My main priorities are English, Media and Sociology as I feel they will aid me most in my ambition, although I still find Psychology a fascinating subject. 英国人给世界的印象似乎总是温文尔雅、彬彬有礼的绅士形象，然而在和英国人加深接触后，你会发现他们其实是一个充满矛盾的人群。
例如：英国人以保守著称于世，但英国未成年少女怀孕率竟然是世界最高的；英国人白天沉默内敛，可每当入夜，各地的英式酒吧间间爆满，充斥着欢声笑语……不和英国人交往一段时间，是很难发现他们掩藏在绅士外表下的真正性格特点的。
另一方面，”英国人的民族性格”这一提法，本身也有以偏概全的问题。
众所周知，英国并不是一个单一民族国家。
英格兰人、苏格兰人、威尔士人和北爱尔兰人各有自己的传统和民族文化认同。
从这个层面上讲，似乎根本就不存在同一的”英国性格”；或者说，所谓的”英国性格”，其实主要指的就是”英格兰性格”。
不过，在整个英国范围内，不同民族的人群也表现出相当多的相似性，因此笔者采取简单化的做法，以英格兰的情况为主，结合苏格兰和威尔士，将英国人的性格总结为五点。

但是，绝不能因此就认为英国人不友善。
一方面，英国人注重隐私和个人空间。

英国人从不去打探别人的私事，不侵犯其他人的空间，不将自己的观念和价值强加在别人身上。
整个英国社会的构成基础，就是对个人的体谅和尊重。
英国人并不随

英国人的友善还表现在他们热衷慈善事业的爱心上。
英国各地大大小小的慈善商店通过售卖捐赠物品来为各种慈善工作筹款。
每间商店都会源源不断受到各种物品。
仅以牛津英国救济委员会（oxfam）为例，这一英国最大的慈善机构20XX年总共从金钱和实物捐赠中获得2200万英镑善款，并有23760名志愿者无私奉献时间，参与工作。
对于中国留学生来说，初到英国时因为对环境不熟悉、语言表达不自如，很难和英国人交上朋友。
实际上，英国人对中国人普遍怀有善意，但觉得东方人很神秘、不愿和西方人交往。
因此，中国留学生首先要打破自身顾虑，主动大胆地去赢得英国人的友好，消除双方的隔阂。

更可贵的是，无论队列多么长，时间多么久，所有人仍然安安静静，毫无怨言，这在中国是不可想象的。
在英国，人们自我解嘲地打趣说，只要在街上看到两个人一前一后站在一起，就肯定有人会跟着排上去。
在英国，路上行人互相让路司空见惯，”Thankyou”和”Sorry”更是挂在嘴边的用语；一旦有身体或行李的接触，被撞的人往往还抢在对方之前道歉；进出建筑时，走在前面的人永远会扶住门，等待后面的人经过；有交通灯的路口，无论有没有车，人们都等绿灯才过马路；在没有交通灯的路口，永远是小车司机微笑着挥手让行人先过；上公共汽车时，在门口买完票后，你尽可以向司机问路，时间再长，全车人也会静静地等待；再拥挤的汽车、商店，也听不到嘈杂，每个人都压低声音和别人说话……这样的社会，你也许可以说它沉闷，说它效率低下，然而生活在这样的社会中，人的尊严和生活水准会得到最大的体现。
英国还是个讲求诚信的社会。
人与人之间极少有坑蒙拐骗的事。
商店售出的商品，只要顾客不喜欢，随时可以不问任何理由地退回。
一些家庭经营的有两层楼的书店或杂货店，往往只有一个人在店堂里，而地下一层没有任何看护措施，就算是顾客拿些东西，店主也根本不会知道。
英国的火车车厢两头和双层巴士的门口都设有摆放大件行李的。
