, Daming, Tony, Head Teacher and Becky Wang. What are they talking about?

Before we listen to it, let’s go on to read it first. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions. (阅读过程中,断开/意群,观察谓语构成,圈出连词,摘录短语搭配。)

■Study agreement of subject and predicate.

Singular subjects need singular verbs. Plural subjects need plural verbs.

These are the basic rules for the agreement of subject and predicate.

Now go over the conversation to find some sentences to support these rules.

■Turn the conversation into a text.

We are now going over the conversation again to turn it into a text.

■Close down by asking and answering questions about goals.

1.What is your biggest goal in life?

2.How do you plan to achieve that goal?

3.What are your “short term” goals?

4.What are your “long term” goals?

5.Should parents help their children set goals?

6.What are your educational goals?

7.What are your financial goals?

8.Is having a goal in life effective in becoming successful?

9.Do you have any goals that you feel are unrealistic?

10.How do people's goals change from country to country?

Unit 2 I would go around the world.

■Warm up by getting to know about Los Angeles.

We are going to learn English in Los Angeles today. But how much do you know about her?

Los Angeles (also called L.A.) is a city in southern California, in the United States of America. It has 3,847,400 people living in the city, and over 18 million people in the L.A. region. The city has an area of 1200 square kilometres. L.A. has the second largest population of any city in the USA. It is the largest city in California.

■Read the passage.

On page 98 is an article about learning English in Los Angeles. Now start reading it. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions. (阅读过程中,断开/意群,观察谓语构成,圈出连词,摘录短语搭配。)
